When You Just Want To Go Back Home....

- We've all had those days where if feels like everything you touch breaks or goes wrong one way or another right? I hate those days 😐 The good thing is they don't come along that often. In this video I thought I'd show you how to bang out a set of rear shocks on the back of a Nissan Altima and then rust happened..... ughhh gotta love salty NY.
-Enjoy! - Авто та транспорт
It was just one of those days folks. I swear anything I got near either broke, fell apart, was on backorder, shipped to the wrong address, was wrong or just plain didn't fit! I am glad this doesn't happen every day I'll tell you that much. Funny thing was I thought I had a handle on things and stole this job from Josh to have an "easy job," I could show the people. Well, you saw how that went haha. Till next time.
-Eric O.
PS: I seem to be getting an overwhelming amount of comments stating I did not put the rubber cap on the right side shock. You might want to skip ahead to the 22:45 😅
Had the same week here I the uk buddy😅
We all have these days that make us feel like King Midas in reverse...everything we touch turns to sh**...
Eric just hug Vanessa!
Makes you want to light the place on fire and drive away, doesn't it? Lol
Glad my shop was in NC...Now retired. Glad I had the top shock sockets. Somedays you're the bug, other days the windshield.
Pearls of wisdom from Mrs O.: “What’s *really* wrong? Nothing.”
Love that the two of you are a team, just as it should be. If one’s having a bad day, the other’s there to help out, even if it’s just to lend an ear. You’re both very lucky to have each other, and it’s a genuine pleasure to see you both together.
That's not a drill bit. THATS a drill bit 😂

After seeing all that rust from salt I will never complain about living in florida. No snow, now salt. Just warm salt air. And an ocasional hurricane. Great videos.
The lesson here is that you would never have a good day without a bad day somewhere in-between.
When your wife is the reason you keep going.. it's a special lesson us city boys need to learn.. RESPECT 🙏🏾
The words every man wants to hear his wife say "You're a good service man "
I almost got teary eyed at the end . Imagine being Mrs. O and having to listen to that whining . LOL
@@CraigGrant-sh3in 😂😂
Better than "You're a good service, man"
“Didn’t cost the lady any extra, my mistake.” That’s honest service. No rust tax.
I'll let you know that if i ever one day find a wife.😄
The comment near the end where you say" I don't even know why anyone watches you at this point, can't even do a shock" is exactly why I watch. Your comical way of dealing with the set backs that anyone who works on stuff runs into is hilarious.😂 Just makes me smile 😊 And then there's Ms. O putting it all into perspective at the end. It's all really nothing to get down on yourself about. But you already knew that. 😉
The repair issues and errors that are made are very helpful to everyone. The best lesson learned is that not everything will go by the $25 repair book. Often it is these few extra steps that are needed to be able to complete the job and then some. It's one of the great parts of this channel in that these are included when they do happen, instead of often edited out to the night time after shot as in some others.
@@Eromatic agreed 💯👍🏻
BECAUSE IF MAMA AINT HAPPY , NO ONE IS HAPPY!
and .. HAPPY WIFE HAPPY LIFE ......
That's what happens in the rust belt. Stuff breaks, and you have to figure ways to fix it. Eric O did the right thing by cutting the stud flush and drilling it out and using a rivet nut in place of it.
One thing I've learned is to never ever ever ever under any circumstances say "this should be easy". It always ends up being one of those one broken bolt away from a three day ordeal cases. Thanks for all you do Eric!
I’ve been two days at the junkyard working on a single bolt. Maybe today will be the day! 😂
My favorite is " Where almost done"
@@Deadbuck73 You can do it, don't give up!
@@f0r3v3r_ I didn’t make it back today. Maybe tomorrow. Hope it’s still there! 😂 I need help… in more ways than one!
