Loving the videos of your travels Ian. I know so little about NZ that this is an education for me. I feel like I am travelling with a friend. Very cool and definitely a highlight of UA-cam. Hugely appreciated work.
Your videos from down under brighten the days of our cold, wet November days back here in the UK. Keep up the good work, but take time to enjoy yourself.
Hi Ian, you now learn a lot about yourself during this trip. You know what is being said: it is not about the destination, it is about the journey you make. And on the way you surprise us with great videos.
Oh no - - mosquitos! We have lots of those in the Fens. Get bitten so bad I daren't sit out summer evenings. The traveling alone/loneliness factor has occurred to me in many of your vidoes because it is so lovely to share these incredible experiences and views, but then you are taking so many of us along, talking as if we were there and generally sharing with us ALL bless you. Just be happy and know we love what you are doing. Thanks Ian!
We used air bnb with the family in Sydney in 2012 as we simply could not afford hotels for four. It was lovely but as Ian says you just have to do the best research you can and look at the feedback. This is a two way thing and I just respectfully ask that people behave and leave their air bnb tidy. Some people don't. Ian, just take your "down time" as you need it. It's not time wasted, and I'm loving the videos .
Every day I look forward to your videos, definitely cheers me up when I have a gloomy day. I agree with that you said about sometimes having to do nothing and get rest in order to function.
Its great to see how it is and not all fancied up 👍👍 i like how you leave the mistakes in and other content not car related. Brings great context . 🙃🙂🙃🙂
For many of your subscribers you are living the dream Mr HubNut, providing us with hugely entertaining and much appreciated insights into a world far less miserable than here. Please keep it up, and goodonya!
I much prefer the B&B way of doing things too, far more relaxing and personal and you're not just a number to the owner. Good to see you're taking time out for yourself on this trip of a life time.
B&B aren't that common in NZ. Motels are by far the most common, and NZ style motels are quite a bit different from motels in most parts of the world. Airbnb is probably #2 in NZ these days in terms of numbers available. Genuine hotels aren't really very common outside the cities, although pub hotels still exist in the oddest of places.
@@iatsd The UK has a lot of B&B's, anywhere that's a tourist spot has them. If I was lucky enough to come to NZ then Motels and Airbnb would be for me as I'm not a fan of cities and try to avoid them as much as I can....too claustrophobic feeling for me.
Love these videos Ian, they truly are a fantastic source of inspiration. As someone pointed out in the comments, it does feel like we, the viewers, are travelling with a friend, and that is not something you find too often on UA-cam. Fantastic work!
We turned up at a place that was filthy and every scrap of furniture looked like it had been rescued from the local bonfire. Cue a few photos and a fast retreat. It got sorted but the owners tried to justify it (several times, we weren't the only ones complaining) as you say you learn where to stay away from but can still get caught out. Thanks for the vid, it's these that add the extra colour 😀
the classic car show was on at the NEC his weekend and it just wont be the same not having a HubNut video to watch with lan getting all excited about pantograph wipers, headlight wipers, and all the weird and wonderful things that have found their way onto the Citroen stand, but l am still enjoying the travel Vlogs
Excellent videos Ian - much enjoying your channel. And commentary. Airbnb is also good - if the odd one is a bit iffy, then move on - others are great and you meet all sorts of people - folk in NZ are friendly too.
Thanks for taking us on this epic tour. I think you are doing a great job showing how it really is, not some polished 'only the fun stuff' video. As said here often, that is the appeal of your channel. As always looking forward to your new installments!
My mate is going to NZ the end of this month, he is using your videos as a guide for when he gets over there! Hubnut - not just a channel about crap cars.
The days here are cold and wet back in blighty mate, enjoy your adventure we all feel down sometimes but that's life mate, you have a lot of friends following you on youtube, all the Best : )
Very much enjoying your daily videos. When you described your next few months of touring planned the other day I was very jealous. Days are short and cold back here in Blighty. Enjoy the long days and warm temps down under and all the friendly faces you keep meeting up with. Cheers
Hats off to you Ian, showing me life in general and cars in particular in a country on the other end of the world while also sharing your personal insights. I think the loneliness would kill me when I was to go one trips like these alone. Take care.
No need to worry about loneliness old boy, there are plenty of us back up here in UK loving your videos. My brother lives in North Island so Im finding it great watchin your travels. Also seeing all the vehicles that are about as my bro shipped his Mondeo ST200 out there when he moved and he hasnt seen another there since. Keep it up.
Loving your NZ videos Ian. I visited in 2017 but did everything south of Auckland, it feels that your filling my empty hole of everything I missed. You're in for some real treats as you travel south, all of its amazing.
