kinda new to all this. purchased a Breville Baresta Touch a week ago and I'm dancing in the kitchen. Learning with every sip. thanks for the heart.....
Thanks for this. I am sure that I will be referring to this again in the future as I just ordered a Bambino Plus last night. I have owned other machines so am familiar with descaling but the the back flow cleaning technique is new to me. Your instructions are clear and concise - I am sure that you have helped a lot of Bambino owners by taking the time to put this video together!
Hi, very useful video. I’m in the UK and I have just ventured into the world of espresso. I bought the Bambino plus but found the special grinder rather expensive, perhaps I will progress to that later. Watching other videos, I took their advice and bought a bottomless portafilter, what a mistake that was. After clearing up all the mess from liquid shooting out in all directions I went back to the provided portafilter. Your explanation of the cleaning and descaling processes are by far the best I have seen, and I will no doubt be referring back to this when the time comes. Thanks for your hard work.
I'm in the uk and have just bought this machine and have watched several UK reviewers assess this product. Just want to say your review is by far the best in comparison and because of your excellent work through I'm now much happier in the future use of the Breville Bambino Plus. So take a bow. Also in the near future I shall get their grinder and get back to beans and forget buying ground coffee. Thanks again 😊🤔 Frank
thank goodness for coffee machines that take the guess work out. that would have been a disaster on a barista style machine but for those that dont want to go through the setting up and simply want a reasonable tasting espresso style coffee these are fine.. i hope you enjoy your coffee experience
Anybody can have great tasting coffee with this machine. No professional training needed which is why I love it and I think many coffee lovers would too!
You probably want to buy a non insulated basket for your portafilter. You will find an immediate improvement in your espresso, but you might find that you will want to grind your beans a bit finer. Those insulated baskets you are using (per the manual) are only for pre-ground, coarse ground or older coffee. The new machines come with both insulated and non-insulated baskets. Wait til you see your crema on a non-insulated basket!!! Thanks for the great video.
Awesome video, it was very informative. Thank you. I subscribed as well. Keep making these videos. :) I noticed that you put in the descale powder and were then trying to mix it with a large spoon or something. My suggestion is to put the descale powder in a separate cup or bowl, mix it in a cup or 2 of water and then pour that in the water reservoir. This way you would not have to use the spoon and it would have mixed in perfectly.
The cleaning cycle won’t run properly without the grey insert that goes into the portafilter because it won’t make the machine backfill. I would contact customer service to get a replacement part. Thank you for watching!!
it was a great help watching your video. I used to drink “la llave” pre ground coffee. Is it fine to use a pre ground coffee or do you recommend to buy a grinder? which coffee grains are better to use? Thank you so much for your support! Blessings!
Hi there! Sorry I missed your comment. I used pre ground for a long time before we purchased a grinder. Meaning I would buy coffee at the store and use their grinder in store. Grind the entire bag to an espresso fineness. It was totally fine. However I did see a big improvement in the quality of shots when we started to buy fresher coffee and also starter grinding it right before we were going to pull the shot. The fresher the coffee the better shot you’ll get. If you can buy coffee with a roasted date printed on it. Our Costco sells a locally roasted coffee that’s amazing and a much better price because it’s in bulk! Hope this helps and thank you for watching !
A lot of this has to do with the basket she is using as well. The dual wall, and it’s pressurized. It’s why she’s able to get away with such a light tamp and a seemingly rather course looking grind to my eyes. Not to say she’s doing a bad job or anything. She clearly has more knowledge than like 95% of people if we’re being completely honest.
@@hillclimb182 yeah thats not espresso quality grind, its too corse and shot came out a little fast. If she grinds a little finer, theyll get a better double shot in the 24-30 second range.

This is an extremely well- produced video. It covers all the bases, it’s presented in a very clear communication style, and the production values are high quality. Congratulations and thank you.
