I'm building the exact same thing. Getting my Air Compressor out of my small shop. Concerned about condensation through so you may consider to put an auto drain valve on the compressor. Really nice looking job.
I have one of these lean to sheds. Mine is a 4x8 foot model. It’s cool it’s also my mini studio. Insulted the walls and all. Cool little personal space to have. I painted mine white as well because I was considering the heat. White reflects it so it probably reduced heat transfer a little.

Great video I want to do something similar about 7ft x3ft but place the door on the 3ft end and enter from my yard .The exterior 7 ft side replaces fensing. Hold off on the advance stuff like track saws and use more of the basic tools that will encourage the average you to do his/ her DIY project. Again great job.
Nice little shed. I would have done the roof differently though. The felt paper should go down first, then the drip edge. You cut it a little short on the ends which with hard driving winds and rain, may get water under the shingle and rot that osb. I also would have used reg. or if I had it, PT plywood for the roof instead of OSB. Thanks for sharing.

Also by keeping the drip edge tight it discourages wasps etc from building nests. God bless you as well
Hi, Mike, great video!! I want to build a shed like yours but I need an 8 x 8, do your plans include instructions on how to make a larger shed? Thanks!!!

Thanks! Glad it was helpful👊👊. This shed is just over 8' at the back if I recall correctly, but yes it can be easily modified, just maintain the correct stud spacing and you'll be good. Sounds like an awesome idea to build one out as a sauna!
Great work and video! I am thinking about a similar project but wondered if you had any local ordinances to deal with that require more space between your house and the shed. Any issues with that? Thank you!
Thank you very much! It's been great to get the air compressor out the of shop, but as a garden shed it would also be very nice. I didn't have any issues, but yes, do check your local codes.
LOL, I hear ya! To attach it to your house you would just cut away the siding where you want the shed, pour your slab, and anchor to wall studs 👍. Then tie the siding in with house when you side the shed. Since this was intended for an air compressor I wanted the structures to be separate for noise, vibration, and the potential air compressor failure. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

Turned out great. Just curious, it looked like you could have gone bigger where the shed is located. What was your thoughts on determining that size shed to build?
Thank you! Yes, I could have made the shed a bit wider, but about 2' from the front the ground slopes away. I really just needed this shed for my air compressor and that's the main thing that drove the dimensions👍
Hi Leyla, the slab is 4' x 3' and just over 8' tall on the tall side. The shed's dimensions can be adjusted fairly easily and there are notes on how to do so in the plans. Let me know if you have any other questions I can help with! Mike
The amount of tools and resources in this video is a lot. There are many hidden tools that are not throughly discussed and a DIY homeowner is going to be in for a shock if he is not aware of the resources you used.
Not trying to be rude but an impact, pocket jig, and saw? Thats not many tools I’m not so sure if a diy homeowner doesn’t have those types of tools laying around if they should be doing DIY work
Since it’s lean to, why did you have large soffit overhang in the back? What’s the smallest soffit overhang needed to have it closest to house? Does a shed need one? Thanks I’m stumped on that
I did that so that the top side of the roof would catch any rain the misses the roof line of my house. That way the ground behind the shed wouldn't get soaked during a heavy rain. I also made the overhang that large so that I could add some 3" round soffit vents (yeah, I know I didn't show or mention those 😕) Hope that helps!
Thank you for the great instructions you provide. I really enjoy your videos. However, I have a question. How do we weather proof the sides which back up against the back wall. I’m anchoring my shed to the wall of my house. I have a brick veneer house, but the concern would be the same regardless of it being weatherboard or brick veneer. My concern is when it rains directly in that area (back house wall) or when the wind pushes the rain in that direction, it will rot out the back wall. Does anyone here have any ideas or suggestions to deal with this? Thank you guys in advance 🙏

