    Dr. Fung is intelligent no doubt, but what I really like about him is his ability to keep it simple.

      Simple? You mean cherry picked parts of studies that support his views. People do your own research, don't be a Jason Fung sheep please! If you demonize Insulin, you either know extremely little about how the body works or you are trying to sell thing to people looking to blame anything but themselves for being overweight. Jason Fung is the latter.

      Paul Jansen What?? Who's selling something? Who demonized insulin? Did you read my comment? I expressed MY opinion on Dr. Fungs presentation. How you took sales and demonizing out of that is beyond me! What I "cherry picked" out of your comment is that you've COMPLICATED a simple observation.

      @Rusty you don't know what you are talking about! Sugar, refined foods, starches cause diabetes! It also causes candida yeast to over grow and become fungus in your body that causes cancer. Many are now practically being born with cancer. And cancer is becoming rampage. Diabetes is high sugar in the blood. High sugar or starch kills the good friendly bacteria in your gut! The diet is to substitute sugar to high fat for a few weeks for the transition. The body then starts to use your body fat thus losing drastic weight. You maintain eating your raw veggies salads, good fats and low meats. This is the best diet. Plus adding intermediate diet really adds to the punch of loosing weight. There some people that is keep their weight down and are extremely healthy is ONE healthy good meal a day. Great for diabetics because the constant snacking or eating forces your body to produce insulin and is not good. I met people that eat this way and are super healthy, alert, full of life.

      @@itscooltobeyou No, I bought a dumbbell set and train at home. Did some research and watched some professionals on youtube like Jeff Cavalier (athleanX) and Mike Thurston.
      My basic routine is: Dumbbell floor press (chest), windshield floor wiper (abs), dumbbell skull crusher (triceps), Squats (legs), dumbbell Curl (biceps), bend over rowing (back). I do 5 sets of 10 reps for each exercise.
      Most of the exercises I do are what they call 'compound' exercises so you train different body parts at once. I switch some exercises after a while to shake up things a bit like eg I will do Hammer curl instead of normal curl and eg dead lifts instead of squats.

      Big Food and Big Pharma have to keep people obese and sick to make big profits and the NHS with corrupt Senior civil servants, Corrupt, corrupt MPs are shills and colluding with big food and big pharma.
      The wrong food to eat they are pushing will make and keep people obese and make them sick.
      The British NHS terrible nutrition advice is proof of this.
      htps://www.nhs.uk/live-well/eat-well/
      "base meals on starchy foods like potatoes, bread, rice or pasta"
      "Aim to eat at least 2 portions of fish a week, including 1 portion of oily fish."
      "have some dairy or dairy alternatives (such as soya drinks)."
      "Having a sliced banana with your "morning cereal" is an easy way to get 1 portion".
      " Eating a lot of saturated fat can raise cholesterol levels in the blood, and having high cholesterolraises your risk of heart disease".
      A few excerpts from the NHS website...GASP!
      For the truth on optimum human health read the book called the Obesity Code by Dr Jason Fung.
      UA-cam Cole Robinson Snake Juice too for a man who walks the walk.

      they do the fat bastards stay at home and eat all day so they miss school.

    • @kakefisk
      @kakefisk 6 років тому +6

      They do teach this at medical school,but there they teach the proper version. What he's neatly skipping over is that if you have insulin resistance as a result of too high blood sugar levels for too llong(type 2 diabetes) and you reduce the amount of energy you eat, then the body will pull on some of the energy it has available to cover the difference, and some of this energy will be taken from the excess energy in the blood - the blood sugar. If you eat less than you need and lose weight, blood sugar levels will go down.
      When/if the blood sugar levels go down and stay down,eventually insulin sensitivity returns to more normal levels. This is why weight loss is an integral part of treating type 2 diabetes.
      Yes,the body will adapt to the energy deficit by trying to reduce how much it spends, but you have some leeway. The bigger the gap between what it wants and what it has, the faster this adaptation will occur. If the deficit is smaller, the body can keep losing weight for longer before it gets upset,and you have more space to make more changes.
      So he's basically giving you half the truth in order to push his view,which is troublesome.

