the only thing stops me from buying the basic is the lack of warm light... Warm light is a must for night reading. I prefer the size and recessed screen of the basic a lot.
I've been happy with my basic kindle. I take it everywhere cause you never know when you'll have to kill time during the day. I'll likely make the same decision next upgrade as well. All I need it to do is show me books.
I love the smaller and lighter format of the basic version, the paperwhite would be just too big and heavy for my needs. The basic perfectly fits into my pockets when I´m on the go and I only read books. For graphic novels I would use a much bigger device like a tablet etc. The only disappointment ist the basic lacks of the warmer light. Nice strategy, Amazon... But I guess the next basic version will have warm light - just for idiots like me to buy a new Kindle.
very happy with the paperwhite 11th edition. I like the smooth screen and faster response time over my older one. It hangs up less on bigger books copared to the older one too. It's a perfect size too. ( of course the on/off button should be on top though)
Excellent review but honestly to my eyes the Basic Kindle appears to have the darker blacks compared to the Paperwhite. I would love to see you compare the BASIC 2022 and the BASIC 2024 editions.
He said the colors, brightness, contrast, etc... "doesn't translate well through videos the camera kinda adjusts for one thing..." the camera modifies the colors depending on the focus (or other automatic settings). Sometimes the blacks will seem darker in one device or the other, and the video confirms this for me... at least sometimes I see the blacks darker in the basic model too. We must believe in what he sees/says, if he says the blacks look darker in the *Paperwhite* it must be that way.
I own both as well. I think the basic has better blacks and better contrast and it might be because the top glass on the paperwhite leads to more light refraction.
@RobOngrui Excellent point that's possible. I don't have the new one's yet but I do have the 2021 Paperwhite and the 2022 Basic here. I see the same thing, the BLACK on the Basic is definitely darker than the BLACK on the 2021 Paperwhite 5.
Omg that screen looks SO BLUE I'm sure it's also the camera adjusting the colors but yeah, without a warm light the basic is a no-go for me, even tho I like everything else about it
Yes it is. I replaced my paperwhite from 2014 to basic 2024. 2014 has also only one light colour but it is far away from the blueish 2024 version. The good thing is that after a couple of days I feel I can get used to it.
Thanks for making this video. I'm trying to decide which to buy. I've avoided ereaders for years, using my phone for ebooks because of my worsening eyesight. This helped make the choice easy. White is too harsh for me to look at for too long, regardless of brightness. And blue is the worst colour for my eyes. But the paperwhite has the orange tone which is perfect for my eyes. I wish it was the smaller screen, just because I'm used to a phone. But I'll get used to the bigger screen. As long as I can still hold it with one hand.
Maybe it's just me, but the basic looks easier (clearer text) to read when you show the inside of a book. I also don't like the warm light, I guess everyone is different.
Well the paperwhite flush screen requires an additional layer on top of the base E-inks and front light layer, which is something the basic doesn't have. Because of the extra layer, the screen on the paperwhite look slightly worse and has more glare.
I think this is because the water protection (IPX8) from the *Paperwhite* model must be adding an extra layer to the screen (it's my guess), while the basic version lacks this extra protective layer (hence no IPX8 rating) resulting in a more natural *Paperlike* effect, slightly less glare and less reflections. I always pick the screens with less layers, I also like when the words kinda pop up from the screen instead of appearing behind a glass (like in a tablet). I like to call the *Basic* model "Paperlike" jokingly.
I actually switched from the 2021 6.8” Paperwhite to the 2024 Basic. I much prefer the 6” screen and never got used to the larger format. The 6” feels much more balanced and comfortable in my hand. I only wish Amazon would offer a vegan leather case option for both the basic and the Paperwhite. I’m not a fan of the scratchy texture of the fabric cases.
This video is AMAZING! so informative! are you considering comparing the 2024 paperwhite and the 2024 paperwhite signature? im really in between which one i should buy and im purchasing at the beginning of november (full panic)
I need a comparison between the new Paperwhite and the Voyage; I’ve been seeing a lot of people say that the contrast is on par with the Voyage and I don’t see too many UA-camrs comparing the two
The Pocketbook Verse Pro and Boox Go 6 look so much more modern than the basic Kindle. But I guess if you are stuck in Amazon ecosystem then it's just a choice between these 2.
Thinking to use my current kindle as long as I can and just replace the battery after it dies. Started reading mostly in evenings at almost highest brightness and battery is not that great. Lasts about a day? Or is it because my kindle is a few years old?
I made a comment on another video as well, but please stop using a white background for these videos, and it should make the screens look more natural, as they usually do in real life. You can also lock the auto white balance and auto exposure at the beginning of the video, and that would help when adjusting the front lights on the kindles, to avoid the camera doing weird things there too.
the only thing stops me from buying the basic is the lack of warm light... Warm light is a must for night reading. I prefer the size and recessed screen of the basic a lot.
Warm light is a must for every e-reader* what is Amazon doing?
@@theunknownguy-br9uxVS the Basic, Kobo Clara have the same screen, warm light and waterproof, for me he’s the best!

