Great freaking tips. Especially on wood insert and putting faucet on first. Also thanks for the bit on the clips. They suck big. I put them in the tracks first after seeing you struggle. Also, I ran the silicone bead before dropping on the top. My mom loves it! Thanks!
The sink clips suck big time, but you can buy clips with longer screws at Lowes for under $3.00. Wish I knew that ahead of time. Search for Elkay 10-Piece Steel Universal Sink Mounting Hardware-Kit. Same style clips, just loner screws. The installation instructions does mention the clips included with the sink are for countertops 1” thick or less. You have to call customer service to get the longer screws. The longer screws work for countertops up to 1.5”. So why not just include them. Boggles the mind.
Thanks for this comment. I installed my sink yesterday using the xl clips yesterday you suggested from Lowe's. The box I bought only had 6 though which I didn't realize until I got home. But I was only securing front and rear anyway on mine 3 each side.
I’ve had this exact model in my garage for about a year and a half since it went on sale. Lol. We’re waiting on our kitchen remodel to use it. I can’t wait now!
Thank you for posting this video. I have a similar sink to your before picture. I am considering ro upgrade. Currently at my location, there is a promo to save $70 from 370 to 300.
The one currently for sale has a slightly different faucet and the sink basin no longer has the sharp corners for gunk to get stuck in. The newer one is just a touch less modern looking but with the new drying rack instead of a cutting board I think its still a solid deal.
Just bought one of these. Great install info. Next thing I need to find is the correct saw/tool for trimming granite sink to fit the corners. Thanks for sharing.
Whenever I DIY anything I just make sure I know where the shut-off is to whatever I'm working on. Worst case you call a professional and you end up paying the same price, best case you learn something, fix it, and gain a sense of achievement. Good luck on your install and remember to have plenty of towels ready (and know how to shut off your water in case the ball valves under the sink don't shut off all the way)
I agree with the clips being the worst part I gave up on the back of my sink as I only had a finger tip width clearance to work with to work with. But I clamped it down well on the sides. And wile the caulking was wet filled the sink with water. And let it sit until the Caulk dried. Otherwise I love ut so far but just installed it today. Only 1 more to go. My daughter also bought one. It will be a couple of weeks until I install it.
If you're considering DYI'ing this check out where your drain pipe is in the wall. This turned out to be a miserable over 12 hour install because I had to cut into my wall and lower the T because of the deeper basin lowering it all. Had I not caught it I would have had stank water backing up into the garbage disposal/sink.
This is a VERY good tip. Thanks for posting. Water does not flow uphill, as you've found out. Part of the reason I held off on installing mine so long was because of how vital the kitchen sink is to a household. A house with no kitchen sink, and no dishwasher drain, is an unhappy home lol. I was lucky enough to have it drain into the floor, even if I did have to add a studor vent.
Every drain configuration will be a little bit different. I don't have a garbage disposal myself. Did you have any questions specifically? I'm glad to help.
I have that exact same sink you are replacing. I hate it. Going on Friday to look at single bowl sinks like the one you bought. Tip: always put the drain, faucet and clips on before you place the sink in the hole. "Let's see if we can hit the window with the faucet..." Then tries. Think about this... what happens when you verify it will hit the window and just misses the board? OOOOppps. Broken window. Why would you do such a test? OMG!!!
If you do buy the kit the faucet has a decent resale value on eBay. After 2 years now I've got used to it, but it does take a considerable amount of pulling strength to overcome the springs tension.
How much deeper is this sink vs a regular 2 bowl sink? I wonder how much lower my garbage disposal will be. Any idea how much higher the draining water needs to be on the sink side vs the opposite side of the p trap to push the water through and drain? thanks
How is the stainless steel holding up, I jus bought the combo kit from Costco, but started reading reviews and multiple reviews say rust on sink within weeks, I'm doing full remodel of kitchen and don't want to replace this sink weeks after install if I can just return it and get dif one
It's been over a month now with no rusting. My wife used a scotchbrite green pad and put swirls in the bottom of it scrubbing grease off but you can't tell unless you look close. Maybe the people getting rust are using steel wool? I will be sure to comment on this video if I ever have a failure of the sink or faucet.
