Tremendous job in this video Parker, well done! It's an absolute beast of a camera as far of image quality goes, the only drawback really is the highly compressed H.265 codec which is much harder to edit in post, even with a powerful workstation. That said, it's definitely a solid option for video in 2020.

One small note about the codecs...if you switch it out of "log" mode the codec changes to 8 bit h.264 just like the 1dx ii and it is much easier on the computer to edit. So for those who want quick turnaround with minimal editing, this may be a good option. Thanks for sharing though, great video!

Great comparison! I'd love to see dynamic range tests in low light and harsh sun with the EOS R vs 1DX III vs C500 II, vs R5 (when the R5 becomes available), shooting in 4K 10-bit and RAW (for cameras that have that available).

Both have really good specs and Canon did step it up in the DSLR market, but a RED Dragon-X or Raven still have a great advantage for post.

Hahaha! But I really was a little disappointed in that 4k Full Frame without an auto-focus. Comparing the files with the 5.5k, I think the CFExpress can hold it.

Frown...lol. I canceled my preorder for the R5 and preorders the Sony a7siii. I am completely switching systems so I keep contemplating ordering the IDX iii or if I go Sony, buying a second body for stills,. 🤦🏼♂️ Such a big investment, I just don’t want to have any regrets.

I even think the a7s iii is better than the 1DX, but that all depends on what your needs are and what type of photo/video work you do. All in all, props to Sony.

I love Parker, he is a beast! this camera is grossly over priced for the time we are living in. save some money Get a bmpcc 4k, and accessories, get a really good lens and some good lights and get to work.

I got it a few weeks ago. It gave me a higher quality in the professional field, specially for a commercial. But for fast and burn content, it's not needed.

today i’m still loving the mk iii // i especially love, in the age of mirrorless, shooting in Live View, silent at 20fps with full auto focus! even today with the R3 and Nikon’s Z9.

4:42 for that problem you can set your camera to PAL video, there you have the option to record 25fps

( I do understand it works using a Canon autofocus lens (non-CN-E) set to manual focus, though.)

Great video! Have you experienced any of the "oil spills" on the DX cameras? I am looking into buying a 1dx mark iii, and all this internet chatter about the phenomena is making me second guess.
I completely get that the features the 1dxiii offers are worth the 6.5k that it cost, but what do u think is a better deal: that or the 1dxii for 3k on eBay used?

Have you guys used the James Miller C-Log3 picture profile for the 1DX MKII? How does it compare to the C-Log in the MKIII? Is there a benefit to using the C-Log3 profile on the MKII or is it best to just use Neutral and flatten it out? Thanks
This camera is targeted to a specific group with specific needs. But still wouldn't mind owning one lol
Also what do you guys think about the Panasonic S1H? Might be something worth checking for you guys
Its targeted to those it has always been targeted to: portrait, events, and sports/wildlife professional photographers. That said, nowadays these professional also realize the value of added video to their specialty.
The S1H is a beast of a camera, best dynamic range in the business just behind c500 mark 2 and Alexa, the only problem its the L mount it uses, which is new and not widely available

@@fulltimefilmmaker yeah fair enough. I find footage from BMPCC 6K and Panasonic S1H to look better even on UA-cam, but you're right, it's all overkill for YT content. Nice video by the way ;)

@@fulltimefilmmaker Because so many photographers are often obsessed with the nth degree in capability, even if there's almost zero chance they'll use it. There's a tremendous amount of equipment lust out there, always has been with camera gear. That's why in this hyper-market of The Next Big Thing being released every eight months or so photographers are dumping whole systems more often than some people change their socks. It's crazy. Thanks for another good video.

Thank you for sharing. Honestly I was hoping to see some “wow!” Footage but, it looks no better then the R or the 5D4. I think it will only be noticeable when 5k TVs are more popular, watching it on an iPhone 11 or a 1080p tv will not be noticeable at all, plus, you should’ve edited out the blurry or off focus scenes.
Definitely stoked on the new camera not stoked so much on getting the new required cards... I have the 1Dx Markii basically just want the 10bit color depth in 4K I don’t see myself shouting 5.5k raw unless the client will pay for that hard drive... because that’s basically what I’d be looking at I’ll hang on to my Markii for the 24fps at 1080p which I use if I’m making something simple that will only ever end up being IG story or something! I’m just ready for the production to get going again. The money is set aside for this... but at the current moment canon has reserved the last bit of 1Dx markiii bodies for those that are shooting the Olympic. I just find it super interesting as I watch the impacts with all the current events of things!
mmh what about rolling shutter ? Sometimes looks like the 1dx iii has some problems (like the night handheld test at the end)

Please help~ I’m trying to decide between 1DX Mk3 and R5. I most shoot photos and not much video. I usually shoot events, so very dark places and people moving fast. With my 6Dii, 5 out of 10 shots are blurred & can’t use them. If money is not an issue, which one do u think is better?

Davinci Resolve has native support for latest Canon Raw from this camera. Supports decoding to C-Log 2 and 3.
To me, this is just a big monster of a camera and I never quite liked it. BUT, this will for sure push everyone forward to get serious about raw video codecs for these hybrid cameras and I can't have enough of that. Glad to see Canon is also marching forward. Also, to me, the raw recording is by far the biggest deal here, and for that alone I'd upgrade if I liked the Mark ii or iii. Once you get into raw video and all it has to offer, there's really no way back. Not for me, anyway.
Although I'm one of those people who went back in firmware initially because CDNG was better quality than BRAW not minding the 10x file size, so we clearly have very different priorities.

Jake, what is reason for you to upgrade? You are not going to use raw or 10 bit in 60fps because of lack of AF which you need (i saw many job shadows). Also why you are so excited about high color depth, many times Parker says that he likes cannon for great colors straight out of camera.
This would definitely replace my Canon 5D Mk IV for sports photography.
