This is probably one of the best Staccato reviews I’ve seen. Most people love or hate them without really shooting them that much. Looking forward on your thoughts on the P.
I've been carrying the XC on duty for several months now after my admin opened up our policy to Staccatos. Staccato recommended a 10lbs recoil spring and I'm running about a 4-4.5 lbs trigger. I've had no issues so far. One thing I will say is this pistol needs care, I check to make sure it is properly oiled before every shift.
My recollection is that was the spring weight on the duty version as advertised or spec'd. I'm old, near the end of Police life expectancy, so don't hold it against me if I'm wrong.😅 10ish pounds does seem to be the universal spring weight for 5" 9mm 1911s /2011s. It works. I didn't spec the duty version, I wanted the nice trigger, but I knew going in the 7lb would be too weak for anything other than a range toy.
Ben is a horrible gun reviewer. Next time he needs to shoot less rounds , have horrible shooting fundamentals, shill for the brand, and make outrageous claims about the performance of the gun. That’s what the rest of goobertoober reviewers do.
Good review. I think there is sort of a third and half type of user who is familiar with pistols and wants to buy something top of the line-ish but still a production gun with lots of support, access to mags, not a two year wait, etc. That gives them something to use and improve where they know it probably isn't the gun's fault if something goes wrong (assuming it is lubed and sprung properly), but if it is the gun it is easy to send it back for repair.
Solid review. For 99% of people, the gun really doesn't matter. It's the same 9mm round in every single gun anyway. You could be a great shooter with a stock Glock, and shoot way better than someone who has the latest and greatest / most tricked out 2011 in the world but only shoots a box of ammo once or twice year. I'd say any Staccato is a good albeit expensive option for someone who is looking to begin their little journey outward from the more ubiquitous "starter pack" striker-fired polymer guns, but doesn't want to drop $4k+ for something truly niche and custom. Basically a hobbyist / enthusiast purchase to have fun with every once in awhile, and nothing else. And if it's for duty use, it's a fine option, but moreso a flex / status thing depending on your agency's culture, since it doesn't do anything a Glock or a Smith already does.
I would argue it does matter since most people DONT shoot enough and so when they pick up a staccato it makes them feel like John wick. I am fully convinced this is where like 90% of the 1911s popularity comes from, it's just an easy gun to shoot accurately and most people can't shoot and don't practice and want to just buy skill
I was about to buy one. Got a DWX instead...yes, had to ship the slide off to have it milled for red dot but the grip fit is better AND it doesn't come from the factory with a plastic trigger. Plastic on a big spend? IDK. I'm very happy with the DWX for a good amout saved.

Prior to that, I used oil on the rails and the C2 would start to "run dry" after 500 or so rounds; I would feel it "slowing down". I'm a 1911 guy and what I found to be the only issues I have with 2011 or DS pistols is the mag releases and slide stop/release seems to be a bit out of reach other than that I love them. Great review bruh...😎
Every time I try one of these custom/semi custom 2011's Taran Tactical Sandviper, Vudoo Priest, etc my initial reaction is always "DAMN this gun shoots great! How much is it?" and then they tell me and I get sad.
I think he'd be impressed, I was. The ordering experience and the finished product. Best value in the 2011/ DS1911 market for what you get. I call it the Gloccato.😂
If you want to be legit good at shooting - put your time, money and energy in to ammunition a dry fire book and a range membership. If you want to have a really cool gun - buy a Staccato.
In my OPINION, as a LE duty sidearm, no it doesn't make sense at all. That is not saying that there is something wrong with the pistol or that is not worth buying. It will only be justified in a really small agency with a really big budget. Or a LEO that have more money that he makes as LEO.
It would for the dude that draws his weapon 3-5 times per week and a dude doing warrants waiting for a rescue call. The patrol fairy doesn’t need this. Leaving out girl cops of course

Great video. Are you able to share any performance gain data compared to other guns like glocks? Split times? Bill drills? Dickens drills? Anything like that? Would be very interesting.
I'm probably going to sell my P and get an XC. People who can't shoot well won't benefit much from a staccato. If you can tell the performance difference between a 2011 and a Glock, the money makes sense. The XC is a bit overpriced imo compared to the P but nice things cost money. Luxury items are just nice to own. A Rolex, a fancy sports car, a staccato etc.. if you can afford it, enjoy your nice things.
I would think its the other way around. Anyone would feel that the 2011 is easier to shoot, and it would make the biggest difference to ppl that cant shoot. Not the other way around
I've shot comped guns from retention...not a problem. People who complain about it are nitpicking or deliberately creating a situation where it becomes a problem.
I would still make mental errors running stages with a Staccato. It's a very sad story. :) Until my stage planning improves, I'll continue to run a Glock.
I'd like to shoot one, but I don't know if I'd put up that kind of money for a gun that shoots 9mm. I'm quite happy with my Glock 17. Maybe one day when I have more money than sense lol. Anyway, solid review from someone that I know used and abused their Staccato. I thought they were pretty stupid before, but as you said, they have their place and if you can afford it, why not?
That’s good thinking. I recommend to my students to get a gun they enjoy shooting as well as their carry gun. It’s a confidence building gun. My student today was hitting A zone at 30 yards, she could do maybe half that with her carry gun. It’s a boost.
Are you in 1939? Starting salary is $60k in my town, major cities is more. SGTs in phoenix are making over $150k. Most cops are clueless about guns. The ones that are into being excellent shooters, are in special units and understand this could make a difference, buy them. We get the P and they give an amazing discount,15% off, three free mags and the plate you need. Not everyone lives paycheck to paycheck.