@@f0r3v3r_ it happened this afternoon. Went in there with the sawzall and that last bolt bit it. Then right through the track bar. Brought her home and got the green wrench fired up and soon enough the castle nut was spinning! Then we went shopping and found some new headlight housing that take the h4 bulbs. 💥 🤯 love the puck n pull!

BUT THAN LEARN FROM IT
If you have never screwed, you haven’t ever done nothing !!!
"Stop your whining" Good advice from the boss.
Eric, the cutting off the stud, drilling it out and fitting the rivnut may seem just matter of fact to you but I was seriously impressed.
I went to my son's work today in order to use their lift so I could replace a torque conv lock solenoid. Spent a few great hours working alongside my son, and he has a beautiful large shop with drawers of neatly kept tools and battery powered ratchets. The warm trans fluid dripping on my arms and shirt was almost as relaxing as a day at a spa. Today was a very good day.
You know it's going to be a classic when Mrs.O pokes her head through the window and says, 'your a good service man.' Got to add, it was.
I had the chance to purchase an Exxon station back in 1985 as the owner was just too old to operate this business. I really wanted this station as it was located in a busy intersection. He had a great reputation for great service and long standing customer relations. About 2 weeks later I went back to make and sign a deal. I had two other great mechanics that I would bring along. The next morning the owner was rushed to a hospital with a stroke and passed away. His wife was there and I spoke to her about the business. She said he was over worked and the station was always open for service 7-5:00pm 5 days a week. Pump gas open 365 days 7-9:00pm. She said do I have children and said yes. She said he very seldom saw his kids or her. I decided right there it wasn't for me. I stayed at the dealership for 12 years and decided to attend college at night and earn a automotive degree. Once I received my 2 year degree I was offered a job with the state as an automotive Instructor. I continued my education and earned my Masters degree in Special Ed and social work. I continued teaching automotive and attended GM, Chrysler,Toyota and Honda. I earned 2 Masters with Honda out of Mt. Holley NJ. I finally retired in 2012 from the state and glad I took her advise. With your knowledge of automotive you could really benefit by trying 2-3 nights a week at a local automotive school teaching part time. I wish you the best and slowdown!!!! John
It's a great story. BUT Mr O is an educator. It comes in a different form on UA-cam. He chooses the content of what he wants to share. 100k+ and counting people educated/entertained compared to maybe 20 in a classroom setting.
You can’t have good days without bad days, because the good days would just become ‘just another day’.
I know it was a tough day for you, but this is my favorite kind of video. What to do when things go wrong defines experience.
Run!!! 😅
So nice of you to have an Emotional Support Wife. Those are very hard to find! Thanks for taking us along, Mr. O., and thanks for keeping Mr. O in proper operating condition, Mrs. O. Even great mechanics require periodic maintenance, especially when operated in salty conditions.
Well, if he had an Emotional Support Girlfriend, his wife probably wouldn't like that very much....😁
Mrs O didn't leave him for a black man yet
You need days like that to appreciate the good days.
You married a good woman she cares for and knows how to make it better.
The world has not been the same since the pandemic, hope things improve as time goes by.
As Vanessa has said you’re a GOOD serviceman!
I think you’re a good husband and father and a very honest businessman. The people of your area are lucky to have you help keep their rusty, crusty vehicles operating. You provide a very valuable service.
Thank you for your work making and posting videos including the outtakes.
That's what makes a good relationship, you have a supportive partner to keep you motivated and to give you that emotional boost when you most need it. My wife was also good at that when I was working (retired now) as I remember many a time when she said stay focused, If you can't fix it nobody can fix it.
If it’s any consolation, I would have spent an hour breaking plastic tabs off the interior trim to weld a new upper bolt on. Your solution was 100x better than mine would have been. Thanks for teaching me!
Quite the amazing video! Well done. A mechanic friend of mine once said, "You can be the smartest guy in the world, but without tools, you're doing nothing." I think of him often as I watch you work. Peace to you and yours.
That broken stud would have added hours for me as a home mechanic.
@@safffff1000 On otherhand, maybe it would not have happened without impact gun?
