There are always flag down cabs dude literally just ask them if they're free not cost free but if they can take customers and surely you'll get a cab just like in the states key point in this is you'll have to get to the center or bus station or generally a taxi parking lot or row. Otherwise calling a cab is genuinely the next best thing also meters don't do much if you're a tourist take into account that the price went up 100 percent since 2014 talking bout 200 denars in Macedonia for a 14 km ride take into account its gonn be at least double. Plus the tourist tax on top you are looking with a 10 buck cab fare minimum.
Sorry guys but as an American who has traveled all over Macedonia, I do disagree with you. First of all if you are traveling try to learn how to pronounce the places you visit! You missed the south eastern region of Macedonia where all the vineyards are. So much history even across the border in Greece . You can stay in Macedonia and not pay a fortune to spend the day in Halkidiki where the beaches are plentiful and Pella the birthplace of Alexander the Great. There are some really great rock formations and hiking trails all over Macedonia. We never use a taxi there! Yes people do smoke but they do all over Eastern Europe and honestly you both sound like the typical spoiled North Americans. We were stranded in Skopje with friends and a lady working at the hotel offered to teach us Macedonian cooking lessons at their home…what a treat. I am glad to hear that you experienced the hearts of the people there. They are welcoming, giving and eager to share all they have and their lives with you. They will always have time to get a coffee with you. So much to see…let’s not even mention the Galicnik wedding, the beautiful and very affordable Berovo, and a stay at one of the peaceful monasteries. During the Covid shutdown we drove all over the country and rarely encountered anyone else. You barely scratched the surface!

And pirava it’s where I grew up until I turn four and moved to Germany but there were so many nice people literally everyone knew us and we knew them we were all like family That’s why I love it so much and I wanna go live there again but my family doesn’t want to go, which is really sad.😢😢
Eastern Europe is by far so much more rewarding as a travel experience. As an American that has lived in Bulgaria it's amazing how affordable everything is. So much history and culture! I will be traveling back to Bulgaria this December, traveling around the country as well as hopping down to Istanbul, Serbia, and North Macedonia! Should be fun! I love Eastern Europe. Knowing Bulgarian makes things easier for me as well.
Smoking is rampant in the Balkans. I hate it too. I was in Pirin Bulgaria which is actually another part of what was once a bigger Macedonia. Anyway, I had a heart attack a few weeks before my visit and even though everyone knew this, they would smoke at the table with me and all smoked but me. They just don’t comprehend …Totally rude and disrespectful and disgusting and unhealthy especially for me but they had no idea. For that reason I hesitate to go back even though most of my family live there. From young teens to the very old, most everyone smokes.
Your on a budget? Really. If you rented a car it would have cost less than USD20.00 per day. I am happy to see that you spoke about many nice things in Macedonia. Why is smoking a CON Macedonia is NOT in the EU. There is loads to do. You needed to rent a car and travel around. There are many Taxi stops. There are plenty of taxi apps, which we can find online, if you bothered to look.

The only thing i like about your videos as that you got the "people" part right. The people "balkanian" particularly macedinians are known to be peacefull and down to earth. There is a reason it was the only balkan country to avoid war after yugoslavia broke up. even the idiot shiptars whio make up to 25% of the population are good down to earth citizens with a chip on their shoulders and hate for slavs but are good people.
i live in Bitola..its against the law to smoke inside for more than 10 years now.. they were talking about the outside tables :) no one sits inside couse we all smoke ..so they would be alone if they went inside :)

The only thing i like about your videos as that you got the "people" part right. The people "balkanian" particularly macedinians are known to be peacefull and down to earth. There is a reason it was the only balkan country to avoid war after yugoslavia broke up. even the idiot shiptars whio make up to 25% of the population are good down to earth citizens with a chip on their shoulders and hate for slavs but are good people.
