Slight Correction in the Video I messed up the upgrade on the Avenger Guard and want to post the corrected stats. The mistake I made was assuming The Avenger guard was a Nightmare difficulty item, it is not. It is actually a Normal Difficulty item and requires Shael + Tal + P diamond to upgrade to Nightmare. So Avenger Guard Stats are 175 Defense 65 Strength, lvl 47 Requirement, Which upgrade to... Slayer Guard 222 Defense, 118 Strength, Lvl 52 Requirement Which Upgrades to... the amount of bonuses that come from IK is huge compared to some of the other sets. I feel like more sets in D2 could've/should've been more comparable to this.
It's because the set covers every item slot except the rings and amulet, so you basically have 0 flexibility with your item choices. Even the weapon is a 2-hander. They just had to make it so well-rounded to be a usable set.
I feel that it's the opposite, because it takes 7 spaces verses the next closest is "M'avina's Embrace" which takes 6. The I.K. set only allows the player to build around the Ogre Maul. Disables: frenzy and throw options. Also makes the mastery tree pointless for weapons. There shouldn't be a weapon. The Paladin set takes 4 spaces and every piece has 3 or more sockets except the helmet which is 2. All elite comparable full sets should include "Cannot Be Frozen" also.
Runewords should be for niche build that need something different, the elite sets for each class should be hard to beat, _but beatable_ with rares or maybe max rolled uniques.
People tend to uderestimate this set. It maybe not in par with best items in the game but there are several pros: - Aura looks cool. - Maxed out resistances, 75 in all even on Hell. You can get rid of the stashload of Charms, hoarding every single point of resistance you can find to survive in Hell. With you inventory empty, you can focus more on looting stuff and making gold for ie. gambling. You can focus Rings and Amulet for more usefull stuff like + to skills, LifeSteal or increase damage, rather than more resists. Couple od lvl 10 rings with +6% LS each will make you invincible. - Sockets available to further increase Attack speed, MF, LifeSteal...whatever you need. Or you can Cham the Armor to get the Cannot be frozen, which is probably the only thing missing in this set, until you get that Ravenfrost ring. - Easier to complete than say a BOtD, Enigma or other end game items for not that much lower performance. - As it is not the best in game, it will still make you think about your moves and plans. Not make the game child-easy, but still take you through hell comfortably.
Found your channel, really thought this was a great idea for a video and you've presented lots of valuable considerations for someone looking to upgrade IK. Ultimately I think it builds on the best aspect of IK which is its overall safety and reliability.
It's one of the few so far that I honestly felt was a pretty solid upgrade choice. If you are using IK set and you refuse to use anything else which is actually kinda common, the upgrades are actually pretty solid. If you plan on investing good jewels and runes in the equipment again the upgrade is solid.

The additional defense from upgrading seems pretty underwhelming, but the reason is probably that almost all items of the set get FLAT +defense-boni. If they had +%defense, it would be amazing. thx for the vid
I have two uses for this. 1: Budget Pitzerker with solid FCR items on swap for Hoarking. 2: Using the set on a Bear Druid (swap the helm with Jalahl's) and just... smack things with intense power.
Found 2 IK armors for my WW barb. The first was on players 1 from a lightning/fire enchanted unique goatman who took out my merc. I was running across the map to kill Threshsocket. The second on a pit run two days later on p3. Gave that to my other barb with a collection of 1 handed maces.
great video. definitely this is not the BIS for Barb. there are so many OP runeword gear better than this, but nothing beats the level of satisfaction / accomplishment for completing this set especially in single player. I just completed this set last week. felt so good to see the sacred green armour drop. for those of you still looking for the armour, keep grinding Pindleskin 😀

