The price of PVC has increased post Covid, but than again what hasn’t? Awesome for creating the perfect length and height and still remaining light weight. I created a van bed build that straddles the front passenger seat in its fully reclined position using 1-1/4” pvc. This setup has legs on each end, no support leg in the middle. To increase the strength of pvc, I inserted wooden staircase hand rails that fit perfectly inside the 1-1/4” pvc pipe. Just a tip, if you need to strengthen up your pvc a little. Thanks for creating this video!!
That’s pretty awesome. I’m building a small minimalist camper for my wife, myself and our daughter. She’ll be in a cot suspended above us. Until now I couldn’t get my head around how I was going to pull it off. Thanks for thi inspiration and tips!
Angela Escobar 1680 denier Traveler Nylon. 1050 denier is the toughest you can get, but it’s a bit rough on the skin. If you sleep with a thin mattress pad that won’t be an issue.
i just bought all the parts at home depot total cost was $198.36. does not include the fabric that i got a walmart for $6and some change per yard. so its about the sane as buying one online. however if your doing van life or have smaller space needs smaller beds then this is the way to go. i used a hacksaw so it was hard to make a clean cut through but they still worked att the same. great video and great instructions
This, but for an adult! And instead of a second bunk, a hooped top (like a monkey hut) that you could stake a tarp over or make a cover for! DIY cot tent! :D
Good idea! If the upper part will only hold a tarpyou could transition down to a smaller pvc and then they could nest inside the larger pieces. It would pack up alot smaller and be cheaper
@@redneckryan Wished I learned about how strong PVC pipes can be for van building 2 years ago. I wasted money on a heavy metal frame cot that doesn't even fit inside my van.
I know this is an older video, so you might not see it, but how has the new version held up? I was also wondering if you thought it would be possible to add a railing to the top bunk? I have Roly poly children. Haha. I was thinking one side could have a full rail and the other side a half rail for ease of use, but I'm not sure if that would affect its ability to be packed down small.
It has held up well. Redesigning with a small rail wouldn't be a bigle isue, I have Roly polys too but between the sag in the fabric and the sleeping bag holding them in, they never fell off.
Hello Ryan, I am wanting to make your PVC camping bunk bed. What glue did you use? and would you suggest adding a stabilizing bar like you did with the first one...If so, what pieces do you need for that?
Awesome! You will need pvc cement and primer, they sell it in the plumbing section. Not sure what you mean by stabilizing bar but the design for the second one is much improved I wouldn't change anything. Let me know how it goes!
How about making one for me. I'd like one to fit the bed of my gmc Sierra. Then my kids can sleep on them. My wife and I then can use the air mattress on the truck bed floor
Thank you! I have been looking at the bunk cots online and they are too expensive for me and I need them a little shorter for my 4 year and 1 year old grandsons for our camper and wc can add on a top railing for this too. How many yards of fabric did you use?
Yep, canvas would be the thing to do, I used something alittle lighter, I will remake with duck cloth because it is already starting to tear after 2 trips.
You can purchase canvas on amazon here- amzn.to/34ZCCeN for a good price, or if you don't mind paying a little more fabric stores should have stock, make sure you use a coupon 😀
It "holds" me (200lb) but would beef it up to 1 1/4 pvc if I was going to build it for an adult. I would trust it for a light adult on the bottom and a kid on the top

Happy to help. Let us know how it turns out!
Nice job! I’m fabricating one out of 1-1/2 PVC so it will be sturdier for adults. Perfect for our base camp bunks. Light & strong.
Awesome. Let me know how it turns out!

Did you make the pvc bunk bed? I'm thinking of doing the same thing. I just ordered my camper so I have a few months to get my ducks in a row. Thanks
That's pretty neat.

WOW, PVC prices have really gone up did ypu use 1" PVC or something bigger? I'm glad it worked out for you though.
Well done! Stay safe.

Oh no
Wow cool much cheaper than those bunk bed ones at cabelas or something lol thanks
Yep. Couldn't justify spending $300.

How many hours dedicated to making one of these PVC bunks??
Definitely a great piece, I love PVC
I got it done in about 3-4 hours.
I was wondering, instead of glue use screws on joints to be taken apart? Just a thought!
I designed it so it could be taken apart. Pvc is designed to be glued, screws over time will crack the plastic and weaken the joint. You could try it!
@@redneckryan Thanks for the info. I pla on making one for myself, heavier so I have no problems getting out of bed on camping trips. 😅
AMAZING!!
It is amazing what you can do with some PVC and alittle know-how!

Do you have a direct link to the specific duck cloth you used? And do you think 8oz would hold?
8boz should be fine, as long as the kids aren't too heavy. Make sure to double stitch everything. When my old one ripped it was at the seams.
Luv this!
Thanks Jen, I thought of it all by my self, thought I share it with the world.

I got 7 yards and had a bit left over
@@redneckryan Thank you!
Keep the old cots in case you have to house tiny kids
Make one of the kids sleep overs a bug in practice for emergencies
Good tutorial! What type of material did you use? Looks like a canvas. Now teach he girls to put it together, one less thing for you to set up. :D
Yep, canvas would be the thing to do, I used something alittle lighter, I will remake with duck cloth because it is already starting to tear after 2 trips.
I like the helmet cam. Do you glue your pipe in at an exact distance because if you didn't it seems like it wouldn't be even
I still have need help/instructions for a bike stand. I wonder if I could use PVC for that because I can't do welding
Yes, always push the pvc until it bottoms out in the connector. Remind me about the bike stand next time I see you I have some ideas.
Where can you get the canvas or duck cloth at?
You can purchase canvas on amazon here- amzn.to/34ZCCeN for a good price, or if you don't mind paying a little more fabric stores should have stock, make sure you use a coupon 😀
Very cool! May I ask how much did it cost you for all the material? Thanks
If I had to buy everything it would come out under $100usd.
Now only if I have a sewing machine and know how to sew! 😂 Thanks for sharing!
How much did the pvc pipes cost in total?
I spent around $50 for the whole project. But that was 2 years ago, I would have to price everything up again.
would this hold the weight of an adult?
It "holds" me (200lb) but would beef it up to 1 1/4 pvc if I was going to build it for an adult. I would trust it for a light adult on the bottom and a kid on the top
Where is the parts list
In the description.
I'll send measurements and pay you for to make me a set
Haha, I'm not trying to go into buisness. Sorry.
