I was wondering how it's done if the shift starts eg. A 5pm & finishes 2am. 5-6pm is normal pay, then 6-10pm is 15% extra & 10pm-2am is 38% extra?

Thanks, as a nurse our schedules are always all over the place with day, evening, night, differentials, holidays, bonuses, overtime. It is quite difficult to understand our pay stubs and I would like to do the math because there always seems to be hours missing..

Hi there, thank you for this tutorial.
The thing is, my pay rate changes depending on my start time AND end time.
    Example :
    Mon-Fri 08:00-19:00 Pay Rate = £10
    Mon-Sat 19:00-08:00 Pay Rate = £15
    W/E Sat-Mon 08:00-08:00 Pay Rate = £20
Ideally I’d like to just enter the day and times that I worked (ie Monday 8am - 6pm) and have the
spreadsheet calculate it all to the penny, based on the day and rates.
    Is this even possible?🤔

I really appreciate your work! Just a quick question, could you please let me know how to tweak the formula if the night shift ends by 23:00 and there's no change in date?

I've been searching something similar to this forever. I never knew what to seach for... but thanks alot. Except i want to automatically calculate night shift pay as any time after sunset.. which theres isn't a sunset time function in excel

Glad I could help! The sunset time could be specified by you in a cell and then the lookup could return after that time but before another.

I've got a interesting situation. I need to calculate Machine hours that runs 24 hours across 3 shifts. Its pretty easy to calculate formula when its running back-to-back every shift. But, on a Friday, the machine shuts down at 10:30pm and is back running at 11:00pm on Sunday night. How do I account for this gap? I have been doing it manually for each product and we do 35-40 in a week and its getting annoying. Can anyone help?

Hey. not sure if you’ll get this but do you have any videos on creating this if someone gets paid different amounts per hour depending on the time? Like, between for example, 5am and 6am an hourly amount, between 6am and 8am an hourly amount, then between 8am and 5pm a standard amount. any ideas?

Sure anything is possible. But it would need looking into more detail for the specifics beyond this comment section.

Computergaga Managed to get something to work..... but wonder if you’ve ever used Excel on iPad?
Trying to copy the same formula down the same column...... More detail....... I am calculating the different pay rates on the one row with a total at the end. I’m doing this for each day of the month. So i want to calculate the same total in each row..... i’ve tried to do the “FILL” for each row but it seems to change the formulas for each date.
I have a set cells for the wage amount, and obviously want this to remain the same but when I do the “FILL” and drag it down, it changes the cells the formula is done from. Any ideas?
Hope that makes sense. Thanks in advance.

My company has shifts from for example 9 pm to 4 am.
How do i make a formula that adds 14USD per hour before midnight, and all hours from 12 am - 6 am pays 18USD

This is shown in the video Lasse. By setting up the day and night tables - you can have whatever table you want. And then the time shifts.

Sure, you can set up a table like in the video and determine where the hours fall and what rate to charge.