Hey Travis, thanks for the feedback! When I built this it was about $500. Granted I could have doubled the size for not much more but due to the location and grade I had to keep it small. Happy building!
@@WoodshopMike thank you for the prompt response. I live in HOA I don't know if they would allow me or not but will try. Thanks again and have a blessed day
Hi Terri, Nope unfortunately I don't. The plans are fairly easy to modify as long as you don't exceed the stud and rafter spacing you'll be fine to use the available plans and modify the dimensions to a 3'x6' shed!
Great video! Looks so good man. What is the size of this...3x5? You've inspired me to pour my own slab. Saw your plans online too. Will they build this one exactly or do they have to be modified? Also, glad you listed the parts and tools on here, especially which Diablo blade you used. Sometimes that confuses me in these types of videos. Thanks.
Thank you very much and I'm glad the video was helpful! Yes, the plans are for this exact shed. The slab is right at 3'x4'. If you want to make the shed larger, just make sure the stud spacing doesn't exceed 16" on center and you'll be good. I think I have a couple notes in the plans regarding how to modify the size of the shed. If you hit any bumps along the way though just shoot me an email (mike@woodshopmike.com) and I'll be happy to help out👍
By reading the comments it will be ok to modify to a 3x4 correct? The opposite dimensions as the one you built. Also any ideas how to attach to the floor without drilling my existing concrete slab? Thank you!
Yep, you can adjust the dimensions. There are notes in the plans of what to keep in mind when doing so👍 one way or another you need to anchor the structure to the slab, not really an option I'd trust to get around drilling into the slab unfortunately.
Excellent video, Mike. What door height did you use here? I couldn't find the general dimensions on your plans to see if they will work for my project. I'm trying to keep the back wall height below a window.
Thank you so much and thank you for purchasing the plans! The details on the door are on page 14 and the door opening is spec'd on page 7👍 Let me know if you have any other questions and happy building!! 🔨🔨
Sorry, I should have clarified. I haven’t purchased yet because I was hoping to find general dimensions before buying them so I know that they fit my needs. I was wondering if you had general dimensions that are available before buying.
Very nice. Frost heaving? I am in New England. Will your slab be adequate to compensate for any possible frost heaving or would a different method need to be used? Thanks
Thank you very much! That's not something I have to contend with so unfortunately I can't give you an answer. I'd check your local building codes. Best of luck!
do you have an estimation on price? I am looking for a garden shed and this might be cheaper than buying one. I would not be able to do concreate as I will need to be able to move it in like 3 years-we are renting but we have a yard. If I did not do concrete could I just put planks down and then plywood on top for a floor? Also, would I need something to anchor it down still?
In the plans I have an alternate design for the floor if concrete isn't an option, so you're covered there! When I built mine materials were around $275 - $350.
Great video! I’m looking to build something just like this on the dock by the lake. Do I need something more weatherproof to clad the walls with it it’s going to be getting the added weather off the lake? Seems like it’s just plywood walls. Should it have more or something specific ?
Thank you very much! It definitely wouldn't hurt to build it from pressure treated lumber and pressure treated plywood. The down side is that you have to let the wood dry for a few months before painting.
Thank you! The only OSB I used was for the roof sheathing (it didn't get painted since the shingles were covering it. The sides of the shed, but that's probably obvious). The siding is R-10. That and the trim were all primed and painted. Does that answer your question? Thank you for watching!
Thanks! There are a few reasons I didn't attach it to the house, but to flash it I would have just wrapped it under the siding and laid it on top of the shed's roof 👍
I have an exterior water heater, that compressor looks like the same dimensions as my heaters do you think this would be a good shed to store a water heater in?
