What a transformation. I don't know what was more work though, swapping the frame or editing this video! Editing was on point! Great video
Thanks so much!!
What else would you expect a guy with 'discipline' tattooed on his arm to accomplish?! Keep up the great work!
Really happy for you! Awesome choice for the bike and I feel that this is your best video yet in terms of cinematography 👏🏼
Thanks a ton! I really wanted to try a differnt style and did a lot of research into creating a "narrative thread" within a video.
Mad respect to you and all the pro-wrenchers out there that keep us non-mechs riding on safe and reliable steeds.
Fantastic video!
Serously! The good motorcycle tech's are so valuable!!
Way cool man. Both the Aprilia and your garage.
I feel proud and embarrassed that I knew what the bike was prior to the reveal based on the 4in of frame and weld line.
Motorcycles and puppers. We love to see it.
14 years ago, I feel so old. I remember when she arrived in your garage...
That's a fine looking doggo!
Thanks. He sure is.
probably my favourite video of yours. love this !!!
Wow, thank you! I really wanted to try a different style. I put a lot of time/effort into doing something new.
A real beauty I would say💥🏍 Congratulations to the new bike. I am riding a Tuono Factory 2018 since three years and enjoy every day on my bike. Thanks for sharing your project.
Good choice!
nice, very jealous, but happy to see your new videos with Tuono :)
Thanks! 😃
Love this video, Dave, and absolutely LOVE what you’re doing with the channel.
I appreciate that!
Awesome Dave, just bloody awesome.👍👍🏍️🏍️
Such a sweet bike, ultimate track machine 👏
I can tell you put a lot of love into this video Dave. Keep up the great work!
I really did. I wanted to try something a little different. Thanks for noticing!!
@@CanyonChasers I can tell. You did a lot of storytelling using your camera and video editing in this one. Your other videos are geared more towards straight to the point information. I love both styles. You do them both really well 👍!
My background is journalism. So I've been "reporting." Here are the facts and the details. Add some anecdotes, etc. But I really wanted to tell a story - and could I tell a story without speaking?
@@CanyonChasers I would have guessed a master's degree in engineering. Well done!
Nice one, Dave! It sounds healthy. 😁💪🏼
Bang up job turning a salvage bike into a track monster! A buddy of mine did something similar, he bought his totaled Ninja 400 from the insurance company and turned it into a track bike. Rebuilding it was more satisfying than buying one just for that.
There is something really rewarding about rescuing a bike.
I also bought a V4 motorcycle after watching the F9 and D4A videos.
2007 VFR800 25th Anniversary Edition baby!!!
V4 Victory!!
Great choice! My 2020 RSV4 FACTORY has been running strong on the track since day 1!
Well, I rarely see Ducatis finish a trackday... and Aprilias are like... unicorns compared to Ducatis. Once upon a time, I really wanted to buy a 2016 Tuono V4, then I talked to an Aprilia specialist mechanic. So I wish you the best of luck! :D
We’ll see how this goes. Folks said the same thing when I bought the 848 but it never missed a beat in 14 years of hard labor.
Nice one. Tuono FTW 🥳😎
The chain saw is a nice touch.
Haha. I was wondering if anyone would catch that.
Nice job Dave. Looks Ace. Sounds Ace. Goes fast 😁
Time and a place, it fell into your lap… and off the stand
Guessing it’s nothing like a Tuono anymore? Hope to see an honest review of this build as I can’t imagine you not lamenting the lack of a Ducati underneath you. Great video.
It's strangely still quite different from an RSV4. And I'm not really brand loyal. Ducati is still awesome. But so is this Aprilia.
Nicely done....gorgeous bike, looking forward to track vids on it.
Just uploaded one
awesome video, so cool that you saved it from salvage, those mountains are breathtaking ! 👍
Thanks and yeah, I have to live near mountains!
love this Dave!!
Very nice. Slc? Used to live there until 2012. Really liked it. Sometimes think about going back.
I've been mulling over swapping my street bike to something new and the Tuono is up there on the list. Everyone says once you go v4 there's no going back. But as a do everything machine I'm not sure it's suited for the mundane commuting and regular low speed tooling around I sometimes do.
I got the Tuono. Then had to get a V4 multi. So they are addictive. But they put out a grundle of heat. They want to be moving.
Absolutely loved this, start to finish!
Thank you!!
Can't wait to see more transformations :)
Blue vest looks good on you 💙
Great video bro
Thank you 🙌
Awesome bikes for the track 😎🍻
Yes they are!
Nice bike, nice dog, nice truck, nice chainsaw - excellent video!
Ha! You caught the chainsaw! Love it!!
Beautiful! Best.