Call Kohler. I called about a bad cartridge on my bathroom sink years after install, told them I did not have the receipt, and they till sent me one. Worth a shot.
Lol right but seriously Kohler would still send a new head for free if you told them you were "seeing how springy it was". I called them once and told them my hot valve was a little harder to turn than my cold valve and they sent me a new valve body free.
Did it have small weld gap on all 4 upper corner, I bought this and seeing weld gap on top, I used flash light we can see light other side. Is this normal?
I’m thinking to get this actually. Appreciate if you can give me some insights. Did you use any sealant around the basin where contact the counter top? If so, any tips for that? Also, would you do anything to improve the faucet’s attachment process. I mean instead of using the slip of wood maybe something else? Or fill something else as well so that it won’t wobble?
Oh wow I cant believe I forgot to mention the sealant. I used GE 100% silicon (clear) around the rim of the sink. I applied the sealant to the counter top then set the sink in. The sealant gooped out the sides and the I used a toothpick to go around and clean it up. This ensures no water gets down into the cabinets. As far as the faucet, I would still use wood. It barely wobbles, I had to check just now before commenting because I don't notice any wobble. The only other tip is to buy some cutting board sealer because the original coat on the cutting board wore off in like a month. I bought walrus oil because I read that using canola oil can get gross, I've never tried canola oil myself but if you have that on hand it's free haha. Thanks for watching.
I did not see anything in the literature prohibiting the use of disposals, but I would give Kohler a call and verify. I've called a few times for parts for other faucets and their support is quick.
You mentioned that the blue plastic was not letting the sink set in right. Would you still have needed to trim your counter if you had removed it first? Great video by the way. I saw this in Costco recently and I'm debating on buying it, but I've never installed a sink before.
I believe the tracks where the hold down clamps go would have still hit the curved rim of the counter top at the corners. The real key to installing the sink was making sure all the dishes were done before I started :)
I have this sink also. It was in the garage for a year also. We got new cabinets and have had it set up for about three months now. I am getting tired of cleaning the mold off the rubber mat. any suggestions? I clean it almost every day and it is a pain in the butt. It is an expensive mat and I am not sure why this is happening so quickly
I too get a grimy mat. The silicone mat is the worst part of the setup. You can buy a stainless steel bottom mat, my family has that one and it is much better. As for mine I just set the faucet to spray mode and spray under the mat to keep it clean.
Any chance you could post the OD measurements of the sink ? Or are the 33” x 22” numbers it ? Thanks, just try to cover area of an old sink. Great vid much appreciated
I'm not sure exactly what size the hole was, but the specification sheet on Kohler's site says the bowl length is 30-1/4 and width is 14-15/16. I'm not sure if that is the inner diameter or outer diameter of the bowl so if you're cutting in quarts or marble you'd want to either contact kohler to verify or err on the side of caution and make the hole 31x16. If you call kohler for the template sheet (Top-mount/Undermount, part number 1130821-7) they may provide it. I can't seem to find a PDF for it. Kohler site for sink that has the install pdfs (and CAD files): www.kohler.com/en/products/kitchen-sinks/shop-kitchen-sinks/pro-inspired-33-x-22-x-9-top-mount-undermount-single-bowl-kitchen-sink-kit-rc78957-1pc?skuId=RC78957-1PC-NA
Sometimes you must redo the drain, I hate plumbers putty for this reason. I usually tighten it up hand tight, then fill the sink with hot water to heat it up, then hand tighten some more. I've installed three sinks now and for each one the drain seal is the biggest pain.
I used the "high loop" method to provide the gap. It's not the best way to do it, but it's the way I've done it for years. To do it proper you'd need to drill a hole into the sink top. I installed a reverse osmosis spigot with a step drill ($7.99 from Harbor Freight) and it was pretty easy to drill through. Good luck!
It actually sat in our living room for about a year. I finally decided to install it once we had our reverse osmosis system leak and I had to replumb the kitchen sink anyway.
@@striker1211 I don't see the air gap in the sink. Can you please explain more clearly (or with photo) . I bought the same model from Costco and I don't know how/what to do with air gap from dishwasher . Thanks you very much.