You have a good obviously loving wife, good loving family, successful business, a fantastic sense of humor and playfulness. Life is good! You’re appreciated by us diy guys who always learn.
Cheer up, Eric! These days are going to happen, and they're going to suck. But you have your successful shop, a lovely Mrs O., great kids and an internet rooting for ya. Write this week off, take a weekend day for you, and slay 'em next week!
Hi Eric. I used to have a neighbour who mowed his lawn AND cleaned his car daily. You are not alone! On his holiday week, he would scarify the lawn till there was nothing left and then re-seed it.
Even when everything goes wrong in the shop, you still have a wonderful wife.
That is more than a lot of guys have. Lucky bastid! 😇
Life has it's ups and downs, we just have to learn to roll with the punches. Count your blessings Eric O you have a lovely loving wife to make your days brighter. Best wishes to you and the family.
Sorry for your bad few days. Just know you and the family make our day with every posted content. Thank you team S.M.A. We appreciate your hard work. I never complain any more about a bit of rust on my vehicles when working on them. Colorado don’t have the salt as much but we do have the same politicians.
Your neighbor needs a air powered lawn mower that sounds like a air ratchet
Amen! Checking in from Illinios!
Keep on truckin Eric. We're rooting for you. I'm glad you have Mrs. O. around for the tough days.
Hey Eric! You gotta get a sound effect for the WD-40 like you have for brake cleaner!! That'll piss the haters off so much!!!! LOL!
YES!!!
Take heart, Eric, we all have one of those days. Thanks for posting anyway. We always appreciate it.
The ending had me cracking up, especially Mrs. O's words of wisdom, lol. Also loved how you fixed the stud. It'd definitely been a bigger pain in the butt if you didn't have that tool to put the nut and bolt in.
Not his first shock stud rodeo
Your running commentary is a big part of why we watch. You make the job go by that much better and you have Mrs O to smack you with a newspaper when you start to get silly and whiny. You guys are the best.
I'm glad I wasnt the only one at the shop feeling like that today. Just one of those days where you wonder why you do, what you do.
Hahaha need an air chisel to break off the salt 😮
Jack hammer for some of it. I've never seen you bust out the air hammer to remove all the sunshine for your cars 😂

Thank you for showing us the bad days also. Most people in videos only show you when everything is great and the best. We all have those days and they too shall pass!
Hey man, life is like that for all of us some days. Appreciate you sharing your ups and downs with us. Your wife is right, YOU ARE A GOOD SERVICE MAN!!! Hang in there Eric!
you got a lift....you got a good wife.....what's the problem?
that pretty little gal in the opening video footage has some real concern for you, she is a treasure, but you already know that. Seriously...every job you guys take on in the rust belt is a super challenge and with your extremely high performance standards it takes a toll on you and other auto techs. You are a credit to the trade but be careful to not drill yourself into the ground trying to do too much.
Mr. And Mrs. O are relationship goals! 💜
Man, Eric, if that was you on a bad day, you have nothing to worry about. Superb quality work. (That broken bolt would have been a major issue for many a mechanic.)
Got that right! I still don't know what he put in there.
@@geezerhullit's a rivet nut setter. Works just like a regular rivet setter.
Eric, its not the mistake that matters, its how you fix that mistake. I know a lot of guys would have just installed the one nut and shipped it. God bless Mrs O. You are one lucky guy Eric.
It is SO NICE HAVING THE PROPER TOOLS! GREAT JOB, ERIC! A sympathetic wife helps a lot as well!
Feck off with the Caps Lock spacca. Thank you.
We have those days man! You are still one of the best teachers in UA-cam… keep kicking butt!!
One of the best "sign offs" ever!
Mrs O's face, as she was laughing at you throwing a hissy fit! Priceless
You win some, you lose some Mr O, that's the game we are in. Wouldn't it be boring if everything went to perfection, no video content to show when things go awry!!
