Andy Partridge - Cavegirl
Переглядів 6 тис.4 роки тому
Cavegirl is Andy Partridge's demo for a song from the aborted bubblegum sampler album, 12 The Flavors Of Hercules, a release that would have claimed to be a 'best of' the mythical American bubblegum label, Hercules. The finished recording would have been attributed to the non existent group The Candy Coat Hook. The 11 other bands/artists would have all had different names.

Peter Blegvad - Meteor
Переглядів 7896 років тому
Performed live by Peter Blegvad on 14 March 1992, at St. Anns, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A. Co-written with Andy Partridge of XTC. Lyrics: A mass of minerals and metals, confused into a ball, hurdling through vacuum on a million mile fall. A piece of shattered planet, the last surviving chunk, ten times the size of Canada, a crumb of interstellar junk. Meteor, meteor. Don't you hear that distant ...
My Favorite Album #185 - Mark Hart (Crowded House) on XTC ‘Drums and Wires’ (1979)
Переглядів 10 тис.7 років тому
Singer/songwriter and multi-instrumental wizard Mark Hart (Crowded House, Supertramp) joins me for a freewheeling journey through the records that inspired him through his formative years, particularly XTC’s nervy, new-wave classic ‘Drums and Wires’ . We talk about how XTC hid their intricacy and sophistication through canny pop songwriting, whatever happened to Oingo Boingo, driving to Woodsto...

Love these guys❤
Great Colin Moulding vocals. Love it!!
Brilliant
Their music is so unique and genius
Does any one know any other songs that are good by this band? I can’t find any that I like as much as this.
I think this might just be a different mix than the album version. Comparing this and the studio recording side by side, the vocals sound pretty identical. The only real vocal difference I noticed is that at 2:57, leading into the chorus, he gives an ad-lib of "whoah, come on now!" where in the studio version the equivalent ad-lib at 3:05 is more of a rhythmic "c'mon, c'mon now!". So who knows, maybe Partridge and the band were such consummate professionals that they really did give a perfect performance for the radio. It's hard to say, just listening to a lo-fi recording of a broadcast where everything's flattened to mono and comparing it to a higher fidelity stereo studio recording. But I suspect that this was just a broadcast of an earlier mix using an alternate vocal take, rather than a perfect painstakingly arranged & practiced live performance of a song otherwise never performed live.
The song about the great delta alcoholic/level drunkard Hans Christian Rudolph as it would be sung by his former wife Trixie Herder and their daughter Sascha Maria Icks who is actually playing at the theatre in OsnabrückDo also listen to the version by The Manhattan Transfer
Incredible album. I wish it was available for download. My old cd completely worn out. Gold and Northern Lights are the standout tracks for me.
Fantastic! My favorite XTC song. I only realized it was sung by Colin when I watched the video. It still sounds like Andy to me, 44 years later.
偉大なバンド
Great performance, but need to know why Bobby Charlton was joining the show....
He was going to play the solo and sing chorus, but something happened ...
❤❤❤
この曲のシングルCDを手に入れた時の喜びを今でも覚えています(もちろん日本盤を待ったりしなかったので )
plus, the bass part is fantastic!
ive been listening to XTC since 1985 ! and i have never NEVER NEVER HEARD of this song , it was not on the black sea album thats for damm sure ! .
Dave Gregory's guitar solo on this studio-live version is the best of any of them. They are dragging the beat a bit compared to other live versions on UA-cam, so that probably helps. There's a number of videos where they rip this song so fast, you can't believe the drummer survived!
This solo and the one from "Super, Supergirl" are my 2 favorite Dave solos. Legend.
Is that Benny Hill singing?
I love this performance, and them, and Colin.. but I just wanna know what is he staring at? Hehe
Brilliant
It's the best band!!!!
Great shit man!!
Times Square
I see where that Message in a bottle riff came! XTC, ahead of their time ...
Baby baby the vibrators
I love the musical roller-coaster they take you on you cant tell where their going next
I saw them in Toronto on the Drums and Wires tour in the early 80s. Unforgettable.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Terry Chambers was a machine!
So Granada dumped So It Goes.. Tony Wilson for.. This?
I mean the format.. Not XTC who are genius obviously
No slouching in this band. The drummer is a machine and a good looking rough guy also. He must've pulled some birds.
Damn. So much better than most people seem to appreciate. Bloody brilliant.
I love Partridge's guitar sound. As does, presumably, Graham Coxon 😊
From the David "Kid" Jensen Show: Recorded 14 January 1982; Aired 25 January 1982]
Dave’s heavy groove reminds me of the Four Tops song , I Can’t help myself. Probably inspired Colin as one of the songs that played at the Hop ❤.
Theme song from Wonderfalls . A 13-episode American comedy-drama television series created by Todd Holland and Bryan Fuller. Four episodes were broadcast on the Fox television network in 2004, and the entire series was released on DVD in 2005.
Absolutely fantastic performance from XTC. The best songs stay in your head for the rest of the day, and this is one of them!
It's the guy that writes the hits That gets the money In this funny old world of pop The bassist and the drummer might be lucky They never seem to get a lot You start out high school buddies And swear allegiance for all time But when the checks come rolling in It's cash or I resign But the duffest tune a band can play And even the nightingales despair It's the sound of a lawyers doorbell That rings in Berkeley Square Ring out High school buddies Allegiance for all time Comrades of pop turn away In love and war all is fair A far worse fate awaits you On carpets made from human hair Good Night
Merry Christmas
It’s Christmas eve
A truly lovely, sweet, down to earth guy and also a total genius at the same time
Pommies rockin' it in Oz
It’s December 1st🎄
Fantastic bassist in a brilliant band all individually pulling different directions to make great songs
a musical milestone
Thanks for this interview. My ''desert island'' album would be Go2, because i loved so much ''Battery bride'', a Colin song. That album means so much to me... All my youth, 17 y.o., alone in London from 77 to 79, the Marquee almost every night, buying xtc first singles at Rough Trade, in Portobello, drinking a coke with Sting and Summers at the Camden club, a squatt, basicaly, when the 4 Police were opening for Fashion. ... So many souvenirs... Souvenirs of freedom and being at the right place at the right time. Go2 is the audio signature of those years, for me.
I can't believe Colin said no to Bill Sherwood about playing with Yes ! I dreamed of it ..( really ! ) : Andy and him joining Yes ! It would have been the perfect association. Yes + XTC. What both bands needed. Colin, please, call back Billy Sherwood... Say : Yes. Tell him you have a good drummer ! 😉
Awesomeness...
Bought on release just because of the list of contributing artists - Holsapple, Stamey, Partridge, Fier, Straw etc. This record is definitively in my all-time-top-50. And "Swim" is a song I turn to when I need a song for "pulling through" in troubled times. :-)
I love you tube. I so wish I could have seen these guys back then.
💜🤘🏾
I've loved this band since they first appeared. i have to admit a certain Talking Heads influence here... not a bad band to borrow from at the time.
So good. Tidy performance
