When you go back and think of the many witch hunts that happened over the centuries, it makes sense that there are wizards who would despise them/reject them and even go to the extreme of wanting a pure blood supremacy. When you look at the matter through that lense, it has a different perspective.

@@theNicholas1117 I don't think they mean it as having purenloods on charge and ruling with an iron fist. I think it was meant to be: wizards only, keep muggles out. Which in many cases would also keep muggleborns out. It was similar to how the MACUSA used to run the American wizard community.

I disagree completely. The steps from hatred to supremacy, especially at the societal level aren’t that many. And the magical society is divided. And pure-blood supremacy, at that level, I would argue, would be the strongest in periods where the society is divided.
I mean wouldn’t it be obvious why ideals like that develop when they see other witches and wizards turn on their own kind. “Fraternising” with the enemy who hunted and killed them? And not only are they siding with the muggles, but in so doing they’re putting all the other magicals at risk too, exposing the magical community. Moreover it’s not just a point of view of “they don’t accept/hate the muggle-borns” either because they do have magical blood but they don’t conform to the society that’s welcoming them. The society that ultimately wouldn’t kill them for what they are (ideally). Like let’s use African-American people as an example. They have black heritage in their blood but that doesn’t mean they inherently get to speak in name of African people who actually live in Africa. Born and raised, who live their life, and enjoy and suffer the perks and downsides of that life, the country, and culture. And yet here they are, muggle borns coming to teach purebloods how to live their life. Causing the magical society to change “in their favour”, to make them feel comfortable, accepted, included. Many values and traditions get slandered and defined dark just because of outsiders who don’t understand how their world really work. Or at least that’s how magical families like the Malfoy could see it across the years.
Magical society is really traditional and slow, (not to add prejudicial against other magical beings too) I would see it as a normal evolution when it suddenly starts changing, that they are repulsed, sceptical and hateful.
They don’t interact at all with muggles so everything that comes from them is foreign and alien like. And let’s not forget that this is like practically spitting at their own past “oh you’ve hunted and killed my own people for centuries in the past, and despite you not really having done anything to repair that and make you trustworthy, I’m not just gonna trust you anyway and accept you but I’m even gonna make you comfortable and change my home to adapt it to you too”.
How could you trust anything but pure blood supremacy then?
So I’m just saying that at least for me it makes sense. Dislike evolves into hatred and hatred evolves into supremacy.
And it would make for a great nuanced story exploring how these themes would be addressed in a modern magical political atmosphere.

Pureblood witches and wizards hate muggles because they are more powerful they should be leading the world but they have been forced into hiding. When you look at what a slytherin traits we are clever, resourceful, ambitious, and determined. It doesn't make sense to us to be under the heel of a weaker species because of the so called morals of others.
The whole system goes against who we are, it doesn't make sense for witches and wizards to hide their power, it doesn't make sense to enchant our homes and practice magic in the dark. It doesn't make sense that children become obscurials because they have to suppress their abilities. Witches and Wizards have a gift and too many wizards are happy to hide in the shadows.
      I wouldn't like muggles either.

Tbf, during the beginning of the series especially, and in Magical Beasts, people in the Wizarding world were extremely cautious about showing off.
We are shown the aftermath. Not what lead up to it as a result.
1000 years is a long time. I'm sure it's gotten better. If we take a look at our own human history, we have our ups and our downs. Realistically, it wouldn't be shocking or surprising if the ups and downs occurred for the muggles and non muggles.

One thing I kinda believe is that Lucius Malfoy really was Imperiused into taking the Dark Mark. I can't really see him consenting to becoming anyone's underling. A silent ally who provided funds and resources to the movement while keeping his own hands clean, but not a servant.
And of course, once the Dark Mark was on his arm, Voldemort had direct control over Malfoy, so the Imperius Curse was redundant for most purposes. Thus Lucius Malfoy didn't lie about being Imperiused; he just obfuscated about the extent of his volitional collusion. And paid some hefty bribes as well.