Many thanks!
Love the idea of converting a Tuono into a track bike - was everything fitted from a RSV4? (Clip ons, fairings etc)
absolutely spectacular video
Glad you enjoyed it
Great vid!!!
Greetings from the PPRC GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS.
Hey, thanks!
Hope you enjoy your new track weapon. RSV's bring a heck of a soundtrack.
First, a round of applause for making a video "explaining" why you needed to put the 848 to pasture! 14 dog years! I bow to your creativity! I'm going to ask my buddy, Tom to calculate the dog-year age of his 1983 single-owner Goldwing......
Well, track bikes age like dogs. I think well taken care of street bikes much age much slower. They'll outlive us, right?
Congrats man! Hope it will serve like the previous one, and better!
Seriously! Me too!!
Loved this 🤘🏼
Thank you!
great story, nicely done! 🎉
I know you said in the last podcast that you’re trying something new, so it went quite well!
and what a bike! ❤
Thank you so much! I spent so much more time on this than previous videos because I was trying to figure it all out. I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
@@CanyonChasers we’re here for the dog and the bikes. Don’t think anyone’s here to count errors.. so enjoy yourself! More stories please!
That is greatly appreciated
Amazing job. Any future videos of the indepth teardown and rebuild? Be cool to watch.
I hadn’t planned an in-depth video. But I was thinking maybe a kind of a bike review video.
That's a beautiful machine man! Nice work!
Thank you very much!
Looks fantastic mate! Well done!!
Thank you! Cheers!
6:27 you don't use a funnel, you monster!!!
Nice!!! Love that sound!!
Me too!
love your videos, great job getting everything done on time but can you tell me what shade of Red did you paint the fairings. love the red 👍
It's actually almost an orange color in real life - I just tried to match the Aprilia Orange, which is really close to Corsa Red (not ferrari Corsa red - which is a dark red). I know this isn't very helpful, which I why I asked my painter to match an OEM panel.
Oh my..... 🤩🤤
That's gotta be a handful on the track..... and an insane amount of fun! 😃👍❤🏍
Surprisingly, it’s not. It’s really easy to ride fast. And it does make me giggle inside my helmet … a lot.
@@CanyonChasers I have no doubt the giggle factor is off the charts. 😎👊
👊 ✌️
NGL, this is gonna be a killer track bike!
NGL. It's probably the most fun motorcycle I've ever ridden! It makes me giggle inside my helmet constantly! Not just for the power or the sound - but man, it handles better than anything else I've spent quality time on.
As soon as you said 'motorcycle' Chase went from looking excited for a walk, to laying down with dejection...
Right. haha.
Are you planning more vids about this? I'm curious about the pro/con Tuono vs RSV4 for track use?
I was planning on a bike review kind of video.
that sound, man !
Right!?!
Congrats Dave! Sure it’s improving a lot compared to the 848 😊
Design wise it’s a regression in my opinion though 😂
Now time to change my brake fluid on my Super Duke. Less efficient than a Tuono but that’s the bike I love 😉
I do agree. The Aprilia isn’t as pretty and I already miss the simplicity of the Single Sided Swingarm. But man, everything else about the bike is aces!
@@CanyonChasers i know. It’s the perfect weapon. And her sound!!!! OMG! This I’m jealous of. A body of mine also has a 2019 factory but all the customer service issues he faced. Months to get a spare part, warranty problems etc. and we are in Europe.
A pity as for some it’s the best track and canyon bike.
Still I won’t exchange with my KTM 😊
Geeze! you would realy think that it would better in Europe. He we kinda' expect that thing as the closest Aprilia dealer is primarily an Indian/Cruiser dealer. They don't seem to know the first thing about these bikes.
@@CanyonChasers don’t know if it improved but at the time it took 4 months to get a standard part from the factory.
P.S: why not trade for an Indian? Just a bit slower on track for sure but no more misunderstanding at the dealership 😂
Planning to take my new Tuono to a trackday and wondering what frame protection would be the best bet. Carbon covers? Frame sliders? Would like to know your take on that.
Well. I like the look of raw aluminum, so I don't like the Carbon Covers.
But I tend to not like most frame sliders because I've seen them do more damage than protect. The bike will slide along until hit hits the dirt, the slider digs in and the bike flips. I've even seen them peel a frame open like a banana. I've seen the ones on swingarms completely twist and bend it when It probably would have been fine otherwise. So I go for the ultra low profile ones if at all. Graves makes one that looks good and I have these extremely low profile ones from RG on mine.
But I ALWAYS run case covers. I love the GB racing case covers. I also tend to always run sliders on the front axel to protet the bottom of the forks, but really shy away from any slider on the rear swingarm.
