Kate just wanted to say extra special thanks for keeping me on track, I was able to put enough money in my savings acct & pay off all my debt. I was laid off but don't feel so much stress knowing I still have extra money set aside. I really worked on decluttering my life & reducing my expenses. Amazing how little you actually need-realized this after moving across states multiple times.
Staying healthy is WICKED IMPORTANT as we get older. Most of us feel pretty indestructible when we’re younger, and it’s easy to allow bad habits to gain traction. Trust me, the older you get, the harder it is to change! 😬 I found out this summer just how expensive the emergency room is 🤯, so take care of yourselves, people!
I live alone and love it. I faced a cancer battle this year. I lost income from being out of work after surgery, but I am now cancer free! I just paid the $1150 bill to the hospital of what was not paid by insurance. I'm actually so glad to have paid this bill! I recently received a small inheritance, and I'm so blessed that I received it at the right time and didn't spend it on something frivolous. It is encouraging me to save and keep paying down debt and living within my means. Thank you so much for your advice and wonderful attitude.
I had a burst appendix a few years ago. The bill was $300,000 plus. My insurance was good, but I still had to pay very big bills. It was financially devastating but Im still standing thanks to the Good Lord!
When I got my first apartment not only did I accept hand-me-down furniture, I made the rounds of family members asking them if they had any extra household items they wanted to get rid of i.e. pots and pans, dishes, sheets, towels, etc. Everyone was excited to donate to my endeavor and I outfitted almost my entire apartment without buying a thing :-) Additionally, accept leftovers from meals with parents and grands and enjoy them again at your new place the next night.
I buy from grocery sales, yard sales, have a garden and eat leftovers. I also bought health, heart attach and cancer insurance when I started my full time job at 19…worked since I was 15. Also paid off my house before I retired….pay more than your payment if you can. Use your money to work for you
Hello Kate! Great video! I live alone and my tip is: I don't pay for a gym membership.I do my yoga with UA-cam and I go for a walk every day, enjoying different places in my city, La Plata, Argentina.🇦🇷💝
YES to high yield savings accounts! I discovered this a few months ago. I'm using an online account, need to do your own homework for the best place to save money. I am saving up for a newer car in a high yield savings account, and I'm am saving dollars a month in interest instead of cents in a basic bank savings account. Win! My credit union has some great options for certificate of deposits - I have 2 that have 7 month term and the interest rate is about 5%, so its important to think whether you can park your money for a few months or do you want access immediately. One perk of being single, if you don't feel like cooking supper - you can make a quick salad or even have a bowl of cereal :-). No one else to prepare a meal for.
When ive lived alone with no roommates, no partners, no family - I treated my abode as a sanctuary or retreat from the rest of the world. Of course this leads to isolation. Getting out into the world was important as was developing some casual relationships. Often i volunteered, visited the library at a relatively consistent day of week and general time, went to community events, etc... Something i see too many do is seek retail therapy be it the dress shop or grocery store for the social interaction and the warmth that comes with being a regular.
I agree with all of the above, most especially about having a cat.😉 that extra warmth, heart beat, having to take care of an another creature, can literarily keep a person from mindless shopping.❤
Early on in my life, I LOVED to shop for clothes. I wore them all in a rotation but I began to see I really did not NEED all the clothes. In November of 1989, I decided to challenge myself for ONE FULL YEAR to not buy one thing pertaining to clothing to see if I could just find different ways to style the clothes I had. After the one year mark, I lost my love for shopping for clothes and enjoyed recreating my style. Now that I am 74, I still find it fun just to shop my closet.
My hair appt. Have gotten so expensive. Doubled since the vid. I have stopped coloring and embrace the grey. I'm a senior I have grey, lots of grey. It's natural. I decided on a zero maintenance short cut, that looks fine as it grows out. My appts. are now 10 weeks apart.
