- It's become the so-called Skid Row for RV homelessness in L.A. County. Now some of the unhoused living in the area were moved to temporary shelter, and the RVs were towed away. Full story: abc7.com/rvs-l...
I moved into an RV years before Corona. Disabled and unable to work, it was my only option. My RV is clean in and out, always registered and insured, and fully operational. I barely drink and don't do any drugs, not even weed. We're not all junkies. I also never park near these places around other RVs. It makes you guilty by association.

That’s exactly what they did. They made mini hiking tools and a heavy blanket and tow of them climbed their way down and up and down mountains for days. They all survived from eating human flesh too.
How badly does one want to live? How badly does one want to sleep in a nice bed. It takes hard work and saving and even cooperating and meeting others who want the same.
Many of us work real hard and long and save for many rainy days because we never want to end up like them. We get along with family members and we retain friendships.

My neighbor who was addicted to drugs was raging 24/7 yelling, slamming, breaking, punching property. He even crashed his car. It went on for 5 months until the Sheriff's department came to evict him. Unless people like him go through drug rehab what good is housing?

Temporary shelter is one thing permanent housing is another... and if they don't they'll just move back in later in tents or cars... This issue did NOT suddenly appear. Voters could have stopped the growing problems through various “solutions” they are now just beginning to implement. So it took a news broadcast to show the truth before ANY elected official took this issue seriously enough to implement any solution or prevention measures.

Man, Officer Suarez is one of the most understanding and compassionate cops I've ever heard speak about homeless people's plight, but also understands that people can't live the way they've been living on that street in E. Gardena. Like he said, however, some of them who moved their RVs are resistant to change, but I'm glad to see that many of them are looking forward to a better housing solution by working with the gov't.
I totally get it. I've heard/read about how terrible shelters are, and I don't know why nobody has figured out a way to improve them so that more homeless folks would feel comfortable and safe in them and have some semblance of privacy - maybe they have and I am just ignorant about it.
I also understand your predicament as a pet owner. I believe at least some hotels that have been repurposed as housing for homeless individuals allow pets, and although small in size, maybe tiny homes may accommodate a pet, too?
There are a couple of practical concerns I have about developing permanent or semi-permanent housing for homeless individuals.
1) Will/can a homeless individual accept a more permanent housing situation if it is located further away from a job that they have?
I think about possible/likely(?) transportation challenges. Although buses travel all over and relatively cheap to use, they also take more time to arrive at a destination.
2) Will a homeless individual accept a more permanent housing situation if it is not located in their desired/preferred area? EX: If a homeless person becomes used to living at/near Venice Beach, would they accept the housing accommodation near downtown L.A.? I've heard some homeless folks say that they would not accept housing if it moved them away from their homeless community. That's sounds stupid to some of us, and makes perfect sense to others.
I've thought WTF would I do for housing if I became homeless and lacked access to family help? Since I own a car, I would likely live in my car at Safe Parking L.A. and do what many homeless individuals do, which is to purchase a gym membership where I could exercise and bathe, shave, maybe wash my clothes while showering and hang dry back at Safe Parking L.A. I'm not sure, however, where I could keep a pet during the day while I am at work. Maybe pay a fellow Safe Park L.A. resident a few bucks a day to watch my pet? But, I believe that during the day, the parking lot

I find cheap rooms all the time in LA.
Try mid city, Culver City, NoHo, Crenshaw, even Hollywood has some decent cheap rooms.
Normally, if you aren't earning at least $1000 a week in LA, you are gonna struggle. Its very normal for 4 to 5 people to share a two bedroom two bath apartment.

You can ind a room for $500 a week but certainly not $500 a month not now.
There is a nice hotel near Pico and La Cienega that is $700 a month, you have to share a bathroom but the rooms are clean and safe. A lot of people are renting rooms in their homes for about $600 a month minium..
I suggest working for a company like Starbucks or Amazon, they help their employees find housing, they also pay for their employees to ride 'Lyft' into and from work. Lots of benefits too.. Starbucks even feeds its employees for free (as many drinks as you want and a meal a day)..
Now that the Pandemic is over, the city of LA and the county have job offers on the table and the city will help with finding an apartment.. Try working at a city run recreational center, the pay is $26 dollars an hour to start.

What majority of these people need is tough love and real resources to really wanna kick their addictions and become a positive contribution to society and this country’s work force.
The homeless problem is a drug problem. Homeless "advocates" actually are addiction enablers who keep the cycle going to ensure their own jobs. Tough love is the only thing that works. "Treatment" is a lie, with only a 3% recovery rate. I know. I'm an alcoholic and addict who has been clean for over thirty years. Jail is what motivated me to sober up.

News said that some were paying rent.
the report mentioned they are still looking for the person who they were renting the RV's from. So another case of a RV slumlord, reminiscent of the old bat who was busted a few weeks ago with 20+ RV's next to her house, she was charging up to 1k a month per PERSON.