The most important investment for the WW barbarian is to make sure the weapon reaches extreme speed, and finally to keep accumulating hits. The IK set is one of my favorite items on the barbarian, it can do almost anything, maybe the damage is not comparable to the mainstream rune gear, but it is quite comprehensive, if I really have to judge, I would say the length of the IK hammer makes WW can not achieve the best number of attacks, everything else is quite good.
I'm playing D2 (LOD) more than 20 years now - offline only, using self-found items ONLY . (no overpowered runewords from runes a single player never ever sees) The armor is my holy grail - the last piece missing to complete this awesome set... Hope I'll find this damn thing some day - so my berserk barbarian will finally be enlightend. ;-) thanx for your review and regards from Germany
There is a lot of people that dont believe it but this is an end game set. Gives u pretty flexibility to the jewelry since it has both leach % and half freeze duration with freezes target +2 wich can allow u to not necessarily wear a raven frost.
Instead of maxing Battle Command you should max Concentrate and go with a WW Concentrate hybrid with 1point in Berserk and when pre-buffing always use Battle Command first Imho

Lol been at it about a year now, slowly refining myself as I go along. It's been a good journey of growth, and I don't plan to stop any time soon. UA-cam or the growth 😂 One of the things I have liked most about the journey on UA-cam is the self growth. The constant look inwards to improve.

The biggest takeaway is that the GG class sets are gonna be GG regardless of whether you upgrade them or not, while the OG sets will never be endgame viable (in their entirety), even if you upgrade them to elite :c
Unless they already were endgame viable, I.e. Deaths gloves and belt were already end game viable for some builds so being able to upgrade them is just a bonus.
I would love some added bonuses for partial sets, especially scaling ones like increased max damage, enhanced damage or defense increasing with your character level, preferably on top or in place of silly ones like +x to stat. This way many sets would be worth upping, running partial set would be viable for more and the full set bonus would be icing on the cake.
I still love this set. Four or five pieces on a shape-shifting Druid is massive. I'm building up the set on a hardcore Barbarian at the moment and excited to find the remaining pieces. What can I say? I just love a honking big two-handed chonka of a character 😁
Finally got the Immortal King's Soul Cage for the first time ever from Pindleskin after what seemed like eternity and was able to complete the set while playing as the Sorceress with 468 magic find on Plugy! Was pretty excited and transferred it over to the Barbarian for a short test in Act 1 Hell with strength charms and amulet and rings to equip it all and it was fairly solid even though the character isn't specced for it at all. Looking forward to properly respeccing with a better amulet and rings along with the best max damage/attack rating charms I have to complete my playthrough of the rest of the acts of Hell! :)

Got this set and full Tals, and I now consider my sorc (I use for MF) and my barb (trav runs) complete. I traded a jah for the full IK set and full tal set + a vex. May have ripped myself off, but oh well.
Upgraded Immortal Kings Set changes level requirements after being equipped (16:25) He says the Gloves have req lvl 64 requirement in the video, which it did in the cube and inventory, but after he equipped it, it became req lvl 71. (17:20) He also says Belt has req lvl 67, which it did in cube and inventory, but after equipped, it becomes req lvl 74. (17:43) He still says out loud, that the Boots when upgraded to elite are req lvl 65, moves that one straight to his character, and it becomes req lvl 72.
Oh I forgot to mention…. I saw a video of a Baba killin Ubers with full IK… yeah it was a little slower but it was doable and that was cool to see a glow set able too do it. The only side cheese I saw was the guy standing in a 4 post pillar fire thing in like city of the damned to proc treachery and then swap back then he was off to kill. Pretty dope nonetheless.
i'm quite excited we can upgrade these set items however defense is such a meh stat in diablo 2 that i really fail to see why its important to be able to upgrade these sets. sure, Boots and Belts have some points to be upgraded (even shields i guess) but it seems almost pointless especially when you start looking at the levels and stat requirements of these upgraded pieces.
Really depends on the set, Deaths gloves and Belt for instance are great upgrades, so is irathas belt. IK pieces upgrade well because the entire set already requires so much strength that it really doesn't matter the Strength increased. Some pieces have hidden upgrades like increase to block, smite damage, kick damage ect. Upgrading these can have a better effect than you would think. Also Defense while being a mediocre stat is still one that can save your life. Small numbers like the gains on this IK Set for instance add up to big numbers after shout+ironskin improves all the defense on the character. Especially if you get the Fort Chilling armor buff.

