I really enjoyed your video. Your thought process, purchasing decision, and experience with Subaru mirror my own. Currently enjoying my 2024 WRX immensely. Thanks for a great video
There's a huge surplus of inventory on these new, unpopular redesigned WRX's. I've seen $3-5K discounts being advertised in my area. Most people seem to hate the black cladding, especially in the back.
The black cladding is a pain, I’ve had cladding on my wife’s Honda passport, and we have it on the new explorer St we replaced it with. Chemical guys makes a good product for plastic, vinyl , and rubber. That keeps it clean, gives it some UV protection, and shines it up so it stays looking new. Otherwise they fade into an ugly grey color over time.
I've kept my 2019 bone stock. Not even tuned. Doing oil changes more frequently than required, just because its my first turbo, so want to baby that. Don't salivate over chances of buying it from me, because I keep cars forever (ie: until they rust out/become undrivable.)
I purchased my new WRX in Australia because it is the most beautiful car to drive. It’s comfortable, the clutch is easy to use, I love the manual gearbox. I’m sure my wife is sick of me telling her how I love driving. I even love the cladding. I enjoyed your video so thanks for taking the time to make it.👍😃
I've been the market for a new car for some time. I looked at several makes until I checked out the Subaru dealer. I never had a Subaru before so I don't know if my experience is typical. They pulled the car around with shipping plastic still on it and handed me the keys and suggested a couple roads to try it on. No markups and they offered a financing offer 2 points under my credit union. I was treated like a human. All that to say I can home with a new 22 WRX.
@@Gonin60 That's an affirmative. Its right at home handling these back country roads and hollows. The sound it makes is pure sexy. Its also a really usable and practical car for getting daily stuff done. I haven't driven manual in many a year so that's been an experience as well.
Good choice on the WRX...Same story here. I really wanted a Type R ever since the last gen so when the 11th gen came around I was hoping to have a 2nd chance but dealer markups and the price increase ruled it out again. Having owned 2 WRX's in the past, I considered it but really wanted a hatch. GTI was considered but past experiences with reliability issues ruled it out. I found an immaculate slightly used Kona N CPO car. I never thought I would buy a Hyundai let alone an automatic but it is just so good. I'm fortunate enough to have a ND Miata so not having a manual in the Kona is no big deal plus the Kona's dual clutch is amazing. Good luck with your WRX!
Great reasoning and I can’t blame you! If I had a manual Miata in the garage it would make getting an auto much easier. I saw the refreshed Elantra N yesterday and that sure looks good!
funny, i was looking at a GTI too but local dealers were marking up $5k+. Asked if there was any wiggle room and they said not a lot so i said screw it. Same thing with a civic SI. Went to a Subaru dealership, no markup, $2k discount on 2022 new wrx base, ended up grabbing it for $32k OTD with some options like tint.
I like your perspective on the wrx, I am picking up my 2023 wrx next week after wanting it for 7 years and waiting 7 months to get it because 2022’s were sold out. I’m getting it because of price point, awd (I live in rural Ontario) and speed/ driving fun factor. Your prices make me laugh though cause here a base model at Sticker is 37-38 out the door. Got to love the Canadian dollar!
I just wish Subaru would drop a sweet 4 door hatch version (minus all the cladding) and drop the STi diffs/transmission into it and it would be pretty dang perfect :D
Great video. We are similar in many ways. I just can’t keep one car for long. I like the experience. I really like the WRX and I flirt with it A LOT. I wish I had a Subaru dealership like yours around me.
Thanks man! Yes we are very much alike! If I were you and you want one, join some of the FB groups. Some dealers are doing 2-3k under sticker as Subaru has flooded the marketing with Wrxs.
@@Gonin60 I’ll have to do that. I was looking forward to the integra type S but the price is just too much. It’ll make for some great winter content too.