Hi Melissa, like you I stopped colouring my hair. Mine is pure silver not grey. I don't worry about it. I have a pixie and can extend my cuts to 8 weeks. Embrace your natural colour.
Here's a tip, if you've got insurance make the most of it not sure about insurance through jobs but some State insurance is for the poor and disabled now give food allowances for fresh produce and over-the-counter allowances for things like vitamins and non-prescription pain relievers and things like that tricky thing is they won't tell you they do. You have to ask if they do and then you get access to those benefits.
I actually span out my hair dying throughout the winter months, since we live rural in the great white north, we don't get company in the winter months and I have a hat ,scarf ,or hood over it 90% of the time.
Back in the day before my days they had handbooks/ self help books for young secretaries and office workers which I read with fascination. They of course included a preference for skirts, blouses, sweater tops, and sweater toppers over dresses. The general formula was 5 blouses/ sweater tops, 3 skirts, 1 or 2 sweater toppers; minimum 3 blouses, 2 skirts, 1 sweater. And, lots and lots of accessories gather through the years and "styled" differently. In today's world, I would say look through the assorted capsule wardrobe references. I wouldn't particularly say stick to 2 or 3, neutral colors; although this is easier. A garment with a number of colors be they loud and bold or muted and throughout can be a foundation piece to a whole collection of mix, match, and coordinate. This said, a quality, classic style, basic dress or ensemble in black, navy, gray, etc....can act like a foundation to toppers (jackets, sweaters, over sized scarfs, etc...) that sticks around for several to many years. Let the toppers and accessories be the fast fashion. With a good foundation piece(s) you can even pick up toppers and accessories at yard sales, thrift stores, consignment stores etc... Shoes - A good fit is invaluable. But if you go for basic colors of a good fit in better quality and a classic style you can dress for upto years in every style and most every color of clothing. You don't need a pair of shoes for every outfit.
I hate cleaning. After doing it for so many years I’m just burned out. I got the bare basics in my house and that’s the way it’s staying! So much easier on me 🙂
Kate I got the callback last year after my first mammogram. Words can’t express the anxiety that surfaced waiting for all of the follow up appointments and the expenses that come along with it.?Ugh… fingers crossed things go better this year.
During the pandemic, I started reselling thrifted clothing, accessories and home furnishings online. Now I use what I buy for a short time and then resell it - usually for a lot more than what I paid for it. So I'm not only saving money, but actually making money. My average cost of goods is $5 and my average sale is $30. I sell about 60 items a month, so I spend $300 and sell $1800. After fees, I make about $1500 every month. Plus I get to enjoy shopping without guilt.
When i was single and renting, i had a mix of furniture. I had furniture i valued enough to move and i had furniture picked up that probably wouldn't move with me. The furniture selected to move with me generally folded flat or could be disassembled and "condensed". The furniture selected to move with me was generally physically lighter. (Only once did i have one of those metal framed hide-a-bed-couches. I had help carting it in, and gave it away to another second floor neighbor when moving out; they had to move it though.) I was a believer in cardboard boxes, coolers, and other alternatives covered with floor length drop cloths too; often over sized cloths in the form of sheets or drapes folded under at the floor. This let me move light and still have an end table, lamp table, coffee table, tv stand, and one time use a found workbench as a dining room table. It is FAR easier to do now a days but i always kept my eye peeled for curbside, alley way, and dumster finds. Many of these things were items i was willing to leave behind. Of these things, i was definitely willing to upgrade as soon as i found something better if had access to a dumpster. I also learned how to rewire/ fix lamps and do furniture hacks in this time frame. With the house, i put out the word that i was looking for free furniture. Be careful, i ended up with 3 couches of which 1 was not great and i couldnt wait to take to the dump. I began with an eclectic mix, turned a bedroom into a sitting room with couch, but avoided that hollow sound of empty rooms. This allowed me enough time to actually consider colors, styles, pieces, and more. For myself, i like real wood and found that furniture in the vintage and antique worlds was significantly less expensive than new from anything resembling a funiture store.
