    Bass Station II overview: bit.ly/BS-II
    Bass Station II is an analogue mono-synth based on the classic original Bass Station but re-worked for the 21st century. It has two filters, two oscillators plus a third sub-oscillator, patch save and a fully analogue effects section. Add a step sequencer, arpeggiator, full sized keys and a powerful modulation section and you have the makings of a synth that is built for bass, but capable of so much more.
    Bass Station II key features:
    • Analogue synth: brand new version of the classic Bass Station
    • Two distinct analogue filters
    • Load and save patches
    • Pattern-based Step Sequencer and Arpeggiator
    • Dedicated Tweakable Controls
    • Two Oscillators plus an additional Sub Oscillator
    • Analogue effects section
    • Flexible modulation featuring 2 Envelopes and 2 LFOs
    • MIDI I/O and USB connectivity
    • Players 'synth-action' keyboard with aftertouch
    Sound system from flipside-sounds...

    Funny, there's a shitload of videos out there of people just twiddling knobs on equipment or pressing pads on a bloody MPC, where most comments are along the lines of "awesome mate" "dude fuckin a" "you rock dude" and all that shite, and then this guy actually plays a couple of instruments and people like to rain down a load of abuse on him. People eh.

      Bushcraft Beats So if anyone making a product presentation doesn't meet your exact personal taste in music, to you that's a reason to hate on the instrument and make fun of the person demoing it? You know, I'm not a huge fan of house music. If I were as narrow minded as you I couldn't have any synths at all (except for this one maybe) and would probably spend the rest of my life writing hate comments. To me this was one of the very few demos that actually make sense, too bad so many "critics" and "synth experts" just don't seem to get it. Has anyone ever wondered if this guy maybe had to follow certain instructions to keep the sound simple intentionally to give us a good impression of the raw oscillator sound and character of the filter? The performance requires precise timing on synth and guitar, nice arranging and mixing skills and has a great dynamic build up to it and the arpeggio ROCKS !!! Just what exactly is your problem, dude?

  • @69drummerdude
    @69drummerdude 10 років тому +74

    Why all the hate? He's just here to show the possibilties of the Bass Station. So there's the bass sounds in the beginning with the filter knob, running the guitar through the machine in the middle and the aftertouch in the last bit. Packed in a sort of advert type film on music that will appeal to a lot of people. It's not meant to be his greatest artistic performance. The guy works at Novation (and Ableton?) is featured in a lot of instruction videos. Lighten up!

    • @ilsaalsi857
      @ilsaalsi857 9 років тому +4

      but the bs2 can do so much more! he used only half the knobs and kept fucking with the cutoff and making generic bass sounds with no character. if his goal was to show the possibilities of the bass station he failed in my opinion. also, he's playing like some malfunctioning robot.

    • @69drummerdude
      @69drummerdude 9 років тому +1

      Eamon Campbell-June Haha! Well, I will accept your comment because you clearly love the bs2 and feel it has been wronged. But even you are a bit mean at the end. Maybe he IS a robot, how would you feel then?

    I don't see why people are ragging on this video so much. It's properly recorded and rehearsed, and does a nice job of showing-off the Bass Station. It's not the synthesizer to end all synthesizers; it's only two octaves, and relatively standard in its features.
    If you like it, buy it. Novation has always generally produced decent gear at affordable prices.

      Whenever someone online hates on a synth (or in this case a performance) I imagine it's because A.) They sit in front of their computer and make computer music and could never do this and B.) because they think their microkorg and pirated software sounds waaaaaaay better. In other words the people that suck at music production are the first to criticize. They suck at understanding subjectivity. They suck at online interactions. I have a BS2 and it's a good synth. Most synth heads that have played one agree. It's the youtube kids that haven't and what a surprise! They're the first to say "it suckz".

    • @guifingers7470
      @guifingers7470 8 років тому +2

      People hate on it because it has been edited heavily and the song is actually not live but coming completely out of a DAW. It suggests you can do all that stuff in a live situation. In reality this video is a collage of separate performances edited in post to make it look like its waaaay more cool than it can be in a real live situation. It shows what you can do in a studio but not live. So i guess this ticks people off.
      The synth is great anyway. :)

    • @AlbertSirup
      @AlbertSirup 8 років тому

      Wll i mean technically you could do this live it's just annoying, would take a lot of (unnecessary) practice and a fairly expensive set-up. As far as i can tell this is just a fancy way to show people some of the sounds of the Bass Station as well as the feature to use the filter section on another instrument. They are not hiding the laptop and launchpad but i think the bass station sounds themselves are "untight" enough to actually have been played live... albeit you can never tell if it's played right there on the spot. Probably it is a mixture of live performances stitched together and a fair amount of pre- and post-production.

