Plz start to review games for few hours on consoles thats where most games sell
I like focus home
And I'll take 1080p 60 over 4k30
Nooo shill up you are not good at gow combat 😭 plz try gmgow instead of normal
Normal is not gow
Gmgow is gow
I get it you only play shitty games like destiny again and again not good games like gow sad
ACG and Luke Stephans both recommended no .. ~ Shill up. STRONGLY recommends lol ~ weird seeing variations. while shill up dislike JUDGEMENT game ( yakuza spin off ) which was Beautiful Court drama game i've played yet. Shill up i dont know what to make of u ~
Good review regardless i'll wait for sale on this.. Darktide and GunGrave Gore is where my money at.
Honestly, games like these aren't made anymore and i'm hella glad that the devs are keeping these sorts of games alive. Salute.
????? It's just copy pasted God of War combat lolol
@@bakersdozzzen6553 so what. God of war hasn't copyrighted that combat
@@jhevier you're absolutley right. Yet this game gives me "castelvania/dantes inferno" copy god of war combat but exceptionally worse game vibes so
@@bakersdozzzen6553 OK ? Don't buy it then, nobody is telling you to do so
@@bakersdozzzen6553 where the problem?
I love it. Not every game has to be a AAA mind blowing story masterpiece. Sometimes a game just has to be fun and a blast to play. We need more like this.
this game is better than 95% AAA titles released in the last 2 years in my opinion. AAA doesent mean anything anymore really, most of them are bug ridden alpha releases with predatory monetization. Evil west completely nailed what its trying to be and its not afraid to be just a video game. :)
Yes, a game that sticks to what gamers are there for...to PLAY and enjoy the game. Like, don't get me wrong, having games be so cinematic nowadays is nice and all, but I buy and play games to actually play them, not watch them. When the story becomes so intrusive that majority of the time I'm barely playing and more of just pushing forward on the Control Stick, then that's poor design, in my opinion. Though, some folks like that I guess.
Same.. it has so much flavor..the setting..the combat is great!!
The only thing ,mind blowing about AAA games these days is how broken and unfinished they are at launch.
Is like they tryin to outshit each other. See who can release the biggest unfinished piece of garbage and get away with it.
@@XDarkEcho IMO it's fantastic that gaming has broadened so much. like, video games are just interactive digital media. they SHOULD include cinematic storytelling masterpieces, heartwarming experiences of friendship and camaraderie, goofy colorful nonsense for kids, serious-minded collectathons and spreadsheet-based RPGs, text-based adventures, complex puzzles, terrifying horror escapes, and....fuck yeah, gorgeous high-octane smash-em-ups. i'm so stoked to pick this game up
What I most love in AA games is that it's literally the AAA of past generations but polished, stable and bug free.
This needs more polishing.
@@IskenderCaglarM41B441why do you say that ? ... its very linear ,has repeat enemy's but itvworks perfectly and is a real blast and so much fun , so what's your complaint ! 😉
@@mikegraham8319 It's repetitive. And no it doesn't work perfectly. Towards to middle of the game it already gets boring, game has nothing new to offer at that point yet it still goes on and on and on...
@@IskenderCaglarM41B441I found it rather fun. As the story progresses you’re introduced to new weapons and abilities to further enhance combat. Whenever it seemed that things were getting boring, they add a flamethrower, gatling, crossbow and more.
Personally, I’ve never been bored long whenever I’ve played Evil West. My only complaint is that multiplayer can only be done with friends.
This game is absolutely not bug free in multiplayer
As a minor note, there actually is a mission select option, it's just hidden away in a confusing spot. Under the "Lore" tab in the game's pause menu, there's a section that lists collected items in each mission. You can return to previous missions there. Not sure why it isn't made more obvious that this exists.
Whoa wth? Thanks so much for this comment
The AA scene is so good this year. I HIGHLY recommend Soulstice, another straight up character action game with no bullshit, a good story, and really fun combat. I even more strongly recommend it if you like Berserk because there's references everywhere.
Man Focus Home has been doing great with this and Plague Tale this year
Yeah I've been loving Soulstice
2 other promising AA games to lookout for are Ravenbound and Bramble the Mountain King both set in dark M rated medieval Nordic fairytales.
