A treasure to love, hug and hold at any age! Like an older sister(I'm only 67 now) she's always been a part of my mental 🎶 🎵 family for well over half a century! . . . , whatever !
@caribman10: You give what you get. I always loved Toni too but to stay in a marriage for 40 years and divorce at 74 years of age?!?! It wasn't just Daryl with the issues.
The song "Dance" was written and released as a 45 single by Paul Jabara in 1976. In 1978 a jazz duo changed their name to Paradise Express and jumped on the disco bandwagon and released their version of "Dance" using Two Tons O' Fun (Izora Armstead & Martha Wash) as the background singers. Would have been interesting if Toni had done a medley of "Dance/Can't Stop Dancing". You can get some of these 70's variety shows on dvd now- Capt. & Tennille, Sonny & Cher, Donny & Marie, Brady Bunch Variety Hour, etc. "Variety Shows" were to the 70's what "Reality Shows" are to this generation. EVERYBODY had one.
Oh man I had a crush on Toni Tennille in the 70s, when I was just a lad. She was ebullient, cute, and unapologetically herself. And those moves. Oh. This is a great behind the scenes glimpse, down to the model of the set.
Is fascinating reading up on Tony Tennille and watching some of these videos on UA-cam. She was highly underrated. For many years I taught Fitness classes at a local gym. The gym switched from freestyle aerobics to the Les Mills programs and you were given every quarter a new release to memorize. You had to memorize the 12 tracks of choreography to the music and be spot-on at any place in the music and of course it wasn't intricate dance numbers, it was just step aerobics. Cannot imagine the work that goes into producing a dance number like the one featured here. It used to take me hours and hours and hours to learn a new release. Guess some people are just gifted in that way with memorization and dancing. They make it look effortless and as Illustrated here Toni has to sing or lip-sync while keeping straight her dance routine. Quite impressive!
Yes it's like pulling teeth trying to figure out what and why. It's a sinking feeling. He's committed but WHY? I always feel like I'm ready to be sucked down the clogged drain and vanish. Or just evaporate like humidity from the air. Anyway I think I know how you feel.
yep, they all had just one. they knew when to not overdo it. they were also under time constraints and deadlines and show schedules coming up , so no hard liquor, just beer.
I agree, and I also think she got a rather late start which worked against her. She was already in her mid-30s by the time “Love Will keep Us Together“ came out… I’m sure that didn’t help her marketability.
Probably still has them. She sure is one tall drink of water. Has a beautiful voice. Sings like fire on the mountain. I enjoyed the Captain and Tennille albums. Still have them.
I think Tony Tennille is one of the sweetest ladies I’ve ever seen. I do have a question though some of these shows were really cheesy. For anyone who was an adult back then did they seem cheesy back then as well? And I don’t mean that to be a put down anyway I just mean it just seems very cheesy some of it.
@Uknown person from an another planet what?? who says that "Im sure the dancers may be gay or bi?" How in the world did you come to that conclusion? i really want to know.
That's what most people of her generation did. A lot of today's 78 yr olds stay in bad marriages. I think it was just the times and culture. That "Til death do you part" thing was very overrated. It's sad how many older couples I know who are still together but love between them left years ago. Maybe it's all the trouble of splitting up the material assets and finances, too. Idk, but for their ages & generation I don't find it surprising.
A relationship is something unpredictable and fragile between two people and can go through so many phases. The physical part can come and go. It isnt the whole enchillada... That doesnt mean you cant feel a deep friendship, spiritual bound and respect for each other...
@@dougk5 I can understand in the beginning of their career he was talented and the had success. I don't know why she stayed with with after the success went down.
Everybody seems to think that maybe Daryl was gay. However, I think the possibility exists that he may simply have been totally asexual and had zero interest in intimacy. Ironically, rumour has it that Toni is the one who's actually a closeted lesbian and has been secretly carrying on with a lover for quite some time now. If it's true, just goes to show you: the world is full of illusions and sometimes things aren't always what they seem to be.
Not really. She said that during the time she was with him, she was the most creative. If she was not with him, she would not have come out with those love song lyrics that she wrote, and wrote them really to try and get through to Daryl.
I feel bad for Daryl Dragon I'm sure he got blindsided by her with those divorce papers & never saw it coming... 39 years of living with a woman you love & then have her pull the rug out from under you at 75 years of age just seems so unbelievably cruel & cold...
I heard they divorced because of his health and the insurance aspect. They were close and she was at his side when he passed. I always liked them and sorry to hear of his passing.
She had the most appealing smile in all of show business!
And, at 78 years young, she still does.
You know that's so nice that you say at her older age now she is still nice looking. Means your a nice Man. Bless your heart.
@@deb4735 I agree with David. She's incredible all around, not unlike Ann-Margret. I love her essence and vibe a lot too.
A treasure to love, hug and hold at any age!

