Great going! I've been decaffeinated for years now, and I will never go back. I would get jitters, take on way too much then crash, have stomach issues, etc. My wife quit a few months ago, and it was rough. She realized that her day was structured around basically a coffee ritual.
She was having post acute withdrawal symptoms, and had to create a new routine that did not include "coffee time". She went through an emotional rollercoaster, but then the sun came out. It was great to see when things started to even out. She no longer has the crashes and mood swings that came with caffeine addiction, and overall things have been very positive. Just goes to show how powerful this drug is. Keep it up!

Some (anecdotal) tips for folks interested in this, from someone who's experimented with it a lot:
    - Cold brew has significantly more caffeine than a regularly brewed coffee, so it's no wonder Ryan had jitters.
    - Drinking caffeine on an empty stomach (if that's how Ryan had it) will make both the digestive and energy effects of caffeine happen much sooner and more dramatically. Drinking during or after a meal slows absorption down and smoothes the effect. On the flip side, some studies suggest certain nutrients don't absorb as well when paired with coffee, but probably not enough to be a serious health concern for most.
    - The headaches Ryan experienced may have been the classic caffeine withdrawal symptom, which from my understanding is caused by the expansion of blood vessels that were formerly contracted by the caffeine. You can reduce or avoid them by stepping down intake gradually.
    - A reasonable serving of hot brew coffee after a meal is a much gentler step down than going cold turkey. For some, this may be the ideal middle ground.
    - Drinking caffeine in the morning is best delayed a few hours after waking, since it can spike your raised cortisol levels in a way that could cause a crash later.
    - Sometimes it's worth swapping coffee for water. I used to get super tired after protein heavy meals so I drank a coffee to balance me out, but the real problem was I was super dehydrated and drinking enough water after my meal until needing to use the bathroom eliminated the problem.
    - Juicing replaces caffeine with sugar. Even a "good" sugar is still sugar. If you are active in the morning and not fasting (I fast until lunch) then you'll probably burn it off and all is well, but for those whose mornings are sedentary I would think about if you need that calorie boost then.
Ultimately I still drink caffeine once or twice a day, especially useful to offset the afternoon slump at work and before social events. I can go without it easily in the morning. While I may do an experiment like Ryan's again eventually, this doesn't have to be an all-or-nothing proposition. Also, good coffee can be made at home for a fraction of the price with a simple pour-over or French press setup, you don't need a $600 espresso machine.

Good job. You always have this effect when you successfully remove a poison from your life. I felt the same way with sugar. Better sleep, warm extremities and fat loss.

The psychological withdraw is the hardest part. Feeling like there is something missing from your life, like you are imcomplete without coffee. That's what makes people get back to it. It's an addiction. Why should we let a drug have this power over us? I'm trying to quit again and tappering off this time. Cold turkey is too hard and I can't work because I am too unmotivated. I quit many times but I get back to it because my caffeinated self is the person that I am more used to. Trying to quit again.

    • @BluBlu111
      @BluBlu111 2 місяці тому

Cold turkey works only for hardcore drugs. Coffee and weed are the only ones I can't cold turkey. Not strong enough myself for the psychological effects of quitting yet.

I quit 6 weeks ago, almost 7, because I need to support my thyroid and I knew caffeine was not doing me any favors. I drank coffee all day. I loved it. Never thought I could quit, but I am seeing all the same benefits you mentioned...finally good, deep sleep and dreams! I start the day now with L glutamine and aloe juice to heal leaky gut. I don't think it's good for anyone no matter what they say. There is a shop on every corner, so they aren't going to tell you the truth.

Hi. Thanks for sharing. That's really awesome. I learnt from this. I enjoyed the dog park part. I'm also interested in not becoming addicted to caffeine. I mostly try to have a cup or two or three of small cups of tea mostly in my morning time. That helps me. But I'm open to trying to reduce my tea and coffee drinking too. Thank you so much

I gave up coffee for a month a few years ago with the hope I’d see good benefits to my overall wellbeing. The first three days were hell on earth (including a constant headache), but after about a week I started to feel like normal. I didn’t feel any better though, I just felt the same as I did when I used to drink it. I just went back to drinking coffee like normal. I didn’t juice though, maybe that was my mistake.

I quit caffeine 2 months ago cold turkey after being used to having a couple of cups a day, usually an energy drink like Nocco as well. I luckily experienced only 2 days of headaches and extreme tiredness and then on 3rd day, everything was great and even better than before. Just like Ryan later in the experiment, I feel my energy and mood are very consistent throughout the day and personally it also made it easier to handle days after night with not enough of sleep.

There is so much scientific evidence that coffee and tea are healthy and beneficial I don’t get the notion of not consuming them unless you don’t enjoy them.
I personally would stop consuming coffee/tea as early in the day as makes sense to you.
    I shoot for 3 to 4 pm.
At 3 to 4 cups a day, I have zero problem not drinking it.
But, I really never think about caffeine, other than time restriction, which has way more benefits in a cost benefit analysis based on the science.

I think it’s different for each person. I only made this video for people like me who want to quit. I’m not trying to convince anyone. I quit coffee and pre-workout after I got sick with horrible fever this March. I focused more on sleep. I didn't intend to stop coffee and I still make coffee for my wife, so it was just a by product of my life. But I don't need coffee any more. I still have some sort of caffeine in the form of cacao powder maybe 35mg a day or something. Nonetheless, I don't need caffeine anymore, I try to get at least 7 hours and on most days can work out twice a day without caffeine.

I once tried "quitting" by which I mean gradually reducing my coffee intake until I could go a full day without withdrawal symptoms (ie. headaches), something which I hadn't been able to do since I first started drinking coffee (except maybe a few times when I was sick for extended periods of time and just forgot to have any). It took a few weeks. Then I slowly picked it back up again, because it's one of the few sources of joy in life. I don't normally have any within the first 1-2 hours after waking, anyway.