The plot is whatever, but it nails the old school early 2000s hack-n-slash gameplay real nicely. The art direction is nice though, not groundbreaking but definitely well delivered for a AA game.
I've been looking at that on the xbox store. Imma take up your recommendation, especially since it has berserk references
This is the most 7/10 energy I’ve ever seen in a game, and I mean that as a complement
I would agree with you on principle but considering how good it apparantly run for him, in this day and age (sadly), I would put it at a 8
How about a 9/10 on what is trying to do ?
Looks really high quality 9/10
If that's a compliment, then I am Lebron James.
4 outta 10 but shill up isn't known for intelligence.
Just a fun, honest-to-goodness video game. The EXACT thing I was hoping for
solid 6/10
@@kushjones14888 8.4 user score for PC
@@kushjones14888 At least a 7
@@jasonalv7436 I can agree with 7.
Honestly I'm so grateful for developers like Flying Hog, because even if not every game they make is perfect, we need those AA experiences. They are the only thing keeping good ol' gaming alive in a time where games are not allowed to be just that anymore: games.
So, thank you to the devs for creating actual games and in this case a really good one as well.
I'm so glad it turned out good. Saw the trailers and was hyped, it looked like regular good old fun. And as you describe, it's exactly what it is.
idk really, luke stephans literally says everything oppositely to this review, something is off
I dont know where the positivity is coming from. This is bargain bin 6/10 trash. The epitome of AA trying to be AAA by trying to copy God of War and not understanding why it was good.
@@clay180 correct this game is as generic as it comes i was let down but it is cool in small bits
Here we go... will you dweebs give it a rest? 🙄
I see most of the comments saying it's bad/trash. You might be right. I don't know, the graphics looks good, looks like a generic shoot-everything-that-moves game. I don't have high expectations of it, I just think it looks like a regular fun shooter game, without too much thought put into the storyline, just action - and that might be alright
I’ve seriously been missing 10 hour action games where cutscenes feel like a reward for pushing forward. I’ve been looking forward to this game for a long time. Now to finish Ragnarok so I can give this one some play time.
man the whiplash I got from watching Gmanlives' review vs this one is intense. Most notably the differences in opinion on graphic quality/performance. It is nice to see 2 very different opinions by 2 reviewers whose word I default to in gaming. Hard work as always, well done.
@@sgt.thundercok4704 How powerful is the thunder of your
Yeah seriously gman shat on this game and i guess maybe he was expecting to get blown away from this game
@@sgt.thundercok4704 yeah just buy every single game out there and dont watch any reviews ever again. Great advice thundercock
@@sgt.thundercok4704 Gotta gauge a purchase decision off of something. Trailers, steam reviews, video reviews, corporate reviews, aggregate reviews, everyone's going to pick something to check before spending their money and time on a game. UA-cam reviewers are nice because you can get a sense of what they like in a game and why. Personally I find it a lot easier to trace SkillUp's reasoning for a recommendation than an aggregate saying a game is a 7.632 out of 10 from 13 reviewers whose game preferences I don't know.
@@sgt.thundercok4704 before you’ve played it? Yeah I don’t have the money to be that condescending
I remember seeing the early trailers for this game and saying: "how is nobody talking about this, this game looks *sick*...". Glad to see it get such positive reception just before release
Evil West reminds me of Darkwatch on PS2. Not genre defining but a fun ass fun video game. The fact that they have almost the same premise of a dark wild west is just a coincidence lmao
OMG I was trying to rebember this game of ps2 during the review , here it is.
Except darkwatch was not good...Not in any way shape or form.
@@lutherheggs451 I played it on the xbox, I found it to be a enjoyable experience back in the day. I wish it would get a remake.
Darkwatch was great! Though, I will admit, it tried to take itself pretty seriously, despite how ridiculous it came across. Loved the alternate ending stuff too
i aint spending 60 on some mid game
I turned 30 yesterday and I’ve been telling all my friends around the same age that this is a game worth supporting cause it’s what we grew up playing it isn’t trying to be something it’s not it’s a fun romp through the west killing stuff and making you feel like a badass
I turned 30 on the 16th! I feel the same!