Two of us in the home. I cut his hair. The clippers paid for themselves in less than two cut. Takes me 15 minutes maximum with clean up. Also, no gasoline used driving to get it cut.
I'm in the process of starting a little homestead on my property which includes chickens, a garden, and a compost pile. I eat from my garden as much as possible and throw and veggie and fruit scraps in the compost pile to use later on. I also try like heck not to waste any food and reinvent leftovers as much as I can. Unfortunately, food waste does happen now and again... mostly fresh produce. These items make great treats for my chickens (trust me, they're not picky 😂) or I throw it on my compost pile, if possible! I may not have gotten to eat it but it certainly didn't go to waste 😊
I feel you on clothes thing. I love ❤️ charity shops. About a year ago, I found a superdry hoody easily £100 ($125). I got it for £10 ($12 58). Recently, I found a like new Ralph Lauren polo shirt easily £150 ($188). I got that for £7 ($8.81). xx
I added up how much I've saved over the years by colouring my hair myself. It came to over $10,000! Now I'm buying new living room furniture with part of that money.
I’m teaching my recent high school daughter how to budget with the cash envelope system with a savings and checking account. I am using all the great tips I learned here and from others. I’m hoping to help her start on the right foot, wish us luck. Thanks Kate for the positive reinforcement and ideas.
A picnic in good weather with friends this week reminded me of when we were all much younger and we had no money….but still managed to have amazingly good times. We had so much fun this week that we are going to do a picnic in the fall! And the best part: our friends could come and go, there was no restaurant where we had to wait for the check, and there was no check!
If I was living alone I would consider sharing trash & recycling service with a neighbor to halve that cost. Even with a bigger family we don’t fill our bin each week with the smallest size service our company offers.
I used to get my hair cut every other month at cost cutters- found a hairdresser there I loved & followed her when she moved salons. I had a cut that should be trimmed ever 4-6weeks- I usually went every 6-8 weeks. It beats spending 100+ at a regular salon. I use cash envelopes & when I don’t use all the money in my gas envelope it goes into the maintenance or registration envelope for later in the year- because I did this I have not had to work overtime to pay my registration in 8 years and had enough to pay for an unexpected tire set replacement plus my registration 4 months later & still had some gas money left. Now I need to build it back up.
For an assortment of reasons, singles often drift into an approach that meals should be made in single servings, tableware (dishes et al) only needs to be some mish-mash of onsies or paper, and that all one needs is a single pot and a single skillet. There are significant cost per serving and time savings using recipies which make 4 or even 6 servings. At the same time, having food storage containers for both the fridge and the freezer. Like any other kitchen which produces food, a good knife and cutting board are essential as are some of those appliances. Small spaces, places, and budgets call for select number and type of kitchen "stuff"; ideally things which are dual purpose, collected over time. When i was single, i never had a dish set smaller than a 4 piece setting as it a,llwed dish washing oncemler dsy and a guest(s), glassware for 6, and flatware for 8. I put a preference for eating at a table versus on the couch too; for a while there my table was a typing table but it was a table. As a single, i had a reasonable pantry with most items purchased on sale and also needed to do more of from scratch cooking 'cause its generally cheaper. My refridgerator freezer was critical for freezing portioned left overs and also fresh produce purchased in quantities too large to eat while fresh. When looking at rentals, the refridgerator-freezer was one thing i looked at and considered.
Hi Kate. I have to admit I haven't been on here for a while, been busy working, single mumming, you know how that goes. I just wanted to say a big thank you for all your amazing advice over the last few years. I've finished paying my mortgage and am now debt free. The skys the limit. A whole new world is opening up for me and my son.xx
JACKIE!!!! OMG OMG OMG! I'M SO SO PROUD OF YOU!!!!! And so happy to see you. It's been a bit, but you've been WORKING IT! WOW! This is such great news! Hope to see you more soon. So happy for you and your son! YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!!!!!!! You are DEBT FREE MY FRIEND! CONGRATULATIONS!
