If you come across it on Ebay, it's not always cheap, but the Uruguay pressing of Beatles Rarities is a neat variation too. It has the US front cover and US gatefold with the butcher cover photo inside, but the back of the cover is the UK rarities cover and song line-up and on the record too. Cool oddity.

I have a peeled Butcher Cover, and an unpeeled copy of it. The peeled version is in excellent shape, Your re-issues or anniversary purple capitol copy were very interesting as I didnt know those issues existed! Thanks. Mark

Great video. Your collection always amazes me. I mention you in my latest video along with a few of my other Beatles heroes. Just a brief mention but it is from the heart. I haven't heard a health update lately but you are in my thoughts and prayers always. I found a butcher at a record store last summer for only $30!I'm not peeling mine either. Have a great weekend.

I got my copy from my grandpa who got it at a Vinyl Shop in July 1966.

Hey Brad where did you get the Cd Butcher Album ? Is it from the original US Albums ?

The whole pasting over of the original cover was part of the Paul Is Dead thing. Because we started off being shown a bloody, gory mess of controversy. Which then was hastily 'covered up'. As in 'it was a cover up'. Literally. With a very weak and uncharismatic paste-over with Paul in the trunk.
You have to then peel away the layers off the cover to find the gruesome crime scene / true cover.

I just have a trunk cover, Scranton PA printed. I'm just glad to have a version from that era. Great episode!
A new story I've read is that the butcher image was supposed to be one of three images; a concept the photographer Robert Whitaker came up with. The whole piece was to be named "A Somnambulant Adventure".
It was meant to be commentary on the absurd way they were being almost worshipped by some fans; like golden calves.
Anyway, google it when you have a minute. It's a fascinating story.

6:15 - They sold at first on the Home Shopping Club channel with a limited run of a thousand or so. Not me, but another record collector I know also got his copy in the mid 80's.

i have an original butcher i found years ago when i was visiting my cousin in LA and she had it in her garage with a bunch of her old albums that she was getting ready to throw away! of course i asked if i can have it and she kindly let me

I have 2 originals that are peeled. One was my original and the other I found randomly on a trip though Montrose Colorado , in an antique flee market store on the main drag. Must have been in the early 2000’s.

In actuality brad both stories about the butcher cover you mentioned are urban legends. Not to long ago I sat in on a discussion about this album given by Bruce Spizer. He went through the history of the album. Nice video buddy..

My profile pic is from 1974, (when I had hair, lol). I've changed a bit, but still listen to my music and am young at heart.
Great video Brad! I have mono and stereo second state copies of the butcher cover and like you I will keep them second states. Too many people are making third state copies. I don’t feel there is a need to ruin second state copies especially if you can get it on an official cd or color bootleg vinyl...my copy is orange! Keep up the great work!!

Hope you're feeling a whole lot better. Love your channel. Saw the band in Sydney, Australia in 1964 and still got the program. 12 song list as I recall. 3 or 4 support acts-not uncommon in those days.

14:57 - On my external hard drive I have a pic of when they were filming the Paperback Writer/Rain outdoors films and there's a pic of Brian Epstein smiling while looking down at a sample photo of the butcher cover too. I'm pretty well sure they sent it as a joke thinking it'd get rejected. In the UK the photo was also used to promote the Paperback Writer/Rain single which was probably why cellophane art was circulating for the Ed Sullivan footage, not realizing Capitol wouldn't use the same promo materials.

This video was very, very interesting, Beatle Brad. I love hearing about the history of this album and the cover photo!! Do you have an original 1st state "butcher cover" album from 1966 in your collection somewhere?
I hope you show it if you have one, sir!!! I have always been interested in the history of this album and the reasons for the cover photo. You would think that Brian would've voted down this cover photo idea after having to bail John out about the "Greater than JESUS" comment earlier on that year. You would also think that Brian would tell the guys to lay low and not upset the "apple cart", so to speak.

Oh no! That guy in the white coat is coming to take me away again. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of the Butcher cover, BUT that trunk cover is just plain stupid. Its truly a great album, though.

4:55 There were 1000 made with the 4 page booklets and recall letter in 1985 printed from a first state mono cover we obtained at our record shop and had printed in Detroit.

Hey Brad, possibly some day I will own a Butcher cover album, but somehow I doubt it. But you have everything. It was great seeing it all. The recent story I heard is that the photographer that the Beatles themselves chose for the session was a bit of a wacky conceptual artist and that every picture taken that day was his idea and his alone, and that Ringo especially did not want to do it. Again, great collection and I have some catching up to do on your videos. Take care...