Great video!! Been looking at this machine for months! Enjoyed the detail you put into this! I broke down the cost savings to my wife and she just didn’t see it, but when you explained it, I got a birthday present coming 😂 I guess she had to see it from another perspective! Thanks again!!
Well thank you for watching!! I think you both with love it!! Hope my video helps when you get it and let me know if you have questions. Happy to help if I can!
Excellent video - so clear and detailed. The best I've seen. Thank you. I'm on the point of buying a Bambino Plus, but I have seen some complaints on online customer reviews that the machine does not produce coffee that is heated to 200F as specified in the manual. I do like a reasonably hot coffee (not scorching of course, but not luke warm either). Would be most interested to hear from you or other viewers with the BB Plus whether this too-low temperature claim is valid or not. I'm actually thinking of going for the Breville Infuser instead, just because it provides the option to change the brew temperature. If it wasn't for this apparent temperature issue, would be happy to go with the BB Plus because where I live Breville offers a 2 year warranty on this, but only 1 year on the Infuser. Cheers!
I think it produces reasonably hot coffee. I haven’t ever measured it before. But when I do steamed milk for a latte I usually set it to the second hottest setting. And my husband does the hottest. You can change the temp setting that way when steaming milk but the espresso itself you can’t change. For beginners like myself who are interested in an easy to use product that saves money purchasing coffee I love this machine. It’s extremely easy to use. We have had multiple friends purchase a breville because they loved our coffee machine. Some have opted for this one and some have opted for the fancier ones with grinders attached. It depends on what you want out of your machine. If you really want to get into perfecting your espresso I’d go with a higher price point breville. If you want something fool proof and easy I’d go with this one. Thank you for watching!!
@@TheHappyKitchenChannel Thanks very much for your response - all makes perfect sense. I have 2 more questions please, if you wouldn't mind answering. 1. With the Bambino Plus, can you pull an espresso and steam milk at the same time? 2. Can you pull 2 cups of espresso, 2 shots in each, at the same time? Cheers!
No problem! You can’t steam milk and pull a shot at the same time no. And there is only one spot for a portafilter so you can only pull one at a time. But that’s pretty standard for a home machine I believe.
Thanks for showing us how to clean this machine. Can you clean the portafilter and water tank without the tablet and descaler? Maybe with baking soda instead of chemicals?
I have seen people say you can use other things to clean and I am interested because I like to use as natural of ingredients as I can in my home. This machine is just so expensive it makes me nervous which is why I haven’t tried it yet. But a google search will show you what others have tried. Thank you for watching!
Thank you for your video, very clear and easy to follow. I’ve just purchased this machine and am a bit disappointed that I can’t make an Americano ( that’s the type I normally drink) Do you have any tips how can I make a good cup of Americano with this machine? Thanks in advance!
Hi there! Thank you for watching! We make americanos every day. We do iced normally but also will make hot ones. For iced we brew our espresso into our cup, add ice and water. But for hot we take the step of heating water in our kettle on the stove. I start that first and usually doesn’t take too long. I had a comment on here about how to brew hot water directly from the bambino but it didn’t work for me. That’d be an excellent feature for them to add on in future models!
You have to pull the wand out and then press and hold the 1 cup button and the froth milk button (not the steam wand button) for a second. “Coffee Kev” channel has a video about that. Bye!
This is such a helpful video, thank you! After following instructions and referencing your video to Descale, I noticed that afterwards every time I turn on the machine, the single and double shot button lights alternately flash. I descaled twice and this still happens, rather than turning on with static lights prior to descaling the machine. Do you know how I can fix this?
Hi there! Thank you so much for watching! That means your machine also needs a cleaning cycle as well. When you turn on the machine and the lights are flashing do the cleaning cycle directly from there and it will go back to normal. Hope that helps!
The biggest thing with this one is it’s easy to use functionality versus the other one. We aren’t baristas so we wanted something super simple for us to use without compromising good coffee. We’ve been satisfied with it and the grinder separate. But the one with the combo is super nice! And I know people love it too. You can’t go wrong with breville either way! Thank you for watching!