@@KateKaden 🥰Thank you so much for all your advice and to the KSquad for all your support, I couldn't have done it without you. Knowing I wasn't alone as a single parent and being left in debt was a struggle, but I've come out the other end stronger and it's a massive feeling of freedom to be debt free. I'll be watching more often now that I can relax a bit. 😁
These are great tips! I have a two-income household, but always looking to save even more 🙂 One tip I have when it comes to cutting hair is to go get it cut at a place like Great Clips. They cut your hair (no styling) if you are donating it. I am always growing my hair out and then going to get it cut for donation - two birds, one stone!
Also, see your dermatologist for your annual skin checks! My best friend was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma a few months ago and I was just diagnosed with squamous cell. You may think, "Oh, it's just a little bump" but you never know!!!
To lower our food waste and stretch that food money further we constantly cycle our food at home by expiration date and have fun cooking together. Thanks so much Kate I had been eating out a lot at the start of the year and since July we've maybe done takeout like 4 times (we had some gift cards and a date night envelope for these expenses so it didn't affect our budget)! Thank you for all your advice, it's really changing our lives!
Since I retired I'm going every 5 weeks instead of 4 when I was working. I also, shopped around for a hair stylist and saved $100 and found one less than a mile from home. I also, do a pedicure/manicure every 6 week instead of 4 weeks (trim toe nails in between).
Hair I did 2 twice a year. With curly hair is a blessing. I quit coloring mine so haircuts are a lot less. I don’t have them wash my hair which is the best but to cut down I quit. Now I can go every 2 months and it cost less then my every 6 months.
I got a callback for my mamagram too, it also turned out to only be cysts but I was stuck with $$$ for something that would have been free otherwise. grrr. However, if you are female you still need to do it to avoid big problems later.
Great video as usual. For budget cooking for singles (as so many are cooking for a small army and just isn’t very helpful for 1/2 person households), I recently found Rachel Resets channel on UA-cam and she is doing some amazing meals using minimal ingredients/budget but using things differently so you aren’t eating the same thing day after day. I’m constantly shocked at the wide variety of meals she does. And then for your stylist, don’t be afraid to be truthful with them. They are real people with the same struggles we all face. Letting your stylist know you can only come every 3/6 months etc. they can give you ideas or create a different plan. My stylist came addressed my color needs so I can go less often, better for my hair plan. And added bonus I absolutely love how it looks with this new plan. I still get to to splurge just not as often.
Kate, even if you didn’t always give such good tips on how to respect our money I would like your videos anyway because you have such a truly lovely kind energy that puts me in a good mood to watch! Thanks for being you and sharing so much value! 💞
I’ve set up daily, weekly, monthly habits and routines to save money in my main flexible expense categories: gas, food, and electric bill. This has helped a ton!
First off, thanks for another great video. When it comes to saving on clothing, I like to shop the local resale shops where I can find good quality clothes at a fraction of the cost of buying new. I only buy pants that are black or a navy blue and therefore go with almost any top that I pick out. Plus, I followed the one in one out rule. So if I buy two new tops, I take 2 back to the resale shop next time to donate back. The resale shops that I shop at also help people in the community who are less fortunate. I cook food in larger batches, then divide yet up into serving sizes and freeze it. Then, when I want something to eat, all I have to do is pop it in the microwave to warm it up. My own homemade frozen dinners. I feel like it saves me time and energy. I'm not having to turn the stove or oven on every day.
Kate, I was curious what part of southern Maine you reside? My uncle and I are traveling to Maine September 7th for 10 days. We are staying in Newport on Sebasticook Lake. I wanted to know what if anything we should see, do, eat, drink???? All of that sounds counterintuitive considering the channel you have. We are staying the last two nights in Portland. I just thought I would reach out. Love your channel....mostly your joy. You're right about health....I tore my medial meniscus last week just walking. How does anyone do that? Not sure, but I found a way. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sharon in Houston
Great Topic Kate. AS of 5/2023 Hubby and I are empty nesters, so now we can definitely cut back more on the utilities. I totally agree with you on medical. I am saving as much money as i can towards medical. I ended up in the ER back on April due to low potassium. That was not a lovely bill for sure.
