    Being a very elderly fisherman the baits of my time are no longer seen anywhere. At one time this particular lure was popular with fishermen all over the country.This bait was a hand-carved wooden lure at the start of its 1938 production. From 1938 to 1940 this lure was hand carved and in the shape of a banana. The demand for this bait in 1940 overrode the hand carved operation.Machinery started being used after 1940 to make this outstanding bait. It was called the Kautsky "Lazy Ike". It came in a variety of sizes and color patterns and as time rolled on this lure became one of the "best ever" in those years of 1940-1980 when production ceased. I fished the medium size Ike #3 in a frog or perch pattern and the larger #4 Ike in frog or black scale patterns. The Lazy Ike, in the sizes and color patterns mentioned, caught bass here in mid-west Georgia River Bend (Chattahoochee River) and Lake Eufala areas. Any ponds, lakes, or deep creeks were good areas to fish this bait. I used a worn-out frog pattern Lazy Ike in the #4 size (large) in a creek in 1960 and had a best ever time fishing from the bank. When fishing from the boat in the river, in fall, I would throw to the bank, preferably under cover of branches, where an old big mouth bass might lay up to ambushes meal. I believe the Lazy Ike was so popular with fishermen in the 60's and 70's, because of its fish-catching qualities. It was never going to be a favorite in a bass tournament. Its slow, side-to-side wobble, using a slow retrieve, was asking too much out of a bass or pike not to strike. This slow fishing style of the Ike would eat up the clock for a tournament fisherman. Those guys needed fast-moving baits that could go deep without being weighed down with lead sinkers. Spinnerbaits and such was those guys main weapon. I just enjoyed watching that Ike wobble back and forth as I retrieved it in. Using a bait caster, an Ambassador 5000, semi-stiff rod, and 10lb test line that helped me place my bait in those honey-holes, where a big mouth was laying up for the ambush. Try the Ike out and enjoy some fishing pleasures from the past. They still catch fish!

      @bigmouthbrice  Рік тому +1

      Yeah it's been a crazy hot year for me too. They'll only touch topwater here about an hour before dark or a couple hours after daylight. I started fishing at 6:15 or so and didn't get a bite til about an hour later in this one
