    I LOVED this episode. This season hasn't missed a beat so far as far as I'm concerned.

    Moment that made me laugh the most - La'an running desperately to her quarters so she can keep her heart song private (followed closely by realising the Klingon 'dishonor' was singing K-pop!)

    I’m having a great deal of fun with this show because they’re having a great deal of fun doing this show. The acting, the writing, the sets, the costume designs, the characters and their interactions… I can go on and on. I love Star Trek: Strange New Worlds!

    OMG, I loved loved LOVED this episode! Everybody did such a great job! I could listen to Ethan Peck sing all day. And the Klingons! My god! When Pike said "nobody wants a singing Klingon" or whatever I immediately said "oh yes I do! and you better give it to me!". I was with Mike thinking it might be Opera or something crazy. I loved what they did. Man this was so much fun! I really think Strange New Worlds might be my favorite Trek.

    This is my favorite episode of the season. Not only were the songs done extraordinarily well, but everything was relevant and revealing. Personally, I could make an argument that this is even better than Buffy's "Once More with Feeling" for a non-musical series doing a musical. Wasn't sure what to expect, but I was genuinely impressed.

      And I'm still firmly on the side of too much Kirk this season. Something that should've been used sparingly.

    I loved this episode. even though Im not a musicals person and actually get second hand embarrassment for characters when they sing. I like the way they handled the Kirk and La’An stuff. She told him without telling him. I didn’t think Kirk knew about David. I really like that it was Uhura who figured out the solution. Since the start of the series, they’ve tied her character to music and song. It really fits thematically. My favorite song was Chapel’s. I just loved the brassy jazz pop it leaned into. And I appreciate that Spock’s song was filled with math puns. And the Klingons singing K-Pop was hilarious. I am disappoint there wasn’t a shanty song. They’re sailors, there should’ve been a shanty. My only real downside is I felt you could really hear the autotune on the other songs and I felt it was distracting.

    I'm sorry, is nobody else not bothered by the fact that this show is is called star trek strange new worlds and in this season we have only visited 1 strange world and it was a world that we have already seen in star trek? Not to mention were is the Star Trek in this show? everyone is so damn emotional, and the captain has barley been seen it this season and when we do he is cooking! The only thing I like in this episode was some of the songs were good and everyone is sooo good looking.

    The Klingon boy band was one of the funniest moments in all of Star Trek. Really liked the episode, not quite as much as the crossover episode. Finishing the last song by playing the Alexander Courage Star Trek theme was * chef's kiss *.

    The only difference I have with guys is about the Klingon bit. Here on Earth... today, we refer to Korean Hip-Hop music as K-Pop. In this new Star Trek Universe of the future, K-Pop is Klingon Hip-Hop.

    Other than the Klingon part falling flat at the end for me, I thought it was great. The songs were great, and it all made sense plotwise. Last week was the Best Episode of the season for me, and this one is right behind it. Overall I am 4 for 9 on the Season - Hoping it ends well next week.

    • @chupie
      @chupie Рік тому

      Yup. My head canon is that is the wedding Picard references. Late in life. Chapel would
      Have been in her 8th or 9th decade so for the lifespan of the era they could have a good 20 years at least and then Spock goes on to cement Romulan/Vulcan reunification before getting lost.

    So you guys are talking about an episode that contradicts Arena with great enthusiasm then you talk about how it connects. It doesn't connect at all the whole message of the episode and the Gorn is dont jugde another culture because they look different or have another view in regards to justice. The federation meet the Gorn in TOS period!! Unless you count this a reboot like Batman begins!!

    I saw your thumbnail with music signs on it, telling me this episode is a stupid musical 🤬 Sorry but I FING HATE MUSICALS in tv shows that come out of nowhere. Good to know so I won't waste my time watching this one!

  • @adamjimenez9003
    @adamjimenez9003 Рік тому +1

    I didn't hate the episode, but I think that this continues the trend of disserving the characters, what becomes clear to me is that the people writing Star Trek have no idea that if you are serving on a Starship you are the best in your field, sure you learn new stuff every day on a mission of discovery, but you are the best Starfleet has to offer, and thers is no characters more evident of this to me more then Mr Spock and Uhura, they literally have Spock sing a song about being the ex boyfriend, that is the most insulting thing to Spock as character and just demonstrates ignorance in who these characters are, and let alone what they are doing with Chappel, the more agency they give her it just makes her look bad, because we know that in Kirks Enterprise she is back and she is soooo madly in love with Spock, so what happens with all the cool stuff they are giving her to do in this series, all that has to be thrown out the window cause she's gonna come back and always love Spock. At the end of the day this episode was ok, songs were ok, but I think Star Trek has stopped being about exploration and discovering new civilizations and uncovering human truths via intergalactic allegory and now its only about who likes who on the Enterprise and if their gonna be able to bone or not.

