It was just one of those days folks. I swear anything I got near either broke, fell apart, was on backorder, shipped to the wrong address, was wrong or just plain didn't fit! I am glad this doesn't happen every day I'll tell you that much. Funny thing was I thought I had a handle on things and stole this job from Josh to have an "easy job," I could show the people. Well, you saw how that went haha. Till next time. -Eric O. PS: I seem to be getting an overwhelming amount of comments stating I did not put the rubber cap on the right side shock. You might want to skip ahead to the 22:45 😅
Pearls of wisdom from Mrs O.: “What’s *really* wrong? Nothing.” Love that the two of you are a team, just as it should be. If one’s having a bad day, the other’s there to help out, even if it’s just to lend an ear. You’re both very lucky to have each other, and it’s a genuine pleasure to see you both together.
Your running commentary is a big part of why we watch. You make the job go by that much better and you have Mrs O to smack you with a newspaper when you start to get silly and whiny. You guys are the best.
The comment near the end where you say" I don't even know why anyone watches you at this point, can't even do a shock" is exactly why I watch. Your comical way of dealing with the set backs that anyone who works on stuff runs into is hilarious.😂 Just makes me smile 😊 And then there's Ms. O putting it all into perspective at the end. It's all really nothing to get down on yourself about. But you already knew that. 😉
The repair issues and errors that are made are very helpful to everyone. The best lesson learned is that not everything will go by the $25 repair book. Often it is these few extra steps that are needed to be able to complete the job and then some. It's one of the great parts of this channel in that these are included when they do happen, instead of often edited out to the night time after shot as in some others.
That's what happens in the rust belt. Stuff breaks, and you have to figure ways to fix it. Eric O did the right thing by cutting the stud flush and drilling it out and using a rivet nut in place of it.
One thing I've learned is to never ever ever ever under any circumstances say "this should be easy". It always ends up being one of those one broken bolt away from a three day ordeal cases. Thanks for all you do Eric!
@@f0r3v3r_ it happened this afternoon. Went in there with the sawzall and that last bolt bit it. Then right through the track bar. I went to my son's work today in order to use their lift so I could replace a torque conv lock solenoid. Spent a few great hours working alongside my son, and he has a beautiful large shop with drawers of neatly kept tools and battery powered ratchets. The warm trans fluid dripping on my arms and shirt was almost as relaxing as a day at a spa. Today was a very good day.

I had the chance to purchase an Exxon station back in 1985 as the owner was just too old to operate this business. I really wanted this station as it was located in a busy intersection. He had a great reputation for great service and long standing customer relations. About 2 weeks later I went back to make and sign a deal. I had two other great mechanics that I would bring along. The next morning the owner was rushed to a hospital with a stroke and passed away. His wife was there and I spoke to her about the business. She said he was over worked and the station was always open for service 7-5:00pm 5 days a week. Pump gas open 365 days 7-9:00pm. She said do I have children and said yes. She said he very seldom saw his kids or her. I decided right there it wasn't for me. I stayed at the dealership for 12 years and decided to attend college at night and earn a automotive degree. Hi Eric. I used to have a neighbour who mowed his lawn AND cleaned his car daily. You are not alone! On his holiday week, he would scarify the lawn till there was nothing left and then re-seed it.
If it’s any consolation, I would have spent an hour breaking plastic tabs off the interior trim to weld a new upper bolt on. Your solution was 100x better than mine would have been. Thanks for teaching me!

Great real life video Eric , Just another day in our motor trade , at least Vanessa understands how it is 🙂 , days like these where as you say everything goes wrong , parts guy brings the wrong stuff, opened boxes with bits missing , brake pads where they have obviously been previously tried to be fitted (but are new ), yesterday I spent 2 hours plus removing a windscreen washer bottle from a vauxhall Corsa (European GM) over here in the wet UK ,as the bottle was contaminated with household washing up liquid and would not squirt the washers , pump motor was spinning , I blew backwards down the pipe , it worked for 2 minutes, small filter blocked with snot , the bottle was riveted to the inner wing that were made out of concrete , very hard , snapped a drill bit inside the rivet , got the bottle off , washed all the fungus out of the bottle , re fitted it back to the car , filled it back up with water and screen wash additive, now the friggin pump has stopped working , don't we love our job 😂👍
Had a day like this today. When I was a kid in Rochester, Ponderosa was the El Fancy restaurant around, so maybe you and Mrs O can have a nice date night.