That intro synopsis is exactly what I want to hear. I don't need every game to try and be too much. Not every game can be Outer Wilds, Disco Elysium or Inscryption. We often need a good brain cleanser and I'm glad to here that is what we're getting here.
Glad you mentioned “Remnant from the ashes”here, this definitely reminded me of that game and I loved every minute of that one!
GOD I loved that game, and this scratches some similar itches.
Felt the same. Remnant from the ashes was some of the best coop time my friend and I had for a long time. Wish this had Co op as well.
@@Icemanz666 it does I believe
Remnant was soooo good bro. Too bad its so underrated. Even bought the dlcs. I want a part 2 ✊🏻
@@Icemanz666 it does, just checked steam.
Commenting at the start of watching just to say I'm really pleasantly surprised you've reviewed this one Ralph! I only learned this game even existed within the last week or so after seeing a trailer and thinking "Hey that looks pretty sweet"
I had such a blast with this game cant recommend it enough. Hope they make a dlc or a second game because there is so much potential to expand too
Darksiders. This has the feel of Darksiders and I have replayed that game on various platforms over the years. No innovation but frankly I don't want that in every title - simple but well executed is glorious. No live service garbage, no cash shops, no gambling crates, great stuff:) Thank you for putting this on my radar!
Had my eye on this game since it's announcement. It's great to see a fun game with no hidden bullshittery. Will definitely pick this up.
Just one eye?
@@dr.loomis4221 It isn't that special to him maybe.
At this point games that aren't out to shift the paradigm of art, but accomplish the goals it sets for itself are actually X factor. I'm in.
I just want to say, I greatly appreciate every time one of these videos comes out and you speak to how well it does or does not perform on Steam Deck. Thanks much.
he knows and that's why he does it
It's nice to see more games like this. The open world craze is getting old
Open worlds are full of busy-work. I agree, the concept is overrated
It's nice to see a game that limits your ability to move and go where you want with extremely obvious invisible walls and boring repetitive combat that devolves into the same one two combo to deal with everything making your entire arsenal and move set useless. All with the same jack animations each time and same bugs with said animations.
Yeah, it's great. 👍 👌
@@theexile4694 Yeah it's good ol' fun, nothing really horrid with that
@@theexile4694 And modern open-world games suffer from the same combat limitations, what were you trying to cook with this?
@@KBWrecker Concept is not overrated. It's awesome when it's done right but it's barely done right.
I love the Ascent, and have been really hoping for more games like it. That just feel incredibly good to play and slap a smile on my face from beginning to end. So refreshing to have more video game ass video games that get me nostalgic for 360 type fun. The facts that I can play with friends is a sweet bonus. :)
The closest thing to The Ascent is Warhammer Inquisitor Martyr. They just revamped it as well. Also Co-op with good gunplay and alot more variety
The Ascent was my game of the year, i recommended it to everyone I could. Loved the action/low fire system but also was a big fan of the characters.
@@Konfide4043 is Warhammer martyr on console?
The Ascent was fantastic. Loved everything about it
I loved it, but also couldnt finish it because of how repetitive the combat felt. They really nailed the aesthetic and music though.
Oh wow, I was not waiting a strong recommend for this. Excited to watch and hear your thoughts
That little gunshot sound at the end of a combat encounter is pulled straight from Gears of War with its bell toll sound, love it!
The game is absolutely fantastic! Not too deep a story, linear gameplay, cowboys, vampires, monsters, amazing scenery and stellar fighting action! I think they will make several sequels . It’s very different and I love it!
I am SO hyped that you enjoyed this game. I was really hoping that it would be exactly how you've described it!
This guy is one of the worst reviewers. He's not open minded. I wouldn't be surprised if he got paid to make it sound better than what it really is. Mostly other reviewers have been giving it 7s. It's nothing special
Do you base your enjoyment of games on whether or not SkillUp enjoys them?
Full of action, simple story, fun good old slasher. Somehow very refreshing to play. Just finished it and ejoyed it just as the author of the video.
