I don't know why I like watching you guys so much. It's just so real and personal. Watched other sailling channels and never felt any connection with the authors.
The opening close up passing shot of "Pentimento" has to be one of the two most beautiful cruising shots on UA-cam. Your "ATTICUS II" and "FAIR AISLE" are absolutely stunning yachts in the traditions I grew up with. Here I should admit that I am 84 years young and grew up from infancy on my Father's boats. Then, in the USCG, I crewed on the 72' "CURLEW" out of Cape May and the Tall Ship "EAGLE" from Panama to Cuba 65 years ago. Later I owned three (DARK SIDE) Powerboats in succession. I hope you can keep going for a long time so that I can relive my youth through you. THANK YOU BOTH! And may God grant you fair winds, calm seas and safe harbors at the end of every voyage!
So glad you're all having so much fun... Looks like you were in Oaks Bluff..... I was tied up at the town dock right across from the gingerbread houses many years ago.. while on vacation
I've watched all of your videos and I think this one finally tickled my itch for good sailing videos. So nice to see you guys sailing and going out to dinner and meeting people. True cruising. I know repairs are necessary, but these are the videos I live for.
Nice sail but you guys need to start using a preventer when sailing off the wind. Once wind aft of abeam, rig a line from the end of the boom thru at least your mid deck cleat and run back to the cockpit, pull tight. Keeps the boom from jybing. Off shore or in more open water, run the line thru the a fwd cleat. One other observation. You have AIS, need to get comfortable calling other boats over VHF if in doubt of their course. AIS will give the boat's name and other key info like closest point of approach (CPA) and time to that approach (TCPA). It's only going to get more crowded out there. Be safe
Awesome sail to Martha's Vineyard guys. Too bad you couldn't stop in Cuttyhunk. Oak Bluffs is great too. Enjoy your time there. Fair winds and following seas Atticus II.
Can't wait to see you three hit the seas regularly, visiting some great spots and sharing your destinations ins and outs. You are starting to really hit what makes your channel so special, lots of screen time from both of you and your interactions with the local people. I can't wait to see the subscriptions and viewership numbers sky rocket, the Atticus 2 is looking incredible and your knowledge and comfort level with her is starting to show. Cheers ....
Such a fun episode. I haven’t sailed anything larger than a sunfish, but I love living through your adventures. Great video, keep it up. I’m so glad your getting to do some sailing. Captain Oso is such a great addition to your family, 8 can tell your both smitten.
Hiya. Love your boat and the off grid aspects. Was headed the same way with my Endeavour 32 long keel shallow draft, after living off grid on land for over 30 years. Thought of something after watching your April 2020 video and seeing those plastic trays with holes in, that you keep fruit and veg in, in the Cabin. Potential there for a cheap, and free to run Cooler - almost fridge, which can get surprisingly cold. A water evaporation Coolbox. You can stack some of those trays at a spot in the airflow, cover them with a large towel, and the cheap microfiber ones should work well. Wet the towel, and drape it over the stack of trays, let the wind evaporate it, and as it dries out, keep wetting the towel. you could even end up with a nice lot of sea salt? Worth experimenting with perhaps. I had a breathable 2 piece over suit for my motorbike when touring, and even in Summer, when it got wet, the evaporative cooling could get a bit too much. Only moving part, is water. Best if luck to you both. Bob. PS. got attacked and lost my boat, but hoping to have a motor cruiser at some point - I'm too disabled for a sailing boat any longer, and maybe will meet at an Anchorage some day. 👍🙂🏴
I just wanted to share with you guys my awesome Atticus experience. While out camping with friends, I was describing my vicarious life watching this couple sail the world and sharing their experience and experiences. "Wait? On UA-cam?" "YES UA-cam. They got a new boat recently and are sailing New Eng-" "AND a new dog?!" "OMG, Atticus!" "BUD!!!"
You're a good sailor. No wonder your crew can take a rest ; ) If I was at the helm I wouldn't have changed course when I saw that other boat. He may have been thinking the same thing as you, continually tweaking his course. You wouldn't need to make an adjustment till you were much closer and with only two boats on the water pretty good odds you weren't on a collision course anyway. Now I'll continue watching and see what cappy did. You did what you're most comfortable with and that's what matters. Loving the new boat!
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet but just tie a 6ft length of rope to your piece of artificial grass and sling it over the side and let the wake wash it for you- super clean, super quick and saves you messing about! Fair winds guys!
