I can’t believe it’s 30 years to the day. I remember playing the whole entire cd . This cd and flying in A blue dream was a big deal!! Perfect !!AMAZING !!
@Andy Butler I will definitely give that a listen. If you've got a spare five minutes check out Andy James "Welcome to the crazy maze" It's a bit heavier but the arpeggios are so delicious, it's got a killer main riff as well.
I was a senior in high school when this was on Letterman. I went to bed early that night, because of a long day at school. My dad was up watching tv and saw that Satch was going to be on, so he woke me up from a dead sleep just so I could watch it. Needless to say, I was wired after watching this performance, that the next day at school was a rough one. I wore my Extremist t-shirt to explain why I fell asleep in class. I've been a die hard fan since 1988!
My fav. Satch album is The Extremist. A curiosity: I lent the album and they robbed me... I bought it again, lent the new one to an ex-girlfriend, I was robbed again. I had to buy it for the third time, but it won't leave the house again.
@@johnjones5977 - Yes both albums are masterclasses in song writing and guitar playing. For me Crystal Planet was the last album I really enjoyed from Joe. Done alot of great tracks since but as an entire album it hasn't lived up to the earlier stuff for me personally.
Check out Thai shredder Jack Tammarat play guitar then🤔 He was probably at that show🎸🎶 Talk about wonderfully influenced by Satch❤🎸🎶 I'm prepping to see the maestro on Nov. 1st here in York, PA🎸🎶
How can this be 30 years ago, it still seems like the *new* album to me! Years ago I spent an huge amount of money (for a 22 year old) on a recording studio setup.. 8 track VHS ADAT system. The music shop that sold it to me gave me a VIP ticket to meet Joe in person when he flew into my country. I had a signed Frank Gambale guitar that Joe was going to also sign, I was so excited. Anyway, I waited for 3 hours in the store only to find out his flight had been delayed and he wouldn't make it to the signing. I was so bummed out as Joe and Steve were my fav axemen. Felt like a clown walking out the store with my guitar case. Played the blues that night for sure!
We are getting old. These songs are still fresh to me. Flying in a Blue Dream is my favorite JS album. This is right there too. Can't get enough of this.
The very first record I listened from Joe Satriani was The Extremist, I was in high school in 1995, and it totally ignited my passion for guitar. I spent hours and hours studying this record, it totally changed my guitar playing. Thank you Joe.
My first Satriani song was "Psycho Monkey" from "Crystal Planet"...song Nr. 13.😉 I can't play the guitar but I'm a huge fan! I was so amazed by the refrain he did with the guitar...so he changed my music taste, from "normal" music and Techno to >>Rock
"War" and "Hordes of Locusts" hit me like a ton of heavy bricks. I mean, before listening to those pieces, I was playing only classical fingerstyle guitar!!!
I love how happy Joe looks performing this! Loving the exposure and making the most of it by playing his heart out, loving every moment and note that comes out of his guitar and harmonica. Great performance - one of thousands.
And around 40 years ago I remember when he used to live in my old neighborhood jamming in his garage and driving his old Plymouth Duster down the street.
I love all your albums Joe but The Extremist holds a very special place in my heart because I've been listening to it since I was 14 and it always fills me with a blue sky happiness !
Saw him on the Extremist Tour (and many others).....remember being at Birmingham NEC and opening act was Adrian Legg......took the whole arena to a jaw dropping quiet with just his acoustic and a small amp......then Satch came on with the Bisonette boys and they did what they did. Remember it like yesterday.
His music is more melodic and listenable to for me than Vais, but I love both and can’t help resent how effortless they make it look while displaying musical mastery and genius.
W 2005 roku mój kuzyn po raz pierwszy puscil mi jedna z pierwszych płyt Joe Satriani. Płyta kosztowała prawie miesięczna pensję jego ojca ponieważ byla kupiona w latach '80 . Polska wtedy była za żelazną kurtyną. Muzyka i koszt płyty były absurdalne i chore.
Canadian plug there. Global Television Network is a Canadian news and broadcast network. I remember watching this live on Letterman. I was in college at the time... Great performance as always Joe!!! Cheers!
Still the greatest album of his career! I can't even count the number of times I played this when it came out... still bust it out every couple of months or so...
I have this recording in storage on VHS and was on my UA-cam channel for years. Great performance from Joe and the Paul Schafer band live. Great album and sound as well. As a Guitarist by profession this album was so we'll produced and melodic and influential in my development. "Flying In a Blue Dream" is amazing but this album was so raw sounding. "Why" and "War" are stellar tracks. Along with "Cryin" and this great title track! Thanks Joe
Couldn't agree more sir, 'Why' and 'War' stand out for sure. The raw and heaviness and sounds of those two tracks had a huge impact on me as a young musician.
I remember playing this album in the car to my brother and asked him to guess the title of Friends and he got it in one. That’s how good Joe is. The emotion comes through the music as he’s plugged into his soul.
Totally agree. It’s one of my favorite Satch songs, and brings back memories of cruising with mates in the 90s. I copied it from CD to tape for the car and with friends at the start, it was easy to rewind and play it again and again. It really paints a picture of hanging out with your buddies. Every track is great though, and makes for an awesome driving album. From the soaring Rubina’s blue sky and new blues, to the heavier war, and slower Cryin and Tears, it has it all.
crazy after all these years and all the super crazy young guitar players out there that sound like computers, the OG guitars gods are still Gods. This has aged very well. Good songs!
I saw Joe live once as a kid, I walked out after listening to him do the same thing for 30minutes straight. This was the 1St time I listened since then.(edit)hahahahahaha, this is his channel I was recommended. Be damned youtube!
Thé Extremist IS the album i discovered Joe Satriani, what a Amazing thing was instrumental guitar! 30 years later still the best album for me.Great live hère,i love !
I still think of _The Exremist_ as his new album; guess I should update my temporal model. Also, I was wondering where fashion went to die in 1992, and now I know. Thanks for taking one for the team, Joe!
My father heard joe on the mark and Brian radio show and the next time he saw me he gave me a hand full of cash and said go buy all his albums you can find from that day I was hooked and he just keeps playing so well after all these years , thanks joe for all your wonderful tunes you gifted the world you rock!

