@@Mephistofeles “toning down the violence” may just mean less action scenes. I bet this scene makes it because this is him pushed to his edge- it’s a big turning point in the game. Before this scene, Joel barely showed any affection towards Ellie. But after the tables turned and Ellie needed to take care of him, we see he’s someone who won’t let anything get in his way.
After the whole thing with the cannibals, Joel really shows how much he cares for Ellie and that he’s ready to let someone in again.

It's interesting to hear the BTS from mocap actors. In RDR2 they sometimes swapped characters. Some of the actors had to play multiple parts, including I think one of the women. And Dutch's actor was too big for some of the scenes and they had to adjust the set to match how the smaller Dutch would move stuff like jugs in the back of a cart. Him being over 6ft means his arms would be too long to match Dutch's movements picking something up

The fact that Joel went completely Rambo on these guys after they kidnapped Ellie, that's how I would expect an enraged father to act toward someone who kidnapped his child, and not that of a smuggler who's merely "transporting cargo."
I think it's clear now why Tommy said: "I got nothing but nightmares from those years," when he and Joel were hunters. But then, Tommy was also capable of great brutality and violence, as is evident when Ellie found the men he interrogated like Joel, and when he took out nearly all of Abby's men, and damn-near Abby herself, after what they did to Joel.
Tommy may have been the "White Sheep" of the family, if you will, but he was also a man you didn't want to get on the wrong side of, either.

Fr, they threw his entire charecter arc out the window with part 2. Made him, tommy and Ellie dumb. People always throw up in the argument “well it’s been years he’s learned to settle down.” Lmao, dumbest excuse ever. Joel lived in the safety of his quarantine zone for years and didn’t just start trusting every stranger he met. The man was also highly respected there by his people surviving there (excluding fedra. Fedra don’t look out for nobody but themselves.) Heck he didn’t even pick up a small family when the apocalypse on day 1 happened. Joel and tommy would’ve literally have left Abby there to die if naughty dog hadn’t have threw the beloved characters out the window. Heck even if somehow had tommy convinced Joel to help her both of them would never be stupid enough to go to her and her friends hideout. Where they had found her it was on THEIR territory. You can’t fuckin tell me after years of living there they don’t have hideouts marked specifically to get away from infected. It was so funny how they tried to force players to like each new character. As if any of them were actually interesting. It shows bad writing when you can play a game for 10 plus hours and not give a fuck when they just die off or leave. Like Dina and Jesse… whole games like watching a John wick movie but instead John wicks like “it was just a dog bro, I forgive you. Here let’s go grab a beer together.” To the final last guy he fought to get to… hate to say it but Ellie dying and you playing as Joel going completely mad would have been a farrrr more better game. The only thing part 2 had going for it was it’s gameplay and graphics. But I don’t give a shit how good that is if the damn game ain’t interesting enough to want to keep playing. Especially like part 2 where you watch 30 minutes of cutscenes, 20 minutes of looting and only 10 minutes of actually fighting (real gameplay.) pretty much through the entire game.

Also Joel is not a good man or a hero. He is a good father but a piece of shit human who doomed the human race. He does not deserve a heroes death but a death of a selfish coward which fits what his last words were “why don’t you say whatever speach you got rehearsed and get this over with”. He accepted his fate which is way more badass then die fighting clickers or some corny shit like that.

I prefer the suprise gunshot to the knee absolutely destroying his leg and any chance he had on keeping his leg. Even if Abby let him go after that he would of been confined to a wheelchair. Joel knew he was dead the moment he realized they were former fire flies… he knew what he did was fucked up and that kinda deserves to die for his actions against the fireflies and humanity really since Neil Druckman clarified that Ellie’s death would of made a cure or a vaccine. Sure you can say that no way they could of made enough for the world or even America and if anyone would trust a vaccine since we know how the world reacted to a Covid vaccine, there forsure would be non vaccers in the last of us universe lmao so I can understand Joel’s reasoning choosing to save Ellie rather than Hope for a better world without infected, I’d guess it would still take another 40 years to get to a better world even with a vaccine. The infected suck but we all know the humans were the real monsters in the Last of Us. Joel made the Dad decision and it had repercussions and I think Joel over the 4 years tried to redeem himself in his brothers eyes. His house speaks to the volumes that Joel was suppressing just to survive. He stopped living for 20 years and Ellie brought out the good Joel that Sara and Tommy only knew back when the world was okay. He’s a great wood carver and had a lot of passions and hobbies such as fishing and a huge Wine Enthusiast… and we all know his addiction to coffee lol

I probably shouldn’t compare, but when it came to the dialogue lines the show and game shared, I just remember being actually scared of what Joel would do VS in the tv show I just don’t feel the same level of intimidation.
I still feel scared of Joel watching this scene in the game. Maybe it’s bias since I played the game years ago, idk. Pedro did a fantastic job but frankly I wasn’t scared of him.
It probably has more to do with the framing of his character in the show vs his framing in the game and the fact that they can’t translate all the combat into a TV show, but overall his character in the show just doesn’t feel as hardened as the game so it makes scenes like this not hit quite the same

Why does he have his back pack on? I swear every time I’ve compare the OG and the “Remake” it’s the little things that matter to me that ND just simply forgot or didn’t think people would notice. They’re missing the point entirely.

@@notnero5280 in the original it’s implied that he tortures these guys for a while, maybe an hour or two, Hence the reason why his back pack is off. This scene implies he tortures them for 2 minutes and get the info. There’s no struggle, I prefer the old direction is what I’m saying. @@TimSandals I mean that's a pretty keen eye for detail, can't argue. But most people aren't going to worry about that kind of detail. And for me, it didn't take away from the experience. What did was waiting a while for this to go on sale because I wasn't about to pay 70 bucks for a remake of a remaster from the PS3 era, with no online.

This better make it into the show, I swear to God! Because as good as Pedro Pascal's portrayal of Joel is, he's a little vanilla compared to the game. I need to see Joel do some brutal shit!

Isn’t it ( not the exact ) but the same way how Abby dismantled joels knee and then beat him with an object while he was sitting against a wall 🤔