Great review. Should be pointed out that it could use some work on PS5/Series X and performance mode isn’t really going to cut it on a 4K TV. But definitely on for this a few patches down the line.
Which is a weird choice if you ask me. Maybe they should just opt to 1080p/1440p to reach 60fps in a special performance mode? You aren't force to run at 4k, if many of the late xbox one X and Ps4 Pro performance comparison is any indication.
With tech like fsr2.1 around, I don't think they put in the effort so I will wait as well.
4K/30 i could accept if we also had 2K/60, but i read somewhere it was 1080p/60 which is a bit of a shame. maybe they'll up it in a post-launch patch. would be nice.
I highly recommend console players just play on fidelity....its solid and looks so much better
Been waiting for you to review this. Thanks for the heads up 🤟
I was not ready for this: what a blessing to get some SkillUp.
Very good review! Ya know what vibe I also got from this? This is kinda what The Order 1886 should've aimed for.
That game was panned for being just a campaign, nothing else, no PvP, no side quests, nothing. And while this game isn't shooting for an infinitely replayable impossible standard, it's still a deep enough experience to be meaty while it lasts.
And that's pretty neat.
The Order was the ultimate weekend rental. I really enjoyed it for what it was.
@@wild360 I loved it, but I do agree with folks that considered it a rental or wasn't worth full full full retail.
I got it on a flash sale for about 10 bucks, played through it twice, and definitely got my money's worth. Very sad more wasn't done to make it a franchise. 😔
@@RedShadowOfSaturn Same. For $60, it was hard sale. Like you I got it for $10 and platinumed it a couple of sittings. Unfortunately, this was supposed to be a more ambitious project that didn't happen so Sony tanked the studio.
Side quests are the most overrated part of gaming right now
@@Bloodynine606 When they're interesting and add features or systems or gameplay or world building or new characters or emotional stories, they can be great, nearly integral to an experience of a full game.
When the bulk of side quests involve "collect X berries" or "kill Y boars," for little to no real interesting reason or purpose beside giving a player a way point to follow and a task to complete as a vehicle for rewards, then yes, overrated garbage.
They need to be judged case to case. Linear games with no wiggle room can often feel too restrictive, but having wiggle just for the sake of it is worse.
I just have to say, I'm always really happy when you release a new video. Love your stuff and keep up the good work.
I like the idea that one level's elites are the next level's standard mobs. That's like what I consider to be the gold standard for ARPG challenge progression, the ancient and venerable Dungeon Master.
This is exactly the kind of game we need right now.
hell no you want to play these type of game go buy a xbox 360
@@_CrimsonBlade...... no.....

I kinda miss the PS2 and xbox 360 era. Games used to be... well just games, not a bullshit excuse to sell battlepass and micro transactions. AAA studios have gone toward such greedy business models in the last decade.
I love the look of this game so much. The only grip I have that I know will be too frustrating and distracting to me and my OCD is that the camera is waay too close to Jesse especially during combat.
I really appreciate your well thought out review. I only play one game but I just like how you put your words together so I also get to hear about what else is out there. You will be at 1Million subs soon.
I'm sub to you and GmanLives and it's hilarious how much you two diverge in opinion, I love it.
Your description is exactly what i was expecting and i could not be happier about it. I can’t wait to pick the game up and have a great time with it.
I'm so excited for this game! Can't wait to play it this week! It's like a mash up of Evil Within and God of War.
Omg.. I was hoping there would be a skill up review on this!
Been a minute since I've watched one of your reviews. I have no idea why, I love them.
I have been eagerly waiting for this game, hoping it would be a damn good time and here it is delivering exactly that! I for once did not think that it would be a “strong recommend” but, boy am I happy to see that :)
We neeeeed! We absolutely need games like these. Games that are just games! Not every game needs to be industry defining master works. AA games used to be that fun middle ground where you knew what you were getting and it delivers on that.
Thought this looked excellent but was hoping you’d review this. Definitely picking it up, thanks for your work!
the title alone makes me happy, i have been so hyped for this game, and to see that you love it aswell brings me so much joy!
Thanks, definitely my type of game.
