    I coach defense for EJC and we played a team that perfected the jet sweep and backside power. You have to pick your poison. They ran it under center, where the qb just backed up and handed to the wr. After getting the ball, he would bend way from the line of scrimmage and work to the sideline. I used six man fronts and dropped the SS down to stop the jet. I really wasn't worried about their pass. Single back spy with the Will LB. Angled the D-line a few times with success. Really came down to wr speed. I like your idea of using a cone to teach depth. I even used a 4-5 defense and shifted to the jet side freeing up two tacklers. I'll be switching to offensive play calling. Plan on using Jet, Power, Bunch sweep, zone blocking with bootlegs and quick hitters to the TE. Our offense ran out of Spread and we couldn't run the ball effectively. I'll be using a 7 man front.

    Also that is a very good point that the ILB may gap exchange with the DE and cause a major problem in a keep read scenario. But in our run and reach scheme the backside tackle would be responsible for any backer in B gap or a soft 3.

    Yes, all depends on what you do with the sniffer. We use the term bluff when he is going back across the formation. We also use him as a kickout and run straight gives to the TB.

    Two ways to simplify it depending on how who you like with the ball. Ill give you this example from Florida a few years ago. When Chris Leak ran read schemes he read to see if anyone could tackle the back(in this case DE) and he always gave unless he felt the read could tackle the back. When Tebow ran the same scheme he read it as can anyone tackle him(DE) If he felt like he could not be tackled he kept. That eliminates the squeeze,widen terminology.

    I do not disagree with that at all. It's a game of sharing ideas and college guys get stuff from high school and vice versa.

    Wow thank u for making this I normally like the idea of fast qbs but Im typically not in love with the option although I do like veer opt with a pulling guard so although it can go under or around the d end its still going one direction and is almost a power play but I always say why not just run typicall standard run plays with the QB and this is wut that is THANK YOU

  • @CoachMac
    @CoachMac  10 років тому

    Tim,
    We use a concept like that off of our inside read veer game and its called bluff. We run inside veer which means that the QB will be an outside runner on keep reads. The sniffer or fullback will arc release to the perimeter for the force player. Usually works best when the sniffer comes from the opposite side. I am not sure about the jet read using the sniffer for the QB because you need the sniffer to help with the ILB that might gap exchange with the DE on down block read schemes.

    Jason,
    We do not run a lot of true power from the pistol but I would open up to it and either play action fake or bootleg away. That's how we do it from our 3 back stuff.

    Coached for a program that only ran gap scheme (Power, Counter, etc.) we would always protect against wrong arms with a pin and pull scheme (Buck Sweep).

    Im sorry Tim, i was talking about front side LB. If you are running outside zone and think you can get to him with o line then you could use the sniffer on the backside force player if the qb keeps. When we run power read the front side de is unblocked and a lot of times the ilb will run over the top so we need the sniffer for him.

    We always read the C gap defender. In the 3-5-3 someone has to make themselves a C Gap defender so we do not say its the end or the backer, we just say C gap defender.I would read the first defender outside the TE.

      That's the nature of the game though! I love Coach dialogue because word creation is so common and yet it always seems to still make perfect sense, and in some cases it adds clarity to what's trying to be conveyed. Either way, fantastic video. Excellent explanation and very fun, dynamic, and explosive concepts.

    I think the problem with the 6-2 is there may be 2 players outside the tackle so you have to block the olb and read the end.

    Do you guys use the read concept with Counter as well? We had a lot of success with that as well: Fly sweep to backside of counter / Qb reads backside End / Qb keeps on counter if End plays sweep. It compliments that Power read well and fits with the gap concept structure. We had a Qb that could throw it though, so we were very conservative with how much we did those plays. That made them more potent though, as the defense did not respect the Qb as a running threat at all. If I didn't have a Qb who could throw it though, I'd run Qb read plays all the freaking time!

    Hey Coach,
    What if your qb isnt much of a power runner but can attack the edge and extremely well. I want to know what do you think of a jet read concept with the backside DE. O- line will run and reach to the front side as they normally would on jet but now the sniffer will "slip" backside to block the alley player if the qb keeps. QB will give if DE stays home and keeps and follows sniffer leading to the edge if DE chases jet. Let me know what you think. Thanks coach.

    Coach could you run this with 11 personnel and use the back in the same way you use the sniffer. I'm coaching junior high offense this year and would like to use this along with qb counter because last year every time we ran jet motion the defense attacked the jet and we need something to adjust and give them another look.

    Coach Mac, Who would be the read vs a 3-5-3? Would you read the end or the outside backer? Also, we are trying to run this with a TE. Would that change the read if we went to the TE side and the end stayed in a 5? Thanks! Great Stuff!

    Hey Coach, I actually run the unbalanced single wing offense but I'm looking at running the power read play with my wingback running the sweep and using my blocking back (sniffer) basically the same way you do and HB blocking the force/contain player. We'll double the DT wherever he is and pull our guard AND Outside tackle around to lead for the pull. It's our basic counter blocking scheme (minus the kick) that we run a LOT so its not a lot of new teaching up front and if I can get my QB to read it I think it could be a great play for us! My question is this, is there anything specifically you are telling your QB on the read? What's he looking at? I know if the DE widens keep, but is there anything more specific or am I overthinking it? We run SO much power both strong and weak side that we get a lot of DE's squeezing. I'm hoping this can be an answer for us next season.

    Coach, roughly how many shuffles would your QBs typically take? 2?

    • @colonelrobertsjr.7882
      @colonelrobertsjr.7882 6 років тому

      Drew Plommer Gus Malzahn usually did one shuffle on direct gives and keeps and he did two for a legitimate read concept but I would recommend two shuffles regardless of the playcall.

    I’ve often seen slot receivers who are poor blockers. That outside linebacker usually has an easy time beating that block and making a play on the sweep. If the sniffer has nothing to do why not have him help the slot guy with the outside linebacker?

    • @CoachMac
      @CoachMac  4 роки тому

      Sniffer takes scrape exchange player. We now use way more RPOS reading the OLB who tries to fit runs