    • @marshsundeen

      It does not discount that. We know Chappell ends up engaged to Dr Kirby.

    • @Playhouse76
      @Playhouse76 Рік тому +1

      This sets up Chapel's engagement to Roger Korby. And we can see how eventually she'll be pining for Spock and how he's governed himself from those kinds of emotions. I don't think this ignores where either character ends up on TOS at all.

    • @adamjimenez9003
      @adamjimenez9003 Рік тому +1

      @@Playhouse76 yeah it does, but then we are learning nothing new about these characters because they are so beholden to what we know happens in Kirks Enterprise so you would imagine that they would lean into the characters the created take Ortegas for example, by far one of the most interesting characters she gets saddled with the dumbest lines and relegated to like a minute of screentime and that's overall my problem with the show week to week Star Trek is become an amalgam of other pop culture stuff, including itself, i.e. this episode hey this is the buffy musical episode, Star Trek should be setting trends not following them and get me even more railed up because I don't hate the show I'm just constantly let down by it, because I like everyone on the show and having them stuck in a subpar show to me pisses me off. Sorry if I came in a little hot there, I'm not here to tell anybody that they should like something, especially not Star Trek.

    • @Playhouse76
      @Playhouse76 Рік тому +1

      @@adamjimenez9003 Have to disagree. Uhura alone is getting more fleshed out than she ever was in TOS, the movies, or even the Kelvin timeline stuff. Spock continues to get new colors, which is tough to do with the rigidity built into the character. We're learning more and more about Pike beyond the big points we knew from 'The Cage' and 'The Menagerie'. Una is already well expanded upon from the Number One we see in 'The Cage' with space open to learn more. And Chapel and M'Benga have become full-fledged people beyond anything we saw of them in TOS. And we still have more to go.
      They really only have two main characters they've created wholecloth, aside from also Hemmer and Pelia. I do agree on Ortegas. They don't appear to know what they want to do with her yet.
      But La'an has gotten more meat to work with. I'm not necessarily sold on how much interaction with Kirk she's had, but she's had a good arc in her interpersonal interactions over both seasons so far.
      For me, what I like about the show, and what distinguishes it from other Trek series -- we had 543 episodes of weekly exploration (I'm not including DS9 in that tally nor any of the NuTrek series) and 13 films -- is both the focus on the characters and their interactions and the decision to do a different style/genre with each episode. Plus, as much as TOS and TNG did explore great sci-fi concepts, TOS in particular was designed to be an adventure show: "'Wagon Train' to the stars". It leaned into that more than I think people tend to remember. So a series having fun with itself, while also exploring characters, works for me.

    • @adamjimenez9003
      @adamjimenez9003 Рік тому

      @@Playhouse76 Sure I can agree that they get more screentime and more to do, but is that of any consequence, nothing has weight and that's from its conception, because we know where we are headed, and that's a problem with anything that is a prequel, not only a thing from this show, but putting that aside we had never seen this era of the Enterprise and so far in the season they have had and the episodes so far I now know why we didn't see those stories; because they are not interesting at all so far as what I've seen, they seem to not have a grasp of what these character did and are in TOS, Uhura does not feel like Uhura from TOS, I can't believe this Uhura becomes that person, Spock I think is the hugest offender of this, there is no way this MR Spock, who behaves like a teenager in a 90s teem drama will become the Mr Spock from TOS, just in this episode alone they have him sing a song about being an ex, Mr Spock is not just now discovering his emotions, they treat him like he just got them, he has always had them, that's why he made the choice to live by logic, and even when he does show emotion in TOS he isnt a 8 year old child about it, take something like This Side of Paradise or The Naked Time (which this clearly is inspired by) Spock ther doesn't behave like a child and there he is letting his emotions take control, more in Paradise then Naked Time and he behaves like a normal human being but this show feels the need to reduce everyone to behaving like teenagers, when this is a show about a military operation, they can have and certainly will have love feuds, but they are the best the earth has to offer and they certainly don't behave like such, Mr Spocks reaction to Chapel's song would have been like "oh...congratulations" and move on, he says in Naked Time to Kirk "when I feel for you I am ashamed" "I couldn't say I love you to my mother" (I'm paraphrasing) but there is no way this Spock has those troubles we just saw him lashing out in defense of his mother a few episodes ago. And I dig the choice to be very episodic, I really liked last weeks episode and episode 2 was great as well and those 2 are the example to me that this show can be exceptional, but at times just takes the easy way out with these plotlines that feel like something out of a Netlfix series and not the good ones.