    • @AlleluiaElizabeth
      @AlleluiaElizabeth 2 роки тому

Dark Mark doesn't mind control people, though. If it did, Karkaroff wouldn't have been able to think of fleeing. And Snape couldn't have betrayed Voldemort when he killed the Potters.

    • @nerdetcurieuse
      @nerdetcurieuse 2 роки тому

The Mark did not mind control people, but it did allow Voldemort to locate them and kill them if he d wanted. Pretty much like the most powerful psychopath keeping you under a tracker. There was no way they could have escaped the dark lord chasing them down.
So you d think twice before betraying the man in a position like that.
Also: why would Voldemort even need the imperius curse? He was a master manipulator AND could literally read minds. You would THINK about betraying him, and he would know exactly where you were at.
Aka: Snape might have been a jerk, but it took guts (and strengh) to do what he did. Didn t it?

I think it is also as well that pure blood wizards see mundane born witches and wizards as a threat.
They fear that traditions would be lost with mundane BØRNS coming in.
One of the best examples I can think of is Hermione.
She genuinely meant well, but the way she handled the house elves is a really good example.
House elves, love to work and serve people, and she viewed it as slavery, simply because they weren’t paid.
Instead of actually speaking to the elves and finding out their side, and finding out what day wanted, she just took matters into her own hands and started knitting items for the elves, thus tricking them into freeing themselves When they may not want to be freed, or it could be detrimental to the health of the elves to be freed because they feed off the magic from the people and place that they serve.
The elves refused to clean the parts of Hogwarts where Hermione left the clothes for them, and instead of consulting the elves again about what day wanted, she just doubled down her efforts.
Hermione is probably not the first, nor will be the last to do this, and so what if mundane, born witches and wizards have actually offended, pure blood wizards time and again through their ignorance, even if they have good intentions,
Also traditional holidays such as samhain, and you’ll where replaced with a more Western eyes version of Christmas and Halloween which we see at Hogwarts every year.
Also, another reason is mundane. People still continue to miss treat magical‘s.
A group of mundane boys attacked Albus Dumbledore‘s sister to the point where she forced herself to stop practising magic, and Harry was constantly miss treated by his relatives because he was magical and they weren’t, and it is well known that Petunia hated magic, because she was jealous of Lily, and that jealousy turned into hatred and bitterness, so, even in an enlightened period of history, magical‘s are still miss treated by mundane’s, so it is no wonder that magical’s continue to miss trust, Mondays and have disdain for them I’m not saying it is right, but I understand why it happens.
Also, sorry about the mistakes I’m using dictation and it doesn’t always pick up what I want to say

Only difference is they have magic so if they are going to be hunted down they can take thousands with them.
I think Pureblood ideology is tottaly fine, it ensures that magical blood will be carried on. it dosent mean you need to hate others who act differently, but you can have you close circle who have same values as you. So you can find mates for your childrens and ensure your family line endures thousands of years. Thouse who are willing to mix they blood too much will risk that magical ability will be quenced in family line. I offere, That Hermione ancestors were magical, but for generations they skiped magical ability and in Hermione it surfaced again.

Don't remember where I heard it but I believe the Malfoy's made their fortune by trading with muggles. Didn't really address this source of their fortune in this video. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on this. Perhaps they were (from their point) of scamming the muggles. Trying to think of ways where they maintain their hatred of pure bloods, and yet make their money from the muggles.

There has been something that I always took issue with that maybe you could answer for us. In book 7, voldemort went to the previous address of grigorovich and found a new family living there, it heavily implied that he killed them and did so essentially in the same way he killed Harry's parents. So my question is, why didn't the same ancient power of "love" cause his curse to again rebound and strip him from his body?