Thanks for posting this..esp the part about cleaning and descaling. However, your calculation of savings is kinda flawed but if you adjust for annual vacation when you aren't home, depreciation on the machine of $100 over say 5 years, the cost of descaling tablets and the savings in gas from not actually driving somewhere for your coffee, its still pretty clear that this machine will save you a fortune in time and $$$! ;-)
I’ve just ordered this machine & grinder, can’t wait to receive them. Thanks for the detailed description. BTW, it’s pronounced BREville, not "BreVELLE"
Thank you for uploading this. I’ve been searching for an extensive video like this. By the way, it’s BREville not BreVILLE. It’s an Australian company.
Thanks for the helpful video! When making lattes for two, do you use the two cup mode and manually split into two cups, and steam two separate jugs of milk?
Absolutely! Thank you for watching! We usually make doubles because the minimum amount of milk needed for the steam wand would make it weaker than we like. I would say for best appearance do two separate one shots if you want to make singles and yes two separate cups of milk as well. Although you could separate out a two shot into two singles as well if you aren’t too concerned with the crema on top!
I've just bought the exact set up you have, the manual for the grinder recommends a 10 second grind time at the 15 setting for a double shot does it largely depend on the type of bean you use?
@@TheHappyKitchenChannel thanks can't wait to try it. Unfortunately the machine I had delivered was faulty out the box so gotta wait for the exchange now!
Just wondering if you run into the problem with the water not flowing into the tray properly from the pressure relief after each shot, and even worse when running cleaning cycles?
Hi there! I use oatly it’s my favorite. Make sure you don’t get the reduced fat one and I usually have good luck with foam. They do have a barista blend that works well but in my opinion it’s about the same and it’s more expensive. I also really love the barista blend oat milk by the brand elmhurst. That one foams really nicely! I have never really been able to do latte art or anything with oat milk but it’s tastes amazing to me and that’s what I focus on. Especially with this beginner friendly machine 😊 hope this helps!
Do you use distilled water when you make lattes? I understood you used it while descaling, but with espresso as well? Thanks! Please reply. Terry Norman
Great video! Thanks, as I am fairly new to this. I just got the Bambino Pluse today but my portafilter is sooo hard to lock in place and sooooo hard to losen to remove it? It is almost like it is not made to go with the machine. There is no way I could deal with that while the machine is plugged in and has water in it. I have to hold the machine in a headlock and even sometimes I still can't get it in or out. Something is not right. Any ideas?
Thank you!! Ours was like that too. Maybe not quite that intense. But it does need to be tight for the seal. Ours kind of loosened up a little over time as well. However, if you think it is unusually tight then I would call customer service and talk them through the issue you’re having.
@@TheHappyKitchenChannel I see in the videos people doing it with one hand. I can't imagine as tight as it is now that it will loosen up. I think I will exchange. Thanks so much for your quick reply! :)
Absolutely! When we first got ours I would need to hold the machine and the portafilter. But I didn’t quite need a death grip like you’re talking about lol
Yes it’s interesting that some days are better than others lol most days it’s much easier now that I’ve had it two years. Usually if I am messing with my grinder settings and I put more coffee in it’ll be harder to put the portafilter in.
Great detailed video. I’m saving this because I plan to purchase a Bambino Plus soon. You mentioned using oat milk. Which brand is it? I was very satisfied with Ripple Barista blend, but they discontinued it. I haven’t yet found another brand I like.
Thank you for watching! The one I was using here is the oatly original. I like their full fat one too for foaming hot drinks. I also really like the barista oat milk from elmhurst!
Thank you so much for watching! Actually my cousin and his wife designed them and 3d printed them! They’re pretty cool. They’re working on opening an online shop to sell them. Once they get it up and running I’ll come back and share the link!