Loving this series, I'm a Kiwi that hasn't spent bigger all time up in the North Island, Mainlander through and through. You are a great tour guide, and I'm going to have to convince the wife to do a roadie, up that way.
Yes, travel can be lonely and daunting to leave familiar places behind again and again. But then the next day something amazing happens and you never would have wanted it any other way. It always hits me on a rest or travel day. But I've never thought afterwards I'd rather have stayed at home.
Great video and comments Ian. I'm on a 3-week holiday in Japan, but two weeks in and I've had pneumonia virtually the whole time- so have been in bed watching lots of Hub-Nut videos. Keeps me going! Cheers. Tim
Way back in the mid 80's doing the Pennine Way doing pubs and farmhouses for B&B we stayed at a farm that was being refurbished. Nice large communal sunken bath with live bubbles was a highlight. Roughing it was never so overstated. Another stopover while doing the Calderdale Way, the stopover at Shelf / Stone Chair was a choice of complete houses, the pub owner owning most of the street. Hotels don't cut it for me either ... with such a choice of "off the beaten track" stopovers and B&B's to discover, it puts money in the pockets of the individual rather than the large multi-nationals.
Ian , being grumpy at times is quite normal and it’s good that you are talking about it , we are interested and care how you are and how you feel . When you need a break , take one .🙂
Keep up the great work dude - you do great videos: interesting car stuff from a car-nut, interesting content and commentary about things you see and do - it's all really good and entertaining. You're doing a great job as you are. Don't change. But don't knacker yourself though!

As long as you have a cup of tea all is well. Nice to get an insight as to how your doing Ian p.s your not alone were all coming along with you. Look after yourself buddy Rob
I always look forward to your videos coming online Ian. Always make me feel better when I’m feeling a bit grumpy. Really enjoying watching your travels through ANZAC. It’s a county I’ve always wanted to visit and now I want to go even more. Save travels and take a break from filming when you can. We don’t need a video every day.
ALL of your videos are very much appreciated Mr HubNut, even the 'grumpy' ones. (I don't think you're ever grumpy!) Hope you enjoyed that tea before it was too stewed.
We all have trouble controlling our gimbals now and then! Your videos are fascinating, as always, Ian. The grumpiness really doesn't show as much as you might think. And the awesome scenery and Kiwi hospitality must really help you through the difficult days. I have the wanderlust too, and always intended to visit The Land Of The Long White Cloud sometime. I did get to Sydney (which triggered the desire), and couldn't make the last hop, but that's 1200 miles across the Tasman Sea from you. Health precludes journeys like that now, so your trek is a very helpful substitute! Thank-you.
Dont worry Ian, we all get a bit fed up sometimes, its perfectly normal, and like you said, the best thing to do is chill out for a day or two....you're a great guy and your excellent videos always cheer me up! one thing i do miss, is you racing round in TWC, lol, so ive been watching the old videos of that...anyway, keep up the good work, and enjoy yourself, but most importantly, take care.
Airbnb is the greatest invention of all time (in the economically sensible modern travel sector). I had a holiday on the Costa Del Sol near Gibraltar (unfashionable end) a few years ago. Through Airbnb, I got a family apartment for two weeks for a couple of hundred quid that turned out to be a palace with two private swimming pools (?), a garage, a golf course and the kindest owner you could ever hope for. Smashing. But it was bloody hot.
Your only human Ian and like everyone else you have off days too. The vlogs of New Zealand have been great to watch and look forward to seeing more. Something that might cheer you up is that the weather here in Wales has been cold miserable and Snowing. Have yourself a great time and All the very best 👍👍
Who's disliking his videos right now? There is nothing to dislike about this video. The guys on holiday and sharing his time with us! Appreciate his content or just unsubscribe.
Definitely an advantage of doing your own thing in your own time is you can stop and take those breaks when you're feeling run down. Tea also helps (as I'm sure you're aware).
Another interesting video hubnut and many people will appreciate knowing more about Airbnb, you have a dry sarcastic sense of humour which I totally get haha. Yeah I used to travel solo a lot in past and it can be a little lonely but you get Pros and Cons and bad days just mean that tomorrow will be a good day ? and the good out weighs the bad every time. Keep up the good work , am loving seeing New Zealand 👍.
You being you makes the videos Ian. Don't worry about your mood coming through onto the camera, it's real and it's showing us all the true experience of your trip. Don't edit it out and just show us the picture postcard perfect version. The videos so far are STUNNING, couldn't ask for better 👍
I enjoy your videos very much, I will never see the places you travel to, and I have never seen most of the cars you know so well. Cars and roads are much different here in the USA but our taste is similar. Thank you!