I bought a 2022 Subaru WRX recently and I love it. And I had a pleasant and easy buying experience from my local Subaru dealership. As far as the look of the current WRX, the plastic clad doesn’t bother me at all-I think the car looks cool, in my humble opinion. I know everyone has their thoughts and opinions about the current WRX model and I respect that. To each their own. Well, it’s my first turbo charged and AWD car. Overall, I’m happy with my purchase and the price was reasonable with no inflated mark ups for my car. I hope Subaru will have a new STI plus, keep manufacturing their “boxer” engine and not totally go into just EV. Finally, keep up the great work “Gonin60”, enjoying your UA-cam channel.
Mini Clubman JCW All4 - no regrets paid $3k UNDER MSRP and took 2 months to arrive after ordered (including a trip across the pond). I looked at the usual suspects but could not justify the crazy over MSRP that dealers were (are) charging - I hesitated even posting this as it seems to still be a secret but given that they are stopping production on the Clubman and I've got mine it doesn't really matter. I think the WRX is like a lot of first year models are - they look like butt at first (even in person) but grow on you (like a fungus) - I'd even go out on a limb and say that in 10 years the current gen may not be the "best" WRX gen but it'll be up there not at the bottom of the list...
l walked in a dealership in the evening and drove the Blue 2023 WRX 6 Speed home at noon next day... hassle free.. 2 days and Subaru did a great with this car, love the room and stick shift, all around car, very smooth and not slow
@Gonin60 the power is not bad with the wrx have a jb4 ordered to help with that and if I really need power I have a 65 chevelle that's parked beside the wrx lol
@@whiteoutram0516 there ya go! Let me know how the JB4 goes. In stock form it’s pretty decent and still fun. I may change my mind after more months behind the wheel.
I bought a 2020 WRX new for all the same reasons. I got a warranty and a car that no one had already run the snot out of. Driving it is my therapy. Even just an hours drive and I’ve melted away all the kinks and knots. My dealer was great as well. I completely agree with all your points. Enjoy the car.
Here is another comment. Install the factory short shifter (let the dealership install it to maintain any warranty questions) and a Perron shift plate (install yourself), it will significantly improve the shifting performance. No more rowing through a sack of walnuts.
I was on a road trip about 1000 miles away from home, saw a dealer with a ton of WRXs and stopped by just to check them out because I had not gotten a chance to see one up close. They knew I wasn’t going to buy one but still let me test drive it. I like the car even more than I thought I would.
HeavyMetalWRX's content is unwatchable. Someone might want to clue him in that not all mods are necessary or advisable, regardless of price. Glad you're happy with your purchase. H8ers gonna h8. Looking forward to spring wrenching projects for weekends to come!
I get it, I voided the warranty on my 21 Sti at 3k miles no issues sept will be 2 years. (Intake, Inlet, bpv, top mount, radiator, oil pan kit, cylinder 4 mod, oil pressure and temp guages, catback, sway bar, endlinks, coils, wheels, tune)
Nice to see someone else from Utah with a VB and seeing you see the run far side of the lake road. Got my 22 WRB WRX from Mark Miller in Sandy as well, same story of great service. I was looking for something April 22 and it was a pain, and they get me one for less then MSRP which was unheard of at the time. For the price, the 22 WRX can’t be beat for a turbo AWD manual.
@@Gonin60 so far intake and BP custom tune, HR lowering springs and garageline hubcentric spacers. Soon as a bigger turbo is available will throw that on with meth injection 😂
So I mentioned the g70 in your last video since I was in between the type r, wrx and stinger. I saw the g70, awd , luxurious, amazing sounds system 3.3t 35k, 2022 only 9k miles on the clock, with some blots on and a tune you get 450 whp but that is not needed on the g70.
Wherever you live is just such an awesome place. The mountains in the distance is just an amazing sight. Living in the UK, we can not see too far, though nothing better than England in the summer. The WRX is a great car and the looks with the cladding is more than okay. Sadly we do not get the WRX in the UK, though I made up for it with the Renualt Megane 280 Cup!