I have a severe potassium deficiency. I have my doctor do labs for it every few months to make sure I avoid this and I take a prescribed high dose supplement. It might be worth asking about routine checking/management for it because that is always a cheaper route than the ER. P.S. I am a Benefits & Comp Manager ;)
It's amazing how our bodies function. And low potassium was no joke for me. I did follow up with my Dr. And he shrugged me off on rechecking the levels. But I did have my annual physical in August and my levels were back to normal.
My mom and I take our clothes & home items to local consignment shops. Then when we have money on our accounts from the things that sold, we use it to buy lunch or get something we need/want from the consignment shop like clothes, etc. It’s like shopping for free! Plus it helps get rid of things I don’t need.
i’m 66 and widowed i’m moving into my apartment in october i’m a nervous wreck about saving money and cutting back. you tips are wonderful. i t want to work on downsizing my wardrobe .
🐈⬛ hi Kate, thanks for good ideas. Free envelopes: I recycle envelopes that are included in “junk Mail” , keep them and use my own addressed mailing labels. For business type mail, not personal cards or notes though.
Hey K squad I'm all about home hair color and cuts. I like my air fryer, saves me a lot in groceries and time too. That Forrest Gump was a good movie too funny.
1) Have your idle money in high interest accounts, better than .01 or .02% interest in regular accounts; & main money should NOT be in BIG BANKS, but local credit unions for safety; 2) Have a basic wardrobe, mainly from thrift or friends' passalongs; 3) Basic hair care & less frequent hair appointments; 4) Stay healthy -- get regular checkups, watch diets & personal habits as best as you can; 5) Own less & of better quality & take good care of your items -- declutter & tidy up regularly
Hi Kate, I'm a senior widow blissfully contented alone . I visit my swap library as read free novels. Coffee at home most days. Yes, Coffee at home and a cookie tastes great. Batch cooking great way to save. No gym debt exercise at home with weights, yoga and walking. Simple cheap pleasures such as gardening and enjoying my surroundings. Haircuts 8 weeks apart instead of 6. Save money for bills each pay, no stress. I budget for vet bills for 2 cats and a dog. Thank you Kate for giving me more control over my spending.
This video was so validating, especially when you talked about hair. I learned how to cut/color my hair during the C19 lockdown and never went back. Not only did I enjoy the cost savings, but I loved getting my time back. I’m one of those people who don’t need to sit in a chair for a couple of hours socializing.
Yes! Loving my single life. Did well and enjoyed the no spend January and carried it into Febuary. It was great to save that $ and felt so good. This summer I am a restless spirit and have enjoyed eating out. I can afford to but feel I've been extravagant and have some guilt. Am looking for a cure to this boredom!
This podcast has helped in so many ways. Just talking to your internet/cable people and hinting you might switch scored me a $25 month drop, also cleaning out my linen cupboard I found about 5 or 6 partially used shampoos and conditioners. (Two girls). I have not purchased those in 6 months and I still have one more set. ou start down the road of saving its fun to find more ways.
As a natural blonde who got some greys popping in, I go every Fall and Spring to my hairdresser. Fall I get highlights, Spring I only get a cut. Bcs as a blonde going outside will do your hair sooo good and gets lighter by the Day. It saves a ton, is healthy in every aspect.
It's been two months I couldn't watch your content. However you were always on my mind and today I came back when I had free time. Dear Kate, I just want to tell you my " living below my means, frugal living habits are all due to you. I have been improving financially due to you though my source of income is so low. And sometimes it's not even sure if I get paid. You help middle class people like me to have the audacity to walk confidently in life journey. Thank you from the buttom of my heart and all love and power to you and Kaden darling ❤
I agree! I’m in my mid 40s . I do my annuals but I got my first call back with my mammo . Seeing what bills I have to pay for with health insurance . Good points!