We recently did a 2 week tour of Ireland also only staying in AirBNBs - i personally think some of the places we stayed at made the holiday as its great to 'live like a local' as opposes to 'stay in a hotel like a tourist'
Ian, this is a great series of videos and they are all very varied. Some brilliant museums, scenery, road tests and your commentary is always a delight to listen to. The BX was excellent, as was the BMW; I want one of each now!
Thank you Ian sir for the fantastic videos. You are giving us a great tour of new zealand. Fab cars and cats. Nice also to see the legend George the other day. Keep up the goid work but give time for yourself.
The ONLY clips on UA-cam that I ever give a thumbs-up to, before watching (simply so that I don't forget to do so afterwards). A nice overview of AirBnB......so much better than many overpriced, sterile hotel chains. Good to see that you are enjoying your Australasian adventure; and recognising that you need a work/life balance. 👍
Haha a one take rant!! You are funny Ian lol! And I get you about the changes in mood.....Travelling is hard, and being in a new place is diffucult too.......I've been in Argentina for nearly 2 years, but still have hard days, it's inevitable.....Missing family and things makes it tricky at times! Great videos!
It looks so glorious and sunny ☀️ ... here in the East Midlands uk it’s been days and days of heavy rain 🌧 and some flooding, enjoy, it’s sure great watching your journey so far.
Thanks for the video! Interesting to have these almost "behind the scenes" vlogs between the more usual hubnut content. Hopefully you can use them to give yourself a "weekend" off every now and again!
My French niece is currently in NZ, so thanks so much for sharing your travels. I get to see what NZ is really like! As for occasionally feeling down, you are right. Best to ride it out. Better times ahead! Your videos cheer me up anyway.
Excellent accommodation review Simon Calder! If I ever find myself in that vercinity, I shall remember this vlog Simon. I thank you! Thanks for sharing, most enjoyable.
Hi Ian I have a good friend who lives in Dunedin can't wait for your trip to the South islands. Hope you are calling there I may even see him walking in the streets lol it will be good to see the place on screen. Stay well. Tom
I've always wondered what it is like to do AirBNB although i've not done too many road trips myself (except through work). When I was younger I used to do a bit of hitch-hiking and that was interesting at times
I adore AirBNB. Met some amazing people (and cats!) through it, and I guess if it wasn't for AirBNB I wouldn't have met the Wobbler back in Wales either. So it's a win in my book. Take your time to read reviews, it's fun to do anyway, and see how much care is put in the description of the room/house offered. It's easy to pick the good ones. You may still run into some quirky people, but that's only interesting. At least you'll be taken care of properly :).
Your only human Ian and travels on your own will from time to time take its tole . We all look forward to your latest videos but I and hopefully all your followers understand that your on holiday and need time to enjoy it . I’m picking up a very nice 2004 Volvo v40 today your welcome to review it when your back in the UK. It will be complete with hubnut sticker by early next week
Don't feel down buddy. You are bringing us all joy and beautiful scenery. Here in County Derry tomorrow we are expecting - 3 Celsius and patchy fog, as well as mostly darkness. The New Zealand Tourist Board should be paying for all your fuel and Air B&Bs cos you are selling their wonderful country so skillfully. Go Ian, an inspiration to us all. You do realise, of course, that having bought a lovely Ford Falcon Fairmont, you shouldn't finish your trip without representing the Holden Commodore fans down under as well. Well done this far. Every video is fabulous . If you were in a bad mood at anytime then you covered it up rather well. Hubnut Rules.
I was curious about how the AirBnB worked & how to select the better places so thank you for great video explaining how to. I have enjoyed all your NZ videos so far. Looking forward to the continuing adventures of Hubnut.
Nice upload Ian thanks for the time taken in informing us on your walk about down under. lovely country new Zealand and to top it off they drive on the correct side of the road. That b and b looks quite roomy lovely view from the window so enjoy the trip. O it's snowing in welsh wales and it's parky. ✌ peace
£25 a night is really good mate, it's getting chilly in the UK now....glad I have a Hubnut Hoddie!....I've never been able to face breakfast (night owl) so this looks good to me mate! Really enjoying your company and your lovely trip. Cheers mate.x
And yes....sometimes you feel really tired and gloomy, and a bit alone, the very best medicine is just to do absolutely nothing, smack yourself on the bottom with a Woman's Weekly and read your comment's section ! Because we all love your vids. I had a Scotch egg today and it was really nice....little things mate, little things. x
As someone who has travelled those swings of mood are standard. As enjoyable as travelling can be it bombards the senses with new stuff constantly and this can be draining. Even the greatest adventure can leave you mentally and physically tired. It's understandable. Look after yourself.
