Silence is the highest teaching. Nothing is there to say about the "I am". You just can't describe awareness with words - it's infinite yet has no space, it lacks nothing yet lacks all objective qualities, it's eternal yet has no time. Words can only arrive at paradoxes in these matters. Just be silent, just be, and in that light all questions dissolve - peace/happiness remains. 🙏

Rupert's approach to the enlightenment question is at a level removed from what the questioner is inquiring about. It may be well and good to say we are all enlightened because we are all conscious but that isn't what the questioner is interested in. His question is really asking, what about ignorance, what about fear, what about the separate self? To see oneself as an individual and separate is ignorance, to see the unity of all being is enlightenment. To live in fear of death is ignorance, to see life and death as phases of being is enlightenment. Simply being conscious does not remove ignorance, fear, or the sense of being a separate self. Yes, we all have being but if that being is subject to the above, then enlightenment, the overcoming of ignorance, fear and the separate self will remain as a goal for the individual and not something one is gifted with simply by being born.

Enlightenment - Experiencing deeply and profoundly Oneness/Unity/Perfect Love -the essence of God - in every moment. Permanent freedom from the experience of fear, negativity, suffering, separation, an inner sense of lack. Experiencing one's true nature all the time.

This is very bizarre that Rupert has switched to the “nothing to do, you are already enlightened” camp. Awakening (aka enlightenment) is a real phenomenon. The opposite of it is an almost continuous mechanism of the mind which creates a suffering character. Let's say your name is Tom, the unawakened state is where thought is almost continuously shouting the following set of connected ideas : I am Tom and there is something wrong (something wrong with the past, something here and now, or something in the future). Tom then suffers. This mechanism can collapse through continuous inquiry (in the right way). Once gone, thought still functions but there is no longer the compulsive creation of the “I am Tom - something is wrong” dream. What is left is continuous peace, happiness and functional intelligence. Just intellectually understanding that Tom is not real or going through the exercise the questioner was taken through isn’t gonna do anything for anyone - other than being entertained and maybe feeling good for 2 minutes. I will bet a $ million that the questioner, after leaving the meeting, went back to being his normal, suffering self. That is, even if he had dropped Tom for a few seconds during Rupert’s questioning (even this is not likely, most likely Tom just temporarily accepted Rupert’s feel good ideas and words) he picked up Tom again 30 seconds later when Rupert moved onto the next person and the questioner started day dreaming about his past present and future problems. Stable awakening, which is the only worthwhile goal in all of this, is the continuous absence of “I am Tom - there is something wrong”. Even if it does arise it is very quickly seen to be false, nothing more than a day dream. Awakening IS possible. It IS different than the normal human state. And no, not everyone sitting in that room is awake. If that were the case, they would have zero reason to be at the meeting. They would be somewhere else living life joyously. Anthony if you read this, please contact me. I think I can be of some help. I have been exactly where you are. A quick note: it is true that Tom cannot wake up. It is awareness that wakes up OUT OF Tom. But it is not correct to say that awareness is already awakened out of characters (Tom, Jim, Sally, whatever your name is) in all humans everywhere. It is also not true to say that nothing can be done to awaken. It requires a continuous inquiry which must be done during daily living. No amount of philosophizing about it, attending satsangs, asking questions (unless they are specifically about how to inquire properly and continuously) is going to get you there. It just doesn't work that way. Principle number one in all of this, which has been talked about for thousands of years, is that you CANNOT *think* your way to awakening, you cannot "figure it out'. In fact, incessant thinking is the barrier.

Enlightenment can come in various ways - it can come as a mind-blowing experience which immediately transforms our perception of the SOURCE of BEING and our previous intellectual understanding of the world. Or - through persistent study of the Christ Letters, A Course In Miracles and A Course Of Love, little moments of extraordinary insight, little times of illumining shafts of LIGHT will enter our mind which will shift the focus of our inner sight - or clear the lens through which we see the world and judge the validity of all its opinions and beliefs.
But True Enlightenment is the inflow of Universal Consciousness (God) into our human consciousness which we will never lose and which permanently transforms our attitudes to the Creator and life generally.
Gradually, we shed the illusions which previously blinded us and we find ourselves gaining mastery of our mind and actions, leading to wholeness in every aspect of our individual being.
Walking the CHRIST WAY - as set out in the Christ Letters, A Course In Miracles and A Course Of Love - is a lifetime work leading directly to freedom from anxiety and want.
As we read, we will find in them the Presence of Jesus and the Love of Jesus.

My question is that I am very aware that it’s awareness in which experience rises it’s the awareness that makes me realize who I am it’s the awareness that makes experience suffering so what causes us to be blissful being aware? What makes us separate from every experience we have it seems to only become stronger - When I am more aware I feel the suffering of my old parents more intensely than not, I feel every nuance of my heart beat more… at what point of being aware can I keep myself separated from experience - isn’t that enlightenment? And Rupert did not overnight get enlightened to this it took him years of Sadhana and study and practice to get enlightened? If that foundation was not there could he be where he is now and would the direct path have made sense to him? Humbly asking the questions for my progress

You are awareness itself! Realizing. " who you are " is a thought in your mind of a separate self with a story and personality with all the suffering attached to this. Awareness can not suffer or have a story etc. It is the ever present never changing observer. The bliss comes in the realization that you are and have always been awareness. It has always been this way. It got lost in the story of your separate self identity.

I think the enlightenment or realization that seekers are wanting would be the second stage of realization in his video 'Are there stages of Enlightenment' from few years back, unless he no longer thinks it is valid or applicable or realistic now. This would be the realization that awareness is not bound by limits of the body and time, hence we do not die when the body dies, etc... I am curious why Rupert left this part out in his reply.