The issue is that most of these people want to live like this and turn down any help offered unless it’s a free handout of cash. I’ve offered food to some and they turn you down and tell you they want money. This is so they can buy alcohol or drugs. Anyplace you drive around California you’ll see this, large city’s to small towns. The state chose to shutdown most mental health facilities and turn these folks out into the streets. Then you have the drug addicts that live like this because if they go to a shelter they are expected to follow the rules, and they don’t want to follow the rules, especially the stay sober rule. Most people in California have very little compassion for the homeless due to this.
if you offered these people a safe, clean place to go but they had to follow rules like anyone living in an apartment complex or group home, many, and I'm not exaggerating, MANY would turn it down. They like being able to do whatever they want, wherever they want, whenever they want. They like the fact they can shoplift with impunity, get free meals daily, do drugs wherever and whenever, pee and defecate whenever, and the city lets them.
I'm guessing that the homeless in the US have an entirely different culture and attitude. Most of the homeless I've encountered feel that they are victims and that the non-homeless are privileged and therefore, should "give back" to the "community".
The "Vanloards?" I heard about one case in Portland where there was a shot caller and his gang who collected "rent" from people in a homeless encampment. The people could have kicked their asses, or just killed the boss, but they wouldn't because this gang controlled the dope supply there. Probably the same situation here.

I rather Live in a RV than a Group Home I have a disability and the rent they ask all special needs that live in a Group Home in California you can Buy your own House instead of living with them because they steal your money and rip you off and they would hurt you or kill you my friend live in a Group Home and there son was killed by the staff and they sued and also they tell you are force to go to a day program and can't do what you want to do I left the group home because they are asking over a billion dollars to live in the Group Homes and they are not worth it and the Government is not doing anything to Help

I have zero sympathy for homeless. I live in Bakersfield and geez fck they are destroying every place they camp out. City cleans it up and within a week these places are destroyed once again.

Wow. Free housing. And I worked 50-60 hours per week most of my life. The problem is simple: One single RV parks more than the legal 48 hours, ticket, tow, impound. Expired tags, ticket, tow, impound. Every single time. LA let the problem grow when it got past two RV's.

February of last year I was evicted by court order. I had a commission sales job and I wasn't making any sales after I fell into a deep depression because my son and girlfriend were killed by a drunk driver. A year and a half later I still cannot find any type of housing or shelter. The homeless shelters only help people who use drugs or drink alcohol. Those are things I shall not take part in. The worst part is businesses will not hire homeless people. However, everyone is "hiring." Even though I have experience in banking, accounting, management and retail companies won't hire me because they think I use drugs because I'm homeless. Last year I was jumped and when I arrived at the hospital nurses also assume I was using drugs. They didn't ask, just assumed. It's not like I have a support system because I was a foster kid. Somehow I will figure this all out of my own like I have with everything else in life.
Homelessness is a crime against those who are homeless, and kicking them out to the adjacent city doesn’t make it less of a crime 🤷🏻♀️

This homeless problem is a direct result of the high inflation we have had over the last 2 1/2 years. I am retired and living in a modest house and my electric and water bill has doubled in that time. My home insurance has also doubled in the same period. Now I hear that my taxes are taking a huge jump this year. This inflation is hurting everyone except for the politicians and ultra wealthy.
BULLCRAP! Wake up to reality. I live in a city of 3 million. We have 5000 to 8000 bums, many from outside the area. The numbers don't support your theory. It's just a small number of folks, who will tell you straight up, they want to be high and left alone. Which is fine, just do it somewhere else.

There should be rehabilitation camps (rehousing complexes) created to house, feed and retrain and reorient the homeless a triage letter number system should be given based on need. There are legal sites like KOA campgrounds. Thousands of people love the RV life living in RV units and obeying the laws. It costs almost as much of not more to live in a legal RV site than a cheap motel.

@@Network126 The cost of living is too high and most people are 1 paycheck away from being homeless as it is. Lose your job and you're on the street. Not everyone who is homeless is a drug addict.

The city should accomodate vehicle encampments in prescribed areas of the city. Not in front of businesses, residential streets or schools but in areas that permit access to utilities, transportation services, etc.
How much do think that greed is causing our taxes to be spent over this?

After year's of passively creating this festering problem.
They had cleaned Redondo a few months ago and a week after it was full of RVs again.
It's become a huge problem in LA that someone is buying broken RVs, getting them moved to a street, and renting them out to homeless. They wouldn't be able to move the vehicle if they wanted too.
O.C.P rehousing unit is there to help.

Think about that, it is not as equitable and soft as it fleetingly sounds.
Only "Some" are given temporary housing while "ALL" their homes were removed. = Some is not the same as ALL
Further the housing is "temporary" while the removals of RV's are "Permanent" = Temporary is not the same as Permanent
Digging further "Temporary" can have any meaning from 1 month or 1 week or 1 day = Temporary has no defined meaning
Conclusion = The homeless in the RV got short changed "permanently" and the government knowingly did it.
These people will ALL be living directly exposed to the elements.
In the 30s they had " hovervilles". And for the most part they were allowed to live instead of being rousted all the time.
Finally a solution and not just kicking them down the road.
Politicians do nothing about a problem until it becomes a crisis.

3 years to fix it? Could have been fixed when the first RV showed up. Zero tolerance period.
We should all line up to get in that van and be given free permanent housing.
Well this kind of blows a hole in the “they have no place to go so we should feel compassion for them” argument. Clearly there is room at the inn, some people just don’t want it. We can either confront this problem and fix it, like you see here, or we can put our head in the sand and pretend that this is OK.
Nothing will change until you start tackling mental illness. There’s often (not always) a connection between homelessness and some level of mental illness.
Feel so awful for those pets left behind. Are they going to shelters or rescues??