I'm in Central New York state. Don't waste time and money on fluid film. It works fine in body cavities, but washes off the underside. I can't go a whole winter with fluid film. Buy waxoyl. It's a European product. Just make sure that you buy a pressure feed gun to spray it with. It's an expensive product, but it works. Also comes in aerosol cans.
Sorry for your bad few days. Just know you and the family make our day with every posted content. Thank you team S.M.A. We appreciate your hard work. I never complain any more about a bit of rust on my vehicles when working on them. Colorado don’t have the salt as much but we do have the same politicians.
It can only get better Mr O ! But as you said you conquered as always. Mrs O seemed to have made it better. Have a better evening and good day tamorah !!!! As always thanks for posting.
That’s funny, when Mrs, O says, do you need me to pet you? And don’t be hard on yourself. You were just like a doctor. When something goes wrong you were able to fix it. Don’t get frustrated. You saw the problem and corrected it and moved on and got it done! You are the Man in the “Rust Belt” Anybody can fix things when it’s 70° and 30% humidity!
Eric, its not the mistake that matters, its how you fix that mistake. I know a lot of guys would have just installed the one nut and shipped it. God bless Mrs O. You are one lucky guy Eric.
Hey man, life is like that for all of us some days. Appreciate you sharing your ups and downs with us. Your wife is right, YOU ARE A GOOD SERVICE MAN!!! Hang in there Eric!
I was hoping Mrs O to give you a huge hug. Anyway, you know there will be many days like this. Just remember. She's got your back and that's something that not many people have.
Eric, we are not perfect, and you are part of us, but the job was done right, and you thought, us a lesson. You are awesome sir, keep you chin up. You are the best.Vanessa agrees with us. Great video.Take care, thanks 😊
The ending had me cracking up, especially Mrs. O's words of wisdom, lol. Also loved how you fixed the stud. It'd definitely been a bigger pain in the butt if you didn't have that tool to put the nut and bolt in.
Yes she does seem like a sweetheart she has that aura about her! A solid good person I can tell, and it was really cool watching her change her tires mount them and all that, I’ve never even worked one of those tire machines and I worked on cars all my life
As a small engine mechanic of 40 years with my own shop, I watch these videos as a comfort I am not the only mechanic that has rough days lol Its what I signed up for as a mechanic so it's my own fault.
Great video as always. Love the screwups, the diags, and the interactions you have with Mrs O & Luna. It's always a good day when I see you've posted a new video.
Good on ya Eric for persevering!!! I don’t really know how you do this job without constantly swearing!!! I always made me feel better. 31 yrs, now retired.
