Fr, they threw his entire charecter arc out the window with part 2. Made him, tommy and Ellie dumb. People always throw up in the argument “well it’s been years he’s learned to settle down.” Lmao, dumbest excuse ever. Joel lived in the safety of his quarantine zone for years and didn’t just start trusting every stranger he met. The man was also highly respected there by his people surviving there (excluding fedra. Fedra don’t look out for nobody but themselves.) Heck he didn’t even pick up a small family when the apocalypse on day 1 happened. Joel and tommy would’ve literally have left Abby there to die if naughty dog hadn’t have threw the beloved characters out the window. Heck even if somehow had tommy convinced Joel to help her both of them would never be stupid enough to go to her and her friends hideout. Where they had found her it was on THEIR territory. You can’t fuckin tell me after years of living there they don’t have hideouts marked specifically to get away from infected. It was so funny how they tried to force players to like each new character. As if any of them were actually interesting. It shows bad writing when you can play a game for 10 plus hours and not give a fuck when they just die off or leave. Like Dina and Jesse… whole games like watching a John wick movie but instead John wicks like “it was just a dog bro, I forgive you. Here let’s go grab a beer together.” To the final last guy he fought to get to… hate to say it but Ellie dying and you playing as Joel going completely mad would have been a farrrr more better game. The only thing part 2 had going for it was it’s gameplay and graphics. But I don’t give a shit how good that is if the damn game ain’t interesting enough to want to keep playing. Especially like part 2 where you watch 30 minutes of cutscenes, 20 minutes of looting and only 10 minutes of actually fighting (real gameplay.) pretty much through the entire game.
@@fullsendabeerforme2988 this game would had been better if … Abby and Joel had some missions together. It would be cool if it was a choice on letting Abby live or not because it didn’t make sense for Ellie to let her go
This scene and the scene in Part II were Tommy is after Manny and Abby leaves me wondering what Joel and Tommy were like when they were Hunters. Would love a prequel that explores that or even a standalone similar to what Lost Legacy was to Uncharted 4
His arc was over after the first game. More Joel would just mean more fan service and a repeat of the first game which Neil is not a fan of and hates doing. Also Joel is not a good man or a hero. He is a good father but a piece of shit human who doomed the human race. He does not deserve a heroes death but a death of a selfish coward which fits what his last words were “why don’t you say whatever speach you got rehearsed and get this over with”. He accepted his fate which is way more badass then die fighting clickers or some corny shit like that.
I prefer the suprise gunshot to the knee absolutely destroying his leg and any chance he had on keeping his leg. Even if Abby let him go after that he would of been confined to a wheelchair. Joel knew he was dead the moment he realized they were former fire flies… he knew what he did was fucked up and that kinda deserves to die for his actions against the fireflies and humanity really since Neil Druckman clarified that Ellie’s death would of made a cure or a vaccine. Sure you can say that no way they could of made enough for the world or even America and if anyone would trust a vaccine since we know how the world reacted to a Covid vaccine, there forsure would be non vaccers in the last of us universe lmao so I can understand Joel’s reasoning choosing to save Ellie rather than Hope for a better world without infected, I’d guess it would still take another 40 years to get to a better world even with a vaccine. The infected suck but we all know the humans were the real monsters in the Last of Us. Joel made the Dad decision and it had repercussions and I think Joel over the 4 years tried to redeem himself in his brothers eyes. His house speaks to the volumes that Joel was suppressing just to survive. He stopped living for 20 years and Ellie brought out the good Joel that Sara and Tommy only knew back when the world was okay. He’s a great wood carver and had a lot of passions and hobbies such as fishing and a huge Wine Enthusiast… and we all know his addiction to coffee lol
See I like how Joel went out tbh, he went out quick and brutally like how he treated his enemies. Violent lives have violent ends and everyone pays the price for their actions. Only thing I'd change is the character Abby, other than that I still agree with Joel dying for what he did.
I don’t know if anyone feels the same, but now that episode 8 has come out on HBO, I still think video game Joel was way more intimidating and scary. I probably shouldn’t compare, but when it came to the dialogue lines the show and game shared, I just remember being actually scared of what Joel would do VS in the tv show I just don’t feel the same level of intimidation. I still feel scared of Joel watching this scene in the game. Maybe it’s bias since I played the game years ago, idk. Pedro did a fantastic job but frankly I wasn’t scared of him. It probably has more to do with the framing of his character in the show vs his framing in the game and the fact that they can’t translate all the combat into a TV show, but overall his character in the show just doesn’t feel as hardened as the game so it makes scenes like this not hit quite the same