Hi my friend , good to see you, great video with lots of goodies....well i have 7 Stereo copies and 14 Mono copies all minf condition.....Naaaaaa...hahaha...i wish....😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣but i do have 3 copies , 1 Trunk cover with Shrink wrap (later copy) and 2 Butcher ones( bootlegs)...wish they were doing A "Vegan cover" holding Carrots or something as im a Vegetarian... i just cant stand to see that meat😣but it what it is😉

Hi. An interesting video. However, I may have missed something, but I'm sure you know that none of those promotional items are genuine artifacts from the time of release. All were made many years later without authorization by Capitol or EMI, including
the poster. I do like the colour vinyl bootleg and would not mind having a copy.

The seams for the most part aren't together so also would you restore it in some way? Or leave it as is?
You know it is now getting harder and more collectible to not have it peeled . It dose seem like everybody is peeling them and the ones that are not . Are going to be more rare !!!! Yesterday & Today was the first Beatle album I got. I never really looked at it to closely to see if it is a paste over. I may look at it more closely. How can you tell if it's a paste over? Again I'm fascinated by this info. on the Butcher album. Take care Brad

And dose it have the rainbow ring around the lp ?. It is a pit hard to see Ringo black shirt at times so you need good light . Good to be out side . But not necessary . Very nice video brad. I have a original butcher mono great shape and I nevergonna peel it. You really see ringos face through the paper. Unpeeled becoming rare these days. For every stereo there were 5 monos. So im still looking for a stereo copy. I have a bootleg from john lennon personal butcher wich he traded with a fan for a bootleg with a fan in the 70s. He signed it for him and the fan had it later signed by paul and ringo.It never made it to george sadly. Have a nice weekend! Grtz leo

According to Sir Paul and others THE BUTCHER COVER was an artsyfartsy thing either Roger Whitaker or Robert Freeman wanted to do for the Paperback Writer single and someone said lets do it fo an album. BUT I think the protest against Vietnam plays better

For some strange reason, in the U.S. you didn't get the full quota of tracks on their albums like we did in the U.K. So this album is simply made up of the tracks that were omitted from the original albums.

Worked in a California record store in 1972. We found two originals. Spent all night steaming off the replacement covers.

As for your last question before you signed off on this post, l have heard both stories about the reason they made this cover. The war reason was one reason and the Beatles turning out something on demand like a butcher slices meat on demand....that was a second reason, l have heard numerous times. Yeah, l have heard both reasons for photographing this picture. What did you hear about it growing up? (Just curious.)

@@beatlebrad5339 I first saw Across The Universe back when it first came out in the theater. They all sing live in the movie too. If you have Netflix it's on there. I first had it on DVD and now I have it on Blu-ray. It's such an amazing movie and I have the two disc CD soundtrack of it as well.

Very nice! Hopefully one day I will get a butcher. My best bet is to find one in a goodwill or something haha. Cool Japan copy! I will get a Japanese beatles album some day to compare the vinyl quality.
As for the story of why they did the cover, I think it has to do with their image. I think the photo shoot guy (don’t remember his name right now) chose the creative direction and the Beatles went along with it. But I’ll have to do some reading because it’s not too fresh in my memory.

The cover was a double protest. Against Capitol for "raping" their albums and against The War In Vietnam.
But prude America wasn't ready for this cover. And Brian Epstein made some heavy protest against releasing the cover. He wanted his lads to be clean.
The original Butcher you have is great. And indeed I wouldn't peal it either.
I have an original cd from 2014 and a bootleg Butcher vinyl from some years ago.

Hey Beatle Brad whats up cool video , Nice collection there , of the yesterday & today butcher cover & the later cover with the trunk , they said in the second cover , if you turn it on it side , it looked like Paul was in a coffin , really cool cd reproduction cover on it as well , awesome assortment of yesterday & today , yes there was several theories on what the cover ment , like you said the American label well butching there albums so hence the butcher coats , then a lot believing it was a socal commentary against the Vietnam war at the time , knowing the Beatles for not being afraid to say whats on there mind it could have been any & all those things for sure yes , I got a Beatles Butcher button on my rock & roll hat , cool book , those boots are where , nice Japan yesterday & today , picture disc is incredible wow , Rarities was a cool album at the times , awesome Beatles yesterday & today dvd bootleg nice , nice Beatles autograph photo , cool bunch of stuff , thanks for sharing , I got a text from my brother in Missouri today , he said it looks like your temperature is 63 , he said hes at 16 , he said you want to switch weather , , na thanks that's ok ha , thanks cool stuff take care Rock on Peace

You "Butchered" this video..I liked the sealed blue version cover..I just designed a mini lp CD with the blue cover. That originally was the 1st design, but Lennon wanted the butcher instead. I really like the blue trunk cover better than the white one.
You know actually I do like the Blue one a lot and wish that was it !!!! I hope that you are doing well With all of this chemo I am getting very week . I do push my self but my wife and the Doc are not to happy with it !!! But I do like to do videos and it looks like I am just fine in them but I am ready to pass out after that lol .