Great video as always Kate, I agree with all the tips from the other viewers; I think also an important expense in ladies is make up and jewelry, they are expensive and sometimes we don´t use them very often, so we can reduce on that, hope you have a great weekend, hugs from México.
I let my hair go gray during covid. It is a unique color of gray with lighter highlights. I get compliments and even my hairdresser likes it. She used to color my hair but appreciates the gray. I used to pay over $100 every 6 weeks. Couldn't really afford it so put it on a credit card. Not anymore! Ive made a lot of changes thanks to your encouragement! 😊
Rum an energy star dehumidifier. Makes a huge difference in temperature in my 1940 house. No more cold cave impossible to heat. Hardly have to turn on heater at all with 40s Temps out. Also helps summer I'm told to feeler cooler
As for haircuts try the local beauty school, they are all supervised and mine always looks great. Mine has senior discount day also...win win. I also shop only the grocery ads and the clearance meats...im not a picky eater though...❤❤
Also, at our local community college you can get free or inexpensive teeth cleaning and haircuts. The students need real people to practice on. The local university that has a dental school does work on a sliding scale for dental work. Might take longer but cheaper. These dental students need to get experience. Thrift shops and consignment shops good for clothes and house hold items. Library books sales are great, too.
Hi Kate sorry haven’t been here in awhile. Lost my dad in January, had knee replacement February. Still try to heal. I live alone now. Trying my best to spend less. Thanks for everything you do. Say hi to Kaden and kitties ❤️. I’ll go back and watch the videos I miss
Toni, I've missed you! That's a LOT going on this year and I'm praying for healing for you all around. Adore you and sending you all the good vibes! Hope the videos continue to help! Love ya!
OMG! I had never seen your videos before but I liked this one so much that I cant wait for the next one. Your so authentic. Thank you so very much. Greetings from Cuba.
After getting a melanoma diagnosis last year and having to go back for a deeper removal was enough to wake me up. I am proactive about seeing the dermatologist every 3 months for the year, and then every 6 months for the next 2 years. Also I called my primary care provider and had him order my mammogram and bone density testing. A mammogram watches my lymph nodes too. And last year I was told that my bone density is dropping. I also am no longer listening to my my doctor's yada-yada and how my 40 pound weight gain over the past 6 years, is my new normal. No!! I am taking action. I can't get into a nutritionist in person, and with sketchy internet in the woods, I am trying an injection to get the weight off. I had 80 pounds to lose, I am down 42 and maintaining it. My body doesn't like the hormones in it, so I did 1 month, weekly, then 2 months rethinking it. I have over 4 months done 2 more rounds, but spacing out the injection to every 2-3 weeks, instead of weekly. Noom is costly, and Medicare claims that it will cover nutritional counseling. It is not that I don't know how to eat healthy. It's that I was raised with a warped relationship with food. It was a reward, it was comfort, sometimes you couldn't afford it. So a counselor that is focused on nutrition would be great. 40 more to go, and still looking for the best way forward. But on disability, money is tight.
This is a HARD one. I've gotten better. I keep a few token items and then TAKE PICS of everything else:):) And then let it go...it's too much "stuff!" :):):)
Don't buy new furniture, redo, save a lot of money. Have fun going to resale shops and flea markets. Been divorced since 2012, love it, I do what I want and go do what I want.
Hi Kate, love your content. Although, I'm not much of a commenter. I have been going thru your budget series and have a question that maybe you could address on a future video. When budgeting and you have categories..then what...where do you put your actual money? Do you lump it all in a checking or savings acct.? Thank you from a budgeting empty nester.