This one is a 60 gal and there's enough room around it for a larger compressor to fit. The plans are pretty easy to modify though if you need a bit more room for a large compressor👍. Happy building!
I'm just gearing up to build my first shed. I've never done roofing before, can you tell me why you put the top drip edge over the shingles instead of under?
Very cool! The reason I put the top drip edge (could also just be flashing) on top of the shingles at the high side of the roof is so I have a seamless "cap". This keeps water on top of the shingles instead of potentially running under them. Hope that makes sense. Happy building!
I don't remember, but Home Depot has a calculator on their site. If you enter the dimensions of the slab you're wanting to pour and select the bag size you'll be using it'll give you the number of bags needed. I'd recommend grabbing a few extra and return whatever you end up not using.
Great video! what are the current dimensions on this build? In the description above you said in the plans that you can show us how to modify this build to fit our needs. Will it support a 4x4 or 4x6 lean to shed?
That was an awesome video and you did a beautiful job !!! What size did the lean to end up being? On your plans do you offer any custom sizing ? I have a existing shed a 10 x 20 gym shed and I wanted to add space to my shed keeping a tall wall on one end to allow tall equipment. Is this something you would be able to custom size in plans? Just curious
Thank you very much! This one is 4'x3'. In the plans I don't have a spread sheet or chart for different size sheds if that's what your asking, but if you follow the same method you can use the plans as a guide. The main thing is wall studs need to be no more than 16" on center and the roof joists need to be no more than 24" on center. If you stick to that you'll be good!
I wouldn't think so. Folks put water heaters in crawlspaces so I wouldn't think this would be a problem. Just curious why you'd want the heater in a shed?
@@WoodshopMike I was thinking of getting a heat-pump hybrid electric water heater, but they're both noisy and cool the room around them, and take up a lot of space. So I thought maybe to put it outside, but it'd need to be protected from the weather. But actually, just in the past few days I've now decided to go with a tankless electric! (much less space and silent, can put indoors). Thanks for your video, I may still build a shed for tools, etc!
@@WoodshopMike Cool shed! I’m sure this is a dumb question but could you have saved space by just building the shed to be attached to the side of the house? Or is that typically a bad idea for some reason? I’m thinking of building something similar to what you did but was thinking of not having any space between the house and back of the shed.
With an auto drain, some insulation, and a solar powered exhaust fan on the side of the shed, it would be silent! Almost never have to go in there too!
That'd be nice for sure but I didn't want to drill through my foundation. The way I ended up plumbing everything was with copper pipe through the conduit that goes through the house wall.
Thanks. Yeah, most people will use/need a larger shed. This was really for the process. The build doesn't change that much from just changing the footprint a bit. Thanks for watching 👍
It’s beautiful and well made but I don’t like the weird spaces behind it and between it and the house. Just a place for an animal to hide and trash to collect. The drain spout needs to extend away from the foundation as well 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks Scott! If this wasn't for an air compressor I would have built it flush with the house, and tied in the siding etc, so that's the reason for the gap. I contemplated the same negatives you brought up & thankfully it's not been an issue. Hopefully it stays that way 🤞. Totally agree about the down spout and good eye! I have an extender hooked up, just took it off in the thumbnail for aesthetics. Cheers!
I read a lot about the concern of compressors overheating in sheds. Time will tell but this side of the house only gets direct sun for the last few hours of the day. Are you thinking you'd have trouble because of where you live?
@@WoodshopMike overheating really is an issue if you fill it and empty it for projects that require a lot of CFM. I guess it’s a question of how many CFM’s you go through. Usage will tell... Keep us informed if there is an issue. Thanks for your video.