The male dancers look so HAPPY!
Gay indeed.
So fun to see her do this song. I never realized how tall and leggy Toni was. Love!
i didnt realize back in the 70s 80s how stunning she was
Toni is drop dead gorgeous with the most beautiful smile ever!
What a beautiful, charming woman, with that splendid smile, that wonderful voice and also dances ... what more could you ask for? ...
Never could figure out why a woman as foxy and talented as her was with that human boat anchor. And man, what legs!
@caribman10: You give what you get. I always loved Toni too but to stay in a marriage for 40 years and divorce at 74 years of age?!?! It wasn't just Daryl with the issues.
i see what you did there... Captain...boat anchor clever
She’s tall! Dances so well. Wow!

much rather have a variety show than reality show any day. can't stand them.
Wow, this is SO 70's,..Love it!!!
She is such a beautiful woman!
She was super cool. I remember watching the show in the 70s as a kid.
She beautiful !!!

She's Awesome ! Xoxoxoxo
I have always had a crush in her. What a lady!
Love your smile!

Behind the scenes glimpses are fun! Thanks!
Great video. What a find!
I love both versions of this song...this one and the disco version by Sylvester and Two Tons of Fun in 1978!
I've been a fan 😁😀 for 25 years and ' I also had the same inspiration! as a singer ! When I found out that you were born in Alabama wow!!!
Toni`s dancing is greatly attractive!
Toni is absolutely gorgeous on the inside and out.
This was fun to see. Whoo! Lol
good stuff...would love to see more variety show docu clips
Here. This one should be right up your alley. ua-cam.com/video/v8KyMdBvBQc/v-deo.htmlm18s
Her right index finger @ 2:27 (when she was a child, part of her right index finger had to be amputated after a wheel barrel accident)
I'm so happy to say, I have a lady in my life with a gorgeous smile so similar to that and shortness of chin.. such a cutie!
Awsome! A pity, it was only for the TV though. It should be released on record!
Even as a kid I thought the captain was odd. Yes you can be with someone all those years and they don't say I love you

True story. 👍
Tax advantage.
Check out Tennille on Fantasy island (show from the 70s-80s) too on season 3, episode 7. I just love her energy and she is so talented.
look bothss de plane! de plane!
Thank you❤
always had a crush...
show .....lindaaaaaaa
She did NOT like to dance. But but boy she did it. 👏👏👏
All the dancers went for a beer in West Hollywood after the rehearsal.
yep, they all had just one. they knew when to not overdo it. they were also under time constraints and deadlines and show schedules coming up , so no hard liquor, just beer.
@Xcuze No cubs?
That lady in red ♥️
DANCE!
Toni's talent and potential was undermined and restricted by the goody two shoes image. She gave us a lot but could have given us much more.
I agree, and I also think she got a rather late start which worked against her. She was already in her mid-30s by the time “Love Will keep Us Together“ came out… I’m sure that didn’t help her marketability.
I wonder what she did with all those beautiful dresses she used to wear.
Probably still has them. She sure is one tall drink of water. Has a beautiful voice. Sings like fire on the mountain. I enjoyed the Captain and Tennille albums. Still have them.
...Toni looks SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Good!! ...I'm SORRY; I cannot FATHOM why Daryl wouldn't want to RAVAGE this Woman...I do.. and, I'm GAY! (4:05) ..ha-HAA!!
Ouch 🔥
Ah, the classic phallic haircut. Love it.
She's a live wire, that one!

No this was like The Sopranos or Avatar.
It would be nice to name the dancers. No one ever does. Bums me out
The Captain didn't have to worry about any of those 'dancers'😅 stealing his Hot Woman😍 when he wasn't around.
I don't think he was even slightly concerned, much less worried. He didn't seem to care for Toni at all, very sad.
@Uknown person from an another planet what?? who says that "Im sure the dancers may be gay or bi?" How in the world did you come to that conclusion? i really want to know.
@@harpoon_bakery162 buy some glasses
Old people watched their TV show back then. That's kinda what their act was about: young entertainers for old people.
So what was "the Captain" doing at this time?
Hitting himself with a belt.
3 sides to a story his, hers and the truth!
She looks like Sutton Foster.
Tommy Shaw.

The Juul Haalmeyer dancers were much better. And, the male dancers here and w/ Jules were NOT Gay.
I was thinking of the Juul Haalmeyer Dancers, too! OMG
Friends with that guy on fb. Not sure he's ever answered me once.
She said he's emotionally barren then why she stayed with him for 39 years?

She though that she could change him . That by loving him he could eventually love her .

someone thinks he's steve mcqueen
I'm convinced that Daryl was Gay.
@rob yohn Darryl had the personality of white wall. I've never understood what drew Toni to him. Toni is so personable and Darryl a stiff board
@@dougk5 I can understand in the beginning of their career he was talented and the had success. I don't know why she stayed with with after the success went down.
I was thinking maybe he was depressed. to think he got to share a bed with T.T is a heck of a thought.Lucky guy.
I think he was autistic.
@@dougk5 He had a really cool hat though, can't fault him for that...
I think this lady got confused and taken advantage of.
no one has breast implants or botox!!!!

'Rumor'...completely 100% WRONG!!
TOTALLY INCORRECT!
Or they're both gay and developed the Captain/Tennille personas as an elaborate satire of heterosexuality.
She could have made it without Daryl!
Not really. She said that during the time she was with him, she was the most creative. If she was not with him, she would not have come out with those love song lyrics that she wrote, and wrote them really to try and get through to Daryl.