My wife has a 2020 Sti and was looking for a new car and went to test drive this new wrx, she said it felt like a slug in her opinion, she left with her Sti 😂 I agree with all these other cars that are way better than a wrx but I seen a 23 type r and they wanted 60k, I can’t imagine anyone paying that kind of money for any of these cars in this performance range.
glad they changed the tune. When I had my 2012 it was like driving a geo metro before 4grand and it had ZERO getup and go and finally kick in around the 4grand mark. I put a cobb intake, tune and a axle back on it but it still was blahh. Hated that car
@@txkingg mine had a 2.5 vs new 2.4 so the older ones are slightly bigger. They were junk either way. everytime i would get one it i would expect the rings to go
What about the Elantra N? I pre-ordered the wrx based on nostalgia. Owning them previously etc.. but was worried about short gearing and a low 6000rpm redline? To me they didn’t want to develop a new engine and borrowed the engine from the ascent, verbatim chucked it into the wrx and relied on nostalgia. I did preorder but when I was able to drive it, I was a little disappointed. I felt like if not for the strong awd launch it wasn’t actually too fast. Lightening for first two gears and then sort of fell away. My previous 2012 wrx seemed faster. I then drove an Elantra N and changed my mind. I preferred the strong roll on performance of the Elantra N. If you live in wild weather then fair enough AWD is a must but for all other conditions the Elantra N seems to be a few steps ahead
But for the positives, I like the basic no nonsense feel of the wrx, it’s a throw back to older wrx cars, they to me feel well built, they feel rugged to me more so than the Elantra N. Seems to be more upside with tuning and mods as they have a bigger displacement low boost engine. I also liked the handling, they feel chuckable.. all the reviewers bag out the wrx and say the Elantra N is a darling but they are closer than what reviewers say. If you like a more grown up feel wrx is good.. I was genuinely 50/50 between the two, just very slightly favoured the Elantra N roll on power over the wrx launch advantage.. no wrong decision
All great points! I love the new front end of the 2024 Elantra N. This platform they went to electronic wastegate, and the psi is so much lower that I feel they gavepeople a great start to mod. For the money and AWD it’s hard to beat this combo. I think the Elantra N is a great platform. Would love to own one! Hyundai is doing a great job. I’m just glad we have threes cars around! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I test drove a DCT Elantra N. The wheelhop and torque steer reminded me why FWD sucks. Then the DCT locked up at a stop light and filled the cabin with smoke. WRX felt so much better.
I just got made a '23 WRX GT. It was expensive but so freaking worth it and I love it. It's a great car and I wanted something different than a Type R Honda Civic because those are getting too popular.
Really glad to hear you're happy with you purchase, Austin! Also looking forward to seeing the new car you have on order (I think you hinted at it in one of your replies to me in your previous video). Just out of curiosity, if the car market was more normal, say pre-pandemic normal, would you have still gotten the WRX, or would you have gone for something else (assuming you could have gotten the car you wanted, at a price that was reasonable)? Just wondering how much you feel you "settled" for the WRX, even though you really love it. BTW, weather has finally been getting good here. Been in the 80's all this week and was finally able to get the Camaro out a couple of times. Felt great to just drive her again after being put away for the winter!
Hey brother! I think if I didn’t have to deal with price gouging and added fees and inventory was good, then I don’t think I would have ended up in a WRX. I’m glad it worked out how it did though. Excited for the new car to get here. I bet that’s a great feeling to bring it out!
You don’t have to justify your purchase to anyone as long you’re happy with it. I used to own a 13’ WRX hatchback and loved it. I just bought a car that no enthusiast is going to drool over, a 2023 Honda Civic Hatchback, top model, because I just no longer want to drive a manual with as nice as auto transmissions are these days. Guess I’m just getting old, lol. I hear the CVT in the new WRX is a huge improvement also, so maybe down the road I might get me one. The Civic is still pretty fun to drive without being harsh like the SI, nor was it a markup ripoff like the SI. My local Honda also has a black Type R on the showroom floor with a $15k markup…I opted for a car with the same look, just without the spoiler, excitement, and bonkers price 😂
I’m a fan, you’re really good at what you do keep it up! I just went from an STI to a challenger RT😆. So you are doing the opposite of what I did😆. It’s too bad they don’t make the STI anymore or I would’ve gotten that maybe. But I need something different, sounds like you do too. Enjoy! At least you can auto cross with that
Hey man, I'm also in SLC. That road you're driving on at the beginning of the video looks nice, is it Utah county? I test drove a VB from Nate Wade and was impressed with the car, i could see myself in one for sure.