Go get a funnel, this will prevent the coffee spill all over during the grinding. I spent about 2 months playing around with pressurized baskets before switching it over to non-pressurized basket. With pressurized basket, you can still play it around with the dosage, playing around the manual programming, preset the pre-infusion time and so on.
Quick question: how do you remove the puck from portafilter? Are you using a knock box? I find my used luck is very hard to remove over the garbage can. Thanks
I use the edge of my trash can like a knock box. And just hit it right into the trash. I used to use a spoon to clean it out but find doing it directly into the trash works great!
@@TheHappyKitchenChannel thanks for replying! Okay, I will try that. Someone else just said to not let it sit in portafilter (which makes it harder)...so tomorrow I will try. Thank you
HI. Does your grinder make a static noise? I hear same kind of noise as old lamps when it's very silent in the kitchen. Also got shocked a few times after grinding. Thank you.
It looks to me like you are brewing with the dual-wall basket. Those are designed to be used with ready ground coffee which you buy at the shop. As you are using coffee you grind yourself then the single-wall baskets are the way to go.
Hi there! I take it apart and wash everything but the metal burr grinder in warm soapy water. I make sure everything is completely dry before I put it back together. And I wipe the rest of the grinder body down with a gentle spray cleaner. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching!
You don’t need to descale your coffee machine if you ALWAYS put filtered water in it. I have a Breville, it’s now 8 years old, and I never descaled it.
😭😭😭 omg I loved your video! Thank you for posting it! 1) Love the cleaning part - nice things deserved to be nicely maintained , especially at such a cost of a espresso machine 💰💰 2) LOVE your calculations of how much it saved you and your family! Savings for the win ✊🏻! I do have a question- sometimes I use the 1 shot portafilter cup and as it’s brewing there’s just so much water! Like there’s half a cup of water mixed with the espresso 😰 and a waste of my yummy espresso. Im not pressing the button long, just a quick tap. When I press the 2 shot brew, it comes out perfectly. Is 5e 1 shot just a manual brew while the 2 shot button is auto? Thoughts?
Thank you so much for watching!! I'm glad you enjoyed!! The one shot should be auto programmed just like the two shot. If there is too much water coming through then maybe the programming is off. I would brew a one shot manually to see if that works just to rule out the one shot button malfunctioning. To do that- insert your portafilter with coffee per usual, then hold the one shot button down for how long you want the pre infusion to happen. Then release and it will brew the shot. The one cup should flash at this point. Then press the one cup button again when your desired amount has come through to stop the water (Page 11 in the manual). If it comes out better then I would reprogram your one shot button timing. Those instructions are right after on page 12. You can mess around with the timing of how you like the one shot by manually brewing a few times, then once you know how many seconds for each section of the brew use those instructions to redo the timing so it will auto brew just by clicking the one shot button. Does that make sense? Please let me know how it goes!! I hope this helps!! Again, so glad you enjoyed!!
@@TheHappyKitchenChannel Thanks so much for your reply! So you were right, the auto program was weird- I must've reprogrammed it accidentally when I first got it. I tried it again tonight, and was able to program it correctly. The 1 shot now hits exactly at 30 ml and 2 shot hits at 60 ml .
I've owned A Bambino Plus for two years........ the included manual is a joke as regards the cleaning cycles....... do your homework. The cleaning cycle is VERY important to the performance and life of the machine.
This routine might work for you... but this is hardly a decent shot produced. I counted about 10 seconds to dispense. A decent shot should take between 20-30 seconds including the pre-infusion time. Basically what this means is your grind settings are way to coarse...and your tamp pressure is too light. On the Bambino, tamp as not as important, but if you follow the manual it. Will tell you what to expect from a decent shot and how long it should brew for. Oh and the layer on top of the shot is not called creme...it's called crema.
