    I had a little extra money left this year and decided to up my game from an old a6000. So I bought a a6600, Sigma 16mm, Sigma 30mm and a Sigma 56mm. Now, instead of enjoying retirement years, I find myself studying 5-6 hours a day learning how to use all this new stuff. Stumbled on and subed your channel. Hoping to learn a lot more here.

    This Sigma 30mm f1.4 was my first non-kit lens when I got my Sony Alpha a6400 last fall (the camera came with the Sony 18-135mm "kit" zoom lens), and I've never been less than blown away. Sigma is doing amazing things with these lenses on a technical level, and I literally have no idea how they manage it at this price. Granted, I’m a beginner and still getting a feel for the basics, but I can attest that my odds of capturing an image I’m actually proud to share goes up dramatically when I use this lens. It really deserves its positive reputation.

    Professional broadcaster here ... Quick tip: Most people are watching by themselves. So you might not wanna say "You guys" "You All" and most importantly, "Hello UA-cam." If you are talking to the company UA-cam, then cool. But if you wanna CONNNECT with your audience, you probably don't wanna call them "UA-cam." Just say "Hi" while you're looking at the camera. You're very natural, your voice is very SMOOTH, content is good. picture is EXCELLENT. Lots of UA-camrs make this mistake because most have never had any training or performance coaching. So, here's your freebie! Keep up the good work - quality is excellent!

    Your production quality is outstanding! Very easy to watch!
    I’m currently torn between this and the Sony 35mm for an a6400 for video use... however I do use a gimbal so I’m leaning towards this as I’ve used the canon variation for years and love it.
    You mentioned using both lenses... what would you opt for now knowing how they both perform?

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  4 роки тому +3

      Steve Welsh honestly I think the deciding factor would be AF. If you need snappy AF I would still go with the Sony version. But if you are ok with a slightly slower AF and want to cut your budget in almost half then go with the sigma.

    • @stevewelsh__
      @stevewelsh__ 4 роки тому +3

      Anson & Co. I ended up going with the sigma! The focus is still crazy fast on the a6400, the fact that It doesn’t have stabilisation doesn’t bother me nearly as much as I thought it would and I saved a few hundred $$. Thanks again!

      Ron G the field of view will be a 45mm equivalent. You are never getting away from crop factor with field of view. It may be optimized for ape-c and so potentially sharper than full frame. But the crop factor will always be something to deal with.

      @koalafudge 4 роки тому

      @@rong7282 Just take whatever focal length you're looking to get, such as 35mm, and divide it by the crop factor of your camera. In your case that would be 35/1.5 and you'll get what you need to aim for with your choice of lens. And of course the reverse is used to find what a lens becomes the equivalent of on a crop sensor. So if you bought a 35mm lens it would be 35*1.5 so it would be the equivalent of using a 52.5mm on a full frame camera.

I have a GH5 and I fell in love with this Sigma 30mm f1.4 lens. but since the GH5 uses contrast focus, which seems to be not compatible with this lens, I would like to ask you for advice: is it really not recommended to use this lens for videos if you intend to use AF only? I think this is a great standard lens. Meaning getting close up details but also other things as well. Good versatile lens.
      So short answer... yes! Hahah

    Since you love manual lenses, which would you recommend to a film maker between the 7 artisans 35mm f1.2 vs this Sigma 30mm f1.4? Thanks!

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  4 роки тому +1

      That’s a tough call. It depends on what you are using it for. If it’s a paid gig I would say sigma, but just for creativity maybe the 7artisans.

      Idk if you need this but if you're looking for a tele video lens I heard many great things about the samyang 85 T1.5, clickless, fully manual and decent sharpness. Costs about the same.

    What’s a good distance recording a talking head video with this lens on a Sony a6000 camera in your opinion?

    • @Ansonandco

      If you buy it for Sony E mount yes, but it will only cover the super 35 portion of the sensor. So it’s not ideal

      They make aps-c versions as well so it should definitely fit the sensor!

      Anson & Co. oh ok cool because I want to get this lens for my BMPCC6K I think it would end up being a 50mm on that camera sense I think it’s close to a super 35 sensor

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  4 роки тому +1

      James Handley so I don’t know if you are going to be able to mount it on the 6k because of the EF mount. The sensor size is fine but you won’t be able to find an EF version or even adapt it because of the flange distance. I would look at maybe the art series 35mm

    I had a whole sigma trio for m43 and 16mm for apsc. Only 56mm 1.4 left. 30mm and 16mm had a terrible purple fringing. Autofocus in 16mm is worse than in 56mm and 30mm, especially in low light. Shooting with 30mm and 16mm in backlight at 1.4 -2.0 is a terrible idea. There are better alternatives for m43. Maybe not for apsc. 16mm with Sony behaved similarly to 16mm with m1mii and g9. For m43 Oly 17mm 1.2 is unbeatable, 17 1.8 is also better, same 25 1.2. All equally sharp at 2.0 but faster and without other problems with CA/LaCA
    Focus by wire vs manual focus clutch in Oly - no comparison, especially for videomakers. FBW is a nightmare. 30mm missing seal on mounting ring. Only 16 and 56 are sealed. Few people notice this. For owners of sealed Olympus and Panasonic cameras, this may be important. If you have m43, save money and buy a used oly 1.2. If you don't care about manual focus then Oly 1.8 or pana 1.7.

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  4 роки тому +1

      Kamil Rakowski honestly I thought all three were not sealed. Good recommendations - THANKS!

    • @kamilrakowski23
      @kamilrakowski23 4 роки тому

      @@Ansonandco They're not 100% sealed, but the mounting bracket is (16 and 56), so you don't have to worry about the sensor. I shot with a 56mm sigma in the snow and some rain without problems. None of these lenses had any dust behind the glass. 56mm is still heavily used.I think they are well made.

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  4 роки тому

      So the lens itself is not a zoom lens. But with the 6400 you can use clear image zoom. If you do a quick search for it it’s pretty easy to accomplish!
