I really enjoyed this video! You gave a lot of great tips for how to decide what to buy and I loved getting to literally watch you shop and hear the process! I am such an impulse shopper, but currently need to stick to a budget. There are so many videos out there of people sharing their big hauls or that are full of expensive items. So I really appreciated seeing your video that had a budget closer to mine. Also, I loved your idea of setting a $30 monthly limit and if you want something that costs more, to save up for it. I’m rambling but what I’m trying to say is that I really appreciated seeing a video where the spending was more relatable to me. I almost felt like I was shopping with a friend! Happy early birthday btw!
I too feel a little jealous when I see those amazing big hauls! But that’s just not my reality at the moment so I’m very glad that you found this video relatable and helpful as well. Thank you for the birthday wishes! 🥰❤️
Add Romantic Country by Eriy to your coloring book list. She is a popular Japanese illustrator who draws her books with ink and a toothpick! I've been watching your videos since day one, and I feel like I have a grasp on what books are your type. I think you will fall in love with this illustrator!
Eriy books are definitely on my radar! I think I might have to look into making an Amazon Japan order because they cost quite a bit to get shipped over here to Australia 😅❤️
I use the amazon wish list a lot. I lucked out a ton last week. Target stores here in the usa had a buy 2 get 1 free sale on books and movies. Well amazon decided to price match that sale ( on selected items ). They even had a spend $50 and save 20% off coupon that stacked. There was a huge amount of coloring books from my wish list that were a part of that sale. I splurged. I had a gift card from my birthday and i got whatever I could. They just came yesterday. I am so excited. Most of my collection has been just amazon paper coloring books because they are cheap and cute. I finally have some high quality books and I can't wait to start coloring in them. Michael's craft store sent me a $10 and a $5 off any purchase coupon and a 40% off any 1 item coupon. Sadly they couldn't be used on books, but I finally did get a set of pastels. Now I just need to save up for some good markers and I will be in coloring heaven. I haven't used markers before but I really want to try them. Anyway, enjoy your goodies! 💜
Omg coupons are a lifesaver aren’t they! It sounds like you’ve gotten some AMAZING deals. How awesome! And I highly recommend markers, you won’t be disappointed ❤️
Fab video Kyra hope you enjoy your new colouring goodies and omg it is especially so easy to spend money on all the beautiful supplies and colouring books 💜💜💜
Hello, on Kerby Rosanes, I was intimidated in the beginning, but his books I find are the best to use brushes to set backgrounds, then use pencils for accents and contrasts. I would definitely recommend giving one of them a try. For background Johanna Basford is my go to illustrator.
This was such a fun video and a really interesting insight to how you go about budgeting books/supplies! 🥰 this has me thinking I should do a similar thing of allotting a certain amount a month and a couple of extra splurges throughout the year! You have chosen some great books - can’t wait to see what you colour in them all 😍😍
Yes! I find that creating these “guidelines” really helps not to go overboard with my spending but also stops me from feeling guilty when I do splurge twice a year ✨
If you don't mind used books, check out your used bookshops, they usually have a coloring section. I also use places like Thrift Books, World of Books, Book Outlet to hunt for coloring books. It also makes it fun to flip through to find what has been colored and see if I can fix it. Most of the time maybe 1-2 pages have been colored, most of the time they are brand new. The worst was A Million Unicorns, with about half the pages scribbled on by a child. 😂 But I salvaged about 25 pages, not bad for $3. So try used bookstores, thrift shops, garage sales! I had an amazing haul from an estate sale once. RIP to them, but their Hannah Karlzon, Maria Trolle, and a couple of Japanese artists found themselves a good home where they will be much appreciated. It made my day! 😊
I’ll need to try a used bookstore! I’ve looked in op shops before and unfortunately we don’t have a very good selection here in Australia 🥲 But that’s amazing that you’ve found so many goodies 😍
I bought my T’Gaal sharpener as well because of Sarah Renee Clark’s video - I LOVE that sharpener. My only complaint is it’s a little tight for sharpening thicker pencils like Derwent and especially the Albrecht Durers.