Other sport have the same issue but it is very frustrated i have to wait that long for a car. Dam your very lucky.
Yeah! Dealers used to give you the car for the weekend to try it. They knew that if people took the new car home to their family/friends/neighbors/co-workers that it would be hard to give the car back to the dealer. Those weekend test drives sold more cars than anything. The car market is wild now. Subaru seems to be the only one that has their sh*t together. I tried to get a Toyota in 2021. Hope you like it! I don't have one yet, so im living vicariously through you
I really enjoyed your video. Your thought process, purchasing decision, and experience with Subaru mirror my own. Currently enjoying my 2024 WRX immensely. Thanks for a great video
Thank you so much!!
There's a huge surplus of inventory on these new, unpopular redesigned WRX's. I've seen $3-5K discounts being advertised in my area.
Most people seem to hate the black cladding, especially in the back.
Yeah very true. They will sale more this year though than any WRX in history.
That’s awesome Kirk! Keep enjoying it!
I purchased my new WRX in Australia because it is the most beautiful car to drive. It’s comfortable, the clutch is easy to use, I love the manual gearbox. I’m sure my wife is sick of me telling her how I love driving.
I even love the cladding.
I enjoyed your video so thanks for taking the time to make it.👍😃
Hey you bet Terry! Thank you for commenting and sharing your thoughts. I completely agree!
I make over 6 figures and I chose the wrx premium lol. I think it’s that good of a car…and maybe only 2 cars that are awd manual
It’s a great car!
That’s awesome! I went through a very similar experience. Are you loving it?
@@Gonin60 That's an affirmative. Its right at home handling these back country roads and hollows. The sound it makes is pure sexy. Its also a really usable and practical car for getting daily stuff done. I haven't driven manual in many a year so that's been an experience as well.
@@Toecutter1981 have fun and enjoy!!!
You will love the car! It will be perfect for up in Canada.
I just wish Subaru would drop a sweet 4 door hatch version (minus all the cladding) and drop the STi diffs/transmission into it and it would be pretty dang perfect :D
I’m all for that my friend!
Hahaaa! All the comments toward the end about other creators were spot on, and hilarious!!!
Thanks Matt!!
I absolutely love my '22. Beast in the snow, never have been so confident. AWD blasts through corners. Love this car.
I agree! I haven’t had mine for very long so still have a lot of drives and conditions I’m excited to test the car out in.
I love this WRX. I’ve been thinking about downsizing from my Ford Expedition and the WRX is intriguing me!
If you were in UT I’d let you drive mine. Go drive one and see what ya think.
Depending on which expedition you have I would say keep the expedition.
i was going to buy a GR corolla. They told i was looking at a minimum of 10k markup on the core. Bought the WRX next day at MSRP. Subaru ftw
10mark up? Geesh. Glad you got the WRX! You enjoying it?
Great video. We are similar in many ways. I just can’t keep one car for long. I like the experience. I really like the WRX and I flirt with it A LOT. I wish I had a Subaru dealership like yours around me.
Thanks man! Yes we are very much alike! If I were you and you want one, join some of the FB groups. Some dealers are doing 2-3k under sticker as Subaru has flooded the marketing with Wrxs.
@@Gonin60 I’ll have to do that. I was looking forward to the integra type S but the price is just too much. It’ll make for some great winter content too.
@@QueTheChaotic are dealers marking up the type s? It’s already too expensive as is
@@Gonin60 they will be according to the dealership I got my integra from
@@QueTheChaotic geesh!
Hey Alan! Thanks for watching and for your comment. I have a great experience too. Sure is a fun car. See you on the next one
You got a great deal! How are you liking your Clubman? Never driven one but definitely want to someday. I agree with your take on first year models!
I owned a Countryman JCW in 2021 and I wish I still had it. They are so much fun!
Looking at these. Good prices now!
Very good deals to be had right now! Happy hunting!
l walked in a dealership in the evening and drove the Blue 2023 WRX 6 Speed home at noon next day... hassle free.. 2 days and Subaru did a great with this car, love the room and stick shift, all around car, very smooth and not slow
Congrats!