I’d settle for a bad day like this any day of the week, I’m not a mechanic but was in construction and the amount of times I couldn’t even get the house onto the foundations that were dug with the dimensions that were handed to me, man the amount of swear jars I filled because someone had dug the wrong side of the line strung out for them and a great big X to say dig this side, anyhoo getting carried away with my rant great job Eric you’re still number one mechanic on the tube in my opinion and certainly lots more people as well
Man I can tell u this we all have them days. I do wanna say thank u for your true content. Being a mechanic and being a man has its moments of bullshit but we get it done proud of ya. Your content actually keeps me sane alot of times hope all is well
Exactly. We all get to thinking no one's had the BS day we just had Then Eric O shows us a Ford V10 triton where all the exhaust manifold bolts break but not above the manifold so it can be easily removed. Gets agitated and starts making a video on the other side where not a damn thing went difficult As is tradition in Manifolds 200:5688 "And thou wilt break the knuckle whenst time has come to break the knuckle. It is the toil of man and by extension his resolve to not be beaten what powers the true lineage of mechanics." Ps: see also "gah damn pos thing!" And "She's about to loosen up *tiny!* FUUUU!" LMAO sometimes ya wave the magic wand Other times the wand is a bat coming for your some. So it is so shall it be
A lady i know was haveing a noise at the rear of her car..it was the rear shock....someone only put one bolt in..they didnt bother repairing like you did..the shop charged her 400 bucks for a crap job..i love watching you work...iv learned abunch
Man period LMAO Yup I get that quite often too...usually end up throwing tools at the wall and talking to myself. As usual extremely entertaining. thanks
Eric all is well! We all have those days! You are walking, talking and performing great feats today, Be Blessed and Thankful that you are. I know I am that you are, because you would be missed! Thank you for you patients in this video and the lessons that I learned from you. 👀 It may have been a mistake but at least now I know how to fix it!😃❤ Gods Blessings on you and your family! 🙏 USAF/ Orlando, Fl
I can empathize with you on the lawn mowing. Here in SE Texas in the fall, it's Friday night football. Wife & I like to sit on the screened-in patio and listen to our hometown team's game on the radio. Invariably, the neighbor would crank up his lawn mower. After it was already dark, he was still mowing WITH A FLASHLIGHT!!! Argh.....
Astro makes a drill attachment that installs threaded inserts and another that installs rivets. I have both on my service truck, absolutely awesome tools
I used to do a lot of service work on my vehicles. Mainly because i wanted it done to my higher expectations however, I always hated when that one bolt breaking added a lot of time to the job. As I get older, I let the pros do it! Nice video and enjoy your wife’s interactions with you!
I had a sense things weren't going well when your 3rd 2nd attempt became your 2nd attempt. Normally it's your 2nd attempt that is your 1st attempt. We've all been there. As Mrs. O said - "Nothing is wrong ". Today was just another learning lesson and you passed, and tomorrow will be better. We're all better from watching your video - and there's your lesson for today.
Absolutely great video!! The end with your wife was perfect!!! Your wife is absolutely gorgeous and y’all are just cute together!! Love it when you put her and y’all interacting together in your videos! Can’t wait for the next video brother!! Gos bless~
You’ve got your health and your family. You ain’t doing too bad 😉 Keep up the good work. It’s when things start going wrong that people start a-rigging and cutting corners - which you don’t do (which is awesome) 👍

We have those days man! You are still one of the best teachers in UA-cam… keep kicking butt!!
You're a top shelf mechanic but you'd be nothing without that awesome wife of yours. God bless you both.
Eric, As a fellow "Upstater" thank you so much for introducing me to Fluid Film. I hope never to see these problems on my 4Runner.
Your neighbor needs a air powered lawn mower that sounds like a air ratchet
Amen! Checking in from Illinios!
Hey Eric! You gotta get a sound effect for the WD-40 like you have for brake cleaner!! That'll piss the haters off so much!!!! LOL!
YES!!!
Everyone makes mistakes. What separates the master from the hack is that the master know how to fix his mistakes. Great job Eric
You are the Man in the “Rust Belt”
Anybody can fix things when it’s 70° and 30% humidity!
I'm glad I wasnt the only one at the shop feeling like that today. Just one of those days where you wonder why you do, what you do.
Hang in there Eric!
you got a lift....you got a good wife.....what's the problem?
I was hoping Mrs O to give you a huge hug. Anyway, you know there will be many days
like this. Just remember. She's got your back and that's something that not many people have.
It's such a pleasure to see the love and respect with which you & Mrs. O treat each other. Love your videos.
Eric, we are not perfect, and you are part of us, but the job was done right, and you thought, us a lesson. You are awesome sir, keep you chin up. You are the best.Vanessa agrees with us. Great video.Take care, thanks 😊
The older you get, the more often those days happen. I wish you well and your content/diagnosis is always top shelf.
I’m retired now and I don’t want to pretend I’m in your league Mate but I can surely remember days like these.
The ending had me cracking up, especially Mrs. O's words of wisdom, lol. Also loved how you fixed the stud. It'd definitely been a bigger pain in the butt if you didn't have that tool to put the nut and bolt in.