Just picked this up on the PlayStation store for 40%off
After about an hour playing I'm really enjoying this. It's exactly what I need too. A fun game that is done well. Knows what it is trying to be and doesn't sell itself as anything more. My only complaint is the graphics options on current gen consoles. Surely with some FSR or other resolution trickery we could gen a higher resolution than 1080 at 60fps. Even the quality mode doesn't seem particularly sharp (Playing on Series X). Hopefully they can patch in sominthing to help.
I was watching a streamer play this game and I gotta say, the uppercut into the superman punch looks so cool.
Honestly Skill Up, your content was the best thing to come out of me playing the Division 1. Glad I found you, glad you are still as awesome as always.
I'm so glad this turned out well. I'd been keeping my eye on this and had been cautiously optimistic, so i'm really happy to go buy it and start it downloading whilst i take the dogs for a walk, after seeing this video. That's basically exactly what i wanted atm. Just a good time for a short while. Nothing too crazy or that i'd have to get really deeply sunk into... just something fun and intense i can play for a bit then go do something else.
Sounds like something to pick up on sale in a few months during one of those dry spell seasons. Has that “cult classic” potential, too.
this is going to be the next Killer is Dead, in terms of cult classic potential
If you need DLSS performance mode to get 60fps, then it makes sense the console versions are 1080p 60 as "DLSS Performance mode" is internally running at 1080p then upscaling to 4k .
this is a change; you are the only one saying yes to this on my feed right now!
This kiiiind of has a similar feel to GOW 2018. Obviously the energy is a bit different, but that combat really reminded me of how I played God of War. Even the punching looks like spartan rage mode
This sounds EXACTLY like my kinds of game! Sometimes you just need a great action game with good audio-visuals!
So glad this gets the Skill Up seal of approval. Can't wait to play it tomorrow!
This really comes across as the kind of game I loved back in my uni days and that's awesome because I've missed those games. A perfect example in my opinion is Psy-Ops which was a ridiculously fun game. I'll definitely be checking this out at some point in the future.
This game feels very old school in the best way possible. These type of games just aren't made anymore nowadays and it's so refreshing to see a developer not just make an attempt at it again, but firmly hit the nail right on the head. Can only hope this game inspires other devs and shows that not every game nowadays has to be an open world rpg with different gear rarities, etc.
This is the sort of game I'll come back to again and again. A 30-40 hour mega AAA game is usually a one and done, yet I'm already planning to go through all the difficulties on this one.
Exactly, after the end credits i immediately started NG+ on Evil. Been a long time i had such a good time with a game that i wanted more of it. Including GoW Ragnarok which was kind of a let down for me cuz it felt bloated and filled to the brim with uninteresting and boring stuff to do.
Cant wait to check it out, great review!
Hell yeah, this is exactly what I was hoping for! I was looking forward to this ever since you first mentioned it and I'm so glad it didn't fall flat
PS Plus January 2024 anyone?
Oh god this looks so good I'm in love. There was so few updates about it but now thay I'm looking at it it's got everything I could want. The graphics, the art design, the action. I hope it's somehow replayable(although it doesn't have to be) just like RE4
Looks like a game you’d see in store as a kid and getting it because the cover looks cool and it being a gem of your childhood-like vibes
Thank you for the review, always helps me get a feel for a game. How good are the PC port settings? Are there hard locked keys or are all keys rebindable? Is there unlocked frame rate or is 60 a hard cap? Thank you
I was literally waiting for this to show up today!!!😍❤️
Amazing timing Skillup!!!
This game looks superb
Wow...literally huh?
Ragnarok and now this? We have officially a very different perception of what a good game is.
This game looks really fun and I wanted to play it, but as someone who owns a Series S I will not be getting it if it runs at 30fps. I hate that games being forced onto next-gen are still running at 30 fps. The S is supposed to be an affordable choice that can run games at 60fps at least. It’s very frustrating because if games are going to continue to be 30fps or they will be excluded from the S then I just wasted $200 to load games faster and it just sucks
Was heavily looking forward to this. Glad it turned out well
Linear arenas, light puzzles and spectacular cutscenes? Damn I feel like I’d be an idiot to play this right after playing God of War: Ragnarok.