Careful on the run to Portland. Really no place to stop between Portland and Portsmouth without local knowledge. Lot's of fog this year. Unusual. Aim for the Portland LNB, and watch for tugs with tows. There are more than you might expect. Don't miss jewell Island and especially Don't miss Seguin Island. A bit rolly but worth it. It just gets better and better the further east you go. . . .when the weather cooperates. . . Which this year, well it isn't really so far. Also don't go between a lobster trap pickup buoy, with a vertical stick, and it's companion float line, usually floating 15 or so feet downwind or down stream. The float line is usually about 2 inches beneath the surface, and will run for your prop before you can stop. Only option is to cut, then RETIE the line. Please don't just cut it. It's usually attached to several hundred bucks worth of gear. They are all over Penobscot Bay. My record is 5 in one afternoon.
You sum up sailing in New England pretty well. It can be crazy sometimes and from experience not all boaters follow the rules and guys in speed boats do some crazy things. Thanks for sharing. We all love Oso
I also have the occasional shower beer , and bud, you earned that one. You are living the dream life, hard knocks diploma....and it looks like you have figured it out....well done..
Love the electric end! Very fun. Also, great description of coming in at the end of a day. The number of things you are doing and paying attention to is always brain taxing.
04:00 Why not just slow down 1 knot, change course aiming for the stern of the other boat and pass behind without any issue then return to your original course within a few minutes and no need to wake up the crew.
@@HiroNguy The boat on the port side wasnt that far away and easily pass behind with no big deal. Would have only taken a minute. I do it all the time.
She's learning. Remember they really haven't had to deal with a lot of boat traffic. Even some people who have been boating for years don't really know who has the right of way sometimes.
So my wife is a total 100% land lubber who hates boats and only been sailing 1 day only!! I asked her what would she do? I explained the scenario and her reply was " Without knowing any boating rules slow down let the other boat pass ahead and carry on"
Hey guys, hope this finds you well and happy! I always love the content! As a sailor in training... I would love to see more of the marina docking protocol and operational interactions. Especially now that they don't need to be in Spanish! I love the examples that you give like Leeward, in this episode... I am interested in more navigation and coordination of dock to dock. I know you do this already, I just want more more more... Thank You for everything, I love it!
As a small UA-cam channel creator (compared to yours) myself, I appreciate the time you spend creating and editing very entertaining content! I'm coming late to the game on your channel and always looking forward to the next and watching those I haven't seen yet! Thanks for all the great content and the time it takes to produce!
Hard to tell with the wide angle lens, but I probably think that other boat was trying to get close to say hi. If not racing, I always keep at least 75-100 yards off other boats. But until that time especially if under power, I wouldn’t even bother altering course if someone was on deck. If not give a wide birth or make sure you take his stern.

Great stuff guys! Thank you, ‘80 to ‘85 I lived near Chatham on the cape, loved the trips to MV as well as Nantucket. Your home is ship-shape and greatly admired! Look forward to your next port of call! Cheers buddddies 👍👍

Seeing Desiree’s sister, Gio only adds to great episode. Seems Gio and Oso bond makes me wonder how will Gio take to dealing with the unpleasant aspects of having Oso aboard?
Great content guys, I cannot believe the lack of etiquette shown by powerboat operators if somebody in Australia was to pass a close as some of those guys at speed there would be a major be a major altercation to put it mildly
I've always imagined that Martha's Vineyard was busy but thank you for showing us! Reminds me of a place in Lake Erie called Put In Bay. Crazy boat traffic in the summer.
Things don't always go well in the live on a sail boat world. That's why I really enjoyed this episode. You were both really relaxed and enjoying life. I LOVE Oso and see he is training well. I love your new boat. Love its lines and rounded stern. Also love there is only one helm station. The boats with two lose so much room. I hope you love the east coast. We live in Nova Scotia and feel it is a world class chunk of land almost surrounded by the beautiful Atlantic. Google us and take note of the Cape Breton Island Highlands. Uma enjoyed it here inc. the awesome hospitality.
I know - that was three years ago but watching older Atticus II videos that I hadn't yet seen. I had a home on Cape Cod for 20+ years and sailed out of Pleasant Bay on the Atlantic side, so exiting the Chatham Break to go anywhere. I can't believe sailors just make a quick stop in Martha's Vineyard and head through the canal. And of all places, Oak Bluff, the most touristy spot. I much prefer Vineyard Haven, Edgartown, and Nantucket. And if you are headed to Nantucket, then might as well go out Polluck Rip and take the outside route rather than the canal. Optional stops in Provincetown (P-town locally) and/or Isle of Shoals. Now that I live in Belfast, Maine I'm disappointed you didn't stop in Penobscot Bay, though not on the way to Georgetown so understandable. Disappointed that you are selling Atticus II now and doing the land life thing. Hope you stayed safe during Milton. If you get the urge to go cross county skiing this winter, let me know.
A new Galley Slave and the first thing ye do is take her out for a meal ?? The new Captain has his crew where he wants them ... right in his paws !! Love the new boat Stay Safe & Fair Winds !!