Saw you at the Trackday Circus this past week. Was a great event. Road my 2018 tuono V4 1100 RR, not the factory unfortunately, in group B. It is stock right now, but looking to make it into a full on track bike or just buy the RSV4. What would you change realistically on the tuono to turn it into a track bike? I saw you put some aftermarket rsv4 racing fairings. Was that a hard adaptation? How was it putting the clip ons on? Would love to see a step by step how to video :) on making this change. Beautiful bike!
Aside from the bodywork, you need clipons, the intake runners and the fairing stay. That’s all that really needs to change.
Lol my new daily is an 1100 factory 😂 nice man!
Nice!!
Cool! Tuono doesn't have different gearbox ( not gearing) compared with the superbike version? If not that's awesome. Usually the naked versions put in a different gearbox in and move the power down lower, adding more torque.
The Tuono doesn’t have adjustable frame pivots. It’s has different cam lobes, velocity stacks and air box. It also comes with a bigger rear sprocket and different triple clamps. I think those are the biggest differences.
@@CanyonChasers oh I see! Thanks for the insight!
BUILD VIDEO!
As my Track bike I bought a non running 2014 Aprilia V4 Tuono APRC that was a Statuary right off only had 870 miles picked it up for a song only required usual peg & lever, battery & fuel pump (reason it wouldn't run). I have a '21 Tuono V4 1100 RR as my road bike - vids on my channel.
Right on!
@@CanyonChasers We have 5 Tuono's in the family, other 3 are all twins. Been watching your rider advice vids for ages.
There really is something magic about those V4's, right?
@@CanyonChasers Absolutely, loved all the little clips you used about V4 best engine. I've never really liked inline 4's had twin's 890 Duke R & V2 Tuono's so naked & torque is my gizz.
I’ve always really wanted a V4. I almost got my hands on a grey market NC30. They are exceedingly rare over here. But I agree. I’ve spent most of my life on twins and triples. I never fell in love with i4s.
Damn that was a badass build. Putting some money into that
Not as much as you’d think. The bodywork and the forged wheels were the only spendy bits.
@@CanyonChasers Can you do a vid on the parts n suppliers you used for this build, I see you also changed to clip-ons.
Yeah, I still need to put this onto the website. When I put it there, I'll do a full shopping list. I put on OEM clipons, but had to swap the triple-clamps so the steering damper would clear the bodywork.
@@CanyonChasers Does the RSV4 clipons not interfere with the gas tank and front fairing? I currently have a woodcraft clipons on my tuono and can't do a full lock turn.
I couldn’t get clipons to work on the Tuono because, yeah, they fouled the front fairing and the intake runners. So I ran a lower Rizoma bar for the few times I used it before the full on build.
Did you reuse the front forks or swap em out for shorter ones? Looks awesome like that btw!
Nope.
Can you post all of your B-roll? nice job and I want to see what is on the editing floor.
It would be pretty boring. We did a whole series of videos on our last build, and people really only watched the last episode.
@@CanyonChasers Yea I bet.... I like boring sometimes.......it shows details and I learn. I like to learn.
In the end, does it have a salvaged title still? Which parts make up the actual "bike" in regards to a title?
I now have two clear title frames, and two clear titles. But if I were to sell it as is, the numbers on the frame/motor wouldn't match, which would be red-flag for a buyer (especially if the damaged frame and other title were not disclosed).
Good job👌
Thanks 😅
Nicely done! You obviously have some serious wrenching skills to take on such a project. Props and sweeeeet scoot! Trade you my V2 Ducati for her? ;)
Thank you. It’s honestly not all that complicated. Most just R&R. Remove and Replace.
@@CanyonChasers I appreciate your humility - most of us would find we end up with a handful of bolts, washers, nuts, sleeves, etc left over after the "replace" is completed. :)
whats the purpose of the rubber band?
Most rearsets don't have a return spring on the rear brake, so it keeps the pedal from rattling and provides some slight resistance when using it.
Let us know how the track day went. 😅
I understand how much extra horsepower you get for the stickers but doesn't it also subtract from both the aerodynamics and horsepower when you don't align the stickers the same way on each side?? Seems rather boujee. 🙂 Not sure I would place much confidence that other things were assembled correctly if someone couldn't pay attention to that small detail. So much for discipline. Have fun on the track!
Les than 5 mins into vid,, do you mention total cost (savings without your labor ) of this compared to getting a ready to ride version?
I didn’t but a ready to ride version would be about $20k. I’m in this about $8k.
@@CanyonChasers nice !
Help me brother Aprilia is leaking non stop I changed three gaskets
😢 *Promo SM*
Waste of time