Im installing this same sink with a disposal this weekend. Im not very handy so Im kinda dreading it. Thanks for the video!

Can't wait for the update!
It's been five months, still happy with it. I had to reseal the cutting board with walrus oil but that is normal for any cutting board.
Thank you. Also, did you find the faucet hard to keep clean and the sharp corners of the sink? Thank you for the input.
Beautiful sink. I also have a 31 inch artika stainless steel single basin sink that i got from costco too.
cant believe he didnt show disposal/drain hook up
Every drain configuration will be a little bit different. I don't have a garbage disposal myself. Did you have any questions specifically? I'm glad to help.
The box says that it can be either top mounted or under mounted. Do the provided clips work for both installations?

Thanks for watching. To answer your question on the window test, our windows are very old and drafty. I would not have been too sad :)
Looks like a fine sink to shit in to me, well done man. LET'S GET BANGIN'
that faucet is a big NO..WTH with a spring on the cord faucet. 🙈 I’ll be keeping my new faucet installed last year…
If you do buy the kit the faucet has a decent resale value on eBay. After 2 years now I've got used to it, but it does take a considerable amount of pulling strength to overcome the springs tension.
Any updates? I have read several complain about rust
No rust at all. We have a water softener, idk if that matters. We also don't use anything metal to scrub the sink.
How much deeper is this sink vs a regular 2 bowl sink? I wonder how much lower my garbage disposal will be. Any idea how much higher the draining water needs to be on the sink side vs the opposite side of the p trap to push the water through and drain? thanks

Am very disappointed after 2 week of installation am seeing rust. Can someone tell me what to do to prevent rust
Baught this sink 3 years ago and loved it but now I trying to find out where can I find o rings for the pull down faucet?
Call Kohler. I called about a bad cartridge on my bathroom sink years after install, told them I did not have the receipt, and they till sent me one. Worth a shot.

How is the sink working for you now? Upgrading from old double basin.
It's been great. No issues really.
Did it have small weld gap on all 4 upper corner, I bought this and seeing weld gap on top, I used flash light we can see light other side. Is this normal?
I do not see any weld gap, mine looks like a stamped piece of stainless steel.
I checked mine. It looks as you mentioned, welded. I will be taking a closer look with flashlight.
I’m thinking to get this actually. Appreciate if you can give me some insights.

Yes I converted a double bowl like he had to this sink...no problems...
Can anyone provide the dimensions needed of the hole for drop in mounting? Thanks!
How much?
That the sink show any rust stains ?
Nope, no stains. Just don't use steel wool to clean it and you'll be good. Thanks for watching.
how did you install the air gap for the dishwasher? Loop the pipe?
Yup, high loop. Check your local codes to make sure an air gap device is not required.
You mentioned that the blue plastic was not letting the sink set in right. Would you still have needed to trim your counter if you had removed it first? Great video by the way. I saw this in Costco recently and I'm debating on buying it, but I've never installed a sink before.

What measurement was the hole in your countertop please? Thank you

I just opened mine up and can’t find the strainer…
It's in a tiny white box by itself
The drain leaked after the plumbers putty and I feel like I tightened it really well. Do you have any tips?
Sometimes you must redo the drain, I hate plumbers putty for this reason. I usually tighten it up hand tight, then fill the sink with hot water to heat it up, then hand tighten some more. I've installed three sinks now and for each one the drain seal is the biggest pain.
Hows it holding up?
It's still doing fine. The cutting board dried out and we need to reapply oil.
Hi there- what did you do with the air gap for the dishwasher? I have this sink now and that is my main concern
I used the "high loop" method to provide the gap. It's not the best way to do it, but it's the way I've done it for years. To do it proper you'd need to drill a hole into the sink top. Wow doing this we a newborn how do you even have the time! Awesome job!
It actually sat in our living room for about a year. I finally decided to install it once we had our reverse osmosis system leak and I had to replumb the kitchen sink anyway.
Those clips really do suck, especially because my counter was too thick for them. Question, where did you put the dishwasher drain/ air gap.
My dishwasher hose enters from the right with plenty of length so I looped it up with the top of the loop higher than the drain weir.
@@striker1211 I don't see the air gap in the sink. Can you please explain more clearly (or with photo) . I bought the same model from Costco and I don't know how/what to do with air gap from dishwasher . Thanks you very much.
What is the name of the saw you used?
I used a $30 masterforce oscillating tool from menards.
Where is dishwasher excess water spout? Can that be installed?
Do you mean an air gap? You would have to drill a hole as there is not one predrilled, if your dishwasher or codes require it.
@@striker1211 thanks!
What are the measurements on the stencil ?
The cutout stencil can be found under Design Files on Kohler site: www.kohler.com/en/products/kitchen-sinks/shop-kitchen-sinks/pro-inspired-33-x-22-x-9-top-mount-undermount-single-bowl-kitchen-sink-kit-rc78957-1pc?skuId=RC78957-1PC-NA
Can you tell me how tall the faucet sticks up from the sink? I want to buy this kit but I have cabinets above that I’m worried might be too low.
I will check when I get home. The spec sheet for the part doesn't look right so I'll bust out the good ol fashioned tape measure
Just measured, it's 21-1/8 inches.
Did you use a disposal?
Nope, sorry.
$300 sink plus $200 faucet on a $25 counter top?
Terrible!