The logic is sound, and I'd even say that from that stance, the belief would be at least somewhat justified.
Hatred is never something that just appears out of thin air. It's either a response to a past wrong committed by the now hated party, real or percieved, or evolved from fear of a threat the hated party represents, real or percieved, or both. You don't hate those you see als lesser. You may tell yourself that to feel better. But in reality, you hate those you think wronged you, those you think will wrong you, and those who you think wronged you and will do so again. Those you think of as weaker are those you bully if you're an asshole, or pity, or protect if you're a perticularely nice person, but you don't hate them.
There are a lot of hints that the wizarding world, the creation of Hogwarts, the Statute of Secrecy, and many more things in the wizarding world, are the way they are due to the witch hunts. But that doesn't align with actual history very well. For starters, the first witch hunts were in the mid 1300s and continued all the way into the late 1700s. Before that, European Kingdoms were very much concerned with waging wars against non-christians and converting as many people as possible to christianity. The Celtic Druids and Germanic Völur were both very well respected parts of their respective societies believed to have powerful magic, mostly for healing, fortune telling, and communication with gods and spirits. Even older societies had shamans, medicine men, and similar professions, where people who are believed to have magic powers are held in high esteem within the society, to a simmilar degree as a king or a chieftain.
Druids and Völur, among others, are theorized to have later joined/merged together into what was later called witchcraft.
The fact that the Wizarding World gives very little details on that, and those details only match actual history in very few select instances, may be to the fact that JK Rowling slept in history class just as every Hogwarts student sleeps in the presence of Professor Binns. So what Mrs Rowling knows about history comes close to "Literally Nothing". As in, if we told her castles in Germany were all built by Hitler, yes all of them, she'd have no reason to not believe us, because she doesn't know any better.

I disagree with this video it has been stated on the wizarding world site that many malfoy' s integrated themselves in high muggle circle' s. Constantly earning favor from muggle royalty and even adding muggle artifacts to their collection. As a matter of fact the malfoys were very opposed to the international statue of secrecy when it was announced since it meant they would lose their connections with the muggle elite. The only reason they supported it later was because it was already passed into law and it became clear the ministry of magic was the new heart of power. So as not to lose any power they pretented to have supported it from the start and denied having ever been on speaking terms with muggles.

Your story does sound very plausible. However, it does reinforce a big question that I've had about this series. How many of Voldemort's followers knew that out of the bigger characters in the second war he has the second lowest blood purity. If you think about it out of all the main characters in the second war only Hermione is below him on the list for magical purity, even Harry is above him in purity. I mean out of all the characters only Voldemort and Hermione don't have a witch and wizard as their parents. Which makes me wonder how they would react if they hadn't known. I'm sure people like Lucius's father and those that went to school with him would have known, but did Lucius and his generation know?

Racism is complex. It's wrong, but people form those beliefs for a reason, then often teach them to their children. My dad's mother died just after he turned 9. His family was poor and didn't live near any black people. At some point, he was sent to live with his oldest sister, who was married to a black man at the time. Unfortunately, this particular man was hateful and abusive. Since he was the only black person my dad knew, he thought all black people were like that. Fortunately, he never taught us to dislike people based on the color of their skin, but he did hold some strong beliefs. We couldn't invite black friends to sleepovers and he made it clear that he didn't want us dating black boys. We used to argue about things like that so much, but I never knew why he held those beliefs until my mom explained it to me after Daddy died.