If you're a fully buffed Conc Barb your def is gonna be thru the roof during attack. Also x2 Shaels in maul for 80 IAS & x2 Fals in helm for high str req.
It was actually a pretty solid upgrade, the high strength on this set meant that the high strength on the items wasn't really that big of a deal. Because you already needed high strength anyway because of the weapon and the armor.
For jewelry: Raven Frosy for CBF, Highlord's for 20 IAS & DS, Dwarf Star for fire absorb & life. Optionals: Mara's [ofc] for all res & attributes (for high str) or Nature's Peace for RIP & prevent monster heal.
I think the reason they didnt give the helm any bonuses is so that another class could wear this..i really think a fury druid with jalals helmas opposed to ik helm is made for this set
interesting, I was actually kinda surprised it didn't upgrade and I was wondering why It could just be a bug they need to fix. oh poopys I just realized if it's normal difficulty it needs Shael Tal and I screwed up the video just like that lol
I've heard the Maul is one Shael rune away from the next whirlwind attack speed breakpoint, but I did not check in the calculator. So one Shael + one Lo might be better than two Lo runes. Or maybe one Lo + one ED/15% IAS magic jewel.
I am playing a conc barb since the release of d2r (along with 2 other classes) and I am really looking for this set (and Tal's). I play solo self found single player and I am still missing the armor (as also Tal's armor) and, surprisingly - the belt. For the life of me, I cannot find it. :D I just got twice the helm in a row off of hell Meph and have countless boots and gloves, but not the belt :D. Oh, and the armor is quite hard to find actually, so it might take me a while. While hunting, I already have Aldur's complete set (the only elite set so far completed) and I got Griswold's shield (also hard to come by).
Had same experience actually :D Played for D2 for years. I seem to find the Helm and Maul a lot. Never found the chest or the belt. They are not expensive to trade for however, so I really think I want to make a IK barb whenever ladder releases :D
this is a viable set for p1 in terms of killing speed, tolerable. once you hit p3 and up you will be slowing everyone down. however, you wont die easily even at p8 and you will be able to tank for your team mates. currently running a war pike ebotd and the damage done is multiple times higher with WW. essentially quite tough, too. the only reason to get this is for a budget build, its usable but very frustrating due to the kill speed and the only way to make this better is with the use of expensive charms which would be ironic because ebotd spears and pikes or whatever could be had for much less including the all-important fortitude and arreats face. its a different story in legacy, tho...it was OP back in the day but not as OP as tal rashas...
IK whirlwind barb set can work at p8 too... Use a merc with might and put two Sheal (or the extremely costly EXACTLY 15% IAS jewels) in the Ogre Maul for the 69 IAS breakpoint. Finally add a torch and some nice charms. Thats whats needed to make the damage at least useful on such a high player count... on the other hand you are still super tanky even with just base set so you are never really in danger of dieing.
Thoughts on socketing the armor, putting in a Hel for -20% requirements and then putting the extra stat points in vitality? Seems like strength bonuses to damage are pretty much negligible, so the strength stat seems to be there solely for gear requirements.
I dont understand, Bul-Kathos is the Immortal King who taught man the secret of steel. Hes pretty much synonymous with swords in Diablo lore. Hius set weapon is a maul....?

The last one adds a +1 to all skills, which makes them all better by one level. So the first time you cast them they are say lvl 10 and the second time they are all lvl 11
What kills me about IK is that you totally could use Berserk with it, but then you'd be wasting all that substantial defense that it provides, especially after upgrading the pieces. Concentrate's a pretty awesome alternative, but it always tempts me to put points in Berserk to get a magic damage synergy for physical immunes. Looks like that's not really needed with this set's extra elemental damage though, it's like a Vengeance-lite
@SaturnineXTS A act 2 might merc with reapers toll made this GG for me.. never had to worry about physical immunes again and increase your physical dmg output by a ton.
Hope you might consider Doing guided playthroughs when the ladder Starts, Like beeing a Streamer maybe, i Just bought the Game to participate in the First ladder
Guided playthroughs hmmm 🤔 not sure I like that sound of that. Like tell you what to do and what to wear and what points to put in and such? Sounds very not my style if that's the case. I like people to do things there own way. Which is why I lean so heavily on teaching as opposed to telling.