Not his first shock stud rodeo
That signoff was perfect. I feel for you. You're doing a great job and are loved and appreciated. Keep on keepin on.
Mrs O Is just so awesome! hope you have better days Eric. :)
You and your Wife are very honorable people, and be proud because this is the great example your both showing your children ❤🙏❤️🙏
I love Vanessa! She has a great sense of humor and it is obvious that she is a great person. Thanks for all the great videos Eric and Vanessa.
Hang in there trooper. We've all had days like this. Deep breath and forge ahead. You've got this.
Your content actually keeps me sane alot of times hope all is well
Exactly. We all get to thinking no one's had the BS day we just had
Then Eric O shows us a Ford V10 triton where all the exhaust manifold bolts break but not above the manifold so it can be easily removed. Gets agitated and starts making a video on the other side where not a damn thing went difficult
As is tradition in Manifolds 200:5688
"And thou wilt break the knuckle whenst time has come to break the knuckle. It is the toil of man and by extension his resolve to not be beaten what powers the true lineage of mechanics."
Ps: see also "gah damn pos thing!"
And
"She's about to loosen up *tiny!* FUUUU!"
LMAO
sometimes ya wave the magic wand
Other times the wand is a bat coming for your some. So it is so shall it be
A lady i know was haveing a noise at the rear of her car..it was the rear shock....someone only put one bolt in..they didnt bother repairing like you did..the shop charged her 400 bucks for a crap job..i love watching you work...iv learned abunch
Mrs O is a treasure
And I thought I was the only one that has a bad day. Thanks Eric for reminding us its OK to be human.
Can’t wait to see the video when you’re working on that guy’s mower! 🤪
He'll go over and steal it in the middle of the night just to fix it.
I think the mower is just a little pay back for the peep peep very time Eric goes out the door.
Man period LMAO Yup I get that quite often too...usually end up throwing tools at the wall and talking to myself. As usual extremely entertaining. thanks
Haha!!! You had me in tears at the end of the video mate. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
I love all the shop humor......not too many speaking my language but I definitely appreciate the entertainment. Keep up the good work, sir!
Hahaha need an air chisel to break off the salt 😮
Jack hammer for some of it. I've never seen you bust out the air hammer to remove all the sunshine for your cars 😂
@@SouthMainAuto Maybe on the northern ones…it’s usually straight to the blue wrench of me
Good thing you had your rock sanding next to you to give you the encouragement you needed to hear.
Eric all is well! We all have those days! You are walking, talking and performing great feats today, Be Blessed and Thankful that you are. I know I am that you are, because you would be missed! Thank you for you patients in this video and the lessons that I learned from you. 👀 It may have been a mistake but at least now I know how to fix it!😃❤
Gods Blessings on you and your family! 🙏

You ain’t doing too bad 😉
Keep up the good work. It’s when things start going wrong that people start a-rigging and cutting corners - which you don’t do (which is awesome) 👍
YOU GOT YOUR GOOD DAYS AND YOUR BAD DAYS
JUST LIKE THE US PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GOD BLESS YOU ERIC

38 years in the business just like you. The main man,I know how it feels. I feel for you man! But you have a great family and a wife that cares. What else can you ask for ?
You did a good job which was interesting. I've noticed myself that sh***y days seem to come more frequently lately. Just go with the flow.
Always a learning experience and most of all, always entertaining !!
What ever you do ,its with full evert, and you have someone who has your back, you should be proud.
Yeah... I was screaming at the monitor when the second shock was going up... thanks for that moment, Eric. And thanks for not charging the Nissan lady anything more... you knew the comment fluid is necessary.
You got Mrs. O. So all your days are great. Stay encouraged. Thank you.
Eric, Thanks for the great videos! As to drilling in bad locations I weld on a piece of round stock to the drill bit! It has solved many of the problems I have found working on aircraft!
Can you elaborate on that please?
@@quietsignal Take a standard drill bit and weld on a piece of rod the same diameter! I can't make it any simpler than this!