The scene in the series was very good, for me the only thing missing was to show the barrel hitting the guy's face, but apart from that, it was awesome.
Villain or Hero, its neither of these 2, his character is just ruthless, selfish, persistent, and a badass as player's we followed him and rooted for him on his second chance with ellie.
Was it really necessary to turn the shaky cam up to 9? I loved how in the first game that nut-kick was portrayed so flatly. Some of the most impactful violence in that game is strangely understated.
I think most of the violence being understated was the best thing about the first game. I think part of it was game engine limitations but focusing the camera on Joel or Ellie during all the major character deaths made them more impactful IMO. One of my issues with part two is they didn’t really stick with that motif.
I kinda wish that it was Joel rampaging through seattle because someone he cared about was murdered. And Ellie has to bring him back to Jackson safe and alive. But also Ellie wants revenge the same as him. Dina and Jessie will really see how much of a savage Joel is and Ellie just goes "yep, thats my dad."
Fun fact: in one of the earliest trailers for the PS3 version of this game, this scene (1:52) was briefly shown off, but Joel used a machete instead of a pipe.
The HBO show can take as much creative liberties as they want... But please adapt this scene frame by frame, it is perfect as it is, and Pedro Pascal would absolutely nail it.
@@maulanadaffa4191 Just watched it... It was perfect, not disappointed at all, just wished he snapped the dude's neck but now that I think about it it was a lot more practical to use the knife (besides we already got Joel's snapping neck signature move in ep 6 so I can't complain) in a certain way a lot more brutal since the guy died from blood loss instead of the quick death in the videogame. Now all we need is the absolute beast he will become at the Fireflies hospital.
I'm actually impressed with the violence in the hbo show after they said they'd tone it down. Episode 8 was good (obviously I wasn't expecting them to show a human body being chopped up 🤣)
I like how Joel says "you wait here" like the dude is about to blitz out of there lmao My man, you beat the fuck outta the dude, tied him to a heat sink and sent him a death threat! He ain't going nowhere lol
He beats the second guy in order to put in the fear of god in the both of them. THEN he gets information out of the first guy but he doesn’t have the first guy just say it because then the second guy can copy what he said. And then joel gets confirmation from the second guy for the said info. But in the case joel was more than sure the first guy was scared out of his mind so he made him go to sleep Its also more potent with the initial beating because he makes sure the first guy is facing away from the second so he can just imagine how brutal it is.
You know looking at back at this I think Joel totally deserved what he got, he was a fucking monster. How dare he try to save a little girl, he should have just let the crazy cult who kidnapped Ellie have their way with her. Thankfully, that dude's daughter ultimately got revenge for all this senseless violence.
But he did kill a few surgeons who had done nothing to him and Ellie was always willing to give her life so people like Sam could be kids again. Joel robbed weak and naive people like Sam the chance to live a somewhat nornal life again. He is just a monster who created this quasi father / daughter with some girl he met months before
@@ronburgundy3172 Oh no, I didn't mean the surgeons, I was talking about the cannibals. They were going to kill Ellie but it's ok since it's for the greater good because they were going to feed her to their community. Killing a child to help several people is always objectively the right thing to do, that's how it works.
My theory is that Joel is going to unleash in these final few episodes. Faced with the danger of losing his daughter again, he becomes a man possessed unhindered my his own physical limitations. If this is what theyre doing, then thats amazing. On the other hand, if they just mean to water him down and they cut this scene entirely...
Show Joel has been so watered down and is a shell of himself. Just take the impale scene from episode 6...Joel takes on a single guy and suffers a nasty injury. Even as unrealistic as certain parts of the impale scene from the game is, that shows who Joel is and what he's capable. I'd be shocked if this scene, in any capacity, is in the show, especially with only two episodes left and there's so much story left to cram in.
When the adaptation of this scene premiered for HBO, I was yelling things like, “Stab him in the knee, c’mon!” “TORTURE!!!” “Fuck yeah! Make him point on the map with the knife!” And my mom said, “There are a lot of concerning, violent things coming out of you right now.” Also, how brutal is it that Joel made the guy use his own blood to mark his map?

Idk why, but i always feel there is a major difference between Pedro Joel and Game Joel. Game Joel is next level unhinged. Like you know for a fact that if you are under the barrel of gun, you are about to die. But in the same scenario but with Pedro Joel, it seems like Pedro Joel would be more merciful.
I think/hope that’s the point, that they’re making Joel look more merciful so when Joel goes apeshit in the hospital, the audience will be surprised at how brutal he really is
The whole "live by the sword, die by the sword" justification for Joel's death rings very hollow when his killer, bent on vengeance, killed him, bit his daughter's fingers off, and then got let go in a shallow, badly written and even more poorly executed method of fingerwagging and moralization. This series became a farce with part 2. Those who praise it should practice some consistency and see why it's a joke. No, you don't suddenly let somebody go after you have a sad flashback, especially when you've killed dozens to get to them, you hate them above all else, they've just bit your fucking fingers off, you're running on pure hatred and adrenaline, and they deserve to "die by the sword". Part I: 🙂🤜🏻🤕🦷🦴🔫🤯
Fr, they threw his entire charecter arc out the window with part 2.
@@fullsendabeerforme2988 this game would had been better if …
Abby and Joel had some missions together. Joel would trust Abby which will lead him to his death
Cutting Abby’s part by half
The theater fight scene, it would had been cool if it changed perspectives for each small cutscene that lead to progression
The final fight.

