I forget what it's called but the red common that you discard a card draw 2 and pay 1 sac it your creatures get haste is really good in roots
Play against meta decks? That's expected, doesn't even get my heart pumping. Playing absolute nonsense piles of 100+ draft cards? I will try so hard you would think I'm at a pro tour.
You mean like the aftermath analyst pile that I'm playing currently lmao it's so good!!! I'm okay with having a 60 card deck of straight gas by turn 5 bc I've taken out all the ability to draw lands since the capena lands fetch all your basic lands leaving you with nothing but win cons and ways to get them
It's all fun and games until you run into the 100+ card deck of nothing but board wipes in explorer.. i said out loud to my computer screen "play a real deck" 😅

This is what I love about Magic. You can make a viable deck centered around throwing foliage at people's faces.
I've always felt haywire mite is an underrated source of removal.
And exile removal at that, which is no small thing.
Between Roots, Reenact, and Worldsoul combo decks, I like roots the most tbh. The thrillseeker tech gives it that extra push it was missing.
Roots has the benefit of completely destroyig reenact with Cauldron too

There's so much midrange combo options with this list AND THAT isn't even the end of it.
TL:DR splashing red or white and/Or turning it into a control list was ALWAYS the way to play roots.
Board wipes roots is nasty. Plant tokens = free sweeper.
Only counter in the meta is farewell, no more lies, and turn 2 bat on the play. That, or mono red lol.
Surprised no one splashing red has thought of thundering Raiju, too...
now this combo gets me into playing roots so fun the power out of nowhere

Finally CGB is doing something with the Agatha's and Thrillseeker combo. I made a janky counters matter gruul deck that I still break out even now to have some fun lol.
I haven't played Arena since Crimson Vow came out, but it's this kind of deck that makes me consider installing it again
I've been really enjoying roots hopefully we get some support for it in outlaws also love learning in the dojo thank you!

Sweet! I have this deck and have been working a long time to make it happen. I avoid the instants and instead run more creatures like Coati Scavenger (now went back to repossession for cheap and life gain) and Skyfisher Spider. I also run cankerbloom.
Use Kami of Whispered Hopes and Grafted Butcher
If you exile Kami with Cauldron, then the Plant Token can produce enough mana to return Grafted Butcher (and make more plants)
If you can get Butcher in the Graveyard, like by getting it Sacrificed by another Butcher, you can grow your Roots infinite
@@Hanmacx true but the need for infinite plants is small and hard to set up in my opinion. Grafted butcher doesn’t help out in any other way. Kami also feels unnecessary as you already have the ability to tap plants for mana.
I can see maybe trying Kami with persistent specimen as at least the Skelton is 1 mana to play and 3 to bring back. But even then, I think the overall win rate would drop. I’d have to try.
Also if you run Kami for infinite, I feel like you might as well go sultai at that point for sleep-cursed fae. And at that point, you might consider dropping the plants and going Temur for realm-scorcher hellkite so you can win in one turn. That’s a whole different deck that exists.

The good thing of Butcher is the Sacrifice cost, so you can Sacrifice one Butcher to another to trigger Roots

I got top 8 in a paper tournament with my own version of conspiracy combo yesterday!
Roots bloody Roots. Roots bloody roots. Tan tan
That last game was the opponent's to lose, they had you dead onboard by playing both virtues so the remaining 6 lands tap for 9 each and Worldsoul you for like 50
It's not that simple, because one of the virtues would have been exiled in response with the other on the stack. Even floating mana doesn't help, so the most opponent could have done is casting one virtue and tapping lands for 24 mana in total imediately after, before passing priority, which results in a x=22 - not enough. Casting the second virtue would simply reset the state on the battlefield, except it would cost 7 additional mana for no gain. We don't know the opponent's hand, so there's no way to tell if other lines were available, but it seems unlikely
This was one of my very first ideas for roots... Took a poetic ingenuity list with 2x Cauldron, 2x Thrillseekr and turned it into an Abzan roots list, and then i was like... Wait a minute.
Also got me thinking when I cut Agatha? Wouldn't she work with disguise? (She does)
This inspired me to try bloodtithe in my own list. Literally night and day better versus only green black
Since yesterday I have been playing against this deck almost every other match. I think I got a lucky win a single time. It is so consistently good and often doesn't even need the full wombo combo. Definitely making this now :3
i was watching this vid and you were worrying how to get the thrillseeker from you hand to the graveyard - bitter triumph would help for sure :)

I had a Roots deck built from HGG. it was fun but this raises the bar. I played a match yesterday and got hit with 3 Depopulates and a Sunfall. The Sunfall gave them an 11 Phyrex but they were afraid of removal so they never played and I won. Lol
Hello! Question: At 7:08, how was Urborg Repossession was able to use its Kicker cost when the two creature tokens have summoning sickness?

Tyvar on the field enables the tokens to tap for mana as if they had haste

I'm messing with the roots currently and i also have this problem of lack of removal in the deck. Annihilating Glare or Bitter Triumph seem to be good options if there is enough space in the deck, but the real deal for me is this little guy called Skyfisher Spider, super solid in my games (and i haven't seen him in other decks online, not sure why - he is working for the roots quite well ;) NOTE: not about removal but i need to share this - pls try Aclazotz (or any other Ojer god from the ixalan set) with the roots deck...their death trigger works with the roots. Ojer Taq sounds completely broken with the roots, but haven't tried it so not sure.
Yeah, i also play the Skyfisher Spider: removal; potentially additional removal, if you can get it back to your hand; roots trigger and lifegain.
The only thing is, that it's quiet expensive: 4mana and a sac :/

Another red card that could be pretty good with all of the plant tokens is Song of Totentanz.

This version seems like all previous versions of the deck I've played and/or seen. If you dont have Roots in play, it does very little to nothing, and it doesn't have enough ways to get Roots back from the yard. I started playing Gloomshrieker as additional Roots retrieval, which gave decent results, but I'm still not convinced the deck is reliable enough.
That land combo player threw so hard. All he had to do was play double virtue but instead started the turn with deluge. You can’t lose with double virtue, you have infinite mana. That guy got mythic with mono red, no doubt.
How did Sparky make mythic?
CGB... this sounds crazy but could we slam this deck together with that Temur World Soul Rage deck. Here is my thoughts:
Drop the blue make it Jund
replace blue cards with things like Butler and Tyvar
Keep the Cauldron, exiling an Aftermath Analyst makes all your roots Analysts or Thrillseeker
Win with big roots or big rage since they add to mana as well as the lands returned

I will enjoy less cookie-cutter nonsense and CGB lists that i already thought of 3 months ago on ladder. I dont mind playing vs mirrors but its always tough knowing your opponent didnt design their deck and you did... Knowing exactly what your opponent is playing makes things less interesting.
