    Today we are going to look at two exercises that will use the G major pentatonic scale and take you from one end all the way to the other, helping you master the entire fretboard and helping you jam from left to right. A lot of times when we learn a new scale we learn the shapes vertically, but if you do any of my solo lessons you will quickly see the ability to shred and jam from left to right is fundamental to your success as a player. These exercises when incorporated in your playing will not only have you playing the entire fretboard, learning the ukulele fretboard, but it will also have you soloing like a pro on your ukulele, tabs on screen to help you learn faster!
    To incorporate these ideas in your playing start slow, around 60 BPM and play each note as a quarter note. Do this daily in your practice and build up speed, once you get to around 100 BPM return to 60 and do the same exercise with 18th notes. If you want to you can do the same thing again with 16th note once you have reached 100 BPM with the 8th notes.
    Incorporate this into your playing daily, within a month your Ukulele skills will be much more developed and you will be really moving around the fretboard, when it comes time to shred a solo in G major, E minor or a blues solo in E you wont be stuck in that same position 4 but you'll be all over the fretboard, all the way up to the 14th fret of the A string!
    Let's see you play it! / tenthumbspro

    Thanks a lot, Tyler, very helpful.
    But still, I dont fully understand how to use it in soloing, how to connect pentatonic shapes along the fretboard.
    I believe everyone here agrees, that a lesson from you on explaining that would be very useful

    • @TenThumbsProductions
      @TenThumbsProductions  3 роки тому +2

      I think that is a great idea. What do you think would have more value to you as a learner "How to connect pentatonic scale shapes" or "How to turn a scale into a solo"

    • @koster1ntrue
      @koster1ntrue 3 роки тому +1

      @@TenThumbsProductions Well, for me personally the first one would be more useful. Soloing in one scale is easier. Still I would watch both videos a thousand times, cause blues soloing is the most exiting part in playing ukulele. And your videos improve it a lot)

    Tyler, love these lessons they are really helpful.
    I’ve been one of your patreons for some time but I find it really hard to find the tabs and other things I’m looking for on your Patreon page .......am I doing something wrong?
    Where can I find the tabs for this video?

    • @TenThumbsProductions
      @TenThumbsProductions  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Steve, I am putting together the tabs for this one right now, I am a little behind as I like to have the tabs ready when the video is ready but tomorrow I'm flying for the first time in the covid era. On the app, or if you are on the mobile version of the site on your phone or ipad, unfortunately there isn't a search button, if you are on a computer though you will see a search button, that is one way to find the tabs. Another is pinned in the first comment here on youtube you will see a direct link to the tab, so if you are on youtube and vibing with the lesson just scroll to the top of the comment section and you will see a pinned comment from me that will take you directly to the tab, that also means you can search for the lessons on my home page on youtube as well and once you find the lesson on youtube just go to the comment section and and you'll see the direct link. The last way, and this isn't the best way to find a specific tab but a great way to explore content that maybe you didn't know we had, is on Patreon there are tags. "Low-G" "Scales" "Blues" "70s Music" "Riff" and you can click each on and they will take you to all the lessons that have that tag, that is a great way to explore content you are interested in when you are looking for a lesson to do. If you'd like to see how that works here is a two minute video I did that shows you exactly all the different ways to find and download the PDFs ua-cam.com/video/1HrQ7akt_sw/v-deo.html&feature=emb_title Hopefully this will take your experience with us to the next level and REALLY get you shredding friend!

    If you have someone playing a blues shuffle on guitar in the key of E and you want to jam with them, is this the scale (Eminor) that you should use solo along with them on?

    • @TenThumbsProductions
      @TenThumbsProductions  3 роки тому

      Yes, that is correct, but to be specific the E minor pentatonic not the E minor scale, the E minor scale has 2 extra notes that don't sound that good but the E minor pentatonic is a perfect fit. There is also a scale called the E blues scale, which is the E minor pentatonic with one extra note, the flat 5th, that sounds really great too. If you'd like to learn more about the blues scale here is a tutorial we did for it ua-cam.com/video/JgCIX5aRE3w/v-deo.html

      @@TenThumbsProductions I really appreciate the insight. I know you get a lot of love from people already, but I wanted to let you know that your videos really have been great. I am truly getting a better understanding of the fretboard, which is massively elevating my play quickly. Keep doing what you're doing, and I'm going to check the specific blues scales now since I've been mainly focused on the pentatonics. Stay classy with that uke, brain and attention span, my friend.

    Is it best to always pluck with the thumb on all for this exercise or can the index finger be used?

    • @TenThumbsProductions
      @TenThumbsProductions  Рік тому +1

      That is a matter of preference. I mix between all thumb and thumb on the G and C strings and index on the E and A