I never thought the comparison between the pureblood purists and Nazis (or any other sort of group) was a good one. Like you touched on it in this video, wizardkind has been pursued throughout history by muggles & they are quite almost exponentially outnumbered by muggles. To me, the wizard “race” of humans always seem to me a dying one, one struggling to stay alive between external factors and its internal conflicts.
The equation of purist wizardkind to racists and Nazis is skipping over vast nuisances & is disingenuous at most.
Not even getting into the sociopolitical context of wizards being persecuted throughout human history by every human culture that has existed, but purely on genetic basis.
We don’t know the exact “genetic makeup” of magic, but it is safe to say that magic isn’t a dominant trait. This means that just because one muggle parent may have wizarding genes it doesn’t guarantee wizarding offspring at all. We know muggles carry wizarding genes, but these must be recessive or a more complex genetic code or function brought upon by magic only. This is evident because two muggle parents can breed a wizard offspring, meaning the wizarding gene must be within some of those two bloodlines. If the gene was dominant, any one parent with magical genes should be putting out magical offspring left and right at a rate more accelerated than what we can extrapolate from the canon. Now we get into the crossing of direct magic genes with muggle genes. Again, we can’t say 100% about the genetics involved, but it’s a safe bet that the mixing of magic & muggle genes can have a 50% chance of dealing out magic offspring and 50% chance of non-magical offspring. Then we take into account squibs. We don’t necessarily know the population of squibs in the Harry Potter universe at large, but I know of 3 or 4 squibs from canon, so this is also a safe bet that two magical parents very rarely, extremely rarely, give off non-magical offspring. But even then, even then, the odds are stacked against magickind.
The best bet, having a 99.9999% chance of dealing off magical offspring, is pureblood breeding. It is clear, and logical, that interbreeding with muggles can decrease the chances of magical offspring. Thus, mass adoption & encouraging of interbreeding with muggles will, over time, dilute the magical potential & bloodline of wizardkind. This will lead to the birth of more and more non-magical offspring than magical offspring, who they themselves will go on to reproduce and make more non-magical offspring in a negative feeding cycle for wizardkind. With the odd “mudblood” here and there, not enough to replenish the losing numbers and declining birth rates of wizardkind. Not to mention their genetic pool & birth rates are already being reduced and affected by internal conflicts and deaths which seem to permeate the entire wizarding world.
For wizards to so openly encourage and support interbreeding with muggles is a detriment to wizardkind. This by no means makes it right to hate or even murder muggles (not that muggles aren’t in large, hungry for wizard blood at the stake but that’s neither here nor there 😂). I think muggles and wizards can and should intermingle, I think they shouldn’t hate or be killing one another. I think if a wizard falls in love with a muggle then so be it. I don’t think mudbloods should be discriminated against, if anything, they should be applauded, as they are now the root of a new wizarding bloodline & should in my opinion, marry and reproduce with other wizardkind, to cement a new bloodline of pure magical genes, and expand the amount of wizards who can then go on and breed more wizards.
All to say, I don’t think discrimination between the parties should occur, even less killing each other. But I also don’t think supporting interbreeding for the sake of inclusivity, and pc crap is good, it’s detrimental to the future of wizard and magical genes. I don’t think wizarding blood should be diluted through the generations, and I think muggle-borns should be praised and appreciated and used to build more pureblood families.
Like this isn’t even a race or ethnicity difference, we’re quite literally talking about magic 😂 a clear advantage, making wizardkind better and more fit than muggles. Magickind could’ve exterminated muggle life on earth whenever they chose to quite easily. Wizardkind is obviously above and superior to muggles. I don’t see why people assume that whenever this is the case that it has to always lead to hate and discrimination. Shit, we all have differences that makes us unique, it just so happens that magic is a difference that is quite above all of ours 😂
I think magic blood should be preserved, not by force but by “magical patriotism” and pride. Again, muggle-borns should be welcomed with more than open arms.

In my personal opinion, I believe the Malfoys also hate Americans, both magical and non-magical.
And I can most definitely see the Malfoys being mutant haters in the Marvel Universe.
They would presumably hear about mutants through somebody in the Ministry of Magic and they would without a doubt be one of wizarding Britain's BIGGEST outspoken anti-mutant activists where they all have placed their feet down firmly on anti-mutant bigotry and sentiments other than activities, which would be derived from their prejudiced and bigoted hatred of muggles, muggle-borns, and part-creatures. And they would forcibly push for the Ministry of Magic to have all mutants, irrespective of their magical and non-magical blood statuses and nationalities to be branded as "dark creatures" via bribes of dirty money, which would derive from Umbitch's anti-werewolf legislation at the Ministry. And corrupt, dishonest, and crooked politicians like Fumbling Fudge would readily agree with the Malfoys to pass such legislation in the wizarding world based on him being a bootlicker and apple polisher to dark families, especially the Malfoys.

And the reason for for pure bloods hate of half bloods/ muggle born and those who married them is the same as what happened to many women who have had relationships with the germans during ww2 they were punished after the war for collaborating with the enemy who had caused the nation so much pain and suffering