You are slowly convincing me I really need to get one of Rita Berman's travel books! I was colouring in Magical Jungle while watching this video (after not colouring a ingle page since I got it 😬), I too have Johanna as my majority illustrator. For the Inktense you could get a couple of open stock of colours you'll use the majority of - I got some Polychromo and Chromoflow greens this week to see which set I'd like to save up for
Yes Rita Berman’s travel books are INCREDIBLE. I can’t wait for the next one when it eventually comes out. And I love that you were colouring in Magical Jungle whilst watching this. Maybe it’s a sign I need to get it too? Haha ❤️
Rita's books are AWESOME, ! Their my favorite. And now after coloring in that size book, that's al, I want to color in lol. SHE actually has one that is a mixture of all of hers, except for afrika (my fav!)and asien . I can't remember the name because it's not in English, but it would be good one to get , that way you get alittle of all the seasons I. One book! Trust me you won't e disappointed! I'm also hooked on Nice Little Town books. And their only about 6 bucks! Adorable pics! And Coco Wyos Spooky Doll. Their both done with Amazon Paper. Love the artistos and prismascolors. And if use watercolor , I use ohuhu blendermarkers instead of water brushes because it will buckle the paper if your not careful with reg water.. great with markers too
@@staceygraves4587 thank you for all these recommendations! I’ll definitely check them out, especially using an ohuhu marker for watercolours, it sounds like a great idea 🤩
I also always wait for sales. My first set of pencils was a Faber Castell red (for children) that I got from the back to school isle, but then I got 100 intense for €122 (that's less than the price for 72), and 60 Albrecht Durer for €54 (less than the price for 36). I just had to wait quite a while to be able to get them... (a year in the case of the AD ones). But I'm patient, and at least now I know that if my colouring sucks, it's not the supplies. Also, I noticed that the French versions of the books are always much cheaper and on similar paper (at least on Amazon Spain), so I get the French versions. Also have a whishlist, and I have noticed that at some point e.g. Hanna Karlzon and Maria Trolle have at least a book at a much lower price vs. the regular one. I got my Dutch editions (usually much thicker paper) for under €10. Probably this won't work in Australia, but for people in Europe it can be amazing.
Awesome video! Just wanted to key you know you might want to wait to get the Inktense pencils until the full 100 set is available here. I bought the new extra colours individually online from the UK and they are some of just fave colours in the set. If you’re going to make the investment you might as well get the full set, right!? Europa is one mod my all time fave books! Boulea de Poils is gorgeous!!! You should totally get it!! Also Grains of Gold by Hanna Karlzon is a compilation of pages from a range of her books! It could be a good place to start! 🩷 Enjoy your goodies when they arrive. Also colouring supplies can be much cheaper in Aus not on Amazon, so have a look around online. You can get good deals.
Thank you so much for all the recommendations! I’ll definitely be wanting the full set of Inktense when I eventually take the plunge! I’ll have a look at Grains of Gold too 😍
This was so fun to watch! All great choices! I think setting a spending budget is such a good idea...it is way too easy to overspend when it comes to this hobby 😂 I love Enchanted Earth and A Million Baby Animals. I hope you enjoy your new books and supplies 💕
yess i also use karma to email me when prices drop and i use swagbucks extension to redeem for giftcards for amazon which i get by accumulating points from either shoppin on other websites likes walmart or ebay or aliexpress and a bunch others or from doing daily tasks. rn ive a 10cad amazon ca giftcard to use and a 5cad one. this prime day sale didnt have that much stuff i wanted on sale so i only got 2 things non coloring related. i also have that witches coloring book i got the bind up of 3 in 1 (which turns out cheaper in the long run if u plan to buy all 3 individually) like a month ago and ive been coloring on it non stop with markers (which i hadnt been using in a long time) so rn i dont plan to buy any new coloring books bc ive just been coloring in this one and havin fun. some of my ohuhus that ive been using on these colorin pages are drying which sucks.

I’ve definitely had my eye on RJ Hampson! And I totally agree Matchstick is absolutely adorable. I’ll definitely have to give his books a try sometime ❤️😍
I am with you on the rules for spending! I love how everyone has different methods! For example, I'm don't allow myself to buy another coloring book until I've colored a specific number of pages. Currently the number is 3 times the number of books I have, and I currently have 4 books, so I have to finish 12 pages before I can get another. I'm so close! I'm a really slow colorist and have a lot of hobbies so it takes a long time for me to finish that many, so far this year I've only finished 9 pages, but I have 2 WIPs (one is a 2 page spread) that are both almost done! Picking which book to get next is so hard! There are so many amazing books! Last week I had a very dramatic Hannah Karlzon coloringbook showdown! I watched flip through of all her books and made a tally of how many pages I liked. But there was a tie between Spirit Animals and Grains of Gold. To break the tie I watched flip throughs again but this time gave each page a 1 to 5 score and totalled the scores, and can you beleive it? THEY TIED AGAIN! So to try and break that tie I counted how many pages in each book got a score of 5 and finally got a winner! But it was really close still, Spirit Animals got 28 and Grains of gold got 25. And then... sometimes I break my rule.... my husband gifted me Mythographic Wild Summer last month as a late birthday gift, and this morning I bought Kerby Rosanes Kaliedomorphia (a compilation book of all his best morphia pages) because I already have Colormorphia (the other morphia compilation book) and it is their devine right as 2 sister compilation books to be together. Two parts of a whole! Basically, one book! And! I'll basically have everything worth having from ALL his morphia series in just this "one" book! Sorry I always leave such long comments, it's just such fun to talk about coloring! I can't help myself!

@MyStarseedColoring oh man yeah that would take forever if you did it how I did. I'm hoping this method will lead me to finishing books as I build my collection. It also gets me actually coloring!