Thanks for your feedback! I never claimed to be a professional. It tastes good and I like it this way. The main reason I created this video was to show how to clean the machine since the manual is very misleading. And I am just showcasing that anyone can make great coffee on this machine, even if it isn't textbook perfect. Anyone reading my comment...if you aren't a professional you can still make great tasting coffee! I will continue to learn and improve my coffee skills over time and so can you! I am a professional at drinking coffee though and let me tell ya...even though it is not a textbook perfect shot it still tastes AMAZING and we save a lot of money. Don't let anyone discourage you because you don't know how to brew a perfect shot. You can still do this!!! Todd, I will take your advise and continue to experiment on our beloved Bambino! Thanks for the view! I hope you have a happy day!!
@@TheHappyKitchenChannel sorry...i didn’t mean to be overly critical. If the coffee is how you like it, then that is great! These machines were designed so that making 'fancy' coffee is easier to do that with more commercial style machines. I am on my second Breville machine in 16 years and I love them.
@@TheHappyKitchenChannel play around with the machine and certainly try the 25 to 30 seconds brew time. When you see the coffee flowing similar to warm honey... you hit the money shot with you grind and you will notice a vast difference in taste. Also, something i learned with these machines... is that 18 grams of coffee is pretty close to the perfect amount in the portafilter. Try it..you'll love it.

You have to pull the wand out and then press and hold the 1 cup button and the froth milk button (not the steam wand button) for a second. “Coffee Kev” channel has a video about that. Bye!

Great review👏👏👏
Thank you for watching!
This is a very helpful video. Thank you!

Good pair The Plus and doser pro. Great vid.
Thank you!
Clear instructive video. Thank you.
Thank you for watching!
Great video I’m thinking about purchasing this one but I’m also on the fence about getting the one with the grinder
However, your calculation of savings is kinda flawed but if you adjust for annual vacation when you aren't home, depreciation on the machine of $100 over say 5 years, the cost of descaling tablets and the savings in gas from not actually driving somewhere for your coffee, its still pretty clear that this machine will save you a fortune in time and $$$! ;-)
Thank you for watching!
Nicely done. Very informative. Subscribed, liked and belled
Thank you so much! I have a couple new breville videos coming in the next few weeks!
I’ve just ordered this machine & grinder, can’t wait to receive them. Thanks for the detailed description. BTW, it’s pronounced BREville, not "BreVELLE"
You got it! Thank you for watching!
Super helpful thanks.
Thank you for watching!
This is an excellent video with good information. Maybe a bit lengthy.
Thank you! I put timestamps in the description if you ever need to refer to just a single part.
Do you have a link to the grinder you use please

What kind of cloth did you use to clean the wind for the steamer? Thank your videos awesome
Just a soft dish cloth. Thank you for watching!
Great review 👌🏾👍🏽
Thank you! And thank you for watching!
Thankfull that I find this You Tube video and have Subsribed. :)
Thank you!!
Nice video 👍🏼 what brand is your coffee grinder?
Thanks
It is also a breville. We love it! Thank you for watching!
We just ordered one ! Do you still love yours??
We are still obsessed! Use it everyday
@@TheHappyKitchenChannel awesome! Thanks so much!
Thank you for uploading this. I’ve been searching for an extensive video like this. By the way, it’s BREville not BreVILLE. It’s an Australian company.
Thank you for watching!
Haha thanks for pointing out. Killed me every time!
Thank you!!!!!!☕️🙌🏻
I've just bought the exact set up you have, the manual for the grinder recommends a 10 second grind time at the 15 setting for a double shot does it largely depend on the type of bean you use?
Thank you for watching! It definitely depends on the bean I’ve found. When we buy a nicer bag of beans we often have to switch up our settings.
@@TheHappyKitchenChannel thanks can't wait to try it. Unfortunately the machine I had delivered was faulty out the box so gotta wait for the exchange now!
@@simonmurray5432 Grab a scale and weigh your coffee. Start with 17-18g and dial the grinder from there.
