We always stayed in Tucumcari in the 1960's. It was a perfect one day drive from Los Angeles heading east. Maybe that's why there were so many motels. I even recognized some of them still standing in the first minute of this video. I was little, of course, and Mom always had to "inspect" the room first before she would decide to stay at a motel. After it made inspection and she didn't smell gas (another story) we would go pay for the room!
Hi again ' great vids as usual ' watched most of them from here in North East England 🇬🇧. My hats Off to you for doing what you obviously love to do travelling the states of USA. And why Not' lm aged 75yrs and if was in your shoes l would be there like a shot. Keep up the good videos you certainly make an aged pensioner happy for sure. Thanks from England 🇬🇧
Greetings from the UK. I've just returned from AZ, Flagstaff, New Mex and Co, Route 66 amongst others. Thank you for another wonderful video Russ, very much appreciate all the hard work you put in.
Blue swallow motel is a great stop at night. Tucumcari has dinosaur museum. Used to change my kids in Santa Rosa KOA was nice and blue hole diving and swimming park is neat. I was amazed at bunkers just east of Albuquerque on Southside od forty that stored ammunition for military.
We always stayed in Santa Rosa too.. Tulsa to Las Vegas...I love NM and miss my travel days with my Late Mom and my Late cousin..We had the best road trips... Thank you so much for traveling down RT 66.
Tucumcari was the main inspiration for the movie, "cars", I was just reading. There were others but because of the hotels, restaurants etc,..along the strip, it was the main one. The museum had plenty of 60's cars but only one lone neon sign. I guess they're rare or long gone? For me, as kid going through there in the 60's, the neon was one of the best parts. You could see the glow for miles. Some motels were literally wrapped in neon and there would be some sort of animated signage out front. I loved that stuff. They didn't look as magical after the sun came up but it was was ok because some of them had pools and pools back then were a big deal for kids coming from places where they weren't that common. Another good one here Russ. Perfect timing too. It's as if a switch was just flipped. Temps dropped all across the west last couple days. Cheers. 👍
Thank you, Russ for all your videos, I especially love the history of route 66 and all the cities you visit. Hope you rest well and will see you on your next adventure.❤
I did this trip a few weeks ago from Oklahoma through to Albuquerque then Gallup, NM on The Mother Road. Sure wish I'd paid more attention to these museums. Thanks, Russ!
Thanks for the Summer adventure! It has been great and as you say much more to come. Glad your nearing home and hope you get rested up after your trip.
I'm 73 years old and can remember traveling the old 66 from LA to San Jon where my father had grown up in the depression years. Every summer our family made that trip in our '51 Merc to visit my grandad who was still farming up until the early '60's. By the time I was able to drive (1965) the 40 was mostly complete though construction would put us on the 66 in certain areas. Stuckey's was a favorite stop along the way. Fond memories traveling at night listening to Vin Scully and Jerry Dogget call the Dodger games (KFI was a very powerful radio station at that time and weather permitting we could get well into Arizona before we lost the signal). We had one of those portable swamp coolers (looked like a canister vacuum cleaner) hanging off the passenger side window and my brother and I would continuously bug my mom to cycle the towel that freshened the airflow through the unit. What an adventure travel was back then.
Another outstanding video by you. Thank you so much for taking us with you through the United States. States like Oregon and Wisconsin really jumped into my heart for their beauty. New Mexico and Arizona are nice places too. I love those red rocks you have in the West and Southwest of the United States. :)
Coming back from Japan down thru California going east to Atlanta we arrived to albercerque n.m. at night. 1961 I was ten and we had to go straight down the plateau and we spent the night. I'd say it has changed alot
What am amazing trip and fantastic videos. Russ I am wore out just watching this marathon. You need to take a vacation and rest up. Quartzite will be happy to have its ambassador back for sure.
Just talked to a friend today. He was pulling into LA Posa South. Let the games begin. Tx for everything you do for the RV Community. From one full timer to another. The best road trips are the ones that are "uneventful" Great Scenery , Awesome Locations.