The C2 is easy to conceal appendix. P with a more subtle magwell would be no problem depending on one's build. I'm going to look at a replacement grip for my C2.
Disagree. First the S2 is DA/SA although there is a SAO only version. The Staccato balances better. The S2 is way too heavy to be anything but a range/competition toy and is significantly heavier than even the steel framed P. If you're only looking for a range toy/competition gun then maybe, but I personally enjoy shooting the Staccato way more than the S2. The Staccato P/XC are capable of fulfilling duty/self defense/even carry roles... S2 not a chance.
You shouldn’t be using the same gun for training, competition and carry anyway. For price of XC you can own separate guns for all three uses and they’ll each be better than it at each thing.
@@lukenick2299 I don't think that's necessarily wrong, but you should consider owning multiples of the same gun, whatever it is, for training/competition/carry. Also, if you really shoot that much that you need separate guns for all three roles, your cost of ammo, gear, training, etc is going to approach or surpass the initial, one time cost of the gun.
I don't believe the price to quality is there. With so many other actual custom manufacturers out there I feel as though most people Should spend their money elsewhere to get a product worth the price. The xc should only be around $2500-$3000 for the lack Of actual custom components and options available not to mention it's not actually hand fit which the gun should be for that price.
@@Eio395 I'll argue they can be more reliable. My mpa which is more custom than staccato went 25k before breaking a component. It has now gone close to 5k rounds with zero malfunctions and very little cleaning. Depends on the gun and mileage may vary as always
Absolute nonsense. The only comparable full sized 2011's with flush integral comps out there start at ~$1K more than this, and only go up from there, especially if you want to match the feature set this provides. NHC TRS Comp is one of the 'cheapest' comparable options, starting at $5200, but will take ~a year to be built, cost even more to have all the features the XC has standard, potentially have QC issues depending on what smith you get, and has a glued on, two piece compensator vs a one piece barrel/comp with the XC. The Phoenix Trinity Tac series is another one of the 'cheapest' similar options...also starts at $5200, but unlike both the XC and TRS, doesn't even come with DLC for that price, just cerakote. Also uses a locking block vs Browning action that has been known to break, and their crappy customer service will blame you for that if they can, to try to slither out of fixing it. Don't even get me started on the $7K TTI options with horrible fitment, or the $8K+ options from Atlas. Everything is relative, and the XC is a great value relative to guns that it's meant to compete against, it's got the best fitment Staccato offers, which is better than quite a few more expensive options, and carries a fantastic warranty as well.
I think the guns are awesome but I'm in the camp of thought that they are definitely overpriced by some greedy schmuck at that company who controls the pricing. The materials alone are less than $350/400, not including the kickback a manufacturer gets for the scrap material they turn in that can't be used. The 2011's that are priced around $1k to $1500 are realistic in pricing. Being the owner of a few STI-era guns, they are really nice, but they aren't the ultimate hammer fired double stack platform. It's all in taste and how much of that Kool-Aid you're willing to drink LOL
Another thought, on grip feel, grip safety, I'm thinking Cheely aluminum E2 grip with pinned safety.😂 Im incapable of leaving anything stock. Its a disease.

I must say wish more reviewers were like you not nit picking about every damn thing either you want the damn pistol or not especially those that get the pistols not paying a damn dime for it and acting as if they are experts who can barely shoot.
How much is it?" and then they tell me and I get sad.
dawson used to sell a custom sti that was probably a better gun for less than half that. john wick or inflation?
Would love to get your take on the Stealth Arms Platypus like you did with the XC.
I think he'd be impressed, I was. The ordering experience and the finished product. Best value in the 2011/ DS1911 market for what you get. I call it the Gloccato.😂
Used by zero units. He is using the staccato for a reason.
Units? I got a unit for ya right here!
That thing is a piece of shyte
@@Rubeless got it!!
I'm sure that was aimed at me, poorly.😅 I'm white as the driven snow, vote republican support gun rights, self defense, the citizenry as the militia and all that was once good and right in America. What now?😅
@@jayjason423 Don't waste your time brother, this guy is a troll not interested in conversation. I thought he was and responded to one of his comments till I kept reading all the other comments and responses.
Would it be wrong to say a Duty gun should be something with virtually no maintenance like a Glock?
Yes, it’s wrong. It’s something you’re trusting your life to. You should maintain it. Glock got us spoiled.
Yes
If you’re using a gun for duty use and depend your life on it. Don’t you think it would be a good idea to do maintenance on it?

