Robert was a big fan of Marvin Gaye & wanted to do a tribute,, but he wouldn't until he had it absolutely perfect & respectful.. .R.I.P. Marvin & Robert🙏❤️
The "Originals" to both these songs were by Marvin Gaye "Mercy,, Mercy Me" & "I Want You"..Robert combined both to make a tribute to Marvin,, From one legend to another.
Loved loved Robert Palmer. My fav singer of the 70s with the Double Fun album (and album cover). I listened to Every Kinda People a million times, so funky and cool. He died way too young
Love these two although they were originally done by Marvin Gaye. This was Robert Palmer's tribute to him. Robert Palmer has this beautiful soulful voice. Every Kind of People, Pressure Drop, Sneaking Sally through the alley are a few suggestions
This is NOT the original. Love Robert's cover of these wonderful songs, but if you haven't already, I strongly encourage you to listen to Marvin's originals. No one does it like the legendary Marvin Gaye. Thanks for this great reaction! ✌💙✌
Forever love my man Marvin Gaye ! Thanks Robert Palmer for keeping another sweet version of this song ! And please watch dancers on the "Motown 25th Anniversary show dance to "I want you" as Marvin sings and plays piano !

Mmmm, always loved Robert Palmer since I was a kid. He had a handful of mega hits in the 80s, but honestly, I dig this and his other stuff from the 70s so much more. ❤❤❤glad you enjoyed!
@theneonrabbit...Totally agree...the warmth and emotional depth in the Marvin Gaye original is missing. I would have preferred an approach like Dwight Yoakum's rockabilly version of the Motown classic, "The Locomotion", where he makes the song work in his own way without sacrificing the power and feel of the original.
I think you'd like the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's 1970 rendition of "Mr Bojangles" which you can find here: ua-cam.com/video/KKm_EgDI_-E/v-deo.html It's kinda heart-rending but I still love it after all these years.✌
Much as I LOVE Marvin Gaye...I ALWAYS prefer this version...RP was just such an emotional, versatile singer. I think it's because he himself loved music of all kinds so much. Much loved and so much missed. God bless him.
I think if you liked this version by Robert Palmer, you would like Leslie Odom, Junior‘s tribute to Marvin Gaye. Link below. ua-cam.com/video/nwlIlnSNb_w/v-deo.html
The beat/groove of the original "Mercy Mercy Me" had such an amazing feel to it that trying to "update" it just didn't work. It felt like someone driving with one foot on the gas and one on the brake, jerky. I normally dig Robert Palmer but this one just didn't work. He nailed the vocals but.... fail.

Robert Palmer is so underrated as a vocalist. His catalog is deep and full of classics. Thank you for playing his music. RIP Robert.

How great was Robert Palmer! We lost him too soon. Liking your channel 🙂!
Fabulous.
Every Kinda people is a must!!
This song was originally sung by Marvin Gaye, who also wrote it. Another title of Mercy, mercy me is “The Ecology”.
The beat/rhythms on this tune are so inviting. Once I play my 58 piece Rock drum kit, then do the Bongos/Congas/Timbales. Too Much Fun

I'm shocked that you didn't realise that this is a combination of two Marvin Gaye songs, and a tribute to him from Robert.