I tried my hardest making a barbarian build that did not use runewords or IK SET, and I failed to make anything that was on par with IK SET, or a barb rocking OP runewords (IE GRIEF AND ENIGMA) I tried so hard, and it made me realize just how much better grief and enigma are compared to EVERYTHING. Makes me sad I tried everything I could and at the end of it all, to make my barb fun, I HAVE to use engima and grief.
I have made plenty of barbs without enigma and grief and do just fine. *Shrug* I think it all depends on what you are expecting. Grief is a nice high damage weapon and teleport is nice but neither are required to build a character. A Barb without both can still complete content, leap works just fine as a teleport replacement in most cases. Even better now that they sped it up. And there are tons of other weapons which can function in place of grief and still clear hell p3 content with relative ease. Heck my shield barbarian I made recently clears just fine with a botd berserker's axe. 🪓
Im not sure if you noticed but the armor boosts for the gloves boot and belt were horrible, they only went up a tiny bit, it was a waste of resources IMO, I mean the boots went up like 13 defense
Yup, but I am also thinking about the multiplication from shouts, as well as the fact that if you chose to use this as your barb set upgrading it eventually would be something you would do for optimal setup.
The Immortal Kings set is awesome but the drop rate on the armor makes it nearly impossible to obtain. The other pieces are around 1:300- 1:800 from bosses and Cow King but the Armor jumps up to 1:16,000 - 1:23,000 which is right up there with a BER rune. CRAAAAAZY
I am a big fan of the Barbarian class and I loath this set because it is the most character space consuming set. It takes 7 spaces and leaves rings and amulet spaces. This set shouldn't have had a weapon. Instead it should've given an enhanced damage bonus. That would give more options and viable usage throughout the game.
For some reason I thought Ogre Maul would upgrade to Thunder Maul... (I checked; it doesn't). Now I'm even more disappointed because I thought IK and M'avinas weapons could be upgraded and neither can. Would have been nice to see these sets on a semi-competitive level for starter gear at least.
Why they chose certain items is a mystery, The IK Helmet was a normal difficulty item in an end game set for instance. Many of the sets have these odd choices, like Aldurs is mostly Nightmare level equipment but they tossed in a lvl 73 elite armor which makes it unusable until lvl 73.
I never could understand why they would put a weapon on this set. Barbarians have different masteries in different types of weapons; so it boxes you in to only one type of weapon being mauls. Makes for a rather mundane elite set.

The ability to upgrade sets is a new feature in version 2.4. Live servers are still on 2.3 and you will have to wait. These videos are done on the 2.4 public test realm.
If I want build a IK set barb WW + Concentrate, what i should put in the helmet? Some people recommend put 2 perfect amathistes for strengh or put ORT + THUL runes for resistances. The weapon always is pretty good put 2 shaels for more speed attack ratio, and armor put a pruby for vitality.
Love to know how to upgraded the IK Gauntlets, Boots, and Belt. Tried multiple times on D2R Battlenet account. Yes - LEM - KO - PDiamond. Able to upgrade any unique item with no issues. Confused.
This is a feature being introduced in version 2.4 Right now on live we are on version 2.3 I am doing this upgrades on the 2.4 public test realm in advance of the launch of 2.4. You will be able to upgrade yours when 2.4 launches.
Wish they'd buff the ik maul, it's really the only bad part of the set, pretty much ruining it. They tried making it an elemental/physical dmg set but doesn't have near enough of either. Wish they'd slap on a 1 to lite mast 1 to fire mast 1 to cold mast (Can be upgraded from + skills) That way the ik set could benefit from elemental dmg.
Sooo...2262 vs 2315 defense is worth 3 lem 3 ko 3 perf diamond? This is without uprading the helm. With helm upgraded you add another 111 defense for another 1 lem 1 ko 2 perf diamonds. I think they should enhance the defense a little more, make it at least 400 def distribued around 4 upgraded items
Your not wrong but if you were planning on maining this set it would be worth the investment. Some people just really love IK set and want to rock it forever.