Can't believe it's 30y ago & the album still on my playlist to date♥️🎧...
Every single Sach album that's released I just press play and take in the whole thing.
This guy is not human!!!!
@Andy Butler I will definitely give that a listen. If you've got a spare five minutes check out Andy James "Welcome to the crazy maze" It's a bit heavier but the arpeggios are so delicious, it's got a killer main riff as well.
They still are a big deal in my house, car, earphones….the list goes on

Hail fellow JS fan from 1988!
Cool dad!
Best comment on youtube and best dad!
Arguably his best sounding album
Hands down!!!
I like it too but ya know I really like " Live in San Francisco" that album double set is kick ass!!!
I think Sach falls into that category of you can make an argument for any song or any album. It all sounds great.
surfing with the alien [album] changed the world
Andy Johns, baby. Joe basically heard what he did on Van Halen's F.U.C.K. and said, "get me that guy". 😎
Watched this when it happened as a 15 year old. I saw it with my dad, and we both loved it! He bought the cassette tape soon after.
My fav. Satch album is The Extremist. A curiosity: I lent the album and they robbed me... I bought it again, lent the new one to an ex-girlfriend, I was robbed again. I had to buy it for the third time, but it won't leave the house again.
Geez Joey!!! So out in the galaxy!
He blew the roof off that stage!!!!
I love those chromatic runs. That “Late Night” band was so good. Joe you are the greatest!!!
Agree with you awesome
The best album he ever did, tone, playing, tunes.......literally perfect guitar instrumental album.
Great album, but Flying in a Blue Dream was a masterpiece.

@@chromebuoy Did you listen to Shockwave Supernova? It's a really great album.
Jeeeeesus I feel old. Bought this day of release from a now long since gone record store in Eastbourne. Better times ☺️
Saw Joe Satriani played live a few years back just before Covid in Thailand. Simply awesome.
Before medical aparthied and the culling of all doctors and nurses that didn't lie to keep their jobs. ^ Fixed that for you.
Check out Thai shredder Jack Tammarat play guitar then🤔

My favorit Joe Satriani album 😊

Joe is not only of the greatest players, but one of the greatest composers ever of guitar solos.

I remember watching this when it aired. This November will be my 31st time seeing Joe.
This album make me mad. Awesome skills. Still listen it
The Satch deserves more respect and recognition than he has gotten over the years. Light-years ahead of so many other great players.
Am I the only one - but I feel this Joe Satriani song has a lot of FUNK in it.
Just about the last time when anyone with musical talent appeared on TV.
One of Joe's best solos 👍🏼
Probably his best record too, he'll always be the 🐐 🙏
Yes it is awesome 👌
I’d have to agree wholeheartedly to that statement.
One of my top four favorite albums from Joe, maybe even the top one or top two!
Sensei 🙏
I still have the cassette tape I bought at the time with me! Still an incredible album and track! 🤘🎸🤘

Vintage 😎🤘🏼
I really like this album, especially the song "Tears in the rain"
Love going to his shows. Been to every tour since flying in a blue dream, also G3 a few times and saw Chicken foot. All time great!
Joe's the best. I can barely walk n chew bubble gum at the same time. Joe can shred and play harmonica at same time all while wearing pajamas 🤯
One of my favorite album of Satch 🙂

I went to a sign up for the extremist in a Dallas musicstore, my brother and i drove at night to get there, we were young, it was amazing!
@joe satriani since Surfing and proud guitar player..thanks joe.
Nowadays people are whining when there’s a 30 second guitar solo in a song. I loved being a guitar nerd kid in the 80s 🤘🎸🔥and am still ✌️
God I miss the 90's..... Thanks Joe!
The guitar into a Boss DS-1 into the Marshall...that's it? Sounds incredible, what a legend!

tpaed the harp right on to the bullet mic...brilliant!
The great Anton Fig on drums here as he was a member of the Letterman house band. Satriani rocks!
