    I have a planted tank with a female powder blue dwarf gourami as the centerpiece, and a small squad of glowlight tetras. The glowlights like the midlle level and the large anubius on driftwood in the center. The gourami goes everywhere, as do the bladder snails that came on my plants. I haven't tried getting rid of the bladder snails because the gourami and tetras will pick off baby snails until they get about the size of the fish's pupil. They also have picked at the roots of the water lettuce I use as a floating plant, but they can't seem to kill it.
    My tank actually gets really warm due to having steam heat in my apartment - I have seen it as warm as 85 degrees! They seem to be doing ok. I have had the gourami about a month and the tetras about 2 weeks.
    Fun note -- while the natural and flame pattern dwarf gouramis have duller females than males, the powder blues are practically the same color.

    • @kinglyzard
      @kinglyzard 4 роки тому +3

      Dithers will do the trick. Mine was very shy at first then came bounding out of his shell.
      They like hides and lots of plants.
      Males like floating plants to nest in.

    • @jacinthjungco3902
      @jacinthjungco3902 4 роки тому

      MadCity Jack thanks man, what dither fish would you recommend for gouramis?

    • @kinglyzard
      @kinglyzard 4 роки тому +3

      Gouramis like lots of plants to hide in as well as hides.
      The more hiding places, the more you'll see your fish.
      Also, try using paper background on the back and one side of your tank. This will provide a safe dark corner for your fish. Plant it up.
      Male Gouramis also enjoy floating plants to nest in and hang out in.
      If your fish is still shy, try any number of schooling Tetras as dithers. Dwarf Gouramis are relatively peaceful, but make sure your dithers cannot fit in its mouth and that they are fast enough to escape any aggression that comes their way.
      I'd personally go with Bloodfin Tetras.

    That tank needs more live plants. Dwarf Gourami need plenty of vegetation for a healthy environment. They also need buddies. People always forget they aren’t “loner” fish. They aren’t really schooling fish but they’re easily stressed if they feel alone.

    Feeding two times a day?!
    I end every other day. This keeps the tank really clean. As it gives the fish a chance to eat all of their food.
    I also recommend corydons and ghost shrimp to help with the clean up.

    • @CichlidCity
      @CichlidCity  4 роки тому +6

      Feeding every other day works as well, but with my experience, feeding two times a day, but less portions make it so the fish eats all the food and the water stays cleaner. But hey, if it works it works.

      I wouldn't add another Gourami to the tank. You're already pushing it with two in a 13g. It must have lots of plants and hides, and you probably have opposite sexed fish, or two females.
      Female Dwarf Gouramis are scarce in the stores. Males will generally fight.

      I’ve noticed my DG is very sensitive to the parameters in my water, I think ph level affects him quicker than any other issue I have.. (like a canary) he lets me know something’s up and I need to maintain my water! They need at least 7 ph from what I’m reading.. mind does tumbling and sort of lists about given the direction of water flow.. I’ve also read that Gouramis are given to a ‘wasting disease’ that makes them a bit more difficult to bring to 3 years.. Nice video! I lost my powder blue almost immediately and it’s made me rethink my aquarium entirely..

    • @CichlidCity

      They are peaceful so you can get a variety or keep to one. They are alright just males, if you add females, they will likely be fine but that increases the chances of them fighting each other in order to be the dominant male and breed with the females.
