  • This video tutorial is about the Longmill 30x30 CNC router table build construction by Sienci Labs, with the CNC router dimensions. You will see how to build a simple CNC router table. CBC router tables need to be sturdy to avoid wobble of the machine. This DIY CBC router table build is good for any CNC route, hobby desktop and benchtop.
    The long mill CNC router needs to mount on a table at least 44"x44". That is the footprint of the Longmill 30x30 CNC router.

    → Table height: 31 to 32 inches (not recommended to exceed 32")

    This is my second or third time watching this. I took notes this time as my shop build is coming to an end. I need electricity run to it and my climate control installed. In the meantime, I can cut 2x4s in the cold. Next week!! 😂 Now... onto Sketchup to make my plans so I can figure out how much wood I need and my cut lists!

    Garrett, I am kinda modeling my table after your design, simply because it makes sense. I am putting mine on wheels so I can store it in a corner and pull it out for cleaning or maintenance if necessary. My shop is a tiny little 12' x 16' shed, so space is critical for me. Between this and my table saw, I don't have a LOT of room left over, but everything IS on wheels to make it easier for storage. I am also putting a shelf at the bottom for whatever...and I think I will build a drawer or two underneath for storage. I'll send a pic when it is done!!!

    Thank you for all the guidance! I'm building a table almost exactly like yours right now. I'm building my table a little taller because I'm a little on the taller side and I can't stand all the counter tops and tables that I regularly use being positioned so near to the ground. I've used urinals positioned higher than the countertops in my house. I'm trying at least 34 inches tall, but we'll see. My workbenches are 36" high, and they're about perfect. • @gregsettle1581
      @gregsettle1581 2 роки тому +1

      @@IDCWoodcraft It really is interesting Garrett. I think there are a few things that make your videos so helpful, but I will mentioned two: First, you go through every single step along the way in a process; no skipping, no glossing over things, and often you will even throw in extra tidbits like "while you are doing this step, you might also want to think about .... Second, you film your videos in real world situations, like what all of us are going to run into. "Oh, I forgot to recalculate that toolpath, or I forgot to save that setting after changing it." That's real life and it makes it much more personable and relatable than a carefully orchestrated video of perfection. And when that mistake is something we are likely to make as well, then it is a total win-win!

      @IDCWoodcraft  2 роки тому +1

      @@gregsettle1581 thanks for that feedback. It's nice to know that imperfection is actually something people like, because it is real world. It's never as easy as many make it look.

He threw himself into the table and it did not move (at all). He got mad and walked away. I laughed at him. He did not talk to me for the rest of the night. • @IDCWoodcraft
      @IDCWoodcraft  2 роки тому

      Preston, I am leaning towards no because you might see some inaccuracy in your cuts during rapid movements. Its another axis that isn't constrained properly and could lead to errors in your cuts. You could get wood dollies to move the CNC around your garage.

Longmill provides a more barebones aesthetic and price friendly so its got me hooked so far! Gonna go all out with the limit switches too. @@IDCWoodcraft Thank you for getting back to me so soon. Also want to thank you for all the great content you produce. Wish I'd seen this video before I bought my Foxalien 4040 XE. Wasn't sure if that was a different model altogether as it looks different. When I'm able to upgrade I'll definitely check your content to see what you're recommending.

    Off topic a bit, but is there a spindle available for this machine? One, available or recommended by Sienci Labs?

    • @IDCWoodcraft
      @IDCWoodcraft  Рік тому

      Mark, there isn't a spindle available from them as of yet. I've known others who have put spindles on their machines. Personally, I don't find this necessary since it runs great with the hand router and is really designed for it!

      Patrick, the best way is to buy from the company directly. The only thing I ask is you use this link. It gives me some pocket change back when you pick yours up. Here's the link: sienci.com/product/longmill-mk2/?ref=IDCWOODCRAFT

    Hello I’m really torn between the 30x30 and the 30x48
    With your 30x30 do you find any limitations for most projects. It’s totally a space issue as the larger machine needs a 78”x48”
    I have a full shop and running out of room
    Thank you

      davidshockley6972, it really depends on what you are looking to make brother! One big bonus with the longmill is you can start with the 30x30 and upgrade your machine to the 30x48 later.

    How did you make sure the top was flat?

    • @IDCWoodcraft
      @IDCWoodcraft  2 роки тому

      Hey tangobayus, great question! There's lots of ways you can do this, the best way is to get an I beam level and put a set of feeler gauges underneath it to measure flatness. If it's not flat you can shim the underside of the table to make it flat. After that, I would mount the spoilboard and surface it. Then, the spoilboard will be parallel to the cutting surface in all areas and you are ready to cut! Hope this helps!

      @tangobayus 2 роки тому +1

      @@IDCWoodcraft Would it make sense to use steel 2x3 or 2x4 on possibility they would be better than wood? Or angle aluminum. Maybe make the top of 2 layers of 1/2" plywood and shim the top piece. (The grain would be turned 90 deg.)

    • @IDCWoodcraft
      @IDCWoodcraft  2 роки тому

      @@tangobayus @tangobayus The good thing about steel is it won't react to environmental changes in humidity and temperature. I don't particularly like to use plywood, unless you're using birch ply. You may want to consider sealing it as well. That will help with environmental changes as well. Hope all that helps

    Hey Garrett, love your videos, sir.
    Wanted to reach out regarding the 30x30 MK2.
    I purchased mine a few months ago and just received it probably 3 weeks ago and with all other projects I’ve been working on, I’m just getting to it. I currently have my table built and am in the process of adding my spoilboard to the surface now. My table dimensions came out to 48” deep
    45” wide
    & I believe I am at 36” tall (with the spoilboard)
    I elected to mount a 3/4” piece of plywood for the top, with a 3/4” sheet of MDF on top of that, with another layer of 3/4” MDF strips and Ttracks…. Is this overkill or an issue/concern ?
    I appreciate your help and any advice!
    Thanks