Just wondering if you run into the problem with the water not flowing into the tray properly from the pressure relief after each shot, and even worse when running cleaning cycles?
No I haven’t experienced that issue. I’d contact customer support if it were happening with my machine
You did a great job!
Thank you much!! Have a happy day!!!
Hello! Do you mind telling me what Oat Milk are u using? I used oatly and it is not creating same texture as yours!
Hi there! No I use spring or filter water. Distilled water won’t taste the same when brewing the espresso. Thank you for watching!
I have that problem too where you almost need to bear hug the machine while locking the portafilter into place. Some days are better than others.
I loved your video and it was very helpful. Where did you get the young loving essential oil holders for your refrigerator?
Thank you so much for watching! Actually my cousin and his wife designed them and 3d printed them! They’re pretty cool. They’re working on opening an online shop to sell them. Once they get it up and running I’ll come back and share the link!
www.etsy.com/listing/1203350233/magnetic-essential-oil-holders
How do you turn it off ?
Go get a funnel, this will prevent the coffee spill all over during the grinding.
I spent about 2 months playing around with pressurized baskets before switching it over to non-pressurized basket. With pressurized basket, you can still play it around with the dosage, playing around the manual programming, preset the pre-infusion time and so on.
I’ll look up a funnel. Hoping to get a non pressurized to experiment with too! Thank you for watching!
A dosing funnel was the best accessory I bought... could not do without it. I do need to look for a non-pressurised basket though.
Thank you
Yes! I always remove the grounds right after too I’m sure that helps!
HI. Does your grinder make a static noise? I hear same kind of noise as old lamps when it's very silent in the kitchen. Also got shocked a few times after grinding. Thank you.
Hello! No mine has never shocked me. Personally I would call customer service!
Nice job!!🤗
Thank you so much for your support!
Great to have this video thank you 😊
Thank you for watching!!!
Thank you so much for this!
Thank you for watching!
don't forget about the cleaning tool under the water tank
It looks to me like you are brewing with the dual-wall basket. Those are designed to be used with ready ground coffee which you buy at the shop. As you are using coffee you grind yourself then the single-wall baskets are the way to go.
how do you clean breville the dose control grinder ?
Hi there! I take it apart and wash everything but the metal burr grinder in warm soapy water. I make sure everything is completely dry before I put it back together. And I wipe the rest of the grinder body down with a gentle spray cleaner. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching!
@@TheHappyKitchenChannel can you do a video I'm more of a Visual learner if you can.
I can make a video sure! I’m sorry it won’t be up till probably the end of may but I can make it happen
Holy cow. Thank you! so much!
Thank you for watching!
What type of water do you use?
Always filtered or spring water. Thank you for watching!
what coffee grinder do you have? i’ve been looking for one like that
Hi there! It’s the Breville Dose Control Pro
I talk about the grinder as well in this video
You don’t need to descale your coffee machine if you ALWAYS put filtered water in it. I have a Breville, it’s now 8 years old, and I never descaled it.
😭😭😭 omg I loved your video! Thank you for posting it!
1) Love the cleaning part - nice things deserved to be nicely maintained , especially at such a cost of a espresso machine 💰💰
2) LOVE your calculations of how much it saved you and your family!
Awesome!! So glad that worked! Have a happy day!!
the shot flowed too fast. change your grind settints to more be friner.
I've owned A Bambino Plus for two years........ the included manual is a joke as regards the cleaning cycles....... do your homework. The cleaning cycle is VERY important to the performance and life of the machine.
你是第一个结尾算账的😅
Well said! I agree. I hope to bring that attitude to all my videos no matter the content.
@@DC-vk2fx that is a very good point. There are a lot of Coffee Snobs out there.
Crema. Not crème
ugh. double shot of espresso in 15 seconds... that is not gonna taste great. well you added milk so...
I would buy Bambino non pro version and with saved money would take her to a date.
