I actually watched the clip on the jd jetting tmx jet block repair. Forget about tuning the tmx comes with multiple defects from the moment it was made. From a business point of view KTM skimped on the carburetor due to the expense of developing EFI. Prior to TPI The TE and Xc-W should have had smart carbs or lectrons from the factory. Development goes in 2 directions. 1st you have to cater to the no talent ass clown that cannot learn how to tune (buy it and ride it) 2nd you have the serious racer that starts with a production bike and sets up a bike around their style. 1 friend calls it, "getting 1 bike for the price of 2!"

It also depends on which colour power valve spring the bikes have. And where they are adjusted at.
My 2022 KTM 300 XC TPI never ran proprtly from day 1. No one could figure out the issue.
It seized at 7.2 hours. All 100% stock and no racing. KTM replaced the piston, cylinder & crankshaft.
I got the bike back with 7.4 hours.
Still showing 7.4 hours it seized a 2nd time.
KTM put a new crate motor & new oil injection pump in it. Per KTM's instructions the dealer put 50:1 premix in the fuel tank & they put 0.9 hours on it.
I got it back and ran so much better immediately and still does.
After some hours on it I put a Slavens S3 head on it, a Coober ECU & turned the air bypass screw from 3.5 turns out until it ran best at 2.0 turns out.
It is now amazing at all rpm's, throttle positions and goes instantly like a scalded cat and also pulls like a tractor at super low, maybe below idle speed.

I am now trying the red and stock yellow PV springs and adjusting them. The red reduces the hit and alllows the bike to lofts the front end (no clucth use) so much easier for slower obstacle crossings like over a small hole, tree branch on the trail, over rock,... or just having fun, as is easier to control for a low level rider like me. But the yellow spring is a hoot and laugh when I yank open the throttle and I better be hanging on. LOL

My 2023 300 XC-W is flat out amazeballs, I still need to switch to mousses but I can't imagine anything better for how and where I ride. Crazy to think that it can get better, interested to see what they do with the XC-W's next year if anything at all. I do still prefer the PDS in the technical stuff but linkage doesn't hold you back at all with a proper skid plate with linkage guard. Thanks for the comparison video, excited to see where it goes from here.

Hoping to move to Utah in the next 4-5 years so hopefully it won’t be a forever struggle haha. In regards to TPI, I have a 2022 te300i and I only got back into riding about a year ago and I think it has perfect power and throttle response for my skill level. I thankfully haven’t had any of the common issues with it and it runs great for me most of the time. And by the time I get a new one down the line, I’m sure TPI will be long in the rear view mirror.

Riding with stock tubes is like asking, no, begging for a flat, I'm curious as to why you would choose 40 to 1 when the highly educated and experienced factory engineers recommend 60 to 1 and have exact and precise reasons for that ratio why deviate from it, I've ran the recommended 50 to 1 in my 300 for many years and am amazed at how well my engine has held up to whatever abuse I subject it to, I'm not saying your wrong, I would just like to know your reasoning for that besides the more oil is more protection theory as modern oil and internal engine surface technology has come a long way.

    • @highlandcycles
      @highlandcycles  Рік тому +20

Great question. First, I think your bike calls for 60:1 one also. At least every 300 I have owned calls for that. But anyway, There is a lot of science showing that more oil equals more power and better lube up to a point. I have run 40:1 in everything I own (chainsaws included) and never had a failure because of oil in gas. They all spooge a little but I don't care about that at all. As far as the people at KTM, I don't completely believe that they have my pocket book in their best interest. Maybe a conspiracy? Too much oil in the gas (again up to a point) never hurt anything and if anything lubes better which would make stuff last longer. And finally I have a FLEET of bikes that run 2 stroke gas. All call for different ratios. Some more oil than 40:1 and some less and I will be damned if I am going to keep 4 or 6 different cans of gas around and try to keep them straight. 40:1 in all of them and they all run well.

You mentioned your buddies bike had wicked bottom & has an RK Tek Head.
Well RK Tek makes different heads. It’s entirely possible he had RK head built for a guy who rides 1st-3rd single track some which would be built for bottom.

There is no NEED. just like there is no need for power in a muscle car. It’s just fun. Now more torque is a different thing. More torque can make a bike easier to ride for a lesser rider. I raced a 125 all last year at 46 years old and 185 lbs. I’m an “A” rider and I can tell you that bike took a ton more work to ride through the gnarly hard Enduros than a 300. The power of the 300 makes it easier. We live at 6k elevation so our bikes are all down on power from their sea level brothers and sisters so to try and gain that back seems pretty reasonable. Just my opinion.

The new bike seems super sweet! Love the enthusiasm for sure Morgan. I still like linear power of a TPI and I've put hundreds of hundreds of hours on all my TPI bikes with zero issues. Being able to get a super hit down low is not a turn on to me. Being able to lug and grunt with no wheel spin is where it's at. With my TPI's, I concentrate on my conditioning, bike set up and suspension. Those three items are key to successful beast rides.
Morgan, I've been riding with Tubliss for a while and like them especially for the lightness. Are they not any good for you? Just wondering.
Thanks again for another super awesome straight from the heart vid.

I don’t get along with Tubliss at all. Too many flats and too complicated compared to foam. The new bike is the best of all worlds. Linear power in easy mode and crazy power in the go map!

Even the 2021 XC feels faster than the 2021 XCW. The mapping is a lot more aggressive on the XC. I’d like to see a comparison against a 2021/2022 300XC.