Really love this content. Very interesting to see a bit more behind the scenes! Thank you for sharing! You may be traveling alone but we are all with you in spirit and at the end of the internet!
Thank you for illuminating the AirBNB experience. It has allayed my fears about it. They have made a nice job of the room there. Also, I liked to hear of your experience of solo travel and I feel it must tiring to be a stranger in a strange land. Actually, my whole life has been like that :-) In an abstract way, many of us are travelling with you and you allow us to share your experiences. I feel a bit awful for saying negative things about the Fairmont. I was trying to flesh out the history which is too vast for a UA-cam comment. Hope everything is going well. Cheers.
One hotel I would highly recommend is the Waitomo Caves Hotel, lovely staff and the faded elegance of the place is really charming. The Queen and Prince Phillip stayed there once, so if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for HubNut. Plus, there weren't many places to stay around there (in 2015) and the caves themselves are well worth a visit. Happy travels!
We can occasionally forget there's the huge time difference between the countries as we are so used to things seemingly happening in our own time zone instantly. It's a bit like being able to buy seasonal fruit and veg all year round. You feel a bit 'lost' when that tropical fruit you wanted isn't in stock in December when the logistics of getting it there are quite complex. Your videos take time to upload, edit and send. If your signal is weak or non existent it becomes a supply chain issue! I bet the internet there is still far superior to the UK though! Keep up the good work Ian! That's the one thing with self employment. You stop working and the money stops coming in, but everyone needs time off!
I used to feel down when I was on the road with the lorries. So the lonely grumps are not unusual. Pace yourself and try to make the time to do something completely different.
I've only discovered your a/c since you started your trip here in NZ but have been enjoying watching your bit-by-bit discovery of our country. The last Museum video was really wonderful, and the earlier one at Smale's Farm was just odd, because it is very close to where I live and work and I hadn't even realised it was a thing. More importantly, thanks for having the guts to talk a little about the emotional side of travelling alone - I did a little bit of that when I first went to the UK years ago so can put myself in your shoes a bit. My first Xmas in the UK was hard because I had only been in the country for a couple of weeks. I hope you have some plans set up for that, rather than just winging it - it *REALLY* does make a difference. Best of luck to you for your time here.
Great Videos Ian, liked the museum, were the helpful man started all the cars. I've never heard old cars like that running before, and was well impressed with how they sounded. So quiet and just as good as modern cars. I also like the way your videos are not just about modern and expensive cars and if you look around you can have just as much fun in a car for a grand or a few hundred quid. There inspiring and always positive, even if they don't have a roof lining ;-)
I must admit then you first mentioned the New Zealand trip, I was a bit skeptical obviously it wasnt the usual hubnut content. However I am really enjoying your videos. It started being less about the cars and more about the host, although I think that balances right now. Glad you are having a great trip.

The videos are brilliant Ian....Keep up the excellent work NZ looks a great laid back place with some wild cars, Keep em coming...Safe travels.
Its all very worthwhile and appreciated Ian
I'm loving your vids. So much going on Ian. Look after yourself my friend. Love seeing what George is upto.
Great videos Ian - really good commentary too - keep up the good work. Many thanks.
Fantastic insight into travelling alone on a long trip!
Stay well. Tom
Very interesting from start to end. Thanks from near Aberystwyth.
✌ peace
I'm loving the New Zealand content as I do with all HubNut videos!
Hope you and the Ford are well. 👍👍
I had a Scotch egg today and it was really nice....little things mate, little things. x
Thanks for telling us how airbnb work , tbh I wasn't sure . enjoy your time there , loving the vids
As someone who has travelled those swings of mood are standard. As enjoyable as travelling can be it bombards the senses with new stuff constantly and this can be draining. Even the greatest adventure can leave you mentally and physically tired. It's understandable. Look after yourself.
Thanks very much for another video. Really enjoying all of them - NZ looks beautiful!
Drove through their last night, but AirBNB won again. Had gorgeous views and some friendly chickens...
Really enjoying the videos of your travels, I thought with the NZ heat we would have seen a haircut by now! Keep up the good work.
Wait for the next video... ;)
Evening Ian - I hope you are enjoying yourself. CHEERS from AUSTRALIA.
I must admit then you first mentioned the New Zealand trip, I was a bit skeptical obviously it wasnt the usual hubnut content. However I am really enjoying your videos. It started being less about the cars and more about the host, although I think that balances right now. Glad you are having a great trip.
Don't worry about the mugs and other merch. George is on it.
What no knee alert ! Shocking :)
Don't forget the Jesus creepers lol
Loving your real life travelogues, but mind, enjoy yourself as well and look after yourself. Thank you.