Instead of maxing Battle Command you should max Concentrate and go with a WW Concentrate hybrid with 1point in Berserk and when pre-buffing always use Battle Command first

Definitely top tier set right there. This or either tals can go to number 1. Still missing the armor though. Tals was easier to complete.
I hope they keep the set upgrades at the end of the PTR. I play on single player a lot and be nice to be able to upgrade some of the set pieces

The biggest takeaway is that the GG class sets are gonna be GG regardless of whether you upgrade them or not, while the OG sets will never be endgame viable (in their entirety), even if you upgrade them to elite :c
Unless they already were endgame viable, I.e. Deaths gloves and belt were already end game viable for some builds so being able to upgrade them is just a bonus.

The Avenger Guard (Helmet) is a normal item. You needed Tal + Shael + P. Diamond to upgrade it to exceptional first. And then from that to elite.

I would love some added bonuses for partial sets, especially scaling ones like increased max damage, enhanced damage or defense increasing with your character level, preferably on top or in place of silly ones like +x to stat. This way many sets would be worth upping, running partial set would be viable for more and the full set bonus would be icing on the cake.
I still love this set. Four or five pieces on a shape-shifting Druid is massive. I'm building up the set on a hardcore Barbarian at the moment and excited to find the remaining pieces.
What can I say? I just love a honking big two-handed chonka of a character 😁
Finally got the Immortal King's Soul Cage for the first time ever from Pindleskin after what seemed like eternity and was able to complete the set while playing as the Sorceress with 468 magic find on Plugy! Was pretty excited and transferred it over to the Barbarian for a short test in Act 1 Hell with strength charms and amulet and rings to equip it all and it was fairly solid even though the character isn't specced for it at all. Looking forward to properly respeccing with a better amulet and rings along with the best max damage/attack rating charms I have to complete my playthrough of the rest of the acts of Hell! :)

Got this set and full Tals, and I now consider my sorc (I use for MF) and my barb (trav runs) complete.
I traded a jah for the full IK set and full tal set + a vex. May have ripped myself off, but oh well.
Tals ammy and tals armor hold decent value. Not sure if it's jah lvl but two full sets plus a vex certainly isn't nothing.
Upgraded Immortal Kings Set changes level requirements after being equipped
(16:25) He says the Gloves have req lvl 64 requirement in the video, which it did in the cube and inventory, but after he equipped it, it became req lvl 71.
(17:20) He also says Belt has req lvl 67, which it did in cube and inventory, but after equipped, it becomes req lvl 74.
(17:43) He still says out loud, that the Boots when upgraded to elite are req lvl 65, moves that one straight to his character, and it becomes req lvl 72.
yes this is some sort of bug that occurred due to upgrading the sets. take the higher number as the actual, not the lower number.
This happens with death's disguise as well when you up just the belt, the actual req is like 5 higher than what is displayed

Oh I forgot to mention…. I saw a video of a Baba killin Ubers with full IK… yeah it was a little slower but it was doable and that was cool to see a glow set able too do it. The only side cheese I saw was the guy standing in a 4 post pillar fire thing in like city of the damned to proc treachery and then swap back then he was off to kill. Pretty dope nonetheless.
i'm quite excited we can upgrade these set items however defense is such a meh stat in diablo 2 that i really fail to see why its important to be able to upgrade these sets. sure, Boots and Belts have some points to be upgraded (even shields i guess) but it seems almost pointless especially when you start looking at the levels and stat requirements of these upgraded pieces.
Really depends on the set, Deaths gloves and Belt for instance are great upgrades, so is irathas belt. IK pieces upgrade well because the entire set already requires so much strength that it really doesn't matter the Strength increased.
Some pieces have hidden upgrades like increase to block, smite damage, kick damage ect. Upgrading these can have a better effect than you would think.
Also Defense while being a mediocre stat is still one that can save your life. Small numbers like the gains on this IK Set for instance add up to big numbers after shout+ironskin improves all the defense on the character. Especially if you get the Fort Chilling armor buff.
I agree, would only upgrade the helm.
3 piece Gloves Boots Belt is a Must for any of my melee guys. when I get to lvl 31 change out my sigs 3 piece for ik 3 piece
I used the hammer (plus gloves, belt, and boots) on a Sorceress to beat players 8. My left button was normal attack, and right button was teleport.
The IK set is already pretty good but I was expecting a bit more from upgrading them
Yea the set is very much viable with the correct sockets, but giving up the armor and helm slot for barbarian is game changing.