    Dr. Fung has been a godsend. I tried the conventional wisdom, the counting calories and “calories in/calories out” model for decades with limited success and it was impossible to progress beyond a certain point. I’ve been putting his insight to work for over a year now and I’ve blown through past persistent plateaus and improved my body composition way more than I thought was possible. And it’s still working, unlike the conventional wisdom which consistently hit a wall about six months into it no matter how much I counted calories or exercised. It’s what you’re eating and the frequency with which you’re eating much more than the calories. The metabolic switch and controlling for insulin and other hormones and blood sugar are the key. That comes first, then being in a caloric deficit will actually be effective over time. I’m sure that I’m in a caloric deficit but I don’t count calories. I just practice time restricted eating and eat a healthy keto diet. I just focus on hormones including counter regulatory hormones like noradrenaline and glucagon, blood sugar, the metabolic switch, ketosis and hgh which is naturally upregulated early in a fast when you get the metabolic switch, insulin sensitivity, and anabolic sensitivity.

    Im am not a native english do i get this right? The best way to lose fat is to keep insulin low to open the freezer. If insulin is high, you aren't going to be able to access your energy reserves which is why people with insulin resistance/diabetes struggle to lose weight even in a calorie deficit and if you've noticed, those who are taking insulin gain weight and many actually become obese, and it happens even if the person is in a calorie deficit. If you are metabolically healthy, you are likely to have good insulin sensitivity, or a metabolism that burns a lot of calories very quickly, so you get no big spike in blood sugar which means insulin doesn't need to go crazy trying to store energy, keeping it on the low end, making it easier for your body to use up the stored glucose and fat. Bottom line, a calorie deficit is effective if you have good insulin sensitivity or a beast metabolism.

    That last bit was very interesting to me. It explains when people say if you reduce calories it doesn’t work. But that’s only if you’re eating the wrong calories. If you’re on keto and fat adapted and you reduce calories it’ll reduce insulin which means you can burn your fat. So it won’t reduce calories out even though you’re reducing calories in.

    Long ago I lost a great deal of weight (70 lbs.) as I was learning about my body from the writings of Dr. Roy Walford and his work on calorie restriction and longevity. It took me 20 years of bad eating to get back over 200 lbs. again so I decided it was time to do some new research and see what I could do to both get back to my ideal weight and to help my mother to lose weight since I felt that the disease that eventually killed her was related to her being over weight. Fortunately, mostly out of instinct, I gave up sugar 20 years ago especially in my beverages and didn't return to the habit of three teaspoons in my coffee and such. I am currently in the process of fasting to get back where I should be which being 5'10" and of large bone structure I feel should be between 160 to 170 lbs. Tonight I told my mothers five siblings how I was losing weight (almost 10Kg in three weeks) and they responded with extreme concern and told me all the clichés that I was expecting and all the armature doctor advice that goes with them. I was too late to help my mother but I feel that I’m still in time to help all of them who are each at some stage or another of type-two diabetes.
    The catch is, none of them speak English, only Spanish. I found Dr. Fung's first book "The Obesity Code" in Spanish and will be buying them each a copy however not the new book "The Diabetes Code". When will this be available in Spanish? You've got to get this information out to the rest of the world it is too important, lives hang in the balance. If this book has been translated does anyone know where I can buy a copy? It's not on amazon. If not, when can I expect it to be available? Thanks in advance for reading this and any help you can grant me.

    So the key is, eat smaller meals, and space them out to every 2 hours, so the insulin can have a quick job of processing food that you intake. Insulin can only get at unwanted fats on the body, if it doesn't have days worth of food backed up in your system. It can simply bring your body to renewal, if it's released, in a health manner, without over indulging with portions.

    • @AzaleaBee
      @AzaleaBee 3 роки тому +1

      No. Eating several meals spaced out every two hours all day even if those meals are small is going to keep blood glucose and glycogen levels high and spike insulin depending especially on what your meals consisted of. To tap into fat stores, you need to deplete the blood glucose AND glycogen by

    I did intermittent fasting and extended fasting months ago without knowing that I was 4-5 months pregnant already. I was scared that I might develop diabetes since I always crave for sweet foods. Although undiagnosed, but I had the symptoms of diabetes, hypoglycemia, sweet food addiction, I also had insomnia, lowered libido and mood swings. I guess unhealthy food products and being overweight really takes a toll on your health .What I did was i only ate thinly sliced raw cabbage, boiled eggs, some cheese to put flavor in the cabbage, cucumber, grean leafy vegetables here in my country. No coffee, no sugar, no bread, no rice, no dairy. I've lost 20 lbs in 6 weeks, from 170 lbs last year, I went to 150, that was when I was pregnant already. Now, I've given birth 3 months ago, I'm now 145 lbs, sadly I cannot do fasting in full blast since I noticed my breastmilk production gets affected..I will do it again once my baby turns 3 yrs old..but, still, even if I'm not fasting anymore and I'm back to eating rice and putting sugar on my tea, I'm 145 lbs, which is really great..im happy coz im able to maintain it despite eating some unhealthy food again..my point is, fasting healed my insulin resistance. :)