Hey guys! Paul on m/y Eileen's way here. You guys got us through the pandemic and my girlfriend is now a fan of sailing. Been following the N.E. trip and I think I'm catching up to you guys.... I mate on a 118ft private... pulling into Martha's today.... keep a look out. Would love to buy you guys a beer!
Love the little guy, he's so cute. Boy your sister is like you - like two peas in a pod. Waiting for a shot of the rear end of the boat showing her new name. Love you posts, keep having fun and stay safe
Haha... reading your comment: "Boy your sister is like you - like two peas in a pod. Waiting for a shot of the rear end...." Hang on. Where's he/she going with this?!? "... of the boat showing the new name." Ohhh. Haha
The last time I was on the ocean or near it in a boat, I lost suction to the jets when we jumped a wave. You two make me miss it so much. I can't believe how much rope is involved in sailing and I hate the smell of hemp rope, makes me sick as it reminds me of being seasick. Keep the adventure going, I look forward to the videos and watch them during lunch at work. By the way. a beer sounds good while I BBQ a salmon with a lemon and mango.
Atticus II needs a continuous solid cover (more than a dodger) from companionway incorporating the windshield, going aft past the transom, but it may have to be partially transparent, say made of polycarbonate, maybe even openable panels, to keep an eye on the sails, and the rest either with embedded shading or covered with solar panels. I'm sure you will want some shade. Trouble is, you're too dang tall! There's little room between you and the mainsail boom, and you need to stand up much of the time behind the wheel to see what's going on. You'll likely want some fabric and transparent enclosure (a dodger) attached with snaps or whatever along the lower edge of your hard lid for inhospitable weather. You may need to extend this hard cover aftward, because you may need to accomodate a wind generator past the reach of the boom, and other necessities. I'm already past my level of expertise, but these are ideas I thought might be a help. I'm hoping your refit includes a heater/air conditioner, serious refrig-freezer, and all the necessary goodies suited for extended travel. You guys have me hooked. What a team! Great episode, seriously. MV a real party spot.
Buzzard's bay and Vineyard sound is the chart i got tested for my US Sailing Coastal Navigation class... But I won't pretend I even virtually sailed there ! 😉 Oh and it's funny to see you with all that traffic ... That's how I learned sailing, so I'd not even bother mentioning that ! Nice vid, once more. And btw, I can share my voltmeter..
Cool. Looks like all the hard work is paying off. Glad to see you having a good time. Have you had any difficulty finding a slip when you want one? Wasn't sure if transient moorage was hard to come by. Have you considered adding a couple of grommets to your puppies pee pad so you can hook a line to it and drag it behind the boat for a while? My wife and I took our 3 month old daughter sailing along the coast of Alaska for 2 months. We used cloth diapers and I would tie the soiled ones to a line, drag it behind the boat for a while and rinse them in fresh water. It worked really well especially for the stinky diapers.. : )
My girlfriend and I were watching and at the end when you said "ladies like a man who..." I was about to start in with my "Not all women" commentary, and then... What a treat! Lol. I laughed so hard at the electricity bit. Please, keep up the queer inclusive language 🤣
Kind of surprised that you haven't installed netting on your stanchions, at least around the cockpit area, even as unsightly as it may be. Especially after you mentioning how The Captain gets bumped around by lines and fenders all the time. It doesn't take much to knock the little dude overboard, and even with his PFD on, the increased traffic while approaching a channel, or port, is the last place that you want anyone going overboard. Just my thoughts. Best wishes, and glad to see that you guys are getting to see more sea time.
"Is that bacon i smell? (no) yeah, that's a problem isn't it". love it!!! well played sir
I don't know why I like watching you guys so much. It's just so real and personal. Watched other sailling channels and never felt any connection with the authors.
I agree with you.

Cheers buds
Looking so forward to the big crossing
11:09 Bless You D...
Shower beer is theee best.
Love watching you on the new Atticus 😍. Having a beer while in the shower? Great idea! 🍺Entertaining content as always. Keep up the good work.
Ooo, ooo, ooo! This video shows stuff I've seen at a place where I've been! None of your other viewers have been to Martha's Vinyard, right?
Glad to see you guys out sailing again, enjoying more, and fixing less! Happy Saturday!
Have to remember the bacon wording!
Nothing preps you more than racing small sailboats about right of way rules - even better with Arnold’s voice.
Love the lil dude.
Loved this videos, seeing family join you is great. What is going on with Atticus I?
You buds were so incredibly funny in this video!! I was in stitches! This one was so worth the wait. Take care and sail on!
I like your video thanks 😊😊
Hey Guys ! we just love your new boat great to see you both so happy ...Best wishes from New Zealand XXXX
You remind me of so many sailors who do not really care about the rules of the right of way. Stay safe.
Read that 7 times. What?