I had zero doubts it's gonna be a great one. a strongly recommend from you seals the deal.

Glad to hear that this game is fun. I was interested in it and will probably buy it sooner or later. I was looking for some fun game without any deep narratives nor trying to be groundbreaking.
This video game gives me big video game energy. Glad to see a video game is being made in the day of stores with gameplay.
The industry needs as many of these middle of the road titles as possible...right in between indie and AAA...Haven't had that since the 360 days
I just watched a few old Laymen Gaming vids. The news was old, but the entertainment was timeless. Wish you guys made some more videos together.

super excited to hear your perspective along with GmanLives. looks like both of you are opposite with opinions on this, but it's great to hear all sorts of things. thanks for the work!
Yeah, unfortunately the flaws he pointed out make it difficult to consider playing it for what good it offers. It is a combat game and it has issues with combat and enemies. If it was some action rpg where story sucked, it would not matter.
Gman apparently kind of hated it...

Now everything is an open world with nothing meaningful to do apart from collect junk and fight stuff. Linear games take out all the grind and get straight to the missions that are worth playing. Looking forward to getting this to support the Devs.
this game is straight up unoriginal and bad, how is open world worse
@@luluna5228 okay person who hasn't played said game
@@drlemon7729 75 score on oc and looks boring
@@luluna5228 I never said open world is worse. Open world just feels uninspired in many cases. I love many open world games but I miss the more focused games we used to get when they were linear. Crysis, fear, metro, dishonored, etc are good examples. If we took every critical score seriously then we wouldn't enjoy a lot of things...
@@seanb5933 not true, every game ive played has been score accurately unless it was a personal thing i had minus a couple. ratings are pretty accurate. having said that. you really want some linear boring game? literally goes both ways. people saying "we use to get so many tight amazing games" (i actually never have heard of that) , or people say " im so tired of empty open world " "im so tired of the linear gameplay" lol nobody ever talks about those games you mentioned anymore i wonder
I've never been more unsure about a game. Your review AND Gman's both seem very thorough and both seem to view some of the same aspects in very different ways. This may be a wait for sale for me (or Game Pass, fingers crossed), but it could end up feeling like a waste of time OR one of my favorite popcorn games of the last several years.
Watching yours and @AngryCentaurGaming back to back, love you guys. collab when?
Progress isn't recorded when you play with a buddy, only the main story holder will make progress.
i Played this at a local convention and can say, damn that game carried the convention on it's own, it's really good.
I strongly agreed with you about Weird West, and I strongly agree with you here, too. I reviewed Evil West for Entertainium and it's such a good time. One of the standout elements for me is the superb enemy designs - a real strong point for Flying Wild Hog, I think. For anyone wondering, the game took me around 12-13 hours to beat and there is an NG+ mode.
I've been religiously watching your content for years now and as a fan I would love to know how long it takes you to write these awesome scripts? I swear I take sales notes from how you craft your reviews. Much love brother keep up the great content. 👍
I'm so keen for this. Feels like it might be a nice change of pace.
I got this and liked it for the first few missions. Then the jank and repetitive enemies set in. It just throws tons of enemies at you to call it difficult like 3x the first boss later on. What started as a 8/10 ended as a 6/10. Really surprised SU recommended this so highly.
Also it cant decide whether its too easy or needlessly hard. Some areas would have the same goons coming at you for 5mins straight with no real rhyme or reason behind it. The game progression started really nice and I wanted to love the game but after the first few missions I grew tired of it very quickly. Tried to go back a couple of times and just got uninterested. Its very much God of War reskinned (really nicely) but not as good and gameplay is repetitive and sadly inconsistent.
Between this, Outriders, and Remnant, I'm starting to feel like SkillUp has a "type"
Aaaand wishlisted, thanks ShillUp! 👍
I missed these type of games... Simple and fun. What more do you need?
I hope you review Gungrave GORE next, cuz it does look hella fun too.
Sounds like its going for the same things as Binary Domain and I looooved that game.
Same here. Such a great game. I loved the setting back then.
