The Nautilus is to me a beautiful, fascinating and intelligent animal. The Nautilus shell in my collection is quite old and I purchased it from another collector. I never take fresh shells. It is sad to see shells for sale that have been taken for trade before they were old enough to carry on their species. Our oceans and sea life need protection.
I have bought the book: Nautilus: Beautiful Surviver. I had to buy it from another far away country. The nautilus is the most amazing animal and they actually can be taught things using food as a motivator. They also are able to remember what they have learned. In my shell collection, I do have shells of these animals which came from other collections. I would never take a fresh shell as they are over harvested just for the shell trade to make money. We must conserve this wonderful creature.
Fascinating animal, and beautiful. I expect, that their relatives, the Ammonites, also could survived, because much of the deep sea is never explored. But an animal lived for 500 million years, and then came the worst predator ever, a virus called human. Same here for Coelacanth, Horseshoe crab, Sturgeons, some shark species and much more.
It's such a sad tragedy that one of the world's oldest creatures is now possibly an endangered species. I understand that so little is known about them that scientists don't actually know if they are endangered or not, but that they have been completely wiped out in certain of their Indo-Pacific habitats through over fishing. Typical greedy people! In Palau and the Philippines fishermen have discovered that they can get them to come up to the surface from their 300-500 metre preferred day time depths by baiting them with chicken .. JUST LEAVE THEM ALONE!! Please don't buy their shells or buttons etc made from them, etc!
I never saw a Nautilus shell, but i would like to know if the thickness of the shell become more thin near the aperture (peristome) ? (i'm working on ammonites and i'm sure it's the case for them)
I would not wonder, that mankind has erased a species which lived on this planet for so long. I feel very sorry for species of animals living together with humans.

you forgot to mention his form connected with universal sacred geometry and how come some fish have this ability and knowledge? we were thought that we are the most intelligent creture on earth ,yet underwater are so many way wiser than us

I hope they never find the most elusive species. Humans are very definitely NOT responsible enough to know its whereabouts.
