      IMO, completely unique instrument with a very unique sound, cross between guitar and mandolin with a little dulcimer 'chime' and a tiny banjo 'twang' thrown in!
      Much better sounding than a regular banjo!

    I love what you did with the tuner on the 5th string. Is there any drawback to doing it that way? I am building canjos with my 3 year old son and plan to graduate to cbg and banjos soon. We don't have a proper workshop yet but I want to learn and practice before we move to a house and get a proper workshop set up.

    • @morbanjo2503
      @morbanjo2503  7 місяців тому

      Thank you! The main drawback to using a guitar tuner for the 5th string is the need to drill a new hole in the shaft since the existing hole is too close to the tip. The new hole needs to be closer to the gears to line up properly. The advantage is not having to purchase a separate 5th string tuner.

      I checked out your instruments...wow! We must be distant cousins! On your solid top banjo. I'm still waiting on parts for mine, so I'm going to make a solid top in the meantime. @@pwrouzaud Thanks Peter. I've never tried laminate before. Certainly worth experimenting with. From my work in a cabinet shop I've used laminate for other things and I suspect it would require some reinforcement to take the string pressure. Yeah, I like this 5th string design. If yours was posted on utube I may have stolen it from you! If so, thanks! I've also used a tunneled 5th string design so the string goes on up to the heads. I like that a lot too.

      @@theslowgrassrollers6821 I would have used some thin spruce if I'd had it but the baltic birch was on hand and it worked pretty well.

      The Irish tune "The Boys of Bluehill" is usually cited as the basis for Waynesboro.