Check out the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition! It has warm light :)
Edit: and a 6.8inch display!
@@Jasmina00xall the paper whites have warm light, not just the signature edition. The signature just gets you wireless charging and auto-light sensors
There is something nice about the feeling of the basic Kindle screen, it feels sorta close to an actual book when you're turning the pages.
Thanks for a very useful comparison, showing many of the things that matter that a lot of other reviews don't! Really good!
Will still go with the basic. Book reading will always be comfortable with the 6" for me.

Somehow the basic model feels more natural, like reading a printed book. While the paperwhite looks more like a tablet. 🤔

I disagree… I like the signature series better…
Why do they insist on using the soft plastic for Paperwhite?? It becomes all sticky eventually
Sticking with my Paperwhite 10. I don’t like the size of the bigger new paperwhites or the downgraded basic Kindle.
the flushed screen does look crispy, but the recessed screen is easier on the eyes...
I know right, that 1mm extra distance really helps my eyes

DARN,just bought the 2022 basic and paperwhite 11th few months ago.. Really like the matcha color, cry
I bought it last year too but I want the recessed screen and the color is nice I'll sell it or switch it with k8ndle basic or colorsoft.
lowkey want the basic model just so it can fit in this one backpack pocket lol
Thanks 👍
The cheaper version has better display, unless you prefer a 7 inch reading situation, the basic kindle is a better choice.
i really want the Matcha but just got the Basic 2022 last week in Denim...
Would it be possible to compare side by side basic Kindle, Kobo Clara Bw, Pocketbook Verse (pro)? It is very hard to find any comparison like this.
The Pocketbook Verse Pro and Boox Go 6 look so much more modern than the basic Kindle. But I guess if you are stuck in Amazon ecosystem then it's just a choice between these 2.
Hi, can you do a comparison of the new Kindle vs Kobo?
Having seen all of the reviews for the Kindle, I'm going for the new KOBO. Not to mention the Kindle updates trying to eliminate downloads.
Can this new Kindle paperwhite connect to a PC to upload ebooks?
yes, like any kindle. Calibre is the best piece of software to sideload books.

Can the paperwhite get brighter than the basic kindle? Or is the brightness about the same but just the paperwhite has warm light included?
The brightness on each is exactly the same now. The only difference is the warm light on the paper white

Can you charge the signature edition paperwhite with a USB charging cord or are you stuck with using the charging dock?
I don't have one, but the listing says it comes with the USB cord, so I'm going to say yes. You have to buy the charging dock separately.

Yes
Still has the power button on the bottom edge? That's terrible. It often results in unintended button presses.
This is why I got a popsocket. I kept pressing the power button accidentally. 😂
