Stunning work, Brad! Thank you for an inspiring video! I have a few suggestions. I'm a professional video producer, and I appreciate the hard work that went into making this video: excellent camera work and editing. Music selection and sound mixing are spot on. I would love to hear some narration/ commentary about your technique. As a DIY knife-maker, I could learn a lot from you if you explained the process. Concerning the chefs knife you made in the video, it is gorgeous. However, I would suggest you reconsider the ergonomics on subsequent constructions. Chefs grip their knives where the tang exits the handle. They cut with a pendulum, undulating motion. So, the blade needs to be balanced at this point, and the transition from the handle should be narrow enough to hold it lightly. Also, a 10 inch knife is the optimal size for most cooking tasks. I realize this video is a year old at the time of my writing, so my comments might be superfluous. However, I enjoyed your work on this project SO MUCH, I couldn't resist offering my 2 pennies. Please keep up the fantastic work, and thank you for the inspiration!!
Dude stoked to see a new video. That thing turned out so cool! Huge fan once the kids grow some and I have money again I wanna get into knife building!
Thanks for watching! It’s been a very satisfying craft for me. Definitely a rabbit hole of tools and techniques!
That sir is a great knife, you should be quite proud of it. I really like the pattern that came out in the etching. Great job
Thank you very much!
Man this has to be one of if not the most beautiful knifes I’ve ever seen. You do an amazing job, definitely subscribed, and you keep doing what you are doing!
Literally one of the best I’ve seen I do excellent handles and scrimshawing work I use a lot of ivory handles and very exotic woods!!! my area of expertise in this is in the handles I did one for my dad inlayed with gold and Purple Heart wood and has gemstones set in the handles
Good knife
Turn out very unique Damascus design there Brad keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend forge on
Thanks Jared! Appreciate the kind words!
@@RichardsonForge ur very welcome sir
Love to see some Shark tooth pattern on a Classic Bowie knife!!!
Love it
Awesome job, Brad!
Liked the 1 video production approach, too.
🇬🇧🤝🇺🇸
Thank you!
Dang that turned out great. Very cool brother. And I will definitely start ordering my belts from that place you recommend.
Thanks for watching! You won't be disappointed with the quality!
While the Damascus came out really nice, the ergonomics of the handle as well as geometry of the blade seem a bit questionable to me.
I found it to be a huge benefit to make the handle detatchable (by setting it using epoxy and bees wax or by using a bolted thru-tang construction). This allows for grinding the handle flush with the bolster and after grinding you remove the handle for heat treat, polishing and etching.
Thanks for the advice! This was my first attempt at a knife in this style so I'll have to try out some other methods next time!
Always wanted to learn how to do this, as a hobby. Where can I learn how to do it?
Hey Brad!!!! Glad you are still making videos.
You're creepy
@@ItIsRitch Lmao!
@@ItIsRitch Partly in honor of your proper use of the contraction "you're" I have edited out the remark on Brad's beard. It was improper of me to say what I said, and I apologize to Brad, whom I have followed for many years, and to you. I admire you defending him.
It is rare to see someone type "you're" instead of your. Many people aren't aware of the spelling, or even what a contraction is. You listened at school. Blessings to you, and my respect.
Thanks for tuning in! Haha

Thank you very much!
I wish I was American. The Dreams of being a knifemaker has vanished.. Prices for the Basic knife elements are enough to make me bankrupt
Very nice knife! Big 👍like from me. I also make some diy knife projects and outdoor videos. Keep on!!!
What kind of wood is that?
California Redwood
@@RichardsonForge Swag
Where did you get your hammer (5:30) and what weight is it?
That hammer is from my buddy Mike Dippel. He's on Instagram @mikedippelblacksmith
@@RichardsonForge Thanks!
How are you liking that Grizzly 2x72? I've been eyeing it as an entry-level model. I'd love to hear your opinion of it!
I'm loving the Grizzly for the price. The biggest downside would be the lack of a VFD. I've been able to make some modifications to run smaller wheels which has helped a lot.
@@RichardsonForge Yeah i noticed your DIY small wheel attachment. Regarding the VFD, is it 3-phase then? I was thinking maybe an AC rheostat could be used, but I'm not sure if those only work for single phase. Love the channel, keep up the good work!
@@andrewneilson227 The Grizzly is just a single phase. It's a 1hp w/ a speed of 1725rpm. Thanks!
Beautiful knife, really enjoyed your video, looking forward to seeing more, Regards from Down Under.
Is this new metal that appeared toxic? Can it be used in cutting meat or something?
That’s pattern welding not true Damascus homie
Alright man!
