In 1999, the Bureau of Labor Statistics recorded $23,510 as the average base salary. By 2019, the average base salary rose to $37,550. Wages grew by $14,040 (or $702 yearly) from 1999-2019. The estimated 2020 average base salary would be $38,252, using $702 as the average yearly income. If trends were to continue, by 2029, the average base salary would rise to $44,570.
The job market for psychiatric techs has grown since 1999. In 1999, there were 54,560 employed psychiatric techs. By 2019, this rose to 78,470 employed psychiatric techs. From 1999 - 2019, there was a growth of 23,910 employed psychiatric techs (1,196 per year). In 2019, the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicted a 13% increase in psychiatric techs over the next ten years. By 2029, they predicted 88,671 employed psychiatric techs, about 10,000 more jobs than in 2019. The reason for this forecast is because of demographic shifts occurring in the United States. As our population gets older, more and more healthcare workers are going to be needed to help people with mental illness. The older people get, the greater the chance mental illness can occur. These workers will be needed for treating older people.
