India says it accidentally fired missile into Pakistan due to "technical malfunction"

- India said on Friday it had accidentally fired a missile into Pakistan this week because of a "technical malfunction" during routine maintenance, giving its version of events after Pakistan summoned India's envoy to protest.
Military experts have in the past warned of the risk of accidents or miscalculations by the nuclear-armed neighbours, who have fought three wars and engaged in numerous smaller armed clashes, usually over the disputed territory of Kashmir.
Meanwhile, a Pakistani military spokesman told a news conference on Thursday evening that a "high-speed flying object" originating from the northern Indian city of Sirsa had crashed in eastern Pakistan.
"The flight path of this object endangered many national and international passenger flights both in Indian and Pakistani airspace as well as human life and property on ground," said Maj.-Gen. Babar Iftikhar.
"Pakistan strongly protests this flagrant violation and cautions against recurrence of any such incident in future," he said.
Tensions have eased in recent months, and the incident, which may have been the first of its kind, immediately raised questions about safety mechanisms.

It was not a mistake. It was a test to check Pakistan's defence capabilities. I have no doubt about that.

That’s not the case. Read the report when you carried out your test, the missile could have actually crashed into air traffic. Pakistan firing an anti missile during peace time would have further endangered air traffic.

The total time from pick up till its impact on the ground was 6 minutes and 46 seconds and covered 260 km distance .However, the time it stayed in the Pakistani territory was for 3 minutes and 44 seconds and covered 124 km .
