      I’m glad you gave this context. Dr. J was a class act and outside of Kareem, Magic, Bird and the young flyer for the Bulls, the were the bright spots. The NBA was so fucked up that live games were on tape delay with CBS. Doc carried two leagues and got to the Sixers and still gave the paying fans a show. Very classy guy that Jordan studied and quickly learned that the world was watching. My first ball was an anniversary ABA red, white & blue basketball.

      The NBA didn't even broadcast on main channels, If I remember VHF, the NBA was relegated to UHF in the 70's- early 80's. When Dr J played the NBA didn't even warrant prime time TV. I was born early 66 and that's how I remember it. I'm glad I saw it, but I don't think many others did that are alive today. Dr. J WAS seen as a superhero in his day, especially when he left the ABA for the NBA. His best years were in the ABA though. He was past his prime when he joined the NBA.

      Yes 💯% what he said..some liked Spiderman or batman..I liked Dr.J!! I just wish they'd put some respect on the unbelievable things he accomplished in the ABA in his 1st 5 yrs or so..n why hasn't any1 ever acknowledged the unfair expectations that were placed on his shoulders because he over exceeded their expectations by bringing the sixers 2 the finals in his 1st yr in the NBA?!Doc just like Iverson took Philly to the finals by himself n Magic n Bird had a gang of help from the very moment they entered the NBA!!! By 81 the Sixers were just starting 2 shape n2 the juggernaut of the fo,fo,fo Sixers that slapped up n swept everybody!!let Doc had that team in his 1st yr in 77 n trust me jordan would've really been doing his best Doctor rendition cuz Doc would've won 6 strait time as he fell in the NBA dig me?yep a young Doc Moses Bobby jones,Toney n Cheeks would've locked shit down n allat Bird n Magic talk would been a dead issue...long live The Doctor!!

      Maybe you should watch the way Dr J, cuff the ball with one hand, and did windmill slam dunk on the Lakers in the championship game. Dr J, had hang time, he was the first player to dunk from the foul line, reverse dunks, hang in the air, all that, that is one of the reasons the NBA, took players from the ABA, the ABA, was more exciting with high flying dunks, with David Thompson, and DrJ.

    MJ learned from DJ. It's a shame that these young guys don't give respect to the ballers that paved the way for them. MJ is no way the GOAT. I am 69 years old and saw most of the greats. The GOAT time was Wilton Norman Chamberlain. My two favorite players were Wilt and DR. J. Micheal was great but the game was changed because of Wilt's dominance. Dr. J use to talk about Connie Hawkins dunks. One game l remember when Connie was going after a loose ball and picked it up with his right hand. It looked like he was picking up a softball. He continued his dribble going towards the basket. He hid the ball behind his back as he was going up in the air. As he began to dunk he brought the ball from behind his back and dunked. Connie hands were bigger than Doc's and he was about 6'8". I give cudo's to MJ, Lebron, Kobe, and a few other greats, but Wilt is the GOAT and Dr. J had a style in his game that was second to none and MJ and others copied off of the Doctor.

    • @samuelhicks1268
      @samuelhicks1268 Рік тому +6

      Play styles are completely different. You never see Dr.J 3 dribble pullup or 1 dribble pullup jumper going left or right. They both can dunk that's about it. Jordan's game was way more advanced than doc's. Dr.J could barely dribble with his left hand. People only compared the 2 cause jordan could do the same dunks i.e. freethrow line dunk.

      @@mpound97 Nor did he ever need to, by the time Doc lost a step he was done, he had no reason to hold on and adjust his game like Jordan. And dude IF you think he had no mid range you simply have NO CLUE what you're talking about and obviously saw NONE of his ABA games, when he was in his Actual Prime, esp the two finals runs. His mid game was NEVER faulty when he needed it, he pulled up from everywhere he needed to be and was reliable he just CHOSE to keep it a buck inside, like Kareem chose to keep his where he did. Reasonable opinion needs a more solid foundation than some clips here and there of one guy as opposed to watching dozens of games over another dudes career, which is why most dudes chatter on bball is noise

    Look at Jordan’s iconic layup against the Lakers then look at Dr J’s iconic layup against the Lakers! There was no one even in the lane against Jordan and Dr J had to fly out of bounds and then back in bounds to finish the play! Those plays are the most prime examples of the difference after the ‘91 illegal defense rules David Stern parted the lane for Jordan. Before that Jordan was no better than Wilkins. Points and Dunks but no rings!!