I listen to you every night!Your voice traveling music lull me to sleep when my eyes cant stay open, lol.But your shoes scuffing when you walk on gravel bring me bolt upright(sounds like someone right outside my window)Lol
It's great to get away and even better to get back home again. Thank you so much for taking me along on your summer's travels. I loved following every episode during my winter in New Zealand. Your hard work is greatly appreciated. Least I can do is kick in a little for fuel. Thanks again Russ.
Thanks for the amazing memories you’ve left with all of us watching your videos. Enjoy your well earned break in the comfort of your own home! You certainly deserve it!
Kudos to your UA-cam Channel, Russ! I really enjoy watching your UA-cam Channel. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 I wish you safe travels and I wish you all the best. Talk soon, Alan.
I so enjoy your travels Russ. I would love to travel rt 66 especially before the 100 year anniversary. Any good resources to plan a trip. I for one would love if you did a video about your set up and day to day life...how you cook on the road..shower etc. Thanks Russ! Enjoy a good rest at home now!
Wow, I thought they would always keep the highway open in between Tucumcari and Santa Rosa. It is a joint highway, both hwy 54 and hwy 66 between those towns.
No crowds in NM because everyone is afraid to stop. Albuquerque Rte 66 (Central Ave) is a cesspool of crime. So many neat old towns that are much nicer and safer.
Be safe on the last leg of your summer adventures it's been a blast👍. Hey can you see the comet there in the south west sky at sunset, if so it would be cool to check out👍✌
We lived in Albuquerque for 17 years. Moved to Wyoming in 2021. Please, folks, if you are considering a visit to ABQ, take safety precautions…especially downtown & in the south valley area. It is not safe. Just a friendly heads up. Kind regards to RVer TV and subscribers.
That Mining Museum will be something to see. Different! I have to drive 66 anytime I go anywhere. It's known as CC. They keep it repaved and in very good shape. So I liked Illinois best. I will do off Interstate and back on. I went an seen big rocking chair on west side of Cuba. I like free and easy viewing.
I follow all of your adventures and am getting my itinerary for Route 66 for 2026 together, if you're out there traveling maybe we will run into one another starting in Chicago heading west just haven't set our start date yet.
i wonder you pronunciating con-T-nen-tal = cotton to be always honest ' i dont like museums much , its better to visit churches , pawn shop ,antique shops . but i love to travel like journey never ends . and thats what i love in your videos . and the music that you set in your videos , hits the strings of soul . thanks RverTV
New Mexico is way better than Arizona - much more beautiful and I've spent most of my life and currently live in AZ. Honestly Quartzite is about the ugliest most boring town on the map but I still watch you Russ!
I have a question for you. On your route 66 New Mexico 350 mi road trip your in a museum in New Mexico. While you're wandering around the museum you come to a gas pump behind that gas pump is a white car. On the hood of that white car it says Ford, but the emblem on the front looks like a Chevy emblem, is it a Chevy emblem?

New Mexico is an awesome state to sight see. The problem is the politics are just like San Fran in CA or Austin Texas. It is getting bad with crime as well. Carry a gun and lock your doors!

The best breakfast I ever had was in New Mexico. An omlet with the best chili peppers I ever tasted.

We always have to stop at Clines Corners!
Wow, I thought they would always keep the highway open in between Tucumcari and Santa Rosa. It is a joint highway, both hwy 54 and hwy 66 between those towns.

The one thing I learned about New Mexico this year.., there are not many crowds anywhere!
No crowds in NM because everyone is afraid to stop. Albuquerque Rte 66 (Central Ave) is a cesspool of crime. So many neat old towns that are much nicer and safer.
The Santa rosa kid car is a replica of the California kid car from the movie " the California kid" i think the movie was made in the early 1960s

That’s a great observation! I’ll have to go back and take a closer look at that car.
You didn’t seen it you saw it. It appears you got the Illinois right
Remember that Tucumcari was an Indian princess who threw herself off a cliff after being heartbroken by some Indian guy.
Tocom (male) and Kari (female) are the names of the legendary Native American lovers.
@@ShelleeGraham Thanks for the info. I did not know that. But I was a small kid in 1961 when we heard the story.