I'm no expert, just some dude trying stuff out and bringing folks along. I didn't think I really needed to chamfer the edges since a shed would be going on top. Glad to have that confirmed 👊👊 Good point though, I guess if I'd planned ahead enough I could've chamfered the door opening.
Thanks for the tip dude I'll let that in mind! It's been there for a few years at the point with the air compressor running daily and things are still solid😃

@@WoodshopMike do you have a link to the anchor screws you are using or specs? unless I missed it on the list you have
roughly how much did this cost in materials?
When I built the shed a couple years ago materials were roughly $700.
What if it leans fro?
🤣🤣🤣
Excellent video, Mike. What door height did you use here? I couldn't find the general dimensions on your plans to see if they will work for my project. I'm trying to keep the back wall height below a window.
Thank you so much and thank you for purchasing the plans! The details on the door are on page 14 and the door opening is spec'd on page 7👍
Let me know if you have any other questions and happy building!!
Great project and explanation!
I have a question about the water protection. Did you just use the primer over the OSB?
Thank you! The only OSB I used was for the roof sheathing (it didn't get painted since the shingles were covering it. The sides of the shed, but that's probably obvious). The siding is R-10. That and the trim were all primed and painted. Does that answer your question?
Thank you for watching!
Good build. But i was hoping you would attach to house so I could see how you flashed it.
Thanks! There are a few reasons I didn't attach it to the house, but to flash it I would have just wrapped it under the siding and laid it on top of the shed's roof 👍
I have an exterior water heater, that compressor looks like the same dimensions as my heaters do you think this would be a good shed to store a water heater in?
What size air compressor is that? Recently bought a 80 gal compressor and looking to build one for it.
Nice shed, but it's not a lean to.
No… it isn’t.
How much space did you leave between the house and the shed?
About 30" if I recall
What was the price of this project ??
At the time I built mine materials ran about $750
It’s a more finished look to also paint the inside jamb and underside header.
How many bags of cement did ya have to use
I don't remember, but Home Depot has a calculator on their site. If you enter the dimensions of the slab you're wanting to pour and select the bag size you'll be using it'll give you the number of bags needed. I'd recommend grabbing a few extra and return whatever you end up not using.
I would use it for a chicken coop with necessary modifications, window, vents, egg boxes, perches.
I have a few plans for chicken coops on my site if you want to check those out rather than modifying the shed 👍
Great video! what are the current dimensions on this build? In the description above you said in the plans that you can show us how to modify this build to fit our needs. Will it support a 4x4 or 4x6 lean to shed?
Hey Lance, thank you very much! The dimensions of the one I built are 4x3 so you'll definitely be good with a 4x4 or 4x6👍👍
@@WoodshopMike how far from the house did u set the base?
This one is about 2' from the foundation but check your local codes especially if you're pouring a slab👍
@@WoodshopMike thanks. Will do. I appreciate the response!
Of course! Hope you enjoy the build!
What size is this shed?
It's 4x6 👍👍
Its a 3x4?
what nails u using and screws
Linked in description👍
@@WoodshopMike Awesome Thanks Mike .. You have a new follower!!
Of course! Hit me up if you have any questions during the build! Glad to have you following along!
Shop dust collector (and air compressor too).
I considered making this one big enough for the dust connector as well!
Any reason I couldn't insulate it and put an electric water heater inside?
Makes total sense! Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it👍😃
How many inches is the shed from the main house ?
I think it's 18-24. There enough space for me to just barely get back there 😂
@@WoodshopMike Cool shed! I’m sure this is a dumb question but could you have saved space by just building the shed to be attached to the side of the house? Or is that typically a bad idea for some reason? I’m thinking of building something similar to what you did but was thinking of not having any space between the house and back of the shed.
you built the shed in front of the down spout. wont that be a problem?
It's actually beside the downspout so no issue👍.
@@WoodshopMike sorry mike i just discovered that a second ago at the end of the video. i spoke too soon. :0)
No worries at all! Thanks for watching!
@@WoodshopMike oh, always!
Whole home exterior water filtration system
That would be an excellent use for a shed like this! 👊
@@WoodshopMike Strong work on the shed as well! Professional! I mean, when you wear Carhartt gear IYKYK
Thanks! It's holding up really well 😃
Just leaving my digital footprint... lol I entered your giveaway..
Awesome!
With an auto drain, some insulation, and a solar powered exhaust fan on the side of the shed, it would be silent! Almost never have to go in there too!
I can't get over the fact she's building a simple little stead but he has a full damn workshop nobody else has this!!!!
Who doesn't own tools? Someone who doesn't know how to use them.
He. Not she.
Not to mention I didn't realize I was building a horse 🤷
It's a shame they don't sell those 9ah batteries for Ridgid anymore :/
Yeah those things are legit.
If it was for the compressor I would have run conduit up through the slab for a clean finish
That'd be nice for sure but I didn't want to drill through my foundation. The way I ended up plumbing everything was with copper pipe through the conduit that goes through the house wall.
Looks like I'll just get a Rubbermaid shed lol
Looks nice but useless for most people since how small u needed it especially since u made it to just fit your compressor
Cheers!
Wouldn’t a lean-to actually lean against the wall? Seems like an invitation for water behind that hard work.
I’m not lucky like you. My compressor would overheat in such a small place.
I will for sure! I've though about adding a fan to exhaust air if heat becomes an issue.
Absolutely! Thank you for watching👍😀

Too perfect and so fast amateurs can't follow. Looks good.
Thanks! It's been a great addition.
your bad ass
This is a pent design not a lean to. That ply wouldn't work in Europe cause of humidity. Looks nice though, the black latches were very blingy.
Hopefully you ventilated it
Sure did! Put a couple round soffit vents on the back side👍👊
I just built one recently too love it yours is very nice
Right on! Thank you very much 👊👊
I was proud my shed I just built using a midersaw and a circular....now I'm not so proud lolol
😂😂 dude building a shed with just a couple of tools is a victory👊
Nice but a bit little.
What problem would you face by building the shed directly up against the side of your house?
Code on most areas requires a minimum distance between structures. Personally I'm not sure of all the reasons.
you didn't chamfer the edges of the concrete. 😞
You don’t do that when you build walls on top of it.could have done the door opening tho.
I'm no expert, just some dude trying stuff out and bringing folks along. I didn't think I really needed to chamfer the edges since a shed would be going on top. Glad to have that confirmed 👊👊 Good point though, I guess if I'd planned ahead enough I could've chamfered the door opening.
@@WoodshopMike if it’s starting to chip then grind it round or 45 o
Even a flat rock will do the trick sometimes.
Thanks for the tip dude I'll let that in mind! It's been there for a few years at the point with the air compressor running daily and things are still solid😃
goodness me that concrete foundation...im thinking of building a shed 4 times as big not using a foundation like that...Just some slabs of stone...
I wouldn't do stone. Either do concrete or build the foundation from pressure treated 2x6s
@@WoodshopMike yessir i was thinking stone plus a hardwood or pressure treated frame. Its just a toolshed barely 6,5 feet bu 20 feet (all i have room for). So just to store some gardening tools etc
Sounds good!!