Soccer guy again, just fall over and yell foul.
Ben, do you think the XC would be reliable with a 9# recoil spring, or the 11# was necessary?
Steggler, please recommend someone to train with in CA. I’m near Santa Barbara but will travel.
He is in AZ, hello
I've shot comped guns from retention...not a problem. People who complain about it are nitpicking or deliberately creating a situation where it becomes a problem.
I would still make mental errors running stages with a Staccato. It's a very sad story. :) Until my stage planning improves, I'll continue to run a Glock.
Everyone walks before running
I'd like to shoot one, but I don't know if I'd put up that kind of money for a gun that shoots 9mm. I'm quite happy with my Glock 17. Maybe one day when I have more money than sense lol.
Anyway, solid review from someone that I know used and abused their Staccato. I thought they were pretty stupid before, but as you said, they have their place and if you can afford it, why not?
Just wait till Ben discovers the Stealth Arms platypus.
I think I want to be a better shooter first I struggle with trigger control locking my wrists but I will get one eventually
That’s good thinking. I recommend to my students to get a gun they enjoy shooting as well as their carry gun. It’s a confidence building gun. My student today was hitting A zone at 30 yards, she could do maybe half that with her carry gun. It’s a boost.
You ever come up to Maine or around here? Im sold on taking one of your classes!
You won’t ever take a class. If you were going to, you’d go to the site and see for yourself.
@@Rubeless Weird take

Great review. Duty pistol…I remain sceptical. How many LEO can afford it? Cops require pistols built like 4x4s
Are you in 1939? Starting salary is $60k in my town, major cities is more. SGTs in phoenix are making over $150k. Most cops are clueless about guns. The ones that are into being excellent shooters, are in special units and understand this could make a difference, buy them. Excited to see you do the same with the P. They ship with a heavier spring so I’m hoping you find it exceptional right out of the box
For most part he is right. Sold my Cz orange to fund my 2011 and instantly regretted it. They are not duty ready. Vogel started with one and ditched it for Glock and never looked back.

Hi Ben, I’m looking to get an XC and if you want to sell yours, I would be interested.
Rem oil? Ben uses that water?
Yes. If you can afford it.
So when are you gonna grab an Erebus for comparison? 😉
Is there any reason to try concealed carrying this or the P, maybe with the magwell removed?
The C2 is easy to conceal appendix. P with a more subtle magwell would be no problem depending on one's build. I'm going to look at a replacement grip for my C2.
Anybody know at what distance he zeroes his red dot?
The Shadow 2 will do 90% of what the XP can do for less than half the price.
So?
A geek says what
Not relevant to the video but thoughts on 17 vs 34 for carry optics? I’ve been running a stock 17 and want to get another one for carry optics.
Why not just buy another slide and do it up how you want?
@@EdwardSnortin I thought of that but I couldn’t find a slide that was significantly cheaper than a new G5 MOS. Unless I missed one.
Agreed
I don't believe the price to quality is there. With so many other actual custom manufacturers out there I feel as though most people
Should spend their money elsewhere to get a product worth the price. The xc should only be around $2500-$3000 for the lack
Of actual custom components and options available not to mention it's not actually hand fit which the gun should be for that price.
Full custom isn’t better, costs slightly more and you will wait a year at least.
Take another selfie
@@Rubelesswon’t be as reliable either. Old STI guys know all the stuff they had to do to keep STI guns and mags up and running throughout a match lol
@@Rubeless I'll argue the wait doesn't have to be as long. My mpa which is arguably more custom than a staccato had a very fast turn around time
@@Eio395 I'll argue they can be more reliable.

Because you don’t shoot and don’t have any experience.
Lot of cops carrying the P
Would you actually enter an open competition with that gun? Could you place?
The issue with the xc is that it's not open enough to compete in open but it's too open to be in limited optics
@@Shimtacthat’s exactly the discussion I had yesterday night at the range with someone. I have an XC and I love it, but if you shoot competitions it doesn’t “fit” anywhere. It’s definitely not competing with true open guns.

You’re probably not wrong, but the P will run out of the box, prodigy doesn’t have that reputation.