If you're a fully buffed Conc Barb your def is gonna be thru the roof during attack. Also x2 Shaels in maul for 80 IAS & x2 Fals in helm for high str req.

It was actually a pretty solid upgrade, the high strength on this set meant that the high strength on the items wasn't really that big of a deal. Because you already needed high strength anyway because of the weapon and the armor.

For jewelry: Raven Frosy for CBF, Highlord's for 20 IAS & DS, Dwarf Star for fire absorb & life. Optionals: Mara's [ofc] for all res & attributes (for high str) or Nature's Peace for RIP & prevent monster heal.
I used to use this build with a bunch of Sol runes in sockets to farm DKeys in Hardcore with a little help from Leap.
I would probably put ohm runes in the weapon to further increase the enhanced damage and put ist runes in the helm to further increase magic find.
Why ist Runes? Also P. TOPAS Can get MF in Helmet

I believe the avengers guard IK isn’t able to be upgraded because it contains two open sockets, not because it is elite (it’s normal I believe)

I've heard the Maul is one Shael rune away from the next whirlwind attack speed breakpoint, but I did not check in the calculator. So one Shael + one Lo might be better than two Lo runes. Or maybe one Lo + one ED/15% IAS magic jewel.
You need 69 ias to hit the last breakpoint. So 2 shaels or 2 15ias jewels
I am playing a conc barb since the release of d2r (along with 2 other classes) and I am really looking for this set (and Tal's). I play solo self found single player and I am still missing the armor (as also Tal's armor) and, surprisingly - the belt. For the life of me, I cannot find it. :D I just got twice the helm in a row off of hell Meph and have countless boots and gloves, but not the belt :D. Oh, and the armor is quite hard to find actually, so it might take me a while. While hunting, I already have Aldur's complete set (the only elite set so far completed) and I got Griswold's shield (also hard to come by).
Remember to check the treasure class of the monsters you're killing to be sure what you're farming is capable of dropping the armor pieces. Good luck
Had same experience actually :D Played for D2 for years. I seem to find the Helm and Maul a lot. Never found the chest or the belt. They are not expensive to trade for however, so I really think I want to make a IK barb whenever ladder releases :D

this is a viable set for p1 in terms of killing speed, tolerable. once you hit p3 and up you will be slowing everyone down. however, you wont die easily even at p8 and you will be able to tank for your team mates. currently running a war pike ebotd and the damage done is multiple times higher with WW. essentially quite tough, too.
the only reason to get this is for a budget build, its usable but very frustrating due to the kill speed and the only way to make this better is with the use of expensive charms which would be ironic because ebotd spears and pikes or whatever could be had for much less including the all-important fortitude and arreats face.
its a different story in legacy, tho...it was OP back in the day but not as OP as tal rashas...
IK whirlwind barb set can work at p8 too... Use a merc with might and put two Sheal (or the extremely costly EXACTLY 15% IAS jewels) in the Ogre Maul for the 69 IAS breakpoint. Finally add a torch and some nice charms. Thats whats needed to make the damage at least useful on such a high player count... on the other hand you are still super tanky even with just base set so you are never really in danger of dieing.

Thoughts on socketing the armor, putting in a Hel for -20% requirements and then putting the extra stat points in vitality? Seems like strength bonuses to damage are pretty much negligible, so the strength stat seems to be there solely for gear requirements.

The last one adds a +1 to all skills, which makes them all better by one level.
So the first time you cast them they are say lvl 10 and the second time they are all lvl 11
What kills me about IK is that you totally could use Berserk with it, but then you'd be wasting all that substantial defense that it provides, especially after upgrading the pieces. Concentrate's a pretty awesome alternative, but it always tempts me to put points in Berserk to get a magic damage synergy for physical immunes. Looks like that's not really needed with this set's extra elemental damage though, it's like a Vengeance-lite
yes the set gives you basically a tiny bit of elemental damage of all types. It's kinda crazy.
@SaturnineXTS A act 2 might merc with reapers toll made this GG for me.. never had to worry about physical immunes again and increase your physical dmg output by a ton.