    In general, I agree (based on my experience doing intermittent fasting for a couple years). My fasting insulin is super low now (about 2mcU/mL), which is good, and means that I am highly insulin sensitive. I did lose a lot of weight going from 33 BMI to 23 BMI. However, even with my low insulin levels, and continuing to be sort-of low carb and doing intermittent fasting and walking for exercise, I can't completely lose my belly fat. I think if insulin was the be-all end-all, I'd lose my belly fat, too, but alas, the diet gods are not so kind...

      I think they do, they just have a different model of understanding.
      The dietitians say all that matters is calories in vs calories out. This is in fact true. Dr. Fung is saying, well if you don't control your insulin, and you start cutting calories, your body will burn less calories. This is also true. What the dietitians don't say is that second part though. Your body passively burns less but also you will basically become lazy, fogbrained and unable to really get a good workout, meaning you're burning less calories overall. The calories in vs calories out thing still holds true.

    If you decrease your calories intake, you definitely will lose weight. Yes, your metabolism will slow down, but if you exercise regularly, there is no way in beating the law of thermodynamics. Also, lower calorie intake should equal lower insulin response because the size of your meals are smaller given that your macronutrients stay equal. You can also enhance the lower insulin response by just eating less sugar and carbs.

    • @Seedzification
      @Seedzification 6 років тому +12

      Our bodies are not a closed system. Thermodynamics law don't apply. Calories are not equals, proteins takes more energy to metabolize than carbs or fat. Carbs raise your insulin throught the roof. Macros matters, not calories. Cal are a side thing.

      Seedzification Correct but technically calories are macros each individual macro contains calories so if we eat too much protein and carbs for example your insulin levels goes up and it causes you to gain weight not because of calories however fat is almost neutral it doesn’t create an insulin response people are throwing out the myth that too many calories make you fat when really all it is is excessive carbs and protein in the diet and high insulin the theory of calories in calories vs calories out is a deception

  • @KamuiAlmighty
    @KamuiAlmighty 2 роки тому +2

    One flaw in Dr. Fung's reasoning: your body cannot simply "reduce the calories out". Whether your insulin is high or low, your body requires a certain amount of calories to maintain all the internal metabolic functions it needs to carry out on a daily basis. Unless insulin can suddenly change the laws of thermodynamics, these "maintenance" calories cannot be reduced. If you require 1,500 calories to keep your body alive today, you will require 1,500 calories to keep your body alive tomorrow, even if your insulin levels are elevated. So, at the end of the day, yes, insulin is very important, especially when it comes to reducing fatty liver, etc., but CICO is king. If you want to lose weight, reduce your calories. If you're making the right food choices, your insulin will come down naturally.

    • @GabesHacks
      @GabesHacks 2 роки тому

      Reducing the calories out means lowering your metabolism. Lots of animals do it (e.g. hibernation) without changing the laws of thermodynamics.

    Consistently Controlling Calories in versus out with High protein an exercising. But consistently lowering Insulin will plateau weight loss so you have to start feeding healthy carbs with exercising to main a balance for muscle. Then Make the switch of the two a routine so you're body is aware the time you need the energy stored in muscles an the time you need to go into a energy burn out.

      You should watch Dr fungs video on the myths of intermittent fasting. You do not lose muscle, I certainly have not, in fact, many people have found they gain muscle easier since fasting, especially if they do their training in the fasted state. You would also be surprised to find that your body doesn't need to be overloaded with protein, its another lie you've been told. Our ancestors were in shape, yet, they moved way more than we do, ate less than we do and they didn't have protein shakes and powders and man-made supplements, they got their protein from meat, eggs etc... yet they weren't just blobs of fat, they were actually very muscular.

    This is great advice, but this is an oversimplification of body fat storage. There is another hormone called ASP (Acylation Stimulating Protein) that also encourages fat storage. In addition, stress levels and cortisol have a psychological and behavioral impact making fat-burning more complex than this simplified model.
