- We depart from my truck in Los Frailes and quickly become bogged down in sand, and steep hills on day one of this epic adventure. Ep 1 is just the beginning of one tough ride!
The Baja Divide may be one of the hardest bikepacking routes in the world. Last year, Eric Archer and I completed most of the route from San Diego California to the Southern part of the East Cape just South of La Paz Baja California Sur. This year we decided to pick up where we left off and complete the Cape Loop- a 250 mile loop, off pavement and often through very remote sections of beautiful Baja Mexico.

Fun times, but alot of Type 2 adventure for sure!
I'd have gone to 5.0 on the tires. It's not like you're moving fast anyway. A Schlumpf crankset would help on those climbs. I've never used one but I believe the Mountain version would have the ratio you need. They are a pretty penny though.
I wish it was the gears- I think more likely the engine. IE us! 🤣. I would definitely go with the fattest tires. Not sure how big you can go on the Wednesday though.
Are you able to ride side by sides on the divide trail ?
Yes, many parts of it. There are certainly some sections that are more single track though.