Hello friend! Okay so I keep a checking and a savings. I keep a budget buffer in my checking. The budget buffer I always say is a minimum of one month of expenses in your checking at all times. I keep closer to 2-3 sometimes, but that's not needed. Then the rest in savings. OR whichever account gives you MORE MONEY to keep it there. If you checking has a higher yield, that's an option. Look for your sitting money (either checking or savings) to make the most it can if possible while it sits:) Hope this helps!
Did you make a video on how you got out of your apartment when you got to a point that you really wanted out of there? Like a video about how you budgeted to get out on top of all your other expences?
Hey hey! If you check out my Buying My First House Playlist, I've got videos in there, especially on my "Faux" budget which is the best tool that helped me get out.
I am so proud of you🙏❤️🙏
Well done, you 👏 👍🏾 😀
Staying healthy is WICKED IMPORTANT as we get older. Most of us feel pretty indestructible when we’re younger, and it’s easy to allow bad habits to gain traction. Trust me, the older you get, the harder it is to change! 😬 I found out this summer just how expensive the emergency room is 🤯, so take care of yourselves, people!
TOTALLY. Thanks Ellen!
Marilyn! I am so happy you are cancer free🙏❤️🙏😍
Keep up the good work and attitude.
I had a burst appendix a few years ago. The bill was $300,000 plus. My insurance was good, but I still had to pay very big bills. It was financially devastating but Im still standing thanks to the Good Lord!
I love living alone with my 26 year old twins i am blessed by God
When I got my first apartment not only did I accept hand-me-down furniture, I made the rounds of family members asking them if they had any extra household items they wanted to get rid of i.e. pots and pans, dishes, sheets, towels, etc. Everyone was excited to donate to my endeavor and I outfitted almost my entire apartment without buying a thing :-) Additionally, accept leftovers from meals with parents and grands and enjoy them again at your new place the next night.
Yes!! It's hard living on one income, especially now since the price of everything keeps going up.
It's so true!
I buy from grocery sales, yard sales, have a garden and eat leftovers. I also bought health, heart attach and cancer insurance when I started my full time job at 19…worked since I was 15. Also paid off my house before I retired….pay more than your payment if you can. Use your money to work for you
Love this!
When a kid we ate 2 meals day. Good breakfast n supper n if hungry snack w peanut butter sandwich apple or banana.
Hello Kate! Great video! I live alone and my tip is: I don't pay for a gym membership.I do my yoga with UA-cam and I go for a walk every day, enjoying different places in my city, La Plata, Argentina.🇦🇷💝
Thank you!!
YASSSS Donna!
I like the mindset of treating your home as a sanctuary retreat. Your home should be a place you can refresh your body and soul. Thanks for sharing.
I agree with all of the above, most especially about having a cat.😉 that extra warmth, heart beat, having to take care of an another creature, can literarily keep a person from mindless shopping.❤
I've got 5 cat babies so Ican definitely attest to the truth of this 👍😻

Love my pets
You can use drug store hair color it is easy just follow the instructions.
@@CarolynDavasligil it doesn't hold the color on my course grey hair. I like the grey.
I get a lot of compliments on my gray hair. Go for it!
I LOVE THIS. I love a general formula. I just screen shotted this to contemplate again later. Thanks Terry!
I hate cleaning. After doing it for so many years I’m just burned out. I got the bare basics in my house and that’s the way it’s staying! So much easier on me 🙂
Maybe hire a cleaner
Kate I got the callback last year after my first mammogram. Words can’t express the anxiety that surfaced waiting for all of the follow up appointments and the expenses that come along with it.?Ugh… fingers crossed things go better this year.
Sending you all the clear healthy vibes your way!!!! I know! I was freaking internally!!! We've got this:)
🙏❤️
I feel you on clothes thing. I love ❤️ charity shops. About a year ago, I found a superdry hoody easily £100 ($125). I got it for £10 ($12 58). Recently, I found a like new Ralph Lauren polo shirt easily £150 ($188). I got that for £7 ($8.81). xx
I ended up just buying hair dye instead of going to the salon every 3-4 months for color. It’s saved a ton so far!