I went from a 22 wide body scat pack charger that I had a lot of equity in so I sold it n got a 22 wrx
Nice! How are you liking your WRX?
@Gonin60 2100 miles so far I like it alot very fun little car very different from the charger
@@whiteoutram0516 do you miss the power or does WRX scratch the itch?
@Gonin60 the power is not bad with the wrx have a jb4 ordered to help with that and if I really need power I have a 65 chevelle that's parked beside the wrx lol
@@whiteoutram0516 there ya go! Let me know how the JB4 goes. In stock form it’s pretty decent and still fun. I may change my mind after more months behind the wheel.
I'm planning on buying a 2024 wrx base with a manual. Super excited.
You will love it!
As a current 22 wrx owner, I recommend getting the STI short throw shifter. Currently love my wrx to death.
I’ll check it out. Thanks Wade!
Right on! That’s what it’s all about. Keep enjoying it!
Here is another comment. Install the factory short shifter (let the dealership install it to maintain any warranty questions) and a Perron shift plate (install yourself), it will significantly improve the shifting performance. No more rowing through a sack of walnuts.
@@stevegessler4011 rowing through a sack of walnuts. That’s funny!! K will do
I was on a road trip about 1000 miles away from home, saw a dealer with a ton of WRXs and stopped by just to check them out because I had not gotten a chance to see one up close. They knew I wasn’t going to buy one but still let me test drive it. I like the car even more than I thought I would.
That’s how I was as well. Very little interest and then drove one and I was amazed by it.
@@Gonin60Me too ,I never really liked it when it came out! After I drove a 23 WRX I had to buy it lol😂.

Hey, that’s awesome! Same car from same dealer in the same state. I completely agree with you! Thanks for watching!

My dealer experience was very similar in wisconsin, it was fantastic.
Right on!
That’s awesome!
Congrats! Enjoy!
That’s awesome your wife is into these cars! That’s rad
glad they changed the tune. When I had my 2012 it was like driving a geo metro before 4grand and it had ZERO getup and go and finally kick in around the 4grand mark. I put a cobb intake, tune and a axle back on it but it still was blahh. Hated that car
Yeah they were always so weird anytime I drove an old one and how the power came on.
@Gonin60 back then the turbo did all the work, these newer with a slightly bigger motor have more torque down low, great change.
@@momsbasement656 I think the dcts are really good. Wheel hop = not fun. I always feel like I’m breaking something haha
@@Gonin60 FWD is great for lap times on a dry track or roll racing. In the real world, it's just not as fun as AWD or RWD.

Yeah that is a concern
I bet that’s a great feeling to bring it out!
i paid $29k 3 months ago for my 22 base & its an amazing car fot that $$.
That’s a great deal!
Agree with everything you said - similar story in NZ.
Thanks!
Relatable. I just bought a WRX because VW dealers wanted $3k to $10k over or required accessories/services for a Golf R.
I went through the same thing on a golf r!
Can’t blame you at all Jeff! Those mark ups are crazy on the si and Type r
Also love the mindset you have . GOOD JOB 👍
Thank you David!
Enjoy! At least you can auto cross with that

you have a scenic view brother where is this you are driving?
Hey there! Near UT lake
I ordered one and was told 7 more weeks many many times. Same with Ford. Back to Subaru I go. I've missed having a Subaru, anyways.

@@Gonin60 the overall smoothness of the ride plus it retains that mechanical feel. The stock tune is great but i do miss the old stock rumble. But I do love the VB.
You're right that for daily driving it is much smoother and more comfortable. Have a 23 VB and husband have STI. But handling oh my was I disappointed, the difference was huge. We put $5k in coilovers, bushings, sways, wheels, and 200tw tires on 23 VB. We went to Willow Springs and drove my VB and husband's STI back to back and it wasn't even close. There was a Subaru engineer at the event and we asked him why the VB handling is so bad, he explained to save costs, the new VB uses the SUV global platform's open front and rear diff with brake vectoring, and he said my husband's STI handled so good because it has front LSD, center DCCD diff, and rear LSD.
