- Zarif Khan, better known as “Hot Tamale Louie,” arrived to the U.S. in 1907 - 40 years before his home country of Pakistan was even formed. He was known for his cooking and his generosity, so much so that his reputation earned him a statue in his hometown in Sheridan, Wyoming. Now his descendants have created a new business empire: hotels.
AJ+’s Tabish Talib traveled to Wyoming to uncover the history of Hot Tamale Louie and how so many Khans chose Wyoming to be their home.

This is a beautiful story. I'm not surprised that a lot of people came to support the Khans when they built that mosque. I was in Wyoming for a summer and I found residents there to be really kind and they didn't really care about much as long as you don't bother them. It's good that they came to their support. Most Pakistanis I've met are great people. Sure every bunch has a few bad apples, but generally speaking, I have nothing but love for Pakistanis. Respect.

Taken out by a jealous relative. That’s how life is for most people. No matter how good you are someone close to you is gonna betray you
I’m from Pakistan my great grandfather was a barrister who studied in Oxford he was offered a position as a governor for his reputation of helping the poor but few days after that he was assassinated by being poisoned
Jodice Edwards . you voiced my feelings . that’s what I was going to say : its always someone near and dear to you who may strike you out. Thousands of such tragedies occurred especially in our culture where prominent and promising family figures fell victims of jealousy . Few years back five members of well todo family including their servant were murdered in very posh area known as Behria Town Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Their gruesome murders were carried out by a couple of hired assassins from Afghanistan. Unfortunately it was all done by a nephew of that family head who had freshly returned from Australia and owned some valuable properties in Behria Town. The nephew thought he was going to inherit all of his maternal uncle’s properties including cars if he could eliminate the entire family. This is how the saying: he bites the hand that feeds him!!!!

In my town in punjab a guy murdered a man for the piece of land who came from back from Britain to visit and that man was an imam and a islami scholar in Britian

The subjects of this video itself are divided in race and religion my friend, if it hadn't been that way they would be righteously and simply addressing themselves as Indian Muslims and not pakistani immigrants, pakistan was born 40-50 years post the first man who immigrated from the indian sub continent whose statue they were celebrating.

I am sure Mr. Zarif Khan seniors bones may be trembling in his grave because when he migrated to USA somewhere around 1909 the idea of Pakistan was never thought of, it was only until 1942 that a thought of Pakistan started gaining prominence and I am sure before 1942 Mr. Khan reached his grave which now makes me wonder this entire video is propaganda by his future generations on a false notion.

The Khan family belongs from a small village in Chach called Bara. The Pathan tribe they belong to is called Alizai. It wasn't just Zarif Khan who was killed but with his nephew Jahan Khan who also was killed who tried to save his uncle from being killed.
@ꫝarry K chach tribe??
Chach is an area not a tribe.
Some Hindko speaking people r Pathans also just because there ancestors stopped speaking pushto dosent mean they are not Pathans anymore. U r what u r by blood not by language or area.
Never heard about them. it's a great feeling to know!
Thanks for sharing this amazing story
This is what I respect of Americans
They are nice people issue is with US policy.
Accepting people from around the world with different back ground and religion is actual democracy.
As a Pakistani who is huge western movies fan, this is so fascinating. I would never thought Pakistanis to be in Wyoming.
Western movies doesn't depict the real America
@@arminius6506 my point was different.
Fascinating story, thanks for sharing
Lovely little gem of a story! So many inspirational stories of real people scattered all throughout this country. Thank you for highlighting this one.
Very nice story and video ,I will visit Wyoming soon in shaa Allah
Amazing story. Will definitely have to visit Wyoming now. Thanks
Love from India 🇮🇳🇮🇳
This was absolutely brilliant. Thankyou for making this documentary 🔥💯👌
You see. If American Government had public schools actually teach the actual history of America, we would know more about this stuff. But no we have school that teach there was never slavery only “ African Migration “, native willingly gave the government land and were treated well, and most people are never taught about Japanese internment camps, civil war, the constitution, or even government structure. It sad
If you start reading current affairs properly than it will be a great Great favour for rest of the world

Great contribution by a great Pakistani. Salute
Amazing story, I wish they reopened Hamburger Louie's and made it a chain of hamburger places, I'm sure it would thrive
There are both good people and bad people everywhere, where some people bullied them and showed discrimination, at the same time many people supported them and were friendly.
They are Khan ? They are Pakhtoons ❤. We Pakhtoons prefer living in less populated areas and alone.
For those of you calling him Indian because Pakistan was not created until 1947, it’s because the place that he’s from is Khyber pakhtunkhwa which is in present day Pakistan so therefore he’s considered Pakistani by National !
Great video, thanks to Khans and their forfathers how start living and work hard to get good name. Love ❤️ from Connecticut USA.

The more and more I learn about the history of the US, the more and more I learn that non-Caucasian folks are the ones that made the US so profitable and powerful. Between Indigenous already making the land habitable and showing how to navigate it, to Blacks toiling the land to build cities and produce crops, to Chinese building the railroad to ship those goods, etc. They did all of this in the face of adversity and death. There is an extraordinary debt for all of those folks that US has yet to pay back.
Wyoming....?
Dinosaurs , is the only thing that comes to my mind when someone mentions Wyoming.

Pakistani people are loving, caring & hospitable.
I served with a soldier from San Francisco last name Khan. One of the best soldiers ever. I wonder if he was related?? It's a pretty common name.
More than 55% of Pakistanis last name is khan
@@teamrocket7400 they're pretty nice people. I think they are underrated.
You know what? That soldier was actually Hindi.
@@bigtimepimpin666 Hindi is not an ethnicity or religion, it is mostly associated with language or north India(including Pakistan) Khan can not be Hindu because it is a Muslim surname. and as far as nice people, man, most people are nice, once you get to know them.
@@Reckless-mindfulness I mentioned he was Hindi because I remember he spoke Hindi. There were many foreign workers on American military bases in Iraq. Their employers would often take their passports which is illegal and very suspect. Khan spoke Hindi and found out about the passports and related it in a report to an American General. The passports were immediately returned to their owners. I never asked about his religion but it makes sense he was Muslim and honeslty, all the better. He was a hard working and highly professional man. He looked like he would blown into the next county if i sneezed on him, he was so skinny. He was not physically impressive. But I really respected him. He was also very modest. Hope he runs for president.

Zarif Khan considered him Afghan, not Pakistani. As did all Pashtuns living in the occupied Northwest frontier of British India before Pakistan was created
Loll.. no Pakistani Pashtun thinks this. They are proud Pakistanis like Zarif Khan was as his son told.
By the way he was from Attock which is in Punjab Pakistan.
Im a charsadwal pukhtun and i can confirm there is nothing like this😂
We are proud Pakistanis and a lot of our ancestors joined Pakistan instead of that sh*thole Afghanistan
Ghanam Bano I am also Pakistani Pashtun from Nowshera and I consider myself to be an ethnic Afghan whose lands became part of Pakistan. There is an article saying that he considered himself Afghan. His family considers themselves Pakistani now bc of political and identity changes among Pakistani Pashtuns. Also Zarif Khan was from Bara, Khyber Agency which is not in Punjab at all
Hasan I am also a Pakistani Pashtun from Nowshera. Our ancestors identified as Afghan for the most part even under the occupation of British India. It is only now after decades of brainwashing in Pakistan schools that Afghan identity has been erased(you are an example). Also we did not choose Pakistan. It just happened through historical circumstances that the British occupied our areas from Afghanistan, made it part of British India, and then later included it in Pakistan after partition