AGREE! Also, since my hair is short, I only need a half-box per dye. Just use a food scale to measure quantities out 😊
Much healthier NOT to dye your hair
I added up how much I've saved over the years by colouring my hair myself. It came to over $10,000! Now I'm buying new living room furniture with part of that money.
@@bevanbuckwheatshea5520 Not if you use plant-based natural dyes.
I’m teaching my recent high school daughter how to budget with the cash envelope system with a savings and checking account. I am using all the great tips I learned here and from others. I’m hoping to help her start on the right foot, wish us luck. Thanks Kate for the positive reinforcement and ideas.
That’s good until society goes cashless
@@lifewithmargot You can organise your virtual cash envelopes in an Excel sheet easily.
🙏❤️
Take an evening and cook freeze for later for lunches or dinners. Or you could cook and freeze the leftovers for lunches and dinners.
Take leftover food and make soop.
It doesn’t cost anything to be neat! 👍❤️ you are so right.
Thank you!
YASSS Melissa!
Thank you so much for sharing with us Terry! Happy Frugal Friday!
I've just got to add that your words mean a lot to me, my mum hasn't even expressed that she's proud of me. I may have a little tear.🥺
These are great tips! I have a two-income household, but always looking to save even more 🙂
One tip I have when it comes to cutting hair is to go get it cut at a place like Great Clips.
You are SO WELCOME! I'm so glad you're here!!!!
Since I retired I'm going every 5 weeks instead of 4 when I was working. I also, shopped around for a hair stylist and saved $100 and found one less than a mile from home. I also, do a pedicure/manicure every 6 week instead of 4 weeks (trim toe nails in between).
It was nice when I decided I was old enough to go gray. No regrets - and saves money not coloring.
@@dnorris4733 thanks not ready yet. When I was in College I even cut my own hair and colored with store color.
Hair I did 2 twice a year. With curly hair is a blessing. I quit coloring mine so haircuts are a lot less. I don’t have them wash my hair which is the best but to cut down I quit. Now I can go every 2 months and it cost less then my every 6 months.
Thank you so much for giving attention and tips to people like myself, who are a single parent and are happy being so.
You are SO welcome! I'm so glad you're here. Thank you! (I love it toooo!)
I got a callback for my mamagram too, it also turned out to only be cysts but I was stuck with $$$ for something that would have been free otherwise. grrr. However, if you are female you still need to do it to avoid big problems later.
Totally. AHHH! It's so scary! So glad yours were okay!
Thank you so much🙏❤️
Thank you for the shoutout! I really appreciate it, and am glad to have found Kate's channel too as a result of your sharing! 🥰

Thank you so much for sharing with us!
AHHH! The ER bills are so BRUTAL! We had one of those also this year...
I love ❤❤❤
My mom and I take our clothes & home items to local consignment shops. Then when we have money on our accounts from the things that sold, we use it to buy lunch or get something we need/want from the consignment shop like clothes, etc. It’s like shopping for free! Plus it helps get rid of things I don’t need.

1) Have your idle money in high interest accounts, better than .01 or .02% interest in regular accounts; & main money should NOT be in BIG BANKS, but local credit unions for safety;
2) Have a basic wardrobe, mainly from thrift or friends' passalongs;
3) Basic hair care & less frequent hair appointments;
4) Stay healthy -- get regular checkups, watch diets & personal habits as best as you can;
5) Own less & of better quality & take good care of your items -- declutter & tidy up regularly

I let my hair go gray during covid. It is a unique color of gray with lighter highlights. I get compliments and even my hairdresser likes it. She used to color my hair but appreciates the gray.

Elizabeth! You are TAKING ACTION! So proud of you!!!!!!!
Good advice for everyone! 🌝
Thank you Lola!
