Check the ohms of the sub that smoked... Since the same amp burned on that sub it's possible that when the sub smoked the coils could have shorted and made the load too low for the amp.. Just something to check before replacing the amp and it possibly happening again
I am willing to bet, the sub smoked because they're not really rated for that kind of power to begin with. Not many subs out there that can handle 5k rms constantly.
@@robcooper3171 every sundown Xv2 and above I have ever owned has taken 5k+ daily for years of pounding abuse and still playing! Hell even though I hate them the Orion HCCA are rated for 5k and my Wolfram PT-18'S are rated for 4krms with 4in PE flat wound coils good for up to 500deg F so yes there are plenty of woofers that will take 5k+ constantly and keep on keepin on just have to know HOW to do it properly because a typical 5k rms amplifier is only ever going to clamp 3k-4k during use as the impedance rises now had he had overbuilt korean amplifiers then I doubt this ever would've even happened but something about those full-bridge/full range Brazilian amps when you're purposely overpowering your woofers they tend to let out the smoke! @@CC6_Fanclub_President I would recommend using bolts for your terminals on your enclosure, or get some of the heavy duty ones that Steve meet makes which are essentially just bolts and really thick plastic.
That's the inductor, not the transformer on the amp. Typically they go out when there is some distortion here and there. Anyhow, great build! Greetings from PR!
Those coils are a low pass filter to remove the class d artifacts. The clipping light probably means the inductor is bad and not filtering the noise so the amp thinks it’s clipping
Those would be your output inductors(chokes). Seeing as you had an issue, with that side, with the subwoofer as well. I would ohm it that subs coils. See if they have any differences between each coil, due to heat stress. That could be what caused the issues with your amplifier in that side as well. Or the amplifier could have been the issue, which in turn caused the subwoofer to clip, and heat up. A couple of variables could have caused the amplifier, to heat the inductors up that much.
12:40 - yeah, that's a transformer, yes, it heats up too, so, this can cause with it a simple overheating too. Also the transformers are too far from the fans + the big caps are between the trasformers and the fans which makes worse the tansformer's cooling. In the most cases if you just replace this thansformer, the amp will work normally like before. Also 1 of my friends had similar problems with his amp more times even though he had an external fan which blowed air on the amp: always some component was toasted inside the amp which wasn't connected to the heatsink, then I realised that is because of overheating. I just made a new bottom plate for the amp without venting holes, cut a hole on it for an extra fan, I checked which direction the original fan pushes the air - it was pulling the air outwards from the amp, then I installed the extra fan in such a way that it pushes the air inwards into the amp - to make ideal air circulation -, and this solved the problem. In my opinion it is a good idea to make this on your amps too because mainly those big caps are resisting the air flow from the fans to the transformers. Ideally this extra fan should be at least as big as the original fan, or / and should push at least that much air like the original fan, and obviously also need to pay attention to not cover it when placing the amp back into the car...
I just doublechecked what I've seen on the vid, they can be also transformers - because there are existing transformers which are looking like these -, but maybe they are just inductors - if it only has 2 terminals, they are inductors, if it has more than 2 (usually 4) terminals, they are transformers. They're looking like they have just 2 terminals + also they are labelled as "L1" and "L2" - because of these things they are inductors for sure. Also I see there +2 outlets for extra 2 fans on the plate where the clip light is, so yeah, I would put there extra 2 fans for sure, so, the new bottom plate with that extra fan isn't really necessary in the way I wrote before, but anyways, I would maybe put there that extra fan - 5 fans total = ideal cooling...
@@PBasschannel Their output inductors. Just about every class D amplifier out there has them, they filter out some of the noise from the switching power supply.
The left side sub smoked because your box isnt symmetrical, it had a lot more room to breath than the other one because your port was under it and it would move more or less more than the other one. The best and the loudest box for 2 subs is wood port in the midle from top to bottom, it will act as as a brace too so no additional bracing needed.
It bugs be how awkward people can be at these events. Like you can't talk, you're not moving so there's nowhere to look ahead, so everyone's just stuck nodding or just staring at the sub.. Or awkwardly glancing at the camera lol. I love bass but I can't handle that lmao
Parker the big square things are the transformer what u called the transformer is the choke and they get extremely hot that amp needs that choke removed and replaced immediately or when it goes it's taking the whole output section with it it's manufacturer flaw defect better just send the amp back in if u can cause it's stuck in clip mode cause the insulation on the choke wires melted and are not having the correct amount of turns now and will drastically affect the ohm load the amp sees. Those fans need 4 fans or one big fan strait in the center directly on the chokes.
Was great meeting you that morning waiting for the gates to open! I knew I should have followed you to the infield, I parked out on the track and was only able to give like 6 demos 😞. Definitely had a great time and will be seeing everyone again at ruckus and chill!!!
You killed the output choke and the clip light is on because the amp is sensing high frequency AC on the output because it's not being filtered by the choke.
Nice. Had a sub or to burn before. It happens. Man that coil got hot. I've had taramps go into clip and pop when my voltage got down to 11.3 volts. My fault for not paying attention. Keep hitting. Now time to beef up the truck for the sound.
Those output inductors got HELLA hot on that amp, those filter out the high switching frequency of the class D amp. My bet is the clip light is on due to it not filtering correctly anymore.

This is not a transformer. It's the output inductor (Choke) between amp and speaker. This is a full bridge amplifier which has two complete amplifiers in it, which do exact the same signal with a phase shift of 180 degrees (inverted). The speaker has no ground potential and is between the two amps. So the voltage on the speaker is doubled with one single rail voltage. It looks like one half of your amp died. So you have still signal on the output with the half of the voltage (quarter of the power) and mostly you even have a dc offset on the terminals, too. Check with a voltmeter, if there's DC on the speaker.

Maybe it was the wood burning from the amp being so hot also
It fell out once so itl fall out again locktite the bolt. Just dont use the perma one.
Looks very fun. Wishing i had my set up done and there. Building a tapped horn for 2 10s next weekend. Max x from dayton. For a buddy. My set-up is pretty basic 15 in a 6th order bass reflex. Nothing like what you are doing hahaha.
Any thoughts on re-tuning the ports to 35hz give or take? Seems like the spl would be higher at higher frequency if tuned that way.
You cannot let the smoke out of those caps, they need it!
Buy locktite for any loose bolts. Keeps nuts from coming loose.