I'd be happy even if it's just a DLC, even
In the TV Series I bet Troy Baker's character is one of the guys Joel interrogates.
Can’t wait for part 3 when that aunt’s uncles twice removed little cousin of the cannibals kills Ellie cause of the events of the first game
If only Neil could've channeled this energy with Joel in Part 2. At least have him go down fighting
I'm sure he would have if he still had both his legs lol
It started with him having his kneecaps blown off like he’s Woods from black ops 2 but ok I guess he could’ve just crawled to his attackers 🤷🏾♂️
"Thats all right.... *shrugs*... I believe him"
I can imagine the pain when joel shoved that knife on his leg. Ouch!.
It probably has more to do with the framing of his character in the show vs his framing in the game and the fact that they can’t translate all the combat into a TV show, but overall his character in the show just doesn’t feel as hardened as the game so it makes scenes like this not hit quite the same
Please have Pedro do this. Exactly. I’m so excited for the whole David arc

Like he never tortured any of Joker’s goons like that to find Jason Todd. I get it’s in character for Batman to not torture or kill but the fact that we didn’t see him severely injure/strike fear into Joker and the men that aided him into torturing Jason Todd and Jason never getting revenge disgusts me it’s frustrating Jason being needlessly tortured for over a year with no consequences and Batman didn’t even bother to Search for Jason Todd’s body and just thought his surrogate child’s body wasn’t worth finding, so much for world’s greatest detective.

The HBO show can take as much creative liberties as they want... But please adapt this scene frame by frame, it is perfect as it is, and Pedro Pascal would absolutely nail it.
well based on hbo record i think they will make this scene more brutal lol
@@maulanadaffa4191 Just watched it... It was perfect, not disappointed at all, just wished he snapped the dude's neck but now that I think about it it was a lot more practical to use the knife (besides we already got Joel's snapping neck signature move in ep 6 so I can't complain) in a certain way a lot more brutal since the guy died from blood loss instead of the quick death in the videogame. Now all we need is the absolute beast he will become at the Fireflies hospital.
I'm actually impressed with the violence in the hbo show after they said they'd tone it down. Episode 8 was good
(obviously I wasn't expecting them to show a human body being chopped up 🤣)

The funny part for me is when Joel drags the guy and the guy still talks some shit lol
You know if one or both of the two people he tortured and killed was female, Joel would be the most hated pratogonist in fiction.
He shoots a woman in the stomach and then in the head
You forgot how he killed Marlin, when she was asking for mercy, wounded and unarmed? Bur that didn't make players hate him.
Women can be evil too tho. It has nothing to do with gender.
Totally getting the Frank Castle vibes from this.
0:57 blade to the knee
straight to the point joel..I love that
How does this torture method works I don’t understand
He beats the second guy in order to put in the fear of god in the both of them. THEN he gets information out of the first guy but he doesn’t have the first guy just say it because then the second guy can copy what he said. And then joel gets confirmation from the second guy for the said info. But in the case joel was more than sure the first guy was scared out of his mind so he made him go to sleep
Its also more potent with the initial beating because he makes sure the first guy is facing away from the second so he can just imagine how brutal it is.
@@theheadhunter2427 yep. Loved seeing how Tommy did it in the 2nd game

Thankfully, that dude's daughter ultimately got revenge for all this senseless violence.
U must really have no friends
WTF?
But he did kill a few surgeons who had done nothing to him and Ellie was always willing to give her life so people like Sam could be kids again. @@ronburgundy3172 Oh no, I didn't mean the surgeons, I was talking about the cannibals.
It just sucks to know troy baker is gonna be one of David's men in the series

Show Joel has been so watered down and is a shell of himself. Just take the impale scene from episode 6...Joel takes on a single guy and suffers a nasty injury. Even as unrealistic as certain parts of the impale scene from the game is, that shows who Joel is and what he's capable.
I'd be shocked if this scene, in any capacity, is in the show, especially with only two episodes left and there's so much story left to cram in.

I mean game Joel is a superhero while show Joel is very human
I think/hope that’s the point, that they’re making Joel look more merciful so when Joel goes apeshit in the hospital, the audience will be surprised at how brutal he really is
The whole "live by the sword, die by the sword" justification for Joel's death rings very hollow when his killer, bent on vengeance, killed him, bit his daughter's fingers off, and then got let go in a shallow, badly written and even more poorly executed method of fingerwagging and moralization.