The older you get, the more often those days happen. I wish you well and your content/diagnosis is always top shelf.
Eric, As a fellow "Upstater" thank you so much for introducing me to Fluid Film. I hope never to see these problems on my 4Runner.
I'm in Central New York state. Don't waste time and money on fluid film. It works fine in body cavities, but washes off the underside. I can't go a whole winter with fluid film. Buy waxoyl. It's a European product. Just make sure that you buy a pressure feed gun to spray it with. It's an expensive product, but it works. Also comes in aerosol cans.
Hang in there Eric! If it's any consolation, you made my day brighter!
I love Vanessa! She has a great sense of humor and it is obvious that she is a great person. Thanks for all the great videos Eric and Vanessa.
Yes she does seem like a sweetheart she has that aura about her! A solid good person I can tell, and it was really cool watching her change her tires mount them and all that, I’ve never even worked one of those tire machines and I worked on cars all my life
Great real life video Eric , Just another day in our motor trade , at least Vanessa understands how it is 🙂 , days like these where as you say everything goes wrong , parts guy brings the wrong stuff, opened boxes with bits missing , brake pads where they have obviously been previously tried to be fitted (but are new ), yesterday I spent 2 hours plus removing a windscreen washer bottle from a vauxhall Corsa (European GM) over here in the wet UK ,as the bottle was contaminated with household washing up liquid and would not squirt the washers , pump motor was spinning , I blew backwards down the pipe , it worked for 2 minutes, small filter blocked with snot , the bottle was riveted to the inner wing that were made out of concrete , very hard , snapped a drill bit inside the rivet , got the bottle off , washed all the fungus out of the bottle , re fitted it back to the car , filled it back up with water and screen wash additive, now the friggin pump has stopped working , don't we love our job 😂👍
How could I guess the pump would fail after all that?? I'm cynical.
Mrs O is a treasure
I wasn't aware of a Matco ratchet/hammer combo.....
I'll have ask my Matco guy about that the next time I see him.😂
Like Eric stated in video some time ago " every tool has a hammer side "
It's such a pleasure to see the love and respect with which you & Mrs. O treat each other. Love your videos.
As a small engine mechanic of 40 years with my own shop, I watch these videos as a comfort I am not the only mechanic that has rough days lol Its what I signed up for as a mechanic so it's my own fault.
I feel your pain - some days you get the elevator and some days you get the shaft. Keep on keepin on!
Can’t wait to see the video when you’re working on that guy’s mower! 🤪
He'll go over and steal it in the middle of the night just to fix it.
I think the mower is just a little pay back for the peep peep very time Eric goes out the door.
That’s funny, when Mrs, O says, do you need me to pet you?
And don’t be hard on yourself. You were just like a doctor. When something goes wrong you were able to fix it. Don’t get frustrated. You saw the problem and corrected it and moved on and got it done! You are the Man in the “Rust Belt”
Anybody can fix things when it’s 70° and 30% humidity!
I’m retired now and I don’t want to pretend I’m in your league Mate but I can surely remember days like these.
I can relate. My brother in law just discovered he has a cyst in his 3rd ventricle, in his brain causing infectious encephalitis, requiring brain surgery in two days. Yeah, makes for a bad day for me, but an even worse few days for him! The good news, it’s not technically brain cancer (it’s a tumor), it IS operable, and he is at one of the premiere hospitals in the country that can treat it! Tampa General,in Florida. So I feel your frustration Eric, but remember, someone else always has it worse! Take care my friend of many years!

I’d settle for a bad day like this any day of the week, I’m not a mechanic but was in construction and the amount of times I couldn’t even get the house onto the foundations that were dug with the dimensions that were handed to me, man the amount of swear jars I filled because someone had dug the wrong side of the line strung out for them and a great big X to say dig this side, anyhoo getting carried away with my rant great job Eric you’re still number one mechanic on the tube in my opinion and certainly lots more people as well