This young guy already knows conceptually the steps towards awakening elaborated by Rupert. This radical answer from Rupert is just the natural evolution of its teaching. Now there is almost no concession made to the separate inside self. Some people, like I think it's the case for this young guy, are in desperate needs of listening to a radical answer such like this one gave by Rupert. Don't forget that Rupert answer IN THE MOMENT. So he feels where the questioner is and always personalize its answer. So I think it's very good that Rupert doesn't mechanically answer this question. I notice that Rupert is way more radical than before. That's a good thing for its old followerss that his teaching has evolved, otherwise we run the risk of getting identified with its very enticing, parsimonious and elegant model of reality (Consciousness-only model), which in almost all cases, if understand conceptually and tested out in our life, puts an effortless, natural end to the disruptive thinking mind in behalf of a separate self.

The infinite consciousness. Let's name as the only MIND.
This MIND is both present, knows it's present, and aware.
The MIND's activity localizes itself to spawn the separate self.
much like how you in your dream state, you create a world, and all it's characters... also you yourself are present in your dream as an individual... losing your true self.
and in this dream, you are a separate individual... although the whole creation is from your mind.
Similarly, the thought of you as a separate individual is MIND losing itself as a separate entity in the entire creation of it's own world.
Enlightenment is knowing this truth and decondition the mind of it's assumed perception.
or in other terms overcoming "Maya", the illusory self.
When the MIND withdraws from all it's local self, only awareness remains without any condition, that is Samadhi.
    That's my understanding. 🙏

All you have to do is just sit there and be. That is what Ramana did from 16 years old. Ramana came to know of himself as being the Atman and stopped identifying with his body. He came to that awareness in one afternoon while contemplating death. That's all anyone needs to do. Just realize that you are the soul and stop identifying with physical form and just sit there and be. The reason people aren't enlightened is because they don't want to do what it takes to be enlightened. Ramana realized the truth and then just sat. Buddha found enlightenment and just sat. Give up every attachment realizing your true nature, realizing the Self. Then just sit as Ramana and Buddha did and it is guaranteed you will realize the nature of your existence. Each one of us is a particle of the infinite God/Spirit and God is fully and wholly present within each particle. The whole of existence and creation is within us because everything is within God and God is within each and every piece. The Absolute is found within the relative. The infinite is found within the finite. Everything exists within infinite light and we are that light.

I get Spira's argument and logic here and maybe it is actually the better one than the instant surprise recognition that occurs without any seeking, out of the blue. That seems different and is what the seekers are looking for, but not realising they already are it. Maybe it's the nature of the realisation, a strong one vs. a weak one. In other words, Spira may not be triggered easily by what is happening around him but those in the class/seekers may be. So the old habits, egoic habits, etc. arise and Being is forgotten.

Once back into my body, I understood that everything is energy and that sparkle of Light was my pure Essence, namely just a fragment of the Universal Consciousness. There is only One Source and we and everything else are just a mere expression of it. It is an energetic vibrational world where by just being we get everything we have always wanted from our heart. Doing is an expression of the human ego which has a tendency to control everything because we are afraid to let go. The entire concept of civilization, education and history is a product of our imagination as space and time do not exist. But worry not as even the individual self is an illusion: it's just Source playing hide and seek with itself however, the creation of dualism was necessary to play this game called life. I havent perceived non-seperation before. But when I do self enquiry I find myself resting in what feels like a complete openess, there is an underlying peace and joy that doesn't run out. So from what I understand, this is my true nature and all that is to be done is just to rest in it more and more until it becomes my predominant state. Infact it already feels much more sober and natural to how I was living before. Like I said I haven't had a shift in perception yet, but why does that matter if I am already feeling peace and joy resting in "I am". Don't get me wrong though, intense emotions do come up and the I do emotion work where I allow the emotion/sensations.

The person (the character) can tell himself “I am I am” over and over without getting anywhere. Rupert’s instruction to just leave it at that or just be and forget about enlightenment is very misleading. You are very right in that the whole point of this is to SEE that the person is not real. Actually see it and know it. Not just believe it theoretically. Simultaneous to seeing that the person is not real is the seeing that the circumstances are not real.

Its not something i witnessed in the present moment like a natural high or something. For some reason, conciousness filters a lot of informations in our current society.
Anyway, nothing to chase, we are complete and already the version we want to be. i let go and life will take care. There maybe 7 (or 8) levels of consciousness.
    1. Dreamless sleep.
    2. Dreaming sleep.
    3. The waking state which has a train of thought.
    4. The meditative state being a state of restful alertness and without a train of thought.
    5. Bliss consciousness is a state of thought in which the ego is lost during meditation and a state of joy prevails after.
    6. Nirvana (Pass)
    7. God consciousness is a sense of infinite expansion or boundlessness. It can be triggered by the "night terrors" of childhood during meditation.
    8. Death consciousness. This is speculative as no one returns to tell the tale, but is probably stirred and reborn since nothing is ever destroyed.
"Enlightenment" may be one or all of these states, all of them or none of them and they may be in the wrong order.
    I favour the seventh.

If people leveled up spiritually then they would be capable of the 3 achievements. Most people in the world have one or two achievements but no one has reached one of them which is leveling up the soul. God exist, the universe exists, the deities in each mythology exist, time exists at the same time doesn't, there's a pattern with the dimensions, there was once two gods, the story of creation in every in place all happened at the same time, ect. The souls journey when learning is a pattern of construction, deconstruction, and reconstruction of anything and everything. Everything is connected in some way, shape, or form.