    True. It's all going from the guitar into the Scarlett 2i4 which is treated via Live with some guitar processing plugins, then into the second BSII with a ext input mixed with synth. The beats are one continuous scene in Live triggered by the Launchpad. I create the first patch from an Init. empty patch, displaying a fair amount of the synth's parameters, then show off some of the filters / presets. I played it to camera a few times to get it right and we all went home. Love the BSII it's deep.

    I could programme better with an egg box and some and a tub of butter.

      Soulonaut You know it's one thing to say you don't like something and another to become disrespectful and arrogant towards things you don't like. You should at least try to point out exactly what you don't like about this demo. Simply claiming you could have done better seems rather pretentious to me and I doubt it. There are basic rules of respect, too bad you don't seem to follow them. I can tell you exactly what I like about this, would you mind saying what you hate so much about it?

    There's a few comments about how a monosynth can't handle chords here. Well, if the Novation has an input so that you can filter external sounds, then whatever goes in that input will be available to the Novation's filter and be outputed with the synth effect added. It just treats the audio inputted as a waveshape, one note, chord, entire orchestra - it doesn't know the difference.

    You'd think the company making these synths would find a famous producer who's using it and get him to do a product demo, this demo was awful and it sounded terrible. Why no effects or anything, just sounded really weak. Sorry for the negative comments and I'm sure you spent a while putting this video together however if everybody here is giving bad feedback hopefully you'll take it on board for the future. Afterall you want to be making videos that will make people buy your product. I used to make music and I remember a novation bass station was something that everybody wanted.

    Hi Novation,
    I have my BS2 set up in Live 9 and I would like to make a whole track using BS2 patches only.
    So far every time I create an arp and then make a new track for a bassline the arp patch changes to the bassline too.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Do I need to render the arp to audio first and treat the tracks separately or is there a way of getting the patches sent on separate channels so that I can jam and make real time changes as the track progresses like you would with VST's?
    Thanks

    Wow, in awe of the number of armchair musicians negatively commenting here, who've probably never released anything worthwhile in their life. If you're not one of them, my apologies. But I don't see any memorable names like Geddy Lee (now there's a man who can play bass and synths) commenting here. Maybe because that kind of empty bile is beneath them? Seriously, if you can't say anything positive and constructive, move on and do something positive with your life.

    Yu can make very wild rockin bass/guitar sound leads with this thing, it is a very versatile machine. here's a pretty solid Bass sound I got from the Bass station II it can get a bit wild. Check it out. It can get you some amazing sounds. It's very worth the purchase for those that like to sound design, for sure.

    There are 2 things that make me wonder if this was all recorded live (besides the drums) ...
    Chords @1:36 are not played but are still coming out from the bass station.
    The guitar chord keeps hanging @1:30 even if he let off the guitar

    • @EstebanAcosta801
      @EstebanAcosta801 9 років тому

      He probably triggered it on the Launchpad with his left hand around 1:35, so it will play on the next bar.
      And the guitar is tuned to Drop D, so the first few strings played open will sustain a D power chord.

    • @12copablo
      @12copablo 9 років тому

      ***** Hello Esteban! He cannot trigger clips from the launchpad as all 6 clips are already playing all along the song (see @0:46 and at the end @2:12). As for the guitar, have you ever seen such a perfect fade with an open power chord? But maybe you are right for the guitar chord... I found another one. Look at the patch numbers between 1:54 and 1:59. At 1:55 he changes to patch 73 but at 1:58 you can see that the patch in the keyboard is 71. This video is clearly an edition between different takes. As for the audio, I also think that this is not a truly live performance of the synths and the guitar.

    Novation, trying to copy Arturia's "live" dual-synth + guitar product demo. And doing hilariously worse. Pretentious, cheesy, less fun, less demonstrative of any sonic range.
    And it's not hard to believe that Arturia's demo could have been done entirely live on two minibrutes, a guitar, and a looping pedal, even though it wasn't.

    Should've ditched the cheesy guitar-bit - you're trying to sell a synth...
