I can speak for both England and Italy: libraries are used a lot despite having internet at home. They are not just for students looking for informations and a quiet spot, but adults, pensioners to read the newspaper or looking for old books that are not available any more or can't afford to buy, kids reading and other activities for the little ones. Let's not forget that it's a warm place in winter and cool in summer, you can use the loo and allows you to do meet up with others.

Good video. As someone who works in the library and information services industry (I'm a library technician), I can relate to these stereotypes. As for libraries closing down due to everything going onto the internet, it's not quite true. The main reason a lot of libraries are closing down in Europe and the USA is because of government cutbacks due to the economy, and there have been public backlashes over it. Over here, in Australia, our economy is going strong and our

    That happened to me too.
I started thinking about the future, and if I will be usefull in a "web 2.0 world".
But I think libraries will survive, adding some tecnological devises and trying to mantain a positive thinking.
Good video... and my friends usually think the same as yours. XD
    Good luck!

This is a great video to get people thinking about what it means to have/keep a library in our community. True, there are libraries that are shutting down across the country due lack of funding, but if we listen to the people, and cater a bit to public demand, we can stay around. Our library district still does not charge late fees on books! We do charge a dollar per day late on videos, however. E-books are free through most library websites as well. Why pay for a book you will only read once?:)

My library has an awesome e-book lending library. People still read books. There's just different ways to read books now. E-books, audiobooks on your iphone, the obvious paper books... I have really been toying with the idea of maybe becoming a librarian. I'll have my English degree here soon, and have decided I don't want to be an English teacher anymore. I'm worried though that I won't be able to find a job, and that libraries will become obsolete (the worry expressed in this video).

I'm in the US and trying to go back to school for my MLS, I already have my BA in English Lit. I know it's harder with all the funding pulled here in the US and not well paid. But I've never wanted to be anything else since I was 6. I do want to specialize in Restoration, and have experience building a book repair branch and 3 1/2 years experience as an Archivist's Assistant. Yet I can't find employment.