I tried my hardest making a barbarian build that did not use runewords or IK SET, and I failed to make anything that was on par with IK SET, or a barb rocking OP runewords (IE GRIEF AND ENIGMA) I tried so hard, and it made me realize just how much better grief and enigma are compared to EVERYTHING. Makes me sad I tried everything I could and at the end of it all, to make my barb fun, I HAVE to use engima and grief.
I have made plenty of barbs without enigma and grief and do just fine.

I think it all depends on what you are expecting.
Grief is a nice high damage weapon and teleport is nice but neither are required to build a character.
A Barb without both can still complete content, leap works just fine as a teleport replacement in most cases. Even better now that they sped it up.
And there are tons of other weapons which can function in place of grief and still clear hell p3 content with relative ease.
Heck my shield barbarian I made recently clears just fine with a botd berserker's axe. 🪓
Im not sure if you noticed but the armor boosts for the gloves boot and belt were horrible, they only went up a tiny bit, it was a waste of resources IMO, I mean the boots went up like 13 defense
Yup, but I am also thinking about the multiplication from shouts, as well as the fact that if you chose to use this as your barb set upgrading it eventually would be something you would do for optimal setup.

Found 2 armors, 3 belts, 1 glove, about 7 mauls, and 8 or 9 helms.

The Immortal Kings set is awesome but the drop rate on the armor makes it nearly impossible to obtain. The other pieces are around 1:300- 1:800 from bosses and Cow King but the Armor jumps up to 1:16,000 - 1:23,000 which is right up there with a BER rune. CRAAAAAZY
I am a big fan of the Barbarian class and I loath this set because it is the most character space consuming set. It takes 7 spaces and leaves rings and amulet spaces. This set shouldn't have had a weapon. Instead it should've given an enhanced damage bonus. That would give more options and viable usage throughout the game.
Aye I agree the weapon really limits the set overall.
For some reason I thought Ogre Maul would upgrade to Thunder Maul... (I checked; it doesn't). Now I'm even more disappointed because I thought IK and M'avinas weapons could be upgraded and neither can. Would have been nice to see these sets on a semi-competitive level for starter gear at least.
Why they chose certain items is a mystery, The IK Helmet was a normal difficulty item in an end game set for instance.
Many of the sets have these odd choices, like Aldurs is mostly Nightmare level equipment but they tossed in a lvl 73 elite armor which makes it unusable until lvl 73.
I remember back many years ago in 1.09 patch that IK armor was pure godly and hard to find . Insane amount of soj

I never could understand why they would put a weapon on this set. Barbarians have different masteries in different types of weapons; so it boxes you in to only one type of weapon being mauls. Makes for a rather mundane elite set.

Budget wise , its hard to beat IK .
Defence / offence / utility its hard to beat unless you got a ton of FG or insane luck .
Some people like to socket in Tacit Jewels while playing online Ladder.
Running an Abbot paladin and using steel carapace I will use the gloves and belt for the huge +strength.

The ability to upgrade sets is a new feature in version 2.4. Live servers are still on 2.3 and you will have to wait. These videos are done on the 2.4 public test realm.

Some people recommend put 2 perfect amathistes for strengh or put ORT + THUL runes for resistances. The weapon always is pretty good put 2 shaels for more speed attack ratio, and armor put a pruby for vitality.

I am doing this upgrades on the 2.4 public test realm in advance of the launch of 2.4.

Wish they'd buff the ik maul, it's really the only bad part of the set, pretty much ruining it.
They tried making it an elemental/physical dmg set but doesn't have near enough of either.
Wish they'd slap on a
1 to lite mast
1 to fire mast
1 to cold mast
(Can be upgraded from + skills)
That way the ik set could benefit from elemental dmg.

Sooo...2262 vs 2315 defense is worth 3 lem 3 ko 3 perf diamond? This is without uprading the helm. With helm upgraded you add another 111 defense for another 1 lem 1 ko 2 perf diamonds. I think they should enhance the defense a little more, make it at least 400 def distribued around 4 upgraded items

The helm cannot be upgraded bcos avenger guard helm is a normal helm not an exceptional helm … you will need a diff cube formula
